Just what I wanted to know about Kanban!

My job involves project management and I picked this book up hoping it might give me an idea or two for improving our processes. Exactly as described, the book is a nice bridge between a one-page overview and a 500 page textbook. I felt like I got exactly enough info to know whether Kanban might work for my purposes, and although I won’t be implementing it, I have another tool in my pocket for the future.

Strengths? The book is well organized and the author clearly has experience in laying out concepts in an accessible and academic style. The questions that popped into my head while reading were well anticipated and immediately addressed in almost all cases. The case studies at the end were also invaluable.

I particularly appreciated the bolded keywords, making it easy to follow the key points. The quotes from well-known business thinkers also really increased the interest for me.

Weaknesses? There were some minor hiccoughs with awkward sentences, and the author’s personal anecdotes were sometimes only loosely related. Nothing that took away from the effectiveness of the material. It also helps if you are at least somewhat familiar with LEAN, Agile, and just-in-time principles.

Overall, highly recommended reference if your job or hobby involves project management.

I was looking for a book that can tell me more about KanBan and its difference with SCRUM and I found this free-to-read book for Kindle Unlimited members so I downloaded it to give it a try.

Having known AGILE, LEAN and Kaizen, I naturally have many questions that I needed to find the answers to and soon as I open the book it was as though Aditi read my mind and provided the answers to all my questions in a well structured flow and with clarity. Her book encompasses the values of LEAN and AGILE in that there was no wastage of information, no repetition and everything was straight to the point.

I found it easy to read, easy to understand and more importantly concise. I spend no more than 2 hours to finish the entire book with all my questions answered.

A well deserved 5 stars.

Not rating this because I'm not the target audience and I mostly skimmed it for relevant bits. Kanban was mentioned in Burkeman's Four Thousand Weeks so I thought I'd see if I could find a book specifically on it.

Honestly? Unless you're looking at it for corporate purposes (which I cannot help with because I loathe even the idea of a corporate job), just do a search for 'personal kanban board'. The books available are all business-focused and there's honestly not enough to the system to warrant a book about adapting it for personal use. Whatever blog post you find has a 99% chance of having all the information you need to create a personal kanban board. Read 3 and you'll get it all.

Agile and Kanban

Very useful book to introduce Agile teams to the usage of a Kanban board. As a Scrum Master I was exploring how to guide a Data & Analytics Team that shifted away from a Scrum Board and Sprints to a form of Kanban. One chapter discuses ScrumBan a combination of Scrum and Kanban practices. I found this a helpful exploration for my team. Lastly there are good examples of how to lay out the Kanban boards for different types of teams.

Quick read - well worth the time

Excellent, brief overview. Many visuals. I read it in less than an hour. I’ve been using the Kanban approach myself, for writing, but am now tasked to explain it to others and so needed a more formal background. Text had many other resources listed for further study.

This handbook covers all of the aspects you would need to start working with Kanban in your organization. Even for experienced practitioners it is a nice and simple reminder of terminology, ceremonies, metrics, etc. It is written in such way that particular parts can be read in isolation thus allowing it to be used as an actual handbook. The potential lack of clarity and "how this actually works?" moments are tackled in the last part of the book with number of real life cases presented, which is a really nice addition. This book is easy to read, with no long and tangled parts that would cause confusion.
