From New York Times bestselling author R.L. Mathewson comes the next installment in the Neighbor from Hell series…
For readers who enjoy touching stories that make them smile, laugh, and fall in love.
Sometimes life doesn’t go the way that we expected. That’s what happened to Devin Bradford when he received the news that turned his life upside down seven years ago. Determined to be there for his children, Devin has put his life on hold, putting his children first even if that meant telling himself that he couldn’t have the only woman that he’d ever wanted.
After years of putting off taking the next step, Charlie was finally ready, mostly because her best friend had threatened to make her life a living hell if she didn’t. Knowing that she wouldn’t be able to pull this off unless she made some changes, Charlie somehow finds herself moving into the in-law apartment of the man that seemed to go out of his way to avoid her only to find herself wondering if she was chasing the wrong dream after all.

In 2019/2020, R.L. Mathewson will be publishing Devastated, the first Anger Management novel, Tall, Dark & Furious, the 6th installment to the Pyte/Sentinel series, Irresistible, the long anticipated novel for the Neighbor from Hell Series as well as many more books throughout the year, paranormals, contemporaries, and YAs.
Clearly I have too much time in my hands.. or I’m just bored. The kids were cute, can’t deny this but the way they talked made me feel like they were older than 6 years old. If you’ve read this author then you know you’re in for repetitiveness throughout the book. Yes, I made a list of how many times she repeated words throughout the book. That’s how much bored I am.
Safety: She hasn’t dated or had sex with anyone since college, He doesn’t date. But there’s no mention of when was the last time he slept with someone in the five years that he has known the heroine because we all know just because heroes say they don’t date doesn’t mean they stop having sex in the other hand we all know how that goes when the heroine says she doesn’t date. 🙄
I love this author but her writing has become predictable and boring. It really has. The amount of broken sentences is unbelievable. This was cute once, but now it's just annoying and-
My first big problem with this book was at the beginning. It really was. Charlie walks into Devin's home, uninvited, snoops around his kitchen so she can bake and wash his children. Does he see any danger signs there? He really doesnt.
Charlie lives there less than a week and she bathes his children. She allows a little boy in her bed only wearing his underwear? (When I say Michael you say Jackson). What parent thinks this is ok? Why does she think it's ok? It's really not. Devin have you never warned your kids about the weirdos in the world? Do you know what a red flag looks like? You really don't.
The villain brought much needed comic relief though. That subplot was tremendously ridiculous. The book could have done with more original humour like that instead of the played out glaring over food, nodding solemnly, and family dinners that aren't near as funny as they try to be. They're really not.
Unfortunately, NFH series has become about as funny as a heart attack. It really has.
The writing seemed a bit erratic. I had to read sentences multiple times and realized the time had lapsed to later in the day or something similar. I got the gist of the book, but was often confused with what was happening in the story. I think the author is trying to be subtle, but there is a fine line between being to 'in your face' with the obvious and to subtle that you don't have a clue to what is going on.
I usually live her books, but her more recent books haven't been my favorites with the exception of Fire and Brimstone. I miss her earlier writing style.
Finally indeed ... 5 years without being together. WTF was Devin thinking :D Charlie was a little too manipulative for my liking but I love the book anyway. Kids was cute and devilish as a mini bradfords. Always fun to read, it warms your inside ,I love this series. Bradfords are my dream book family, they're the fluffiness that I need in my life desperately . So , please R.L. Mathewson I need more fluffiness :D can't wait for the YA series coming this december.
This book was predictable, repetitive and very much the same as the last 10 books in this series. All the girls act the same and all the boys act the same as the one in the book before. It’s a little overdone. I think she should have stopped after book 4 in this series if she wanted to stay original. All the kids act and say things as grown ups as well which makes it pretty unbelievable to read.
This family is also way to big to keep up with. And the books aren’t good enough to read them all again every release. I hope the author starts releasing the kids series now, because as much as I was uninterested in the last few new couples. I can’t wait to read about the kids. Just hoping that they will be original and not so predictable!
