Second chances didn’t come for everyone, but for Sgt. Harold Tyler, code name; Eastwood, the second chance was mandated. Losing a leg in the line of duty didn’t mean retirement for this Green Beret. Instead of being sent home, Eastwood finds himself transported to a top-secret rehabilitation facility deep inside the infamous Area 51. Confined to an unknown camp beneath the Nevada desert, he comes face to face with Joely Winter, a sexy one-night stand he met in London.

Joely Winter was a child prodigy and the inventor of advanced bio-engineered prosthetics. Now grown and the owner of a successful company, she’s contracted by the Department of Defense and put in charge of their new program, PATCH-COM. Here, the military ensures a return on their investment in highly-trained special operations soldiers by patching them up and moving them back out into the field. Unknown even to SEALs, Delta Forces, Green Berets and more, PATCH-COM soldiers operate far beneath the radar and beyond the knowledge of top brass at Fort Bragg.

During his time at Camp Lazarus, Joely is determined to keep their relationship professional, barely. But when Eastwood receives orders to bug out, he suffers a crisis of confidence. Returning to the field on his new leg with a new team is too much to handle. Seeing her big, brave, handsome ex-lover doubt himself breaks her heart, so Joely breaks her rule to rally her man. It’s her patriotic duty, after all! But intimacy only draws them closer and when he leaves, he takes her heart with him.

With orders in hand and a team of broken soldiers at his side, Eastwood heads out to recover a Ukrainian operative in possession of the very technology now propping him up. It’s a race against time to find the traitor within their midst responsible for betraying PATCH-COM before the operative can sell the stolen tech to their enemies. When the identity of the traitor is revealed, he knows Joely’s life is in danger. Can Eastwood save his woman in time?

Michele E. Gwynn is a former online content writer and journalist. Having written for magazines and newspapers, she finally decided to go for her dream and wrote her first fiction novel Harvest in 2011. Since then, she has published in a variety of genres from science fiction to crime thrillers to paranormal and contemporary romance, even three children's books. She has won a variety of awards and achieved bestseller listings including Amazon UK and Amazon US (for Darkest Communion and Sophie's Wish). Michele’s series include the Harvest Trilogy, Angelic Hosts (now exclusive to Gwynn's Substack), the Checkpoint, Berlin Detective Series, Green Beret series, and the Soldiers of PATCH-COM. She has also penned several standalone novels such as Darkest Communion, Queen’s Island (now available as a FREE bonus book on her website), Waiting a Lifetime, and Hiring John.

Michele has always been a very creative person with an appreciation of twisty plots, one heck of an imagination, and a desire to talk about important social issues such as the recurrent theme in her award-winning “Checkpoint, Berlin” detective series which focuses on human trafficking. Given her passion for social issues and justice, she strives to create good but flawed characters that often fall short of their own ideals. Her wish is to engage, inspire, and entertain her readers with intelligent plots sprinkled with humor, real-world facts, a hint of steam, and a touch of romance.

Second Hand Soldier (The Soldiers of PATCH-COM BOOK 1)

A very unique twist about alpha soldiers, sailers and a few other branches. A soldier reinstated after a devastating and he thought career ending injury meets up again with the women he met in England after rescuing her best friend...twice with a life changing “new leg”. They were hit and heavy then and aren’t suppose to fraternize while he is stationed there. Hot hot hot, great story and I want the next one!

After losing a leg on a mission in Kuwait, Harold "Eastwood" Tyler ends up in a top secret program for wounded warriors, but secrets are hard to keep, and when a schematic of one of the program's highly proprietary replacement limbs turns up in a hotel room by the CIA, Eastwood and his team find themselves back in the field and the whole team, including the project's civilian inventor in jeopardy.
This is the first book of a spin-off series and some of the characters, most notably Eastwood and Joely , have backstories elsewhere although this story provides enough historical detail that reading the earlier Rescuing Emma isn't necessary to enjoying this book.
I loved Secondhand Soldier and, if you enjoy military suspense stories with hunky soldiers, espionage, gun play and even a little romance you'll enjoy this well crafted tribute wounded warriors who, although no longer whole, still have their whole lives to live and so much to give.

Eastwood & Joley

Once again, I discovered a new author & series that is part of the Operation Alpha World. I had been introduced to Eastwood in prior Delta Force as part of Outlaw's team. The story & characters were very well written and very enjoyable.

I thoroughly enjoyed Ms.Gwynns story of Eastwood and Joely. We meet Eastwood in Loving Leisl where he is hurt. Eastwood gets his second chance in his career as well as with Joely. Action packed, well written.....Loved the book! I look forward to more stories of members of Patch Com!

Secondhand Solider by Michele E Gwynn is the first book in her Soldiers of PATCH-COM series.
I've read the author in the Special Forces: Operation Alpha novellas in Susan Stoker's world and was intrigued to see how this book would compare. I did have one minor complaint the story ends at 79% with two other sneak peeks into the Green Beret and the second book in PATCH-Com other than that this is a solid 4 star story.

Eastwood loses his leg during a IED blast while at the hospital in Kuwait he'll wake up during his flight he's shocked to find out that Area 51 does exist and he's been chosen for a super secret program to give wounded warriors a new role in the military. But there's a traitor in their midst and the Kremlin wants their technology. But when Dr. Joely Winters goes missing will Eastwood and his men find her in time?

Secondhand Soldier

Gone but not forgotten, a very injured soldier is taken to Area 51 to join other elite men and women. Though unable to keep in the regular mainstream of their regular jobs, they are not being retired and medically discharged. The action that follows makes for a great story, however a little light on time and detail.

A fantastic book that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Plenty of mystery, danger, witty comments, betrayals, surprises, and let's not forget the heat. Harry was badly injured on an op, and taken to a secure place along with some others and Joely was there, she designed the prosthetics. That's where the troubles start. Excellent read. HEA.

Second-hand Soldier.

Michele Gwynn did an amazing job of capturing my attention from the first page. The storyline is full of suspense, intrigue, heat, and betrayal. Follow Eastwood and the rest of broken soldiers as they are given renewed lives to continue to serve their country with the help of Dr. Joely Winters.

Rushed ending

The build up to the story was excellent, but the end seemed rushed. Also the addition of an extract from the second book made the book appear longer.

Eastwood and Joley

This is my first book by Ms. Gwynn. I thought the storyline sounded interesting and different. The story was short and sweet. There was not too much character development or outside details. It was a HEA and a cute quick read. I will be watching for another in the series.
