A hedge witch enrolls at another supernatural academy and gets caught between a centuries old war. Don't even get me started on what Lucifer wants from me. It's getting way too complicated being Alessia Hastings.
Bloodline Diplomacy includes: 2 Godlike beings hell bent on destroying the Earth; 2 Supernatural academies vying for control of our heroine; 1 protective hero at the end of his tether; 1 dingo sidekick just because the author loves animals; ...and last but definitely not least, 1 snarky heroine who is this close to tearing her hair out. Instead she'll settle for kicking some serious supernatural butt.
There's only one thing I know for sure: witches be crazy. I just can't decide whether I'm with them or against them. Here I go again.
Bloodline Diplomacy is book 3 in the Bloodline Academy series. It is an Australian Young Adult Urban Fantasy series. Filled with pulse-pounding action, snarky dialogue and slow burn romance. Think Buffy meets Shadowspell Academy with a side order of Supernatural.

Lan Chan is a writer, gardener and professional procrastinator based in Melbourne, Australia. She is still waiting for her super powers to manifest but until then she writes young adult novels featuring strong female protagonists, minority characters and has a particular interest in dystopias and urban fantasy. Lan’s debut novel POISON, the first in her WIND DANCER series is due for release in September 2015.
There were many flaws with this one, to be honest, and the one who was about to tear her hair was me. I was )( this close to lose my shit and scream at my screen, but then I remembered that I was at work and that wasn't okay, lol.
I wanted to beat the shit out of Lex and the rest of the characters. Like are you going to tell me that some of these characters are ancient, like so really fucking old, and can't see how much Lex is trying to tell them that Lucifer is back? C'mon, Basil, I expected more from you since you've been around for a while.
I also didn't know I was rooting for the supernaturals until the Sisterhood girls were being mean with Lex, lol. I didn't like the folks in Terran Academy that much, but I honestly did understand what was their point in all of this.
Overall, it wasn't that bad, but I was left a bit sour. However, the endings of these books are so good, gods.
💌 ⊹ ۪ ࣪ ꒰ pre-read: ok, things are getting so much better, i'm into this series
In which we discover things are way more complicated than we thought!
After Book 2, it felt like things were moving forward, so the beginning of Book 3 was surprising as the plot takes a different direction, & things become more complicated. I realized that the plot is essentially moving forward by spreading out.
So, the story is more complex than I had thought, which is intriguing, as well as exciting, but it means that it feels a little diffuse at the beginning, & it wasn't until around 30 or 40% into the story that it felt like it had found its legs again.
Because of that, initially, I was worried that it had lost its way, but instead, it has succeeded in building up major anticipation for Book 4, & I can't wait!!
I am in so much AGONY, I AM through with this third book now I have to find something else to read until the next book comes out. What am I going to read until number #4 comes to my KINDLE ??? I have ten days to occupy my mind. I can hardly wait to find out what is in store for my favorite couples. I have a very big complaint with KINDLE or the Authors of these books. It's probably not a big deal for a lot of people but is it too much trouble for them to let us know how many pages are in these books ? I HATE paying $ 3.99 or more for a book only to later find out that there are only 200 or less pages. I gladly pay it if I really 💘 Love the series but it really digs into the bottom of my pocket. I want to thank Lan Chan for writing such wonderful books, They keep me glued to the screen with every word. I love 💘 when an Author has a way way of grabbing my attention and doesn't let go until the last word. Her world building let's me become one of the characters and I feel like I am right there with them.
Overall love the series but didn’t like this book as much. In the last one she seemed to be sort of starting to come into her own and being accepted by more people (begrudgingly for some 🤷🏾♀️) but this one she’s once again a pawn/tool and doesn’t have much say over what happens with her life. She’s being treated like a liability again. It just felt like a major step back. Also, much of the book felt like fluff and we could have skipped much of this whole book and not have missed much continuity wise. What irked me most though is the stupidness of some things. An example, everyone but her is fully ensconced in the magical world since birth but no one figures out what Lucifer did to her despite her reactions. Really? Basil’s ancient and he doesn’t have any inkling something is wrong and what it might be? Right. Or how about that scene in the forest? I want even get started on her constant waffling. Sigh. Hope next book is better.
The series is turning into one of those that I hate.
Alessia/Lex is losing her agency more and more with each installment. She seems to have no free will, or lacks the wherewithal to engage it. She spent 80% of this book sitting around being angry about everyone manipulating, gaslighting, and guilt-tripping her without ever confronting them. She overlooks or forgives egregious offenses for no reason I can figure out. At this point she's acting like an abuse victim, and she seems perfectly happy to stay that way.
This is rapidly becoming a story of people being willfully stupid in the name of moving the plot forward. I'm going to give the series one more book to get things on a better track, but at the moment it's on thin ice.
Starts from a cliffhanger with no explanation ends in a cliffhanger.
If you are patient enough to wait for the whole series to be done this will probably be a good book. However, I find it very frustrating that this “book“ is actually really a chapter not a full novel. Don’t bother reading it until you’ve read the first one, and prepare yourself for an end that does not actually end… have I mentioned I hate cliffhangers?
I was really disappointed when I read this book because the first two books of the series were so good. In this one it was just too complicated and felt like it was a different series. Lex wasn’t the same character in this and the writing was a tad confusing. Least to say I was very dissatisfied and disappointed when I read this.
Bloodline Diplomacy (Bloodline Academy Book 3) ~~ This book was emotional warfare. Lex steps into power but it costs her everything ~ friendships, safety, loyalty, and the ability to trust. Someone she believed would stand by her turns on her, and that betrayal almost broke *me.*
The political manipulation and nonstop tension in this book had me chewing my nails. The mission beyond academy walls had my heart in my throat ~ especially when someone doesn’t make it back alive. The grief and guilt Lex carries afterwards made her feel so human despite the power she’s wielding.
And the moment between Lex and Kai after the loss… I cried. These two are drawn together like magnets even when their hearts are tearing apart. The final battle of the book was wild ~ and the closing scene left me breathless.
I would definitely recommend this book and series and can’t wait to start on the next book. If you want to know what happens next, you’ll just have to read this series yourself ~ you won’t regret it !!!
This series just gets better and better! I’m an avid reader, and generally can predict ‘where’ a storyline is heading, however this series keeps surprising me with the twists in the plot that may lead to where I thought it was going, and sometimes in a completely different direction altogether. The last chapter has another twist/cliffhanger, but I have to say I’m left wondering why Malachi hasn’t learnt from his previous lack of honesty/ openness! Well I’m off to get the next book to find out 😉
Us and them, monsters and mayhem. Witches and humans, the world is not ready for the supernatural. In every race there always seems to be beautiful mean girls especially the Fae or Angelic species and Alessia seem to meet them all. Some secret ms about her past are revealed and where she comes from but she is still viewed liked a dangerous exotic animal in the zoo. It is hard to trust people when they openly distrust her after all she has done, I would be less welcoming that's for sure. She is so selfless despite having to look out for herself on the streets.
That ending as me anticipating the next book. Lex is pissed and rightfully so. Heads will roll!
This book had a lot of action. So many more things revealed. The new characters made things quite interesting. Kai is as protective as ever. Blood, death, and chaos tend to spring up around Alessia.
The council is still infuriating. Lucifer is still trying all he can to get to Lex.
I've read over 300 books this year alone, the majority of which are Sci fi/fantasy. I often forget books within a few weeks and need to read the description to see if it sounds familiar before adding to my kindle. This is not the case for this series. It is my absolute favorite series ever. So, so we'll written. Creative, fantastic character development, to the point the characters feel real to me. I hate writing reviews but felt it was necessary for this one. Lan Chan is a literary genius.
“Why are you doing this?” Why in hell did I do anything? “Because somebody has to do it, and the rest of you are all too stubborn to admit when you’re wrong. At least I know I’m stupid.” Lex is still awesome, Malachi is still stubborn, and the supernatural world is definitely a hot mess and I loved every second of it!
Yet again, Lan has hit it out of the park, and yet left me yearning for more. I can't wait for the next book. Is poor Alessia ever going to catch a break? I swear with everything Alessia goes through, I'd probably be on Lucifer's side myself by now!
So Glad I decided to pick this series up especially since I have been in a bit of a book slump! This is exactly everything that I want out of a book series action, adventure, suspense and love! I could not put this book down. I cannot wait to check out what other books this author has wrote bc she has a mind I definitely want to explore.
3.75 stars This was so much better than Book 1 and 2. The book was quite interesting, focusing more on descriptions, less on dialogue. I loved the new information we learned and wished there was more featured on the school for the Soul Sisters. Compared to Book 1 and 2, this book was a lot faster in pacing.
I enjoy these characters, but I'm having real trouble with acceptance of some things. They're really going to let Giselle out? And Lex is ok with Matilda who tried to rip Kia's soul out???? And it's ok that Rachel killed ? I guess I'm more blood thirsty. I'll somewhat ignore this so I can keep reading cause I do like the series and the writing is good.

