Rate this book

It’s the end of the world and Josiah’s knocking on Heaven’s door…

Without the protection of his guardian angel, Josiah’s body is deteriorating. Remiel is on the cusp of victory in Hell, and Heaven is divided. The irreverent half-angel’s only hope of saving himself and all of humanity rests in finding God before it’s too late.

But since when has he ever given a damn about saving the world?

No, this is personal, and Josiah will stop at nothing to find God, even if it means going alone. He’ll crisscross the globe and leave no stone unturned in his search. Nowhere is safe, no one too sacred to interrogate. Not even the dead.

Yet the closer he gets, the faster his body fails.

Can Josiah Quinn pull off one more miracle and survive just long enough to give Heaven hell one last time?

Don’t miss this thrilling conclusion to the Hellbent Halo series.

Well knock me down with an angel feather what a thrilling conclusion to the series. I was literally on the edge of my seat the entire time I was reading this. After being reduced to a puddle of goo from the last book I was fully expecting to have to nurse my heart again and I wasn't wrong.

Even though Josiah's body is failing him, his mouth sure isn't and the snark I love so much is pretty much in full force, especially when it comes to Micheal. Where as his relationship with Khaleda was a enemy to friend mutual respect and even a kind of love, there is nothing but a prickly contempt when he talks to the archangel and to me it was pure gold. Even to the end of the story Josiah was true to himself and I loved him for it.

And oh god Stefan, my nail biting continued as I watched him struggle with becoming a changed man, trying desperately to find Josiah before it was too late. Even after Josiah told him not to look for him, he was still determined to get back to the man he loved. Yeah my heart was in bits over this I can tell you.

And I absolutely loved Khaleda's arc, my little succubus Queen to be, she was more than just attitude and fury, it was the very fact that she didn't want to rule hell but knew she was the best person for the job that made her a compelling character who I was behind from the beginning.

So yes after reading all the books in the series I can say I enjoyed it immensely, the high stakes, losses and relationships formed throughout made this one hell of a read for me. And even though my tattered heart needs some time to heal, I know I will dip my toes back into Josiah's world from time to time to shatter myself all over again.

Did I get my happy ever after I hear you ask. Well let's just say I'm smiling through my tears..

Hell to Pay, Hellbent Halo book 5
By E.A. Copen
Wow, that is not quite the ending I imagined. What a wild ride! But, if you are religious, some things and the story line could be disturbing.
After losing his protections and previous healings in the last book, Josiah is dying. Forced to make an alliance with Michael, he is looking for God. Stepan, accompanied by Lazurus, is looking for Josiah. Khaleda is trapped in Hell and Remiel is winning the battles. It’s not looking good.
There is a lot of action in this book, again somewhat bloody. There is also suspense, surprises and everything you could imagine.
For a series that I wasn’t sure of, this has certainly become a favourite. It can be a little dark in spots but there are bits of humour to lighten everything up.
But no matter how it goes, Josiah is still an ass, a well meaning one but still not one of the most likeable characters. Actually, a lot of the characters are not ones that you fall in love with. Enjoyable but not ones you necessarily want to be friends with.
I am really glad I read this.

A brilliant final book in the wonderful Hellbent Halo series! Another winner as we follow Josiah as he battles through heinous trials, tribulations & trade offs searching for the one person & thing that can finally end his, Stefan, Khaled's problems &; as an added bonus, save the World from the dispicable monster, Remiel. Can our tortured, anti-hero manage to succeed on this final quest before his rapidly failing body finally gives up the ghost? Will Stefan ever meet up with Josiah again? Will Khaleda succeed in being Hell's new Queen? What happens to Reggie? Will Remiel (aka not-so-daddy-dearest) ever be vanquished? Recommend you read this & all the other fantastic books in this noir, magical, many-faceted & exciting series to find out the nail-biting result in this action-packed finale!

This was a good book to read - there were parts where the characters were at low points, so I can't call all of it 'fun', - but I enjoyed reading the book and seeing story lines wrap up. The dialogue, descriptions, and plot were well-planned and moved the book along.

As the 5th book in the series, and as a book placed in the greater 'Laz-verse' I strongly suggest reading previous books first so you don't have a 'huh' feeling at certain parts.

I enjoyed reading this and look forward to reading more by Author Copen.

I was given an ARC of this book and have chosen to review it.

Hell To Pay is Book 5 and final of the Hellbent Halo series by E.A. Copen. For this last in series, it takes hold of you and does not let go until the end. It answers many questions and ties up the story nicely. Again Josiah is doing the right thing even as he denies it. This is a fast paced thrill ride adventure with lots of twists/turns and surprises that is superbly well written with fantastic characters. This is a phenomenal book and series which I love and highly recommend. Received an ARC and this is my voluntary and honest review.

I liked this book...and then I loved it. I can't say the reasons I fell in love with it, because spoilers, major spoilers. I would love to say what I loved most, but...you'll just have to read to find out. (And if you've read the rest of the series to this point - keep reading. If you haven't read any of the previous, well, this won't make any sense, so go ahead & read the others first, knowing that whatever darkness there is...it'll be worth it.)

Gritty Neo-noir

This is different to what I would usually read, and is a dark story. It is interesting, though reading from book one is recommended.

Have you read this series?

I HIGHLY recommended it. It is well written (even if the author doesn’t understand prone vs supine) I’ve never read a series where the characters were not only really real but where being gay was truely a side note to he story. usually I don’t like books that take on religion like this but, this was different, and Poignant and....maybe it’s just hitting right because of the crisis we are in but if you want a good read that is heartbreaking and affirming at the same time, this one is it.
