Metaphysics of Astrology: Why Astrology Works

Rate this book
Learn the basic principles of astrology without having to learn the theory beforehand. In order to understand the fundamental principles of astrological influences, why they exist and how they affect us, you must become familiar with the nature of the one who is affected, your own essence. It is all connected. Two things are in you and the universe. If you delve into one with the utmost care, you will automatically understand the other because, in their foundation, they are the same. Astronomy is the science of how the universe works. Astrology is the science of how the holographic universe affects us. It broadens our horizons because it provides a holistic approach to life. Astrology shows us all the details of the way in which our transcendental soul is trapped in the body and events of our life, the ways in which we have been obstructed from attaining self-knowledge. That will make us understand how to set ourselves free. The knot can be untied by learning the way in which it was tied. We do not have to know all the details. It is enough to be acquainted with the basic principles of how astrology works to be able to know the basic principles of liberation and self-knowledge. They are presented before you in a summarized version. Get it now.

"The only freedom man has is to know himself. Everything else is his slavery and suffering."
This line is the cornerstone of this book by Ivan Antic. This book come to me as a revelation and guided me towards the Sankhya philosophy. He borrows concept from Quantum Physics to prove to us the veracity of Astrology.
"The very presence of an observer would cause the quantum field to act as the particle, while without the observer in sight, it acts as the wave. It appears that particle, or nature, knows it should assume the three-dimensional form only in front of the observer."
On Time & Space:
"Universe exists with no beginning and no end in imaginary time, in an eternal present, which is sphere-like: it exists despite not having a beginning or an end.
"The concept of linear creation, from the beginning to the end, is a projection of a conditioned mind and all the calculations for the survival of ego"
It came as a revelation to me that the Einstein's famous equation of E=MC^2 was already known to Indian seers. He mentioned that in one of the oldest Prakrit texts, Uttaradhyayana-sutram, it is suggested that "time only exists in what we call specific space", and the classical commentaries explain that time exists only "on the continents where people live and the oceans belonging to those continents". Antic further mentions :
Whereas in Tattvarthadhigama-sutram it is quoted that "celestial bodies generate time through their motion". In the commentaries it is further emphasized that time is also substance and it is proved by the fact that both time and substance have identical characteristics: initiation, continuity and cessation. Finally, it is stated that the function of time is to maintain the substances in continuity, in modifications, movements and their respective occurrences.
There are many more narratives in the book revealing the scientific basis of Astrology.
The final takeaway for me is :"We are subjugated by our destiny until the point we become capable of receiving the self-knowledge of our transcendental soul." (a reiteration of Sankhya philosophy).
That is the utilitarian aspect of Astrology for a spiritual seeker.

The book's English is odd. I was left wondering if the translator was a native English speaker.

The idea is put forward that Astrology is not meant to be a means of foretelling the future but rather a showing of the factors which underlie the Karmic influences in one's life.

The view set forth is very akin to the philosophy set forth in 'Coming Back' a prior 2022 read. We are all sparks of divinity enclosed in the material world and that human life is the opportunity to return to the Absolute. This being achieved by our grasping the truth of our being an eternal spark from the Absolute which is experiencing material existence.

Astrology is seen as involved with all dimensions of reality not just the material universe. This means that it cannot be falsified by Science.

On the whole a difficult and unrewarding read.

The teachings of Astrology

An absolutely fascinating book that clearly communicates the study of astrology and why it works.
I was surprised that despite my previous familiarity with astrology, this book has elevated my understanding and allowed me to properly grasp and deepen my knowledge.
It is a practical, explanatory guide that makes the perfect reference book.

Okay I really liked this book BUT I gave it 3 stars because I feel like it did not talk about science in the context of backing up astrology as much i thought it would. I finished this book in a few days because I did like it so much but I felt like 80% of the time the book was talking about enlightenment, which was great but they did not relate it back to science. I wish it would have expanded on how the theory of relativity and the holographic theory tie into astrology. But yeah great book I learned a lot and it did provoke me to think deeper but just not giving what it needs to give in my opinion.

3.5 Stars I don't enjoy the author's judgey tone at times because part of the point is to not be judgey, but there I go judging :D I read this while I'm reading Jung's The Red Book, which dovetails quite nicely. Prepare for some quantam wavey fun of the 4 dimensional variety, holograph style. It's a serious matter.

2.5 stars rounded up. This book is quite misleading; it does not focus that much on astrology but rather spirituality in general and topics like destiny and transcendence. While I agree with most of the viewpoints explored, I definitely expected proving astrology through science/mathematics and for this being a mostly objective book. It is less than 100 pages but quite dense with the author’s opinions on spirituality.

Beyond the Basics

This book starts beyond the basics, which I liked. It does a decent job at explaining the why and how astrology works but I think it may be a bit too much for some to understand. I also would have liked the different types of astrology included and the true sidereal especially.

This book has some good information in it but is hard to read due to the writing style. It seems like the author is not a native English speaker because the sentences are worded in a way that makes the information harder to understand than it needs to be. It seemed to get better as the book goes on, but I frequently found myself re-reading sentences because of the strange the word order and missing punctuation. Overall a worthwhile book, but it doesn’t flow well and would be better served by a good editor.

This is a refreshing approach to Astrology in that it sets out to explain the principles of why astrology works, and thus how it is true; rather than just repeating the mechanics of how to read astrological predictions and outcomes.

