We're burning from within....I’m in trouble. My mate, Iain, thinks I betrayed him. That's because I did--using a love potion to control him so that he'd save my people. But now, it's stopped working, and there's nothing left but his anger. He's not the only one pissed off at me. My Court knows that I’ve lost the sacred Soul Stone of our people, putting everyone in danger. When the Royal Guard comes for me with a pair of fire manacles, I’m not surprised. But when my estranged mate, king of the Sea Fae, strolls into the Court of Fire to help me…. Well, that bit is unexpected.I’m in no position to turn down help, even if my mate is hardly speaking to me. If we don’t recover the Soul Stone soon, all of my people will burn from within. I just don't want to completely fall for Iain. But as we go deep into enemy territory, the desire between us becomes impossible to resist. And if I can’t fight it, he’ll never let me go.

Before becoming a writer, Linsey was an archaeologist who studied shipwrecks in all kinds of water, from the tropics to muddy rivers (and she has a distinct preference for one over the other). After a decade of tromping around in search of old bits of stuff, she settled down to start penning her own adventure novels and is freaking delighted that people seem to like them. Since life is better with a little (or a lot of) magic, she writes urban fantasy and paranormal romance.
Ok I am very happy to rate this as a five and you are probably wondering why I'm starting my review with this statement. Well the short answer is I was thoroughly entertained and the long answer is there's quite often a formula to these stories so for example a lot start with the protagonist fighting off a Demon. That's not a huge problem admittedly but the authors characters are always sent off chasing someone or something which brings a predictable pace so as much as I do enjoy her work I'd be letting anyone who trusts my reviews down if I didn't rate accordingly . I am still in awe at Claire because she's not at all how I imagined her from previous books that mention her and I'm overjoyed to be surprised. Her relationship with Iain is passionate and yet still very much in the air so I'm truly enjoying this journey that their romance is taking. Plus this time we get well what I can only describe as Fae Mermaids ! Add in a Kraken with an almost Dragon like personality and for this reader this was a perfect, exciting and wild adventure. Plus the cover art is beautiful so yes I'm a very happy reader. This voluntary take is of an advanced copy and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair
This is a review for the first two books in the series. I found it to initially be intriguing but as time wore on, and the pages turned, nothing went deeper than the surface. Plot points were too neatly buttoned up, easy solutions (too easy) abound. When there’s a malevolent evil that requires you to give up the entirety of your being to appease it...I mean, damn. You’d think there’d be more of a climax attached to that sitch. But no...both books ended with a whomp-whomp solution while the Mc flounders onward in utter stupidity.
I mean, really. She’s got a hot fated mate who’s a Fae king? Who is kind to her and selfless and wants to protect her—yearns to love her...and she wants to run away from that for no inexplicable reason beyond “yo, fate can suck it.” It comes off as incredibly petulant and immature. I’m not saying she should fall on his d*ck, but let the relationship play out a little. And, more importantly, maybe the author could have written a more compelling reason into the plot as to why Claire can’t get with Ieian. Because right now? It feels like their relationship is being cockblocked to string readers along.
Anyways, everything felt rushed. Heck, I don’t feel like I even really know the *real* Claire. Her brother and Puka poof in and out at far too convenient times, like that stupid ether bag full of potions. I’d rather have this book start with Claire wallowing for a bit about her utter and complete lack of self. Damn, let the girl be depressed and let us SEE THAT and see her relationships with her dragon friends (I want those ladies to be more involved)...hell, I’ll take ANY character development at this point.
So, all in all just an okay read. Nothing that got me too excited and more than a few annoyances. Every character felt like window dressing and plot points plodded along aimlessly like a frog jumping across lily pads.
A little disappointed in this one. It is basically a repeat of the first book but instead the fire fae are the ones who need to be saved from a curse. It was still entertaining, but I was hoping for the plot and the characters to get more development and some new dimensions added to the story. I’m still going to read the next one, but I do hope there are some new elements that spice up the story a bit.
I have been a big fan of this author for a while, and I have been really looking forward to Claire’s story. This is the second book in the series, and I like this one better than the first one. Claire still needs to save her people, and she goes on a quest with Iain to recover the Soul Stone, and they visit an underwater court and see a Kraken (yay, a Kraken!). I love these fun-filled adventures, and the writing is always great. But I’m still missing something in this series. I’m not sure what it is, but that aside, this book was still a great way to while away an afternoon. Recommend! I received a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.
