Hakeem & Tasia: A Brick City Love Story

Rate this book
Hakeem was an all-American ball player who had offers for a full ride to just about every Division 1 School across the country. Then suddenly everything in his life changes when his parents are tragically killed in a fatal car accident, leaving him to care for himself and his twelve-year-old sister, Kaliyah. Seven years later, Hakeem is a senior at Essex County College, Kaliyah is about to graduate from high school and Hakeem is supporting them by working for Simuel, a local drug dealer.

Tasia has been in love with Hakeem since freshman year when he came strolling in her Literature class, taking the seat that she had already claimed. Although she could see ther feelings were mutual, through the years they never seemed to be able to find their way to each other. Now months away from graduation, Tasia has an encounter that causes Hakeem to place Tasia under his protection.

With graduation approaching, Tasia’s dreams of moving to New York to become a fashion designer are more important than ever. But Tasia knows that Hakeem will never leave the streets alone, especially now that he has agreed to take over for Simuel. With a choice between being whether to follow her dreams or be the sheltered girlfriend of a thug weighing heavily on her mind, she has a tough choice to make. And her decision could lead to her losing the love of her life.

Love Story

This was a love story at its best. Hakeem and Tasia had been in love each other just about all of their lives, but neither would admit it to the other. They were both stubborn and set in their ways. I'm glad that they finally stopped playing games and finally got together. They were finally on the right road to happiness, and then something happened to change all that. Part 2, here I come.

Just okay

Tay is the first Character that I can honestly day I didn't like. I read all the way to the end to see if my feelings would change towards her but she's just annoying😩 poor Keem for having to deal with her

I'm giving it five stars because it was a good story and I enjoyed it. I also read it from beginning to the end which nowadays is rare for me. It's worth reading and I shall be reading more of her stuff.

It's a typical 'bad boy working on the street to get rich quick' and 'respectable girl with enough hood in her to be down' story.

Hakeem is an orphan with a younger sister to raise so does he what comes easy to him to keep his 'family' together. This means his kid sister isn't on the street looking for some attention. He wants to be a baller but that doesn't really work out due to the lull of quick street money. He's a serious young man, with strong values - has his own code ethics which he sticks to, and respects women. He's a honourable man if you could call a dope dealer that. He is likeable even when he is body bagging others that have crossed him - hey but this is part of the urban mix.

Tasia (Tay), she is okay. Typical fair skinned chick who keeps telling us about her vanilla complexion and long straight hair. Okay. She had dreams but has a sweet spot for Hakeem, however she wants to keep focused on her dreams so doesn't really go for it with him.

A bad event happens that brings them together as a couple and they fall in love. This is really when the story takes off and in sort of "will they, won't they" way. It's the kind of book you need to read to see how sweetly KC Mills writes this story. It's so tender and loving in parts that I really felt for this couple. KC writes with heart.

I also found her prose respectful with the right balance. Even though it was street it wasn't about gucci, prada, lou or materialistic or putting down people in a derogatory way. It was about real life hustle with the urban genre stamp. Great story.

Yeah, it's a series but it's pretty easy to see she's developing parallel storylines with other characters and given Hakeem's line of business, life would be a roller coaster. So it's really can Tasia be the wife/wifey/girl of thug and stand by him? Or does she want to continue in her clean world of fashion. KC has already planted the other women eyeing up Hakeem, even one under Tasia's nose who Hakeem's body (not mind) is currently feeling. So hopefully book two will bring all this out in an explosive way.

One thing, and this is really to do with the her publisher investing in its talent. KC Mills is an ace writer and to breakout to a wider audience it could have been edited to clear typos and other grammatical errors. More sales more profit.

I’ve read better when it comes to the typical dope boy good girl books. I just think that if you don’t know much about something it’s okay to touch on it but don’t go into detail because it makes you sound silly. Nothing much happened in this one...(end review here!) LOL. No nothing went on really beside Keem and Tasia go back and forth not really knowing if they want to try out a relationship. Then Tasia turns to Keem to get over a situation that came out of left field. He takes care of the problem, fast forward six months or so later...Keem pops up on Tasia to see what’s going on with her new relationship. She of course drops the guy then Keem moves to NY. Then to bring you back for the next one you get the ending and in all honesty I could do without the next one. It was just boring. I enjoyed Keem but the dope boy mess was so scatter brained that it didn’t make sense. And for this to come out of Leo Sullivan camp it could really use some work.

K.C. Mills

This author has yet to disappoint me. Every book I've read of hers I can't put down until it's finished. I literally stay up all night reading. Keem n Tay what can I say, I love them already I can tell they will be up there at the top with some of my other favorite hood couples. Jodie is just a mess n I hope we get more about him, Talen, n the rest of the crew in the next one. I'm not one to give away spoilers so all I'll say is this a must read n I can't wait till part two drops. K.C. Mills I love your style of writing n the way the stories just flow n how you draw your readers into the characters.....keep up the good work.

This book is about love even after years have went by. It was good that Hakeem & Tasia have been friends for a long time. They go through ups and down but finally get it together. They both have achieved what they wanted &was doing well with supporting each other. The only thing is can their relationship deal with the constant disrespect or with the streets. They are dealing with new people but are they trustworthy. Ready to read Part 2 to find out. Let's see what happens when the police are involved.

Good story, bad editing

Idk why I thought this 1 would be edited, lol. I read your books because the stories are interesting and they could be great but, the editing takes away from them. There are whole words missing, not just misspelled words and words in the wrong context.
