As the co-founders of The Curvy Girls Club, where loving yourself is the only rule, can these friends practice what they preach?
Ellie is fresh back from her honeymoon and can’t wait to share her news with her best friends Katie and Jane. She's going to have a baby on Christmas day! To everyone’s surprise, mother-of-two, Jane, has news of her own… The women will be due a day apart, and Katie can’t wait to be an honorary aunt to the babies.
But as the months go on, everyone is finding it hard to keep their sense of humor, not to mention their self-esteem, in the face of swollen feet and pregnancy pants. Add a clingy mother-in-law, a career in cardiac arrest and a sex life that's making Mother Theresa look lusty, and soon the women's lives are as out of control as their bodies.
Michele writes books packed with heart and humor, best friends and girl power. She also writes cozy comedies under the pen-name Lilly Bartlett. Lilly’s books are full of warmth, romance, quirky characters and guaranteed happily-ever-afters.

It was so great to be back with Katie, Jane and Ellie. The book continues their stories and tells us what happened. Ellie is now happily married to Thomas, Katie is happy with Rob and Jane just loves being with her family. When one after the other announces that she is pregnant, is’s clear that they are really doing everything together, obviously this was not planned and can only happen in a book, but I didn’t care. Michele wrote it in such a sweet and funny way, that I loved this situation. Of course one pregnancy is more of a surprise than the other and especially for Katie it is a bit of a surprise.
It was funny following them around through their pregnancy, all three women had to deal with other things as well. Ellie didn’t have a moment with Thomas alone, because his mother Millicent always showed up. She was a bit of a pain in the a**, but really surprised me in the end. Jane is dealing with her family life and also her job. Her boss wants her to hide the pregnancy on TV, which is just not fair. And Katie, well she and Rob just moved in together and now she’s pregnant already?! A lot to take in… ;)
The three women are just awesome to follow around, I love their friendship and they still had their own story to tell. The writing is funny, fresh, bubbly and sparkly. A great and entertaining book with an awesome storyline, memorable characters and a “baby” inspired charm ;).
I liked this book a lot more than the first book. This time around Jane, Ellie, and Katie are pregnant, more or less at the same time, Katie had a week or so later if I understood the dates right. The body image presented was a lot more positive and the focus was more on the relationships in the women's lives from job body image to mother-in-law relationships. The book ended on a strong note and I'm a bit sad that there isn't a third book but I wouldn't have wanted the characters to be overused.
This was a bit disappointing after how fun The Curvy Girls Club was. I was expecting this to be a bit cheesy and stretch credibility - three friends all pregnant at exactly the same time! - but the main issue really is how rushed it all is. It’s novella-length, which means the story gallops along without much character development or time for real emotion.
Michele Gorman is one of the nicest people in the Twitter - sphere, and I love reading her tweets. And not only tweets, oh no, each time she releases a new book, I am probably one of the first in the virtual queue to read it. But I can't get rid of the feeling that THIS book, book that is going to sweep me off my feet, is still for Michele to write, and I can't wait for it. I can't help but thinking that the books she's written don't do Michele's talent justice, as for me she is incredibly talented writer, who has already found her own voice.
"The Curvy Girls Baby Club" is a continuation of "The Curvy Girls Club". It's a short novella, and the writing here reminds me strongly on sitcoms episodes - short chapters, like short episodes, jumping in time - as the story doesn't concentrate painstakingly on detailing every single day of the pregnancies, only leaps every few weeks. Which is a great thing, and makes the story much more quicker and the pace is just right.
Did I say pregnancies? Yes. Because we have few of them. And it was probably my problem. As much as I do believe in magic sometimes, and as much as I love to go with the flow of the stories, having all the children on the same day was a little too much for me. I'm sorry. Nevertheless, it was nice to catch up with the girls, especially as Pixie was not more in plain sight, and the three remaining friends: Ellie, Katie and Jane were teaming up really great, and I truly liked their friendship - it felt so honest and genuine, and nothing was forced between them. As much as Ellie's mother - in - law made my teeth screech I liked those scenes - they might have been a little clichéd, but they added some spice and pepper to this short story. And it was also nice to have those three different approaches to pregnancies, and how the characters all come to terms with this fact.
