I so wanted to be Ava in Just Desserts. I am not kidding you – if I wanted to be any character in a book I have read this summer, besides a kick-ass heroine, it was Ava in this book, with Liam. Oh, I wouldn’t have been as hard to get; but I would have definitely been every minute of this young, smart, beautiful hot Italian co-main character. Tawdra Kandle really wrote her so well that I could envision her role being played out on the big screen. I thought of her ala The Carrie Diaries, but that wasn’t really sufficient. That only happened because of Liam – lythe, college track star, confused parental unit, playboy past. But he is oh so much more than that FOR Ava.
There’s a great juxtaposition here that makes every person who is a romantic swoon. There is that key element in a great romance that makes the people in it their very best person only for each other. They may have been the worst person in the world with every other person they ever dated, but this person – their true soul mate – makes them want to move the earth, the moon, and the stars, just to be their best – for them alone. Come on in, Frank Sinatra. Sing it, man!
There’s another element to this love story that makes it a more than typical as well. The usual jealousy among friends works out in a great new twist. I won’t tell you what it is, but it was fresh and appreciated. Everything doesn’t have to end in the same old pattern, and Kandle is not a cookie cutter writer. I like that.
I guess here is where I make mention of the book prior to Just Desserts, Best Served Cold, because Liam and Ava are not new to Kandle readers. All I will say about it is that Kandle redeemed a character who seemed unsolvable and made him hot as fire.
This is good writing, good storytelling and good hot relations all wrapped up under an awesome cover! It does not disappoint. Pinky promise.
I received this book free of charge. The review is my own opinion, 100%.
