Good place to start.

Although I bought this book recently, I was surprised that it talks about old camera and barely touches on digital ones. Nevertheless I found the book very useful and most of the information still applies to state of the art DSLRs.

It's a little dated but the basic information is very useful. Definitely keep it around for a reference.