What also stayed the same, is Michele's writing style and her very warm and hooking way of telling the story. She has a very special way with the words and can create the characters' own world that you don't want to leave. So keep them coming, Michele, I am always waiting for a new book from you!

'The Curvy Girls Baby Club' is set not too long after where the 'The Curvy Girls Club' stopped. Ellie, Jane and Katie are still the best of friends who share everything with each other and support one another, through thick and thin. When Ellie comes back from her honeymoon she can't wait to tell her friends that she is pregnant. However, to all of their surprises, Jane has the same news to share with them and the two even share the same due date around Christmas. The Curvy Girls Club's focus suddenly switches to the trials and tribulations of being pregnant while also dealing with pushy mother-in-laws, career stress, and low self-esteem. Will the friends be able to get through it all, still sticking to their belief to always love yourself, no matter what?
'The Curvy Girls Baby Club' is a short novella (roughly 120 pages in print) and a really enjoyable quick read from author Michele Gorman. The story focuses on Ellie, Katie and Jane; 3 friends who helped start up the Curvy Girls Club (which you can read more about in the original novel to which this is the sequel). I loved being back with these characters, reading more about them and seeing what they were up to. The girls turn out to be pregnant at the same time, resulting in them going through the different stages of becoming a mother together. While the plotline is quite far-fetched, it did result in a lovely story so it didn't bother me and I decided to just see it as a big coincidence with a spoonful of luck!
Michele Gorman's writing style is really easy to get into and combined with short chapters this made for a very quick read. I definitely wouldn't have minded if this had been a full-length novel instead of a novella because I really enjoyed it. I do recommend reading the 'The Curvy Girls Club' before picking up this novella, just so you know what the characters have been through and how they got where they are at the start of the story. Overall, another wonderful read by Michele Gorman and an entertaining sequel to 'The Curvy Girls Club' which I thoroughly enjoyed!
Review: I loved catching up with Ellie, Katie and Jane again in this fabulous follow on novella which I read in just one sitting! Even though it has been a while since I read The Curvy Girls Club, I picked up with these ladies again as soon as I read the first page. I liked the idea behind the storyline, the three of them supporting each other, not just through losing weight or being happy in their own bodies but through pregnancy as well and the dynamic between them was just as strong as I remembered from the previous novel, and the message still very much the same-love yourself more!
I did miss founding member Pixie, who has moved away and so wasn't part of this story, but it was great to have Jane back as I really loved her story previously. She has similar struggles to deal with in this story, and she deals with them using the support of her husband and in the same kick-ass way that she did initially-I loved her. The other two ladies are facing relationship dramas that you might expect from new relationships and marriages and, for a novella, those storylines are just as much a focus as the babies themselves coming along, I thought this was really well managed in such. Short amount of pages!
I was surprised at the pregnancies happening all at once and the ladies being due all at the same time too but that's how it needed to work for the book to take place so I can suspend my disbelief for 120 pages or so and I really did enjoy reading this. There were some moments that were just perfect and made me go aww and some seriously funny lines as well. I don't think you'd have to have read The Curvy Girls Club to be able to enjoy this, you just need to know that that is how these ladies have the strong connection that they do. If you have read the previous novel, I think you'll really enjoy this one, as I did, and love the feeling of catching up with the ladies once again!
The Curvy Girls Baby Club follows on from the aptly named Curvy Girls Club, which I read, reviewed and loved last year. I was excited to read the novella sequel, and was happy to see Ellie, Jane and Katie return. I whizzed through the book, and enjoyed it, although not as much as the first.
To be honest, there was a little too much cliché in this book. The ladies all get pregnant, and all end up giving birth on the very same day... Sure, it made for a fun read, but was lacking some of the realism and depth of the first instalment.