It was not an easy book to read. The language was obscure in places, so that it was unclear what was actually being claimed. For example, we heard that ‘a completed personality is the personification of the whole’ and that a new born baby ‘takes the energy of the entire cosmos into its lungs’ (2%). But what do claims like that mean?

One of the central claims of the book is that Astrology is a Science because ‘everything in astrology is based on facts, such as the exact position of the planets,… there is not a single element of belief or superstition in astrology’ (30%).

If astrology is a science then I would have expected to see some evidence to (scientifically) prove the claims in the book. It is relatively easy to take some (blind) details of people’s births and draw up natal charts, and then compare them to people’s lives for an accuracy check. But when people do that, the charts generally turn out to be no more accurate than random chance.

If the author thinks that his approach is more scientific then the onus is on him to produce the Scientific evidence. In doing so, he might also be eligible to claim the James Randi Educational Foundation $1m prize. In the absence of evidence it is worth bearing in mind that one of the characteristics of Pseudo Science is claims to be a science whilst producing no evidence.

Where the book did appeal to specific scientific factors, problems arose. We heard for example that: ‘it has recently been discovered that the very presence of the observer determines the microworld’s response, whether it will act as a particle or a wave” (24%). The problem with that claim is what counts as an observer? Are we talking about conscious (human) observers? Or is any other object that can interact, actually an observer? If the latter then there is no meaningful sense in which anything is ever unobserved, and so observation cannot be a triggering event.

Another problem in the book was that sections did not seem to cohere well. For example, we heard initially that free will is an ‘illusion’ (12%) and that human character and personality is ‘determined’ (54%). But by the end of the book we are being told that ‘nobody is guilty for what they have done, because these are all the machinations of nature. Humans can only be held responsible for the good they failed to do… or for not having done the only thing they are supposed to do.’ (84%). If we can do, or not do things, then that must mean that we do in fact have some version of free will, so how can it be an illusion?

An interesting issue which cropped up in the book was a reference to Manichean literature (21%). Manicheanism was popular in the third and fourth century and Augustine of Hippo was famously an adherent for a while. But he abandoned the Manichean world view and launched a series of arguments against it. One of his arguments appealed to twins. If astrology determines lives, then how can there be twins which have enormously different lives? It’s a good question and it remains a good question, which needs answering if the book is to make its case.

Altogether, I didn’t find this book clear or convincing. And I didn’t appreciate its polemical negativity about other people’s religious views, describing belief in God as ‘ignorant lies’ (15%). Not a book to be recommended.

Excellent!

The author makes clear the relationship between the natal chart of one's birth to the soul, both the personal and the divine Soul of the world. The natal chart describes the nature of one's entry point into this lifetime, emphasizing the struggles that offer one the opportunity for increasing freedom from identification with the mundane level of bodily existence. These struggles provide the pain necessary to increase awareness and consciousness of the bigger picture of life and the healing that leads to acceptance and love for oneself and others as fellow travelers awakening to the wholeness that we have always an integral part of.

This book was very interesting and expanded my existing knowledge and interest of astrology.
I admire how the author ties all points together to give some impactful points on existence, souls, zodiac signs and how they link to the cycle of space and seasons on earth.
However, I think there are some loopholes within some statements and some unexplainable points that have no evidence against them and are just backed up by the belief of the author.
Also, the English in this wasn't so understandable at times (if you have read the book you will understand)
But, overall, really enticing book that opens your mind some more, really enjoy this topic!!!

This book is only around 100 pages, but the theories inside explaining metaphysics astrology are pretty mind blowing.

A lot of the astrological view points are quite difficult to understand and this book might give some of more focused answers. I'm still not sure if astrology really works, but someone who is interested in the topic of astrology or is sceptical about it, this book definitely gives quite interesting and different kind of viewpoint of the whole subject. Definitely something to chew on.

Very understandable

This is a great book. The book makes perfect since. It explains astrology in a practical scientific way, and now I can see it as a real science with observable results.

It was mediocre. I opened this hoping for a physics perspective and anticipated in seeing at least some math. Disappointed that there was a hokey religious tone throughout. When I was able to put that aside, the bits of science were fascinating, but I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone.

Luckily i wasn't put off by the difficulty reading this, not the content itself, but the need for an editor/translator/proofreader, as there was some good content in there.

Begun in Jan 2023 - EUREKA - I finally got it! And wow, in the end (Dec 24) I wanted to underline almost everything. This is such a remarkable work of art, so many different viewpoints not only on astrology, but on consciousness and enlightenment itself. Astrology IS an irreplacable tool for self-awareness and the author excells in pointing out why in a very easy and concise manner. I already know a lot of what Antic explains, but he always managed to put a new angle on it, to make it sink in even deeper or simply making it *really* click.

This book contains so many nuggets of wisdom, so much uplifting advise, I'd love to re-read it. I guess one could really become enlightend by reading this book alone. Or maybe it just found me at the right point in time (which - yeah - it certainly did, as always ever does).

A different format of explaining the astrology. I can relate to this book so many details and better explained of the astrology. The astrology is an interpretation are descriptions of how a person may behave rather than what he or she might do. We do get bombarded with the houses, zodiac, etc. When we can understand the difference between the houses, zodiac, horoscope, we will have a better understanding of this book.

It appears there are two books maybe with different published years with different covers, same titles.
