Sullivan: Cowboy Protector

Rate this book

Christian Historical Western Romance
Book Four of the Very Popular Kavanagh Brothers Series
Sheila Kelly is on the run. The most frightening word she knows is witchcraft. She is a healer like her mother and all the Kelly women before her. When a distraught father brings his deceased daughter to Sheila's house, he claims that Sheila killed her.
Sullivan Kavanagh was a captain in the Army, and he is used to giving orders. He's convinced when people don't do things his way, they end up dead. He's liked Sheila for a while but just as a friend. When her life goes awry, he decides he needs to her hide and to plan a future for her.
Sheila is an independent woman and she doesn't need a man to tell her where and how to live. She's raising her young daughter just fine alone. She never realized how controlling Sullivan is until they hide from the mob chasing her.
Is it possible for two people who are strong willed and independent to manage a relationship, or will they always believe their way is the right way? Can they learn to make decisions from their hearts instead of from their past experiences?

I will fear no evil

A very strong and gripping story. Sheila has been accused of being a witch and of killing a child. Sullivan is her friend and does what he can to protect her and her daughter. Even the strongest ring they cannot control life and this is a story of pain and rebirth.

Sullivan Kavanagh has been a loner since leaving the Army after the Civil War. Returning to his home, he didn't date or spend time with anyone.
He met Sheila Kelly in the woods and they struck up a friendship.
Sheila's life had been rough from the beginning and she needed a friend.. Sullivan was that friend.. She didn't want to be married. She wanted to live her life with her daughter and not have her life in constant turmoil.
Wrongly accused of a horrible crime, and also being taunted as a witch, caused her to run. Sullivan found her, hid her and Becca and decided they must marry, He takes care of it without consulting Sheila. She is furious, but knows they must to protect Becca. A quick marriage to Sullivan will hopefully keep
Becca safe when she is sent to prison or hanged. She doesn't know what her fate will be.
Sheila was tried and convicted and sent to a Women's Prison, even the lawyer Sullivan hired couldn't save her from that fate.
Living life without Sheila was difficult for Sullivan and Becca. Finding out she had died in prison devastated him. Things started happening to make him think he was losing his mind..
Deception had put Sheila in that jail, and now he needed to find out the truth once and for all. Will he figure it out in time?
This book is a must read... The characters are so amazing and well written. You are grabbed from the beginning and you won't put the book down until you finish. Two strong willed people who desperately need each other must find a way to work together and realize what life can be when they work together and not against each others wills.
I received an ARC of this book and am choosing to leave an honest review.

It is really terrible when you have not done anything wrong, yet you are blamed for it. That was the case for Sheila Kelly, who was a healer. A man had brought his daughter to her that had already passed, but he blamed her for it and called her a witch. Passing the blame to the nearest person is what happens a lot of times, just to focus the grief. Sheila has to run and is lucky when her friend Sullivan Kavanagh takes her to his family. But there is a mob mentality of the men determined to find her and probably kill her. Luckily she gets her daughter and then Sullivan wants to hide them.
Sheila is a strong minded woman and it doesn't go well with him ordering her around. But does she have a choice? What will happen?
Truly could not stop once I read the first page and with Kathleen Ball's smooth writing, she took me right through to the end!!! This is the first in the series I have read but I have to go back and read the others. I adored this Kavanagh brother and sure I will the rest! Wonderful..

Sullivan: Cowboy Protector: Christian Historical!

I enjoyed this 4th book in the Kavanach Brothers Series. Sullivan and Sheila were very likeable characters, ones I found myself caring about. Especially Sheila. She had such a hard life, but she was a kind and gentle soul, giving of her talent as a healer to those sick and hurt. It was hard to read of a few of the things she had to experience before she could ever hope for a HEA. I loved Sullivan. Kind and gentle but overprotective, as his brothers before him. It didn't take him long to realize, maybe falling in love and having a family wasn't such a bad idea after all. I loved Sullivan's tenderness and protection of little Becca. I could understand why Sheila never had plans to marry, giving up her freedom by doing so. Kathleen Ball is a wonderful author. She took me through the sadness, the twists and turns and finally towards the end, with hope for a bright new life for this favorite hero and heroine. I enjoyed the whole experience. JudyE

This was another wonderful story of the Kavanagh brothers. This time it is Sullivan and the town's healer, Sheila. There is much that is going on in this book. It plays out like a movie for the most part. There are some scenes that did not flow as nicely but overall it is a good solid story.

I did enjoy the dual POV format. It really gave a great insight into Sheila's thoughts and the pain and suffering that she went through. I was a little shocked at the twist in the story and expected it to play out a little different than it did. At the end, it seemed a little more rushed than the rest of the story and not as thought out as well.

The road to a HEA for Sullivan and Sheila was long and extremely painful one. It was filled with tragedy, deceit and sorrow.

This is a sweet, clean historical romance with a Christian base to it. There is nothing that should offend anyone. I do look forward to the rest of the Kavanagh brothers HEAs.

Hatred, pain and years loss can she find happiness?
Now this one starts off interesting Sheila is being chased by men with rifles and we have not gotten off the first page yet wow! The action just keeps coming! I really like Sullivan he is a great character. This was a wonderful book showing just how bad an unexpected event can cause people to turn into a mob set on hurting and destroying. Now all of this is just in the first 20% of the book there is so much more that Sheila must face. If you are looking for a book that is so full of drama and action this is the one to pick up it was heart retching and heartwarming all in one book. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.