That said, I loved that the girls brought their body positivity with them into this story. Being pregnant is actually a fear of mine - I desperately want kids one day, but have no real desire to be pregnant. I've already spent my entire adult life worrying about my figure, and pregnancy is guaranteed to bring those fears out in full force. So, I completely understood the struggle that these ladies faced.
Because the story was so short, I felt that their struggles weren't really explored. Yes, there were body issues raised, particularly with Jane, but there wasn't a realistic explanation as to how they were dealt with; one pep talk from hubby and some cheery compliment cards probably wouldn't cut it with a woman who'd been hospitalised a year earlier with an eating disorder.
I did like Ellie's struggles with her mother-in-law, and found Jane's struggle with her producers interesting - weight based discrimination is a real, and terrible thing. Katie didn't really make much of an appearance though, perhaps because she was the star of the last book? But her unexpected pregnancy would likely have caused the biggest issue, and could have been explored further.
Overall, I liked that this book maintained a focus on body positivity, but it definitely wasn't as uplifting or meaty as the first book. If Gorman writes a third instalment, I hope it's full-length and regains the spirit of the first!
Having only been a few days since I finished The Curvy Girls Club, I was waiting for midnight to come for this book to arrive on my kindle. I started it immediately and really enjoyed catching up with the girls again.
The main focus of this book are Ellie and Jane. After Katie and Pixie's stories were the main ones in the previous book, its unsurprising really that we get to know the other two girls a lot more in this book. Ellie, Jane and Katie have always had a very close friendship, doing everything together, so its really impressive that they all seem to fall pregnant around the same time.
This novella is basically set over the 40 weeks of pregnancy, and with Jane's story line again focusing on body confidence issues, the overall theme from the first book is still there.
I loved Ellie's texts to Jane, updating her on the size of their babies, comparing them to various foods. It gives an easy visual idea to the size of what is growing inside the ladies, especially for someone who hasn't had children herself.
I am not completely sure if this can be read as a standalone book, having only read the first so close to this, its hard to really distance myself enough to know if would work. However since both books are so good, I would if you are remotely tempted by them, to start on the original first.
By the end of this story, I was laughing with tears in my eyes. Such an emotional ending, to a brilliant novella, I just wish it was longer.
I really enjoyed reading the The Curvy Girls Baby Club, and would love to see something set perhaps 10 years in the future, to see how all the friendships are still holding up, and what the babies think of each other!
The Curvy Girls Baby Club is a follow up novella of Michele Gorman's latest book The Curvy Girls Club, which I enjoyed reading earlier this year. So it was lovely to catch up with Katie, Jane and Ellie, co-founders of the Club. When we ended the first book, the three of them were quite happy with new jobs, partners, houses... and completely in love but now they've got new responsibilities and difficulties to worry about and their lives are about to change, big time, with the upcoming babies.
The novella tells how these women deal with their pregnancies and the new complications in their lives: Jane's new job in front of the camera is making her worry about her appearance too much again and Ellie's mother in law is not exactly the loving and accepting type with the woman who stole her only child. Katie also has her own struggles but their support for each other and with Ellie's lovely idea to make cards for herself and her friends make their lives easier.
The story moves quite fast but smoothly and you find yourself laughing easily with these girls again. The main message of the first book about learning to love yourself is perfectly maintained in this story, thanks especially to Ellie's cards, which I found a fantastic idea.
If you enjoyed The Curvy Girls Club, which I'm sure you did, you can't miss this one. A packed short story that delivers what it promises and leaves you with a huge grin plastered on your face. What else can you ask for?
In The Curvy Girls Baby Club, best friends Ellie, Katie, and Jane are back with something special to share with each other: they are all pregnant!
Author Michele Gorman weaves a delightful sequel novella to The Curvy Girls Club that is filled with a feel good lighthearted storyline that follows the three best friends as they embark on a journey towards motherhood together. What could be better than to share the joys and trials and tribulations of sisterhood and pregnancies than with your best friends?!
