I Never Thought I'd Go Home Again

I spent too many years in the tiny town of Gilmore Falls, Texas.
When I left home, I wanted to experience the world.
I was happy as a veterinarian in a busy Beverly Hills Practice.

Or so I thought.

But when I became unexpectedly pregnant and had to go home to take care of my parents, there was only one thing on my mind.

My childhood best friend.

We'd lost touch after an ill-fated kiss during our senior prom.
But the chemistry that connected us was still there.

Was it too late to recapture the friendship we had?
Could it be more than friendship?
=e.

Or, would he not want me because I was carrying another man's baby?

Prodigal Love Comes Home

For 17 years Christine and Todd were inseparable best friends, but sometimes even best friends have misunderstandings. Christine Aherns was ready to leave Gilmore Falls, Texas for college at UCLA. She had big dreams—to be a veterinarian—and nothing would stand in her way—not even the declaration of love and the unexpected kiss from her nerdy best friend, Todd Goodman. She loved him, but not like “that”.

Now, 9 years later Christine, has come home after an emergency call from her dad explaining that her mom had fallen, needed surgery, and he needed his only daughter to help him cope with the crisis. But, Christine is dealing with her own personal crises. She has had two life changing epiphanies within a matter of days—she has learned that she is pregnant, and she has learned that the father of her baby is a married man with a child and a wife who is also pregnant with another child.

Christine's return to Texas becomes a reset for who she is, what she wants and who she loves and trusts. Todd, who has never stopped loving Christine, must balance his own desires--her--with the needs of the confused and stressed Christine. Todd's own personal crisis of employment seems to serve to be both a source of concern and a to be a possibility of new pathways. As Riley unrolls her tale of second chances, it is also a tale of alternate pathways and open minds and maturing hearts.

While I have enjoyed other Riley romances, this tale pushes the bounds of believability and coincidences. Jillian Riley challenges her reader to quickly move from one life crisis to another and to accept the tangled plot with so many complications that it is difficult to process all the emotional upheavals. I want to sympathize with the characters, but the writer does not provide enough character and plot development to allow the reader to bond with the characters and the complications of their lives. The story provides a HEA ending, but the whole situation is not pleasing or satisfying with many unsettled lives and plot threads at the close of the romance.

What a wonderful, feel-good story! Jillian has created a small town that pulls you in and will not let you go. The characters are familiar, yet new. The story is as old as time. I found myself caring about the people, their lives and families. This book has a small town girl who made it in the big city, a small town boy who came home, family angst, and a second chance too good to pass up. I loved this book!
After college, Todd came home to the small town he was born in, Teaching kindergarten is a boon; Todd loves kids. Christine is a veterinarian in Beverly Hills. She didn't know her "boyfriend" was married. Now pregnant, she is called home after her mother falls and needs extra care. Then she run into Todd, the only man she has ever loved. Todd has never given up on Christine. As he starts to win her back, hilarity and miscues abound. Will Christine be able to admit she wants to stay? Can Todd accept and love a child that isn't his? With the help of friends and family, these two lovebirds will finally realize what has been in front of them all the time. All they have to do is hold on. Not even her awful baby daddy showing up can spoil what they have...love.
This book contains adult themes and language, steamy sex, and is intended for mature readers only.

Todd Goodman and Christine Ahrens knew each other from their school days and were best friends. Todd eventually developed deeper feelings for her but didn’t act on them right away. When he kissed her on prom night, she hastily left town to attend college and become a veterinarian with no intention of returning.

After being apart for ten years, Todd is teaching kindergarten children, still living in the small town of Gilmore Falls, Texas. Christine accomplished her dream and did become a veterinarian in LA. However, her father called her to come back home to help care for her mother who had a serious fall. Her veterinarian practice in Beverly Hills was not as glamorous as she had hoped, and it was a good stopping point to come back home.

When Christine came back, she reconnected with Todd and old feelings were renewed. But she’s now pregnant by a man who was already married and had misled her. Would Todd still want her in his life when she carried another man’s baby?

