A supervillain from the city of Grayville has made a big mistake: he stole from one of my companies. Now he is on my radar, and it's only a matter of time before I find him, and of course, murder him.
Ironically, the only thing preventing me from bringing the unknown douchebag to final justice is Grayville’s famous law-abiding superhero: The Shadow Knight.
But even a hero as accomplished as the Shadow Knight can’t stop me and my team from ending the super villain threat.
And if Shadow Knight won’t accept that, he might have to die as well.
I want to cry because of how conflicted I feel. I want to love this, but I keep feeling so sorry for Norma, I can't seem to really fall in love with the MC and what's her face because of it. I love the series but I love Norma more and I resent that. I can't support the seperate interactions of the MC with his girlfriend. I thought something would change because at one point he made a comment to himself about Norma that seemed to indicate there might be a change but, nothing! I'm a biatch. I'm giving an average rating to an above average read because of personal bias.
I enjoy this book its interesting and simple. My issue tho is the relationship between dynamo and Nelson. 🙄 poor norma. If she could at least have her own love interest I'd be fine. *****2nd read oh look at innocent me
I am not sure. Have you ever read a book and at the end you wonder did I like it or not? This was this book for me. There was so much I hated and yet so much I loved. Norma made the book and I loved her but do I want to continue to read a series in which she is hurt so much? I am not sure.
Another great story by Logan Jacobs. I'm loving this series the more I read it. Plus the character development, world building are great, but the heroes and Villains are the icing on the cake. Am going to enjoy seeing how they deal with the next supervillain. It was a nice touch having the final chapter from his perspective.
I have to give this book credit for not indulging in the usual harem second book storyline which is to increase the harems quick as possible and double down on the adult situations. By refraining from that, dynamo and Norma have had more chance to flesh themselves out as characters and I am much more invested in the story as a result.
The flipside of that is that I can't help but feel sorry for Norma who is quickly becoming my favourite character. Her Optimism and almost childlike innocence combined with an ability that promises to be more than it seems on the surface makes her a fascinating character and it's hard to see her not get what she wants. It's sad that she's been tortured with Dynamo and the main character's relationship.
Also while we're on the subject of Norma, I love the creative thinking that has gone into her powers. What seemed mundane and almost a joke when we were first introduced to it, is quickly turning into something genuinely exciting and original. I am happy to see that as it helps elevate this novel into something more than easy reading pulp fiction.
However, all that being said, something that I can't quite put my finger on is keeping me from giving this five stars. There's nothing obviously wrong with it, but it just has a feeling of easy reading that doesn't quite excel to brilliance. I don't want that to sound negative because this series doesn't deserve that, but I just can't bring myself to give it a final star yet.
All in all, I finish this book more invested in the series than I was at the end of the first book and more excited to read the next book than I expected, so it's an easy four-star outing for this one with potential to be a five in the future novels.
In this second part of the Evil Genius series the team visits Garyville, fights some crime there and tangles with a superhero named the Shadow Knight (definitely based on Batman). This series is different from its competition (yes, there are many more haremlit / slice of life etc. superhero books out there). First of all, when starting to listen, it struck me how prosaic the writing is, super-direct and apparently without any literary aspirations. Initially that directness was a bit off-putting, but I quickly got into the story, which is very focused on action and witty dialog, and by the end of it I realized that I was ok with it, it's just different. It's also very casual, definitely slice of life (although giving insides into the daily life of a supergenius and his unique entourage, with the occasional hot sex scene, perhaps doesn't qualify as your usual slice of life). I think the strong suite of this series is in particular the inventive way in which tropes are averted, subverted or otherwise toyed with. Superheroes are jerks, bimbos turn out to be pretty smart, supervillains have interesting backstories (but still cackle like a maniac). In any case - nothing too serious but I enjoyed it.
In Evil Genius 2, Miles is dealing with a stolen shipment of medical nanobots. These end up in Grayville, a Gotham-like city. Grayville comes complete with its own gruff superhero the Shadow Knight. I'm sure you can draw the parallels. Miles and team work through the clues, yachting with a local playboy billionaire , take in the Opera, all leading to a climatic showdown. The epilogue really states that you need to be careful what you wish for.
I like that Miles is like an amoral Tony Stark who never had the trauma in a cave overseas. I find myself interested in his assistant's powers with every book. Norma is average at everything. Everything. From cooking to juggling to brain surgery. She can just do anything with average competence. I look forward to her character growth in future books.
This series is a very guilty pleasure for me. Well written ruthless “superhero “ fiction with a main character who is much more Punisher or The Authority than the Iron Man he resembles. I know the harem elements and sex scenes are a lot of the series appeal to many readers, and I can’t fault the very successful author for writing for his audience. Me, I’m here for Norma. She has one of the most interesting powers I’ve run across in a lifetime as a comics fan and I really want to see what happens to her.
The relationship between the MC and his girls just keeps getting better. Norma and Aileen's development is also interesting.
Shadow Knight was somewhat interesting, especially for a Batman expy.
While I will admit that the book lost interest during the middle of the book, it picked up again just before the final battle. And the tease of what Maniac is capable of, caught my attention.
Book 1 was good and book 2 was even better. I like that the MC is a few different heroes wrapped into one character that doesn't follow the normal super hero code. If you're evil you get put down, if your good and get in his way....you're put down. Love this MC and can't wait to see where the author goes with him.
Not bad, really good villains, good guys that are pathetic, and a real team to do up the the bad guys right. I love the "average" girl. Not all of us are tall, dark and handsome, not all women are the female equivalent. Chewing sardines, waiting with bated breath for book three.
Or a little of both. A billionaire who doesn’t know exactly what he wants. Two women who have super powers and an artificial intelligence devoted to her creator. This is almost a cartoon world of super heroes and super villains where the normals are at the mercy of both. A good read.
With the main characters introduced and some of their back stories involved, it is shaping up pretty nicely. Love the team dynamic and can't wait to see the addition of more characters as variables. And I have a feeling Norma will be an absolutely amazing character
This book is even better than the first, if the author keeps going like this is an see this series becoming a fast favirute. This series has some great potential. Can't wait for the next book.
This picked up right where the other left off and kept on rolling. We got to see the characters develop into people trying to do what's right in maybe a wrong way.😁 Can't wait for the next book.
I have told many of my friends and family about this book because of the brilliance and creativity shown by the main character. Each book makes me love his crew even more. Thank you so much for this book.
Maniac is waiting for Miles and team, don't you want to know if he can defeat him, if Norma learns to use her powers to their fullest. C'mon and get those reviews in folks
This series is really growing into something epic. You get a lot of great mods to existing superhero\villain tropes, while still creating a unique world and landscape for the awesome characters!
What if Tony stark was more like the punisher? That is basically what you have. Then it pokes at the catch and release trope common to most super hero comics like oh Batman and joker for example....
A very interesting story as it unfolds, my favorite, very subtle and small aspect is the comparing and philosophical internal dialogue between a narcissist and the mirror image who is not. You figure you who wins your vote.
I enjoyed this book a lot I enjoyed the new environment that you used. I look forward to seeing the next book you set up in the last chapter thanks for your hard work
This series doesn't disappoint and is a fast read. U recommend picking up other series written by Logan jacobs as well. Great author that will not disappoint you.
Really liked this book. Could use some descriptions of the hights of the people but thats all i think could be added great book to read. I cant wait for the next one.
i thought I'll give this 1 or 2 but It got salvaged a little... however it's still filled with issues... I'm not sure if I'll pick up the third in the series.