This is proof that sometimes you just have to let a series go. I was intrigued with the setup, I liked the MCs, but the formula doesn't work for me anymore. There was a dependence on the obsession with food, and once upon a time I didn't mind the bit but it's the only thing this series has, and now it's just tired. Also, the sentence structure in this one was super goofy and my biggest problem is that all of the characters sound almost exactly alike. There's little to distinguish them from each other, especially since they're all food-obsessed.
12. kitapla birlikte biraz yavan geldi ilk defa.
I really loved the kids. They made the book. The heroine and hero really did click too but those kids. They had me full out laughing. The whole book was excellent.
Original read 7/28/20: ah this series never fails to put a smile on my face 12 books in and I'm attached to all the characters, love the dynamic and all the relationships, what a family! the writing and dialogue can be asinine as times but it's so damn entertaining*-* Re-read 1/8/21
As someone who read all the books in the series, I was really looking forward to Devin Bradford story. A quick summary. We follow Devin who finds himself attracted to Charlie who works for him at his furniture design store. She has been working with him for a while and he has done everything to keep his attraction to her hidden. But when he finds out that she is his new neighbour, he fears that all his emotion would come pouring to the surface. His infatuation with her is not helped with the fact that his children love her and he always finds them in her bed.
Charlie soon becomes a fixture in their lives and things seem to appear weird when she is not around. I didn't fall head over heels with the story but I have to admit that Devin's children were cute and they made reading this story worth it.
Devin Bradford made a promise to his children when they were born and it was to put them first. Following his promise he has kept his distance from the one woman who he truly wants, Charlie. When he hired Charlie he knew he was in trouble. Devin is renting out his apartment attached to his house and when Charlie answers the ad, he lets her move in. Now the woman is underfoot and his twins love her, in fact they want to spend every waking moment with her. Will Devin let his heart have what it clearly wants, Charlie, or will he bungle all of it by keeping his promise?
This was fantastic. I do not remember much of Devin in the previous books but this book made up for it. Devin is trying to do right by his kids, he is an amazing dad but he also is a grump particularly where Charlie is concerned. His children are handfuls but with Charlie she allows them to who they are, precocious children. Thoroughly enjoyed and can't wait for the next book.
The story was cute and I like the book but it is really time to end this series.
I didn't expect to like this book because I really didn't like the last few ones of this series (was a fan at the beginning), but I thought it was a cute story and I enjoyed this quick read.
But I really think the author should end the series. The reason is that all the characters have the same personalities and the same way of speaking. That's why I can't differentiate the family members. Charlie talks like Trevor and Jason. If you didn't know it was her you would think that this was a Bradford boy. Same with the children, they act and talk like children from the previous book. They were cute but again they didn't have their own personality.
It is just a different plot with the same characters again and again.
I was so happy to see this book hit my Kindle. With everything going on in this crazy world, I needed something that would take me away for a while, and time with the Bradford's was just what I needed. As usual, Ms. Mathewson's sharp wit shines through with snappy banter and her delightful sense of humor that will have you laughing out loud in places. But she also brings a large amount of heart that will have you falling in love with her characters that includes some adorable little ones that will melt your heart like butter. Hot, ABSOLUTELY....Sexy, of course....but also sweet, tender (with a few tear-jerking moments), and full of love....Big...HUGE, Thumbs up Ms. Mathewson!
I think it is time to lay this series to rest and start on a new premise. It's fun yes, but it is evident that the same plot element have gone on for too long.
Well i was more patient with this one than the last book. Even if the same things bothered me. The constant repetition of the same words "Sigh, absently, murmured, (and the new winner) sad shake". I'm pretty sure it's made to make things funny but abusing of the saaaame thing over and over is not, not even in the idea of comic of repetition. It's just annoying IMO especially when all the books are the same. The other problem is sometimes i got very confused by some little parts that didn't made any sense... it made the story a bit messy (but nothing new here). What saved the book, was the twins and especially Dustin, with their cuteness and mischief (even if they talk like grown up lol). So yeah i had less difficulties to finish this one even if i was confused a few times and a bit annoyed by the repetition i kinda enjoyed it.