I am obsessed with this series! Not just this book but ALL so far! I do though how I’m this book you start to get some answers about who and what lex is! I’m excited to see what happens next!!! Deff recommend this book and all the others !!!! Many twist and turns also which keep you sucked in and intrigued. Much praise to the talented writer!!!!
Nope just nope... Waarom!?

Not sure I like where the series is taking me, but it is still captivating. I would not have ended this book the way the author did because I would have had the main character throat punch the other character. Maybe she will at the start of the next book. I can only hope.
And if my last few sentences didn't cue you in, I am deeply invested in the main character.
This story is getting very boring and way too drawn out. Also we started Sophie’s story in book 0 and it wasn’t finished and she was barely in this book. Stop Lex’s boring story and go back to telling Sophie’s.
Absolutely love the characters and style of writing. Can not wait for the next book and all it holds! The weaving of story and real world is so great in my opinion.
I like the series so far. No spoilers here, but it has some nice twists. The series is worth the read. I know you would think another paranormal academy series??? All I can say is I am wrapped in Lex's adventures.
Invited to another academy gives Lex a chance to learn how to help her Nanna. But they are so close minded and think supernaturals are all monsters. But the Council did try to kill them off.
I love this series...this is my first series from this author but she hasn't missed a beat, the story telling, the action and intrigue is simply amazing. Can't wait to delve into the next one.
For every step forward Alessia gets pulled or pushed two steps back. So the big reveal occurs in this book. It’s not super shocking with all the teasers in prior books. Though there is a Kai surprise that is juicy.