This sweet little novella's storyline follows the three best friends' pregnancy journey towards motherhood. The reader will be captivated as they catch up with Ellie, Katie, and Jane, and how their strong bond of friendship continues as they provide support to each other. You can't help but love these three girls and cheer them on, there are lot of laughter, tears, and smiles throughout their journey. I loved that this novella continued the best friends' story as they embarked on the next phase of their lives, their story easily continues where The Curvy Girls Club left off, it flowed smoothly and left me with a warm fuzzy feeling and wanting more.
The Curvy Girls Baby Club is an enjoyable novella that embraces the strong bonds of friendship that will leave a smile on your face!
Disclaimer: I received a copy of the book from the author / publisher in exchange for my honest review and participation in the virtual book release week event hosted by the publisher, Notting Hill Press.
Katie, Ellie and Jane or co-founders of Curvy Girls Club are back with big news. Ellie is back from her honeymoon and she is a pregnant. She and her husband are happy but she couldn’t tell the news to her mother in law, because she drives her crazy and she is real monster in law. Jane with two kids we know that from Curvy Girls Club now expecting new baby on the way. Katie and her boyfriend are still together and surprisingly they have news too. If the fatness was problem in their lives before now they have more than one problem. The pregnancy is not easy: all body changes morning sickness and hormones are new things that they must deal with it.
I love to read about Ellie, Katie and Jane’s lives, especially how they continue with their lives. All of them were finding their happiness with their body, Katie was finding her love too, Jane was back to job she wants and Ellie was married. In previous book they try to deal with their bodies now they try to deal with their pregnancy with love and support and lots of humor. I love to read how their friendship helps them to get through pregnancy. I admire to their honesty, they share everything, every single thought, every little thing that they sense or experience with each other without hesitation and that helps them much. It’s short story about hundred pages, but I don’t find anything that miss in it.

I read The Curvy Girls Club last year and really enjoyed the introduction into the lives of Ellie, Kate and Jess. In this latest novella, we meet up with the girls again, but this time they have rather more on their minds than their Curvy Girls support group. With two out of the three friends expecting their first babies, Katie can't help but feel left out, until the fickle finger of fate intervenes.
As always, the story is really fun to read, whilst at the same time it covers some fairly serious topics, like what happens to couples when a baby starts to loom on the horizon, how clingy mother-in-laws can be more of a hindrance than a help, and of how pregnant women are viewed in the work place.
The story is warm and witty and filled with such a sense of joie de vivre that you can't help but be pulled into this charming story of impending motherhood. The characters are nicely portrayed without ever becoming caricatures and infuse such a sense of friendship , that yoiu end of wishing you had such a group of friends to rely on.
The novella is really easy to read in one sitting, it's a real feel good story that will bring a smile to your face, and that for me, is what fiction is sometimes all about.
I received this book in exchange for an honest review. It was great to catch up with the curvy girls club! Jane, Katie, and Ellie all get pregnant at the same time. In addition to the stresses of pregnancy and dealing with strange bodily changes, the curvy girls have some other personal problems to deal with.
Jane is the co-host of a light and fluffy talk show. When she becomes pregnant, the ratings start going down, but her producers don't want her to tell the audience she's pregnant. This situation contributes to Jane's negative body issues. She's trying hard to keep herself from falling back into the same old pattern of dangerous fad diets.
Meanwhile, Ellie continues to struggle with Thomas's overbearing mother. She is afraid of Millie taking over her pregnancy and baby raising, so she and Thomas are waiting to tell her. Katie and Rob are surprised at a pregnancy so early in their relationship. Katie feels Iike a huge, unattractive whale.
I enjoyed revisiting these fun characters. This book was not as serious as the last one was. It was shorter, so that made sense, but I did miss some of the serious issues discussed in the last book. This was a very quick and easy read! It kept me engaged and I enjoyed the characters.
I really enjoyed reading The Curvy Girls Club when it released in 2014, and I was definitely looking forward to the release of book 2, The Curvy Girls Baby Club, which is a short story at about 146 (print) pages long. It was great to catch up with some of the original characters, Ellie, Katie and Jane, and- surprise!- they are all pregnant! The rest of the story follows these women as they experience the joys and frustrations of pregnancy and impending motherhood.