Apparently the author is going to release a YA novel in this serie so i guess it's the end for me. The first books will always be my favorites in this series that's for sure, but i don't mind if it's the end ^^
You know going in that it's going to be an epic journey of laughter. R.L. Mathewson always manages to keep this family fresh and it never gets boring.
When Devin made a promise to himself years ago to always put his kids first I don't think he took the future into consideration. The day Charlie walked into his office he knew she was all wrong for him, the job but that didn't stop him from hiring her before she even made it out the door.
Years later, he's still re-thinking his decision. Being this close to someone that you love and want desperately is slowly killing him. But he's not going to give in.
With her boss Devin constantly glaring at her, Charlie knows its going to get worse when she finally tells him that she's leaving. She has plans and is doing everything to get them to come to life. Her own business is something shes always of dreamed of. She just needs to come up with a name and start cutting back on her expenses. This leads her to right now. At her boss's door with a hope to rent the in-law apartment he has. Though to be fair she had no clue before arriving and there's no way in hell she would have come if she'd known. But she's here now and looking around she realizes just how much they need her.
Get ready to lose your heart, possibly your mind because we are talking the Bradford's here. Another fantastically epic read.
Devin can read his woman like a book, "...Charlie mumbled after a slight pause that had him glancing up from his phone to narrow his eyes on the shower curtain as he asked, “Are you lying to me?” Charlie is quite saucy, “but if you ever screw me over for your own entertainment again, I’ll be forced to kill you in your sleep,” making him wince." I liked this book, I loved Devin.
A nice gentle read with humour, the most adorable terrible twins and heart warming moments. Unfortunately it proved to be too much of a good thing and I was itching for it to get to the hea so I could be done. Poor authors...it's all on the whim of the readers' mood.
Much better than the last one. Still some stupid problems with the h. I have begun to not remember the other couples since the series is many years old but will read the rest.
Love the teasing between the lines. Makes you laugh, grin during the funny times. Didn’t know I would like pancake batter so much. Thanks again for the great reads you make. Your one in million can’t wait for next adventure.
Things I love: How R.L. Mathewson writes The quirkiness of all the characters All the Bradfords All the love that is every one of these books. Devin, Charlie and two kids will have you laughing and turning the pages. Definitely one of my favorites
There was something about this one that really worked for me. Part of it was the cute kids, part of it was the way Charlie would roll with things and part of it was the obsession with food wasn't quite so in your face.
Charlie made me laugh with how she reacted to everything. She just took it in stride and once she really liked something found a way to have it stay in her life. I loved how she took to the kids, how she didn't mind them coming into her place, intruding in personal ways, she saw them for the gems they were and helped when she saw an issue.
Devin made me laugh with his crush on Charlie, how he wanted her but stayed away, even as he gave her a job and a new home. I loved it when the kids weaseled their way into Charlie's life and he was stuck there jealous of them. It did drive me nuts how long it took Devin to get his shit together and see he could have a very happy life with Charlie, but he finally did and let Charlie know in a big way.
Normally I don't like or read books about single parents. It is probably my least favourite romance trope. I'm openly childfree, and being a single parent would be my biggest nightmare. This might be why I'm not into the trope if I'm thinking about it....
So why is it that R.L. Mathewson can write one and I absolutely love it? I have no idea, but she did. Again. The worst thing is, this is one of my favourites of the series! I even liked the children. It doesn't make sense, but I'm just going to have to deal with me loving the book.
This one was the best of the whole series, IMO! I personally, swoon at this story trope when its done right, of course. How do I know if it is done right? Well, I guess when the story has a girl who finds a guy with kids, they aren't like insta-love forget the kids feelings or when everyone just falls in love with the girl unrealistically.
This wasn't like that. I feel like there were enough moments to make the character seem likeable and realistically fall in love with the whole fam. The kids in this book were so sweet and funny and just the fact that they fell in love with Charlie wayyyyy before Devin figured out his feelings for her, just really made the story come together with a sense of rightness.
