Xavier Thorne, former SEAL and chief of medicine at New Hope Hospital, buries his turbulent past safely where it could no longer touch him—until Jane Doe’s case resurrects the whispers and doubts haunting him, until his every moment is consumed with bringing her back from the brink of death, with the hope of getting answers that may just free them both from the demons of the past.
Laramie Caine, reformed wild child, finally stumbles on danger she can’t handle, the fire hot enough that it almost costs her everything including her life. Her need to get well to return to the daughter she’s left behind ignites a furious will to live. The voice in the dark spurs her on, and when she wakes up and finds that voice is none other than the doctor who saved her, she’s tempted to be reckless just one more time, and gamble with a real shot at losing her heart.
The clock is ticking while the enemy lies in wait. As Laramie’s strength grows, the bond between doctor and patient evolves into a stunning bond capable of unthawing Xavier’s frozen heart. When the enemy draws near, Xavier must take a side in the war between taking life and saving it. The time is here where he must decide if he’s the SEAL to protect her or the man to put her back together after her final dance with the Devil, hoping there are enough pieces to stitch together one last time.
USA Today Bestselling author Casey Hagen pens her stories from the salty air of Kennebunk, Maine. She's the author of over 30 books that would make your mama raise her eyebrows if she caught you reading them!
Have you ever read a book, knowing that it is a series, only to be disappointed when the last book, the one where you are expecting that the character that you are anxiously waiting for, was given a totally different story?
This was one. Don’t get me wrong, Xavier Thorne’s story—Casey Hagen did give justice to the Fierce Protectors series, which is a part of Susan Stoker’s Special Forces World.
Nevertheless, I still loved this story for how it was crafted.
Trusting Xavier—this version of Xavier Thorne—revolves around the story of ex-Navy SEAL turned surgeon Xavier Thorne, who is battling memories of the child he lost. He saves the life of Laramie Caine, who was almost beaten to death by her abusive husband. Together, and with the help of Xavier’s team, they bring down a child trafficking ring bent on terrorizing pregnant women.
Casey Hagen’s story is by itself a good read, and I honestly felt for this version of Xavier Thorne, as it can, and does, hit one’s emotions when confronted with the loss of a child. For that, I give her 5 stars.
Where to began. Such a great read. Lucas hasn't seen his sister, Laramie in 8 years and the first time he sees her again she has been beaten within an inch of her life and been has been at the center for almost a month. Xavier has asked him to be at her bedside so she sees a familiar face as she wakes up. Laramie is a strong warrior woman that has been thru a lot and hold the key to unravel her husband's crimes. Xavier the Dr that has taken care of Laramie while she recovers is drawn to her but can he trust the feelings he has face his demons to feel sorry of love. Such a great read.
Xavier met Laramie when she was brought it beaten half to death. As her Dr. He had watched as she died on the table 3 times. When he finally got her to a room he watched over her for a month. He was worried about her daughter too. They hadn't been able to get her to speak the whole time. When Laramie woke up she said you had to speak her language. It was then they discovered she was deaf.
Trusting Xavier is another short but intense story... Laramie stole this story from Xavier..she was the alpha lead in my opinion and I loved how the author gave her strength, humor, endless love and the ability to get past her mistakes. This story picks up right were Trusting Lucas ends so I highly recommend reading this series in order. Happy Reading!!
I loved this book. Very emotional. Xavier's past just made me hurt for him and Laramie's was just as traumatic but between the two, they were perfect for each other. This story made me cry, especially at the end there were happy tears. great story.
This is a good story that adds new characters Laramie & her daughter, Harmony to the development of the New Hope saga. Well worth the read, it is another great storyteller!
I have read the whole series!!! They grab you from the very beginning and until the very end were you wish there was more to read . Thank you for the stories you wrote
This the 1st book I've read by this author but I am here to tell you this book is a gut punching, heart squeezing, tear jerker and yet full of the strongest men and women that go against all odds to save those being held against their will. Loved it!!❤❤❤❤
Omg! I was blown away with the plot from the first pages I read. The tale is one as old a time. Women being abused and used. The twists are great. Awesome read.
I’ve just finished all of this series and I had every emotion possible while reading. I absolutely loved this series and I’ll definitely be reading more of casey’s books
I received this book as part of an ARC review. Xavier has been looking after a patient since she was brought to New Hope Hospital. She was listed as Jane Doe and her daughter who was quiet and unknown as well. They find out Jane is actually Laramie Caine and the sister of Lucas. When Laramie wakes up and can talk, she gives them the clue to talk with her daughter. Xavier is the first to talk to Harmony in sign language. Laramie improves quickly once awake and wants to grow stronger. She is a fighter and no victim. Laramie and Harlan have the evidence to put away Laramie's husband, Jackson, and all his buddies in the baby mill operation. Jackson gets to Harlan's wife who is pregnant and dumps her bleeding and dying on New Hope's doorstep. Harlan goes with his daughter who is in serious condition while Laramie goes with the guys to get the witnesses she has stashed. Jackson gets there as well and attacks. I like how Laramie gets her revenge on Jackson and perhaps Xavier was too nice to put him out of his pain. Laramie gets her man in Xavier and Harmony gets cochlear implants so she can hear. Xavier finally puts his past to rest with the help of Laramie. I like how Laramie phrases her help for him and how it was proven true. I would highly recommend this book.
Woohoo another amazing Fierce Protectors read, all former SEALs that are finding love in unlikely places. protecting the innocent and abused women and children is just what they do. Dr Xavier Thorne, also a former Seal who is now the head physician at New Hope tho haunted be his past. One person seems to have broken through his lonely persona an armour he wore well until Laramie Caine arrived at the hospital close to death. Who did this to her? Xavier intends to find out in fave the whole team is on it. Surprising, shocking events come to light ( I won’t spoil with all the details ) The plot had me hooked from the first page to the very last. I loved the progression throughout, but it’s more than that it was a truly inspiring story that brought domestic abuse up in an honest way amongst other great topics regarding the military An amazing 5* addition to an inspiring 5* series.
This book will give you all the feels. Laramie is the younger sister of Lucas, hero of the previous book. She's brought into New Hope as a Jane Doe only to discover her true identity and that she's in Wit Sec. Xavier walked away from the SEALs after losing his family which left him a shell of a man. He's now the chief doctor for New Hope. Laramie is more than she appears and the secret she's keeping is explosive and her ex goes to unspeakable lengths to get to her. Before the final confrontation, Xavier has to battle his inner demons and Laramie learns how much he cares even if he doesn't say it. Laramie's training with the guys also makes her a bit of a badass in her own right. All the men of Fierce as well as Tex, Wolf and Abe also appear in this book.