Can you imagine giving it all up to save someone else’s people? That is exactly what Claire did in book 1 and she continues to be humbled throughout this book as well. Fighting off the mate bond while trying to get your magic back isn’t easy work. Especially when he is so amazing. Getting a further glimpse into what makes her tick has been a great read. I just love all of your series!
Clair and Iain are it again but time will they win? This one was just as good as the first and I can't wait for the next one. Hopefully Connor will have more to do with the story.
Another fantastic installment in this series! I love Caera and Ian! These two have another action packed journey in this book to save the fire Fae after the debacle to save the sea Fae at the end of the last book. I definitely enjoyed every page and am really looking forward to book 3!
more stupidity in this book than the previous one.
Recap: Claire was desperate to got her magic back so she channeled her desperation to killing demons. All the seers she contacted couldn't provide her with any answer and she felt beaten up when she returned back to P&P. She also had been avoiding Iain, who would drag her back to his side because of their mating bond. To make her day worse, the fire fae came to take her to the king and queen, because she stole and lost the soulstone. They told her to find it again because the fire fae's realm's boundaries were starting to weaken and started to appear in the human's realm. Even worse, the fire faes themselves started to lose their fire control that the fire started to consume them from the inside out. She would go to her mission accompanied by Iain, who felt grateful she rescued his people, and of course because he couldn't stay away from her. On their way out, the Oracle (Rowan Seer's sister) came to her, saying that she and the soulstone was actually one.
They asked for a very strong tracker from Connor and the blood sorceress and then go back to the sea fae's realm. He said that the stone would be at the merpeople/primodial's territory, the sea fae's ancestor, but they didn't have a nice relationship. So they went to their territory at the bottom of the ocean, met the queen, who of course wouldn't give up the stone, but she was stupid enough to tell them that the stone was in her pet kraken's possession, so at night, they snuck out, stole the queen's submarine (wow, this author really just take the easy, ugly way out), fought the kraken, found the soulstone, and escaped the Primodial's realm, back to the sea fae's castle.
However, the soulstone was broken and didn't have its full power. Connor came just right on time, bringing a potion that could allow them to talk with the Oracle. The Oracle said that to fix the soulstone, she needed to go to Restormel Castle that is guarded by Daughters of Danu and wash it on holy font to remove the gray curse marks from it. And to repair the crack, she had to go to the Grove of Life and it would hopefully repair her broken magic too. And to return it to the Tor of the Ancients, she had to use the backdoor (because the front door was destroyed) and the oracle gave her a transport charm for it. Before she disappeared, she said that her court and Iain's would always be at war and they would fail to unite it.
So they immediately went for the Daughter of Danu, who of course helped them, then showed them to the Grove of Life, where Claire fixed the stone. However, it didn't fully return its full power, but that was the best she could get, so she and Iain teleported immediately back to the tor. She finally realized that what the Oracle said, 'she and the soulstone are one' actually mean that she and the soulstone are one (she was an idiot, i know) so the power gave her power back and her wing, of course, and it broke. Claire, using her instinct (a sorry excuse for the author's reluctant to write an explanation), found out what to do, and just fixed the destroyed moor, which by some extent (someway, somehow, who knows), immediately healed the fire faes too.
However, the evil darkness that she felt in the sea fae's court was also there, and it possessed her, controlling her mind and body. It almost succeed in controlling her to cause the great burning again, but she reigned it in. Panicked, she ran away from Iain, telling him to stay away from her, refusing his help (idiot...). After that, the royalties summoned her to congratulate her, but when she saw them, she immediately knew that they were also possessed by the same evil darkness as the one inside her.

Are these books for teens??! I read the second book hoping it was better than the first and in some ways it was, more adventure and in other ways it was the same book when it came to the romance aspect and the characters...let me rephrase that as there is no romance in these books. I do not think it’s romantic when a man keeps chasing a women, helping her in every way only to have her want to rid herself of him and run away every chance she gets...that’s unrequited love. There is just lust here. “His eyes dark with desire” “his lips plundered mine like he needed it to survive”, “I pressed my lips to his unable to resist, I wanted him”, “he pulled me closer to him, “more” I said between kisses, within six strides we were at the bed”, “he raised up above me and removed his shirt to reveal strong defined muscles”. Btw if you are adding this all to a book, complete the task!!, it’s like having blue balls for a whole book...what’s the female version of that? hmm...I figured this was made for teens especially after the “if we didn’t have sex, I couldn’t fall in love with him” comment, what adult would actually thinks this...and believes it?!?! Also, the always saying more, then nothing, or they finally get a night, she says “I need something, but no sex”, shirts come off, he says “I’ll make you feel good, but then nothing happens.