Sorry if that still doesn't explain anything haa haa. 🤦♀️
I think that it did however, break away a little bit from the original series "rules". For instance, one of the key factors of being a Bradford is their laughable dietary needs. They see food, they fight for said food, and they have been banned from many places for said food. 😋 That is the main thing aside from marrying the girl/guy next door even if they drive you insane, and the whole kidnapping the bride thing. In this book, the food thing is dialed back a lot (which wasn't necessarily a bad thing, just something I thought should be noted). I guess I just felt that it could have brought back that humor that was definitely prominent in the first book (not that it wasn't funny, just not FIRST BOOK LEVEL funny, if you catch my drift). It was pretty funny and ADORABLE when the kids played restaurant with the two because that was literally my favoritest scene of 2021! 😍 Seriously. lol
Other than the food thing and the fact that this couple didn't have that much hate for each other, this was a pretty solid, AWESOMESAUCE, and super cute read. I swooned, I laughed, and I had ultimate feels by the end of the book. I now am nursing a bit of a book hangover, not as much as when I finished burning night (for those who have read a that ending, you get me) because that was a real soul burner. Still, I have a pretty bad book hangover because even though I have over a thousand books (yeah I still don't understand how I have so many lol) in my TBR stack and more in my mental TBR list, I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO READ NEXT! 😭 I swear this happens WAYYYYY too often. Like a freaking rollercoaster. 🙄 But I guess that's a price to pay to read so many yummy and amazing books every day. *Shrug/swoon*
Well, that's pretty much what I thought about this one! I think I will be totally reading this one again sometime in the future because its now one of my favorite NFH books.
I so badly wanted to like this book. I really did. I have loved this series since I first discovered it years ago and when I finally got my reading groove back and saw another book had been released I purchased it as fast as I could. And then, I struggled to read it. Parts were physically painful to read. The book was choppy, repetitive, and honestly I’m not sure why it was written because there was no substance to the plot. There wasn’t any major conflict, the conversations between Devin and Charlie were just then repeating what the other said over and over. There was no progression of the relationship, it just overall made me sad. The first books in this series were SO good, had me laughing so hard I was in tears, and this one just... wasn’t. It felt like it was written by a high schooler trying to reach a word count and not by the amazing author who has written some of my favorite books. Every time someone sighed I cringed, I’m surprised that characters never got whiplash from all of the solemn nodding they did, and I REALLY felt physical pain in my soul every time the word really was used. Which in case you were wondering was 173 times (I checked) in 229 pages. You would have entire paragraphs that just said the same thing over and over. Split scenes from other family members were placed in that made no sense, you couldn’t really keep track of how much time had passed, I came out not knowing anything new about the characters, and it was just overall unbelievable in the worst kind of way. The only reason I rated two stars instead of one is because I KNOW the author is capable of so much better than this. I also purchased the two books from the anger management series and I’m hoping that with a new set of characters and a fresh story line that they’re better written, because it honestly feels like the author went from loving what they do to just trying to pump out books. The past few books have been getting progressively worse and that makes me sad.
Oh, it's been a while since I enjoyed an NFH book this much! Probably since the second book in the series (and my still favorite).
I had an absolute blast with this novel from beginning to end. Devin was a sweet single dad, Dustin and Abbi were adorable little brats, and Charlie fit right in with the Bradfords with her humor and carefree attitude.
This was also relatively slow burn. The two were attracted to each other from the get-go, but physical stuff only happened later on, after Charlie was basically an honorary member of the family already. And personally, I loved that. I loved how she fit into their world even without them officially dating.
There was only one point of contention for me with this story, which happened near the end. I did not enjoy the shaming tone the story took once
The real issue was that after making that choice for himself, Devin should have given Charlie the option to make the choice of whether she was ok with that. He should not have hid that from the woman he wanted to spend the rest of his life with. They should've discussed it--and whether it was a deal breaker--before moving into a relationship. And instead of , the two should have discussed it. Like, this shouldn't have been an issue - it should have been a discussion, and it should've been a discussion about concealing this information rather than about the act itself...
