When Maria V. Snyder was younger, she aspired to be a storm chaser in the American Midwest so she attended Pennsylvania State University and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology. Much to her chagrin, forecasting the weather wasn’t in her skill set so she spent a number of years as an environmental meteorologist, which is not exciting...at all. Bored at work and needing a creative outlet, she started writing fantasy and science fiction stories. Over twenty four novels and two short story collections later, Maria’s learned a thing or three about writing. She’s been on the New York Times bestseller list, won a dozen awards, and has earned her Masters of Arts degree in Writing from Seton Hill University, where she is now a faculty member.
Her favorite color is red. She loves dogs, but is allergic, instead she has a big black tom cat named…Kitty (apparently naming cats isn’t in her skill set either). Maria also has a husband and two children who are an inspiration for her writing when they aren't being a distraction. Note: She mentions her cat before her family.
When she's not writing she's either playing pickleball, traveling, or taking pictures. Being a writer, though is a ton of fun. Where else can you take fencing lessons, learn how to ride a horse, study marital arts, learn how to pick a lock, take glass blowing classes and attend Astronomy Camp and call it research? Maria will be the first one to tell you it's not working as a meteorologist.

AWWWWW I loved this!!! I missed Yelena and Valek and Janco and Ari!!! And of course, baby Liana!!! Being in Janco's POV while "babyguarding" made it even more comedic. Seeing my babies all grown up with babies of their own? I cry :((((
I need more books in this world with THESE characters and I don't care what I have to do to get it! Harrumph!
This short story takes place after the events of the Soulfinders (spin-off trilogy to the Study series).
"And your young boss is so new, she's all shiny." If they're after Onora, they were in for a big surprise. "That's because she carries an abundance of knives."
This was fun cute story following Janco babyguarding little Liana and getting into trouble as per ususal. We get to see Yelena and Valek for a bit, as well as Onora.
Diaper Study is a very short, but funny story about Janco being tasked with babyguarding Yelena and Valek's daughter. It is really hsort, so I don't have muvh to say about it, but it is cute and made me smile.
It only took me about two months to do it.. but guys.. I finish the chronicles of ixia! I feel like I need a drink for this right now but I will settle for some pizza. For now.
In Diaper Study, you will get a baby adventure. Starting Janco and the lovely Liana. If at this point, you are clearly wondering why Janco is with Yelena and Valek's baby girl.. well sit down and pop some corn people. He's babysitting.. but it's basically a test to see how well he does. Which, knowing Janco.. he messes up. Big time.
Honestly, I really enjoyed this novella. It was fun and very quick to fly through. Now if I could just get Ari's babysitting test.. I think my life would be complete.
True to form, Diaper Study was a terrible story to wrap up the terrible series that is The Chronicles of Ixia. But it's done and I couldn't be happier never to read one of these stories again.
Last book in the series and the series was such a good time!
I really grew attached to all the characters and was always craving for more. Binge read the series! And I could read 5 more books in the series exploring the next gen!
Already miss the characters.
The story was a perfect combination of drama, adventure, quests, mysteries and plot twists. High stakes kept me flipping through the books and ending the series in no time!
Very underhyped books and series
If you love Throne of glass series, instead of rereading the same books maybe give this series a try?
Such a cute little novella! Poor Janco is always getting himself into trouble and it being a prank in this was fun. I liked that they called it "babyguarding" and Onora pulling one over on him. 😅

Poison Study is one of my favorite books, I've read it so many times.
I hadn't ever finished the whole series, and had never read the short stories, so I decided to revisit Ixia.
It took me FOREVER to get through. The final three books were....forgive me for saying this....trash. I kept going because of my love for Maria Snyder and Poison Study but I will never read any book in this series again except for PS and maybe books 2 and 3. I don't even think I'll read Opal's books again.
I thought this final story was just plain stupid. I hated that whole "test."
Always been a fan of Valek and Yalena and having read a recent book that reminded me of Poison Study, I noticed I’d not read this short story yet.
Features ‘Uncle’ Janco babysitting Laina, Valek and Yalena’s daughter. Was a nice little journey back into their world. Despite being short, it’s still full of action which was a trademark of the series!
And I wonder, is Janco or Ari the himbo? This was a short, funny read. Any moment inside Janco’s head is hilarious. Good luck to Onora keeping him on track in Ixia (secretly hoping they get together, too.)
I fell so out of love with this universe and its characters that I was unable to enjoy this. And I can't forget about the fact they gave lil Liana the most fucked up name ever, so to me this is a lose-lose.
For anyone new or those who forgot: Liana's parents are Yelena (first name) Liana (family name) Zaltana (clan name) and Valek (first name) Icefaren (last name). And somehow everyone forgot how Yelena's name worked because they named their daughter Liana Zaltana Icefaren. So three last names, basically. Ouch.
Anyway, this was really stupid and it wasn't so much "Janco babysitting a baby" as "Janco losing sight of the baby and doing other shit". Summarized in one word: disappointing.
This was... interesting. There were so good points about it, such as the humour (basically Janco's character), but it was also lacking quite a bit. I felt a little disappointed - I won't lie - because there wasn't as much Liana in it. She was only in this story for about half of it, and I was expecting it to focus on her (or really, on how the characters handle her). Ari was again missing from this story, with only a few brief mentions. I have found that Snyder definitely prefers Janco it seems in this series!
I just found this could have done with a bit more from characters other than Janco.
Gosh Liana Zaltana Icefaren is the cutest!! While Janco and Onora's dynamic was nice as it was I do wish we saw how they ended up, I was also hoping to see Opal's kids interact Liana oh and not to mention Commander Ambrose watching Liana(though tht might be a rarity and a real shocker lol) .
I loved the Uncle Janco and Liana's adventure, she's the one to show Janco a tough time like when she kept throwing her hat on the ground lmao and I loved this book's ending!

Even though this one spoils the previous book, I went ahead and read the short story. It is a cutesy thing about Janco babysitting Yelena and Valek's kid. Nothing surprising or spoilery about it because readers of the series would know by now about Yelena's pregnancy. You can find it on the author's website.

I can totally imagine Liana Zaltana Icefaren creating chaos every chance she gets and others not being mad at her since she is so adorable! Want to squish her chubby baby bunny cheeks! Really enjoyed Janco's perspective and I will continue shipping him with Onora. I wanted some closure on Yelena helping Commander Ambrose and sorting out his mother's soul, but I guess that ain't happening.
The Captive Babyguard's Quest Janco finds himself unexpectedly thrust into the role of guardian for the spirited Liana. What follows is a thrilling chase as Janco races against time to retrieve Liana from Onora before Yelena and Valek return, only to fall into the clutches of ruthless goons.
Meh. Nothing special about this one. I just enjoyed seeing Janco dealing with a baby. I was hoping this would be more Yelena and Valek and their baby. But yeah, this definitely felt like fanfic to me.