A really good cowboy romance. 💞❤️🤠💞

Shelia is on the run after being accused of being a witch. But she can't bring someone back from death no matter how good of a healer she is. When Sullivan stumbles upon her hiding spot and protects her from a lynch mob, he takes her home to help her and protect her. But this brings about a chain of events that will nearly break both him and Shelia. This story will make you angry and sad before they get their happily ever after but it is so worth it! 😉💗💕

This is the fourth book in the Kavanagh Brothers series and needs to read in the order it was written as each book builds on from the next. 🥰

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Sheila, a young woman with a daughter, served the local community as a healer. She was maliciously blamed for the death of a young child who had been badly burned and had to go on the run. Despite being sheltered by her friends Sullivan she is finally arrested and put on trial.
With reasons for her being framed gradually becoming clear there are twists and turns as the story developed.
I found the story heartbreaking and really felt for the characters, especially when all hope seemed to be lost, and ended up reading the whole story in one sitting. Definitely recommended.

Shelia was raped and had her daughter Becca out of wedlock. At the beginning of this story the townspeople try to string her up because she can’t bring a child that was badly burned back to life. She’s found guilty even though there was plenty of testimony that the child was already dead when she saw her. I don’t know why they never tried to have that conviction overturned. Then she is sent to hard labor women’s prison with beatings and starvation. This was a really depressing romance and I struggled to finish it. I didn’t like it as much as they other books in the series.

Sullivan is a christian read with several chapters that are heart-wrenching. Faith in God kept Sheila sane as she traversed her hardships in life from the time she was attacked to the time she spent imprisoned for a crime she did not commit. Her struggles over many years were harsh. Sullivan Kavanagh wanted to be part of her life but she was an independent woman and struggled on her own. People suffered, family was distraught, and, loneliness was everywhere as life moved on where forgiveness was needed. I look forward to the next Kavanagh Brothers book.

Love Historical Romance

I am truly enjoying this series. Only negative the story concluded at the 60% Mark. Then there were excerpts of other books by the author. I would give this 3.5 stars because of that. Sheila is being accused of being a witch. A little girl died and they are saying Shelia did it, all she can do is run and try to protect her daughter. That's where Sullivan steps in trying to protect Shelia and her daughter. This book has bribery, false accusations, rape, greed, but ended with love and a HEA.

This is heartbreaking, intense and sweet. Sheila and Sullivan were friends when she ran to his house after being accused of killing a child. He got her daughter and hid them away until he thought she was safe. Only she wasn't safe, the sheriff bided his time until he could arrest her. What she goes through after that is shocking and sad. Sullivan protects Sheila's daughter from the danger that lurks around her, while shocking turns and twists keep you guessing about what will happen next. It's a very intense and traumatic story that hooked me from the start.

Sullivan: Cowboy Protector

Sullivan was our riding his ranch. He heard some riders coming. He stopped, they wanted to know about a lady called Shelia. Ed Wren told Sullivan , “she killed my daughter”. Sullivan had seen Sheila lying underneath some scrub brush. He called to her and she told him, if she had a limb she could walk. She asked Sullivan to go and get her daughter Becca. This is a very heart wrenching story of this lady being wronged. It’s a good story, and evil does not always win
. You will enjoy this beautiful story.

Another of the Kavanagh brothers falls in love. Sullivan, who returned from the Civil War blaming himself and God for the loss of some of the men under his command, is a protector who can be overly protective. He loves Sheila, who is stalked by evil but wants to make independent decisions for herself and her daughter. It may take a miracle to save them. Fortunately, miracles are one of the things God loves doing!

This author has penned a story that has all of the elements of a true western story. This is Sullivan and Sheila's story, as well as Sheila's daughter young daughter and the entire Kavanagh Family. It is a fast moving story with lots of action including false accusations, bribery, lies, imprisionment, evil people, good friends, strong family loyalty, and romance. I really enjoyed this story and highly recommend it. It is a real page turner and I know you will enjoy it.

A great story

This story didn’t go the way most Christian historical romances go. It had a lot of ups and downs and surprises that all served to make this a book worth reading. It also reminds us that God is there in both the good and bad times of our lives. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series.

This series is a good series and I am enjoying it. The story is good.
The reason for my rating is due to the glitches in the book! They were crazy! Pages missing book kept skipping to the final pages, pages missing or page numbers doubled. Very frustrating to have stop and try all kinds of thing to get back to where I was or to the next page!

This book grabs you from the start. They are both strong willed but she has to be to survive all they put her through. Lies, greed and cover up along with a mystery too. I love how she found strength in God to get through it all. Good book.

Half of a book

The story was good but short. There wasn't any character build up and it ended abuptly. Wanted more of a background with the characters. The rest of the book shows chapters of a few of her other books.

loved this book. It was so heartbreaking reading about all that Sheila had to endure in her life. I loved how strong Sullivan was and his love and care for both Sheila and Becca. Thank you Kathleen Ball for another Kavanagh brother story (great series). I can't wait for Donnell's story.

Trust God

It seems easy to say trust in God but it’s totally different when everything goes wrong. This is a very gripping book that tells a very tragic story of how trusting in a God when all fails. Great read. Big D

When evil weaves it's web it can be unbearable o those caught in it. The characters in this story bear it all with God's aid. This was hard to read because I loved the characters so much and it was written with balance between evil and good moments. this is a must read in the series.

Gripping story

This story is one filled with lessons on how duplicitous people can be and how lies ate told to shift blame. Underlining this is the story of brave woman and her courage.