This was like the “perils of Pauline” serial where Christine’s life is buried under a pile of overwhelming disasters. But the basic story line was good, and the addition of a puppy adds a spark of fun to things. Grab your copy and see if Todd and Christine will finally find their HEA.

The story centres around Christine, a vet working in LA and her childhood best friend Todd, who still lives back home in the town they both grew up in, working as an elementary schoolteacher. Christine hates her job, basically grooming pets of the rich and famous, rather than using her skills as a trained veterinarian. Todd loves his job as a teacher, but his life is thrown a curveball when he finds a puppy on his doorstep. He struggles to adapt to the challenges that he initially faces, hoping to find the puppy’s owner. Christine is thrown a different curveball when she finds out that she’s pregnant. Although best friends until they were eighteen, she hasn’t spoken to Todd since the night he kissed her and then ran away. Todd was in love with Christine and read the signals wrong......When life find Christine suddenly having to return to her hometown, she runs into Todd for the first time in ten years, since the night of the kiss. This is an enjoyable book that is well written with interesting characters. It’s a heartwarming story that keeps you turning the pages to the very end. Absolutely loved it:-)

Wanderlust is a sweet novella that takes place in the small town of Gilmore Falls, population 7500, where everyone knows everyone as well as their business.
Todd Goodman and Christine Ahrens met when they were kids and became best friends. As they got older, Todd started to see Christine as something more than a friend and when he kisses her on prom night, she runs away never looking back.
Fast forward ten years and Todd is now a kindergarten teacher and Christine a veterinarian in LA. But when a family emergency occurs, and Christine is at a crossroads in her life, she returns home.
Needless to say, feelings come out but obstacles are overwhelming everyone.
Will they get their second chance or will Christine return to her life in LA leaving Todd once again behind?
It’s always difficult to write novellas, but the author managed to do a fairly good job with the character and plot development. I did feel a secondary character was left up in the air, but all in all, an entertaining story for an afternoon of leisure.

What a wonderful story of how our childhood dreams can come true!

Dr. Christine Ahrens, a veterinarian, loved working with animals, however, she wanted to do more than what the folks of Beverly Hills asked of her. The small-town girl, in the big city, didn't seem like the proper fit. Oh, how Christine wanted to truly use her vet skills and help out those animals in need, not just to groom them.

Todd always wanted to be a teacher. After attending school, he returned to his small hometown and taught kindergarten. He loved his small town, however, he knew something was missing, his childhood friend Christine.

Through no direction of their own, Christine and Todd find themselves face to face in their small hometown after being apart for about 10 years. Their connection was as strong as the night of prom all those years ago. To find out how these two came face to face and brought new life to an old flame, you must read this book. You won't be disappointed, and you might even believe in the magic of small-towns.

Christine was a vet in LA not really enjoying her job. She's feeling and after a co worker says she might be pregnan. She doubts it but gets a test to put the thought out of her head. Well her test shows PREGNANT! Not the result she wanted. She tells the baby daddy. Once she does, we finds out he's married! What is she doing to do now?
Todd is a school teacher who inherited a puppy on the middle of the night. Last thing he wants is a puppy, as he's dropping the pup off to a dog sitter. It just happens to be at the hospital where the dog sitter works. He runs into Christine as she's home for a family emergency. Her mom fell. They both are shocked to see each other. They were best friends in school. All their feelings came flooding back. She ends up telling him about the pregnancy, her life back in LA but she still loves him. He loves her & wants to marry her & be by her side to raise the baby. So much changes in her life. Moving, job, baby, marriage. Life couldn't be better. Marrying your best friend! Such a good book. Couldn't put down.

Welcome to Gilmore Hills, a typical small town where everyone knows everyone AND all their business. Christine has temporarily left her job as a Beverly Hills veterinary to help with her mom after orthopedic surgery. At the hospital she runs into the man who was her best friend for 17 years until prom night. Todd had fallen in love with Christine, and he finally kisses her outside the prom. When he sees her reaction to it, he literally runs away.