Back to the adventure, I enjoyed the storyline better than in the first book, but felt it was a lot of the same as the first book, just different surroundings. As well, for a demon killer, these books do not portray a bad ass lead, determined, yes, but that’s about as deep as it goes, in both books the female lead weakens or gets hurt, or something else that requires the male lead to save her, help her, protect her and then stare at her with a heated stare and her to want to break the bond between them. Again, same sentences/thoughts repeated numerous times throughout the book.
These books are like starting a movie only to realize it sucks or not your cup of tea, but you are too far invested to just turn it off so you watch till the end only to curse at yourself for watching it and wasting time....on to number 3 :(
Another awesome tale. Continuing from Crown of Fire, this one takes us along on Clair's travels to find the Soul Stone, repair it and then save her people - the Fire Fae. At the end of the last book Clair had lost all of her magic - sacrificing it to save the Sea Fae and losing the Soul Stone in the process. She fled from Iain and went back to Magic Bend.
Between Iain hunting for her and the King and Queen of the Fire Fae court hunting her down for stealing the Soul Stone, she doesn't stand a chance. Guards break into Pastiles and Potions and arrest her, taking her back to the Court of the Fire Fae in manacles. When she gets there she discovers her people are dying and the land is dying and she must find the Soul Stone at the bottom of the sea to heal them. Then Iain shows up to go with her whether she wants him to or not.
This was a lot of fun to read and I can hardly wait for the final book in this series. It comes out next week!
So when I see a book I am interested in the first thing I look at is page count. When I saw 244 pages, I grimaced. I usually don't read much under 300 pages, because it seems like it's lacking something. This book was non action but I was desperately wanting Claire and Iain's relationship to build and take off. They gained a camaraderie, but not quite romance because Claire won't let herself feel anything for him. It's frustrating. Also, I have a terrible fear of water/especially the ocean/ drowning. It was rough to read through the underwater scenes and I could definitely relate to Claire's fear. All in all, it was great but just too short. Please let there be a development between Claire and Iain in the next book!
I love Magics Bend and I love the residents there. Reading each of their crazy stories has become a passion of mine and has always been somewhere to escape to when life has been difficult. Recently the World has become out of control, something you would think belongs in a fiction book but its not its real life, so at times like this I turn to my favourite authors and dip myself into their amazing worlds of fantasy to escape the true horrors of real life.
Lindsey Hall is an amazing writer and this second book in Claire's journey is another brilliant accomplishment which I completely recommend, I look forward to reading book 3, thank you Lindsey xx
This had so much potential. The story could be so good. Except for how it was executed. I don’t know how to describe a clunkily written book. It reads like a draft. Things don’t connect often. Sometimes Hall tells the reader something so utterly pointless in the story that you are left wondering what the hell happened to that part? It changes and turns into something else so fast. It seems like a rough draft and there are errors and grammar issues. I had hoped it was just a first novel problem but it got worse in this second book. The characters are also unpredictable and they don’t seem to follow any specific character traits specific to them. If you like a hastily worded and written draft, read it. If not, don’t waste your three hours to read this book.
I had a major case of deja vu with this book. Too many similar themes, too many repeated phrases. It almost seemed as when the writer hit a wall, the characters would say they'd deal with it later. Literally.
Having come off of Aeri and Mari's books, which are phenomenal examples of this writer, it feels though she should have taken time to regroup. Claire was the girl next door, everyone's bridesmaid. I think she just deserves more than what she's getting in this book.
I'm not sure Linsey had her heart in this one. I'm a huge Linsey Hall fan, that's why the 4 stars. I'm hoping the next one rebounds.
I totally love the chemistry between Claire and Iain. They come together to find the soul stone and Claire's lost magic. The trials they go through are incredible and only the strong survive. Will the dark evil that Claire saw when she saved Iain's people consume her or is she strong enough to fight it. Everything about this book is full of the love Claire has for her people and those she loves. I absolutely love this book and series.
Most of the plot twists, climaxes, character developments, and magical implements just reminded me of Hall’s other works. I didn’t feel like this was a new story, just a slightly altered version of the other stories in this universe. I did enjoy the twist toward the end with the darkness, but the rest just seemed like the other stories on repeat. This second installment didn’t hold anything different and therefore doesn’t get more stars from me. I’m still interested in how it all ends though! I’m a sucker for any romance, especially an enemies-to-lovers saga.
