The first biography ever written about Boston Red Sox legend Johnny Pesky chronicles his nearly eight decades in the game, from his tenure as a "clubhouse kid" through his career as a major league shortstop to his roles as coach and talent scout.
It was pretty good. it goes from when he was a kid to when he retired. It is a great book for those who like reading books that go through people's lives and learning their personal expieriences. It goes from when his family moved from Eastern Europe to while he was growing up in a small town in Oregon, to his early baseball career as a batboy, to when he was playing in the major leagues for the Boston Red Sox. I have written a small script from one of the scenes from the book from when Johnny was a young boy in the church choir.
He really is the true Mr. Red Sox. I've got this one personally autographed my Mr. Pesky himself as well as Teammates. Had it not been for his service to his country in time of war, he certainly would have been a shoe in for the Baseball Hall of Fame. This guy could hit and was consistently on base. But the reader learns this; for as good of a ballplayer he was, he still continues to be a far greater person.
Legendary Red Sox employee (player, coach, manager, announcer, etc.) deserves his own book, right? "Good guy" Johnny Pesky recalls his life in baseball (He signed it for me, too).