Even after 10 years, Todd is still in love with her. She’s still attracted to him. Each believes that they are at fault for never speaking to each other afterwards. At first they both muddle through apologies, but then they realize that it was a misunderstanding. They confess their secrets - he might lose his job as a kindergarten teacher - she’s pregnant and alone. Will they be able to come together for each other or is it too late?

Jillian Riley has brought us a delightful HEA second chance romance!

Wander and Lust has a way of creating desires that are hard to deny until the unbelievable happens and opens your eyes to reality of the world and the person to whom they really are. Christine receives a call from her father regarding her mother who has fallen and is in need of surgery. But at the same time she discovers she is pregnant by the man whom has misled her as he is married has a child and his wife is expecting another baby. Can you say drama? So Christine goes home and reconnects with her childhood friend Todd who still has undeniable feelings for her. Will Todd be able to accept her as she is and that she is carrying another man's baby?
I absolutely loved this story. The storyline was so interesting that it completely captivated me and was so intriguing that I couldn’t stop reading it until I finished with the very last word. I definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for an amazing book. Enjoy happy reading 📚

Wanderlust is a warm, sweet romance.

Christine is unexpectedly pregnant. Added to the fact that her baby's daddy is suddenly less than supportive, she finds she has to hurry back home to Gilmore Falls to deal with a family emergency. While there, she runs into her former best friend, Todd.

Todd has never forgotten his best friend, or forgiven himself for ruining their friendship 10 years prior with an ill-timed kiss. He'd been in love with her for a long time, but was afraid she didn't feel the same way. Will her emergency trip home be their second chance?

The author used the parallels of child rearing and pet care to craft her story line. It was well done, and kept my attention throughout. I liked hearing about Cold Brew's antics! I was glad that Christine & Todd got their HEA. I enjoyed the narration, too. It was clear, and well-nuanced.

Never give up on love. You can have your best friend and love too.

Todd and Christine were best friends all through school. But Todd was in love with Christine. He kissed her at prom and then ran off. Christine is now a veterinarian working in LA. Her mother falls and Christine has to go home to help take care of her. She runs into Todd at the hospital. Todd is still in love with her and she still doesn’t know it. She just thinks they’re best friends who haven’t seen each other in 10 years. Is he the one that got away? Should she apologize for her reaction to the kiss? They are just so perfect for each other. Best friends to lovers. That’s my kind of book. A really sweet romance where best friends make a wonderful life together.

Wanderlust by Jillian Riley is a sweet, tender second-chance romance by Jillian Riley. It’s the story of Christine and Todd. She’s a Veterinarian in Beverly Hills and he’s a Kindergarten teacher in their home town….AND they were High School sweethearts until she left him….with no reason.

Now, her mother has fallen and she’s back! Can they overcome all of the obstacles that hindered them when they were younger? Can she overcome the situation she is currently in with her old boyfriend?? This is a wonderful romance that will melt your heart!!!!

Christine was a veterinarian with a practice in Beverly Hills, California. Her father called and asked her to come home to Texas to help with her mother because she had fallen and could not take care of herself. She had not been home in ten years. Once home, she met an old friend, Todd. Sparks flew, their old feeling came to the forefront. Todd had adopted a puppy, Cold Brew. Everyone fell in love with Cold Brew at first sight. It is a very sweet love story and the cute puppy played a big part. I recommend Wanderlust by Jillian Riley. If you like a story with a cute puppy and a happy ending, this one is for you.

Christine is a vet in LA. You know how they say bad things come in three? Well Christine is having one of those days. She finds out she's pregnant with a guy she feels so so about; her mom falls and ends up in the hospital; and she discovers her so so boyfriends secret.
What's a girl to do? Go home and try to figure it all out.
I love her dad's nickname for her.
Todd is her bff whom she has not talk since that kiss. Todd is a kindergarten teacher.
When these two run into each other, the feelings are strong but neither wants to admit to them or, gosh forbid communicate with the other one.
This story flows well. You'll want to smack Christine when Mark typurns up in her hometown and she's thinking about his proposal.
Todd and Christine do get their HEA.