Wellll... Here’s the deal: I like the author; her background in history and archaeology and how she brings that into her writing. However, there just seems to be a significant amount of depth and character/story/relationship development lacking here...at least in the first two books of this trilogy. I want to like these books because I love fantasy and romance and Fae and supernatural stories. These stories have only taken me two hours each to read and are free on my kindle with kindle unlimited. I think I’ll read the third book and hope in the future that LH’s stories become more mature (depth-wise, relationship-wise) in the future. I want her books to succeed!
Wow the adventure never ceases the challenges always there
More challenges this time. Caera faces life without magic and without direction. The Sea King has his magic and his power but also is looking for where to go and how to defeat the challenges. Together they seek to overcome and when through the many challenges that face them. They've got to find the soul Stone and when they find it they've got to get it away from a kraken. They've got to steal a submarine to do it of course and have to fit the submarine through a tiny space to even get it to the kraken and his lair. Can they get the soul Stone from the kraken and escape the sea mermaid merman Queen and guards? Well the challenges don't stop there there's more to come hold on to your seats.
Well now that was full of magical twists and turns, I loved it.
Claire and Iain are not closer to being fated mates than they were in the first book even though they are already technically mated between Clairs love potion and Iain’s lies it’s hard for either of them to forgive or trust and without forgiveness there can never be trust and without trust there is no hope for love but I am a romantic and an optimist so I’m still hoping for a happily ever after st the end I’m just guessing there is a whole load more challenges for these two to face first.
As always Linsey takes us into the world she created and gave us a look at a new part. She continues to develop the world, I just discovered the next book I s out... so soon to be added to my list!
I truly look forward to when she writes about one of the few male residents of note that deserves a solid background. Linsey is a gifted and talented author do I have no doubts to her ability to work with a predominantly male protagonist for this series of books!
Once more Linsey Hall writes another MUST READ NOVEL!
The quest: to find the Souls tone and return it to the fire face. Sounds pretty straightforward, but is anything but. I like the action and challenges in this book. It really keeps the story moving. Claire and Iain have a few too many "moments" for my liking, but that is probably just my own taste. The book is good, well written with lots of great imagination. I love that the book is based on real places and is full of historical elements. Definitely worth reading.
The story is quite good. The struggles seem quite reasonable. The end, as predicted, was sinister. While the cover is attractive, it does not depict Claire appropriately. The clothes are not of the style worn by her and no such outfit occurs in the story.
Claire was amazing as always. However, this was our first time to really see her truly vulnerable. In front of Iain of people too. While denying her feelings all the while, she really opened up to him multiple times. I loved that the most. Out of all Linsey's characters, this is the 1st time that has really stood out. He was there for her in a way that gave her strength but didn't diminish her own.
Linsey Hall's Dragon based and fae based series all highlight an individual's growth. I enjoyed meeting the new character Syrea and would enjoy a book series on her later lol. One thing that is so hard to see is when characters have a super obvious big problem and won't or can't be honest about it. I really hope Ceara gets her romantic happy ending. I hope we get a Connor book too, even if all the previous main characters were female.
On the positive side IT WAS AWESOME!!!! Twists, turns, FEAR, intrigue, subterfuge, SMOLDERING love story GETTING STEAMY, and then THE END!!! OMG!! I NEED book 3!! NOW which leads me to the NEGATIVE portion of this review, I NEED book 3!! ahahahaha I am LOVING these characters!!! can't wait to see Claire and Iain FINALLY say I LOVE YOU to each other!! and live happily ever after. Then I'm going to miss them!!! How bout a pic. of the MALE character on a cover??
Her books are always amazing! Easy and fascinating to read!!!
Gosh i love her books so much! They always get straight to the point and she develops the character throughout the story instead of just letting the reader know everything about the characters in a awkward and forced fashion. All of the action scenes are so easy to imagine which really brings the story to life! I would definitely recommend!!!
After saving the sea fae, the soul stone of the fire fae is lost. Claire's magic is gone, her mate is angry at her. What else could go wrong? Well, the the fire fae are burning from the inside without the soul stone to help them direct/control their fire. Iain & Claire have to venture to the primordial sea fae to locate the soul stone and go on another quest to fight the darkness. I like this series better than the dark fae series. Quick read
I highly recommend all of Hall's books. She uses historical places in imaginative and adventurous plots. The characters are always scintillating, and their stories are always fascinating. Her notes after the stories are informative and almost as entertaining as her books. Enjoy!