Todd Goodman and Christine Ahrens knew each other from their school days and were best friends.Christine leaves town to become a veterinarian, while Todd remained in Gilmore, teaching kindergarten. Christine and Todd reconnect after ten years when Christine, was called back home. The flame that was banked ten years ago was rekindled, but this time, Christine is fighting her doubts. She is, after all, pregnant with another man's child.

Jillian Riley never ceases to amaze me with her stories. Sometimes sad, sometimes funny, sometimes long winded, but always, always, heartwarming in the end.

Reading her stories is always worth it!

Christine is a veterinarian who lives in LA. Christine just found out she was pregnant and that her boyfriend was married with a child and another on its way. She wasn’t sure what she was going to do,

Christine’s dad called and told her she was needed at home because her mom fell and was in surgery. It had been years since she had been home. Her longtime friend, Todd, was there. They hadn’t spoke since he kissed her before she went to college.

Can Christine and Todd become friends again? Will it become more? Will she stay in LA or move back home? Can Todd accept her pregnancy by another man? You will need to read to find out!

A good coming home story

Christine left for college and never looked back. She always wanted to be a vet, but not one that caters to spoiled pets and their equally spoiled owners. When she’s called home after her other takes a fall, she looks around her and wonders why she left. Oh, and to add to her life, she’s pregnant.

Kindergarten teacher Todd never left his hometown, and that’s just how he likes it. When a stray dog shows up on his doorstep one morning, he never thinks that it could lead to his first and only love, Christine.

It was a nice story of finding your way back to where you actually belong. It was interesting how life happened and forced people to find their places, the places and people who they truly belonged. It was a pleasant story that I'm sure a lot of people would be able to relate to. I appreciated that that characters had their own baggage and hesitations. I also loved the small town charm that went along with it.

I love second chance stories and their HEA. Wanderlust is an amazing second chance story with a strong female character who is determined and knows what she wants, and with a caring male character who does not give up.

Even after the uncertainty of her future, Christina stays strong and follows her heart. Todd, who has love Christina since they were kids, continues to takes a chance on love.

Their friendship and love continued to grow over the years, even when they were miles apart.

I received an arc for an honest review. I liked this book. The main characters, Todd and Christine were best friends growing up - however, Christina had her dream of becoming a Vet, and even though she knew that Todd felt romantic towards her, she left, leaving Todd heartbroken. When her father calls and needs help taking care of her mother, Christine comes back home, pregnant. Christine wonders if she can get Todd to forgive her for leaving like she did. Its a short read.

This story was a fairly quick read for me, and I liked the dual POV, even though it was somewhat challenging trying to figure out who's POV it was. Their 2nd chance at romance happened really quickly, but I thought it was cute and adorable. This is definitely a feel-good HEA romance book!

I read this wonderful (to me) book in one sitting. The author did a great job starting off the story which gave me the idea about Christine. I liked the character and her ideas of living her life. Mark, her off and on guy was interesting. Todd, the boy from school was so different and likeable. So I had to read to know how this would end. The little twists were so in tune with the plot. I recommend this book

Loved the story line. No matter the your life problems you can always go home. You may even find your lost love. Christine and Todd grew up as best friends but hadn't seen one another for years. Due to family emergency Christine came home and met up with her best friend. They finally admitted how they felt about each other

This book was a heartwarming friend to lover story. Todd and Christine had a kiss at the prom and then didn't see each other for ten years. The story was interesting and kept the pages turning from beginning to end. Christine was pregnant and Todd had just found a puppy and was about to lose his job when they reconnected. Luckily they found they still had chemistry and didn't waste time getting back together for a happy ending. It was an enjoyable story.