I loved the fact that author Gorman chose to write about the great and the not-so-great aspects of pregnancy, rather than just presenting it in one glowing light. Pregnancy and motherhood can be amazing, but they can also be incredibly confusing and frightening! The story is quite far-fetched at times, so you'll have to be willing to suspend your disbelief while reading, but all together it was a light and fun read. I would have loved to have seen this one become a full-length novel- there were lots of topics worth exploring! My thanks to the author for providing me with a copy for review.
The women who founded the Curvy Girls Club are back. But as they are about to find out, losing weight and learning to love the body you are in does not always work outside the boundaries of their club (which is flourishing beautifully). There are some who will test your resolve. Will they be able to remain positive in the face of some well meaning and some not so well meaning people while they gain the most beautiful weight of all?
You will laugh, moan and totally sympathize with these three woman as they each await their Christmas due date. You really will enjoy this short novella and if you haven't already read the Curvy Girls Club to see how it all began! The Curvy Girls Baby Club
One of my favorite go-to authors when I want a story with characters the reader can really relate to and a story the reader can completely immerse themselves in.
I really enjoyed the premise of these best friends who all fall pregnant at the same time. The ups and downs, the morning sickness, the swelling ankles, the expanding waistline, the food cravings, the emotional roller-coasters, meddling in-laws, unsympathetic bosses, the list goes on and on. Through it all Ellie, Katie and Jane have each other to support one another, celebrate the ups and sympathize with the downs.
This is a sequel to The Curvy Girls Club so I recommend reading that one first to get to know Ellie, Katie and Jane a little bit beforehand.
Disclaimer: I received a complimentary copy of The Curvy Girls Baby Club from the author in exchange for an honest review.
I received a review copy I have also read The Curvy Girls Club, so I was familiar with the cast of characters. I do recommend giving that book a read before picking up the Baby Club, though it’s not a must. Because this is a novella it goes right into the story, right into the depth of the plot line, and moves quickly throughout the chapters. It was nice to catch up with the women and see what is happening in their lives as they all become pregnant at the same time – not planned! Each woman is of course very different – not only with the pregnancy, but also their careers and family life as well. Super cute and very chick lit, and I loved the little added self-confidence boosters along the way as well!
If you enjoyed The Curvy Girls Club then you will love this too. It is a bit of a coincidence that Ellie, Katie and Jane all find themselves expecting around Christmas but I really enjoyed the texts as they support each other through their pregnancies. There are some fabulous secondary characters too in the form of the mother-in-law from hell, which add a little depth to what is essentially a light easy read. This is not easy to achieve in a novella. My only real criticism is that I was over far too soon. That said, it’s ideal when you want a quick pick-me-up as with Michele’s easy style of writing, you’ll race through it.
This book is a quick read & is the sequel to The Curvy Girls Club & I loved it.
This story follows on a few months from where the first book finishes & we catch up with Katie, Jane & Ellie and surprise surprise, they are all pregnant. The book tells us about all sides of pregnancy, the good & the bad and how it impacts on each of their lives.
I think it is a great story to follow up with, hopefully Michele Gorman will make it a trilogy so that we can see how they are all coping with motherhood & all it brings.
I would definitely recommend this book to my girlfriends, it was a lovely read.
It was great to meet up with the characters from the Curvy Girl's Club and see how their lives had continued and how they maintained their attitudes to themselves in spite of the rigours of pregnancy.
My only criticism would be the length of the book- especially when my Kindle said I was at 84%. I did feel shortchanged when 15% of the book was an excerpt from The Curvy Girls Club!
This was a really good follow on from the first book was an easy quick read and good to hear what happens to the girls. Ellie is just back from honeymoon and really cannot wait to share her news that she is expecting a baby and she soon learns that she isn't the only one expecting and everyone is due at Christmas. Follows the stories of each of them as they go through each month of there pregnancy. A great read.
In this novella follow-up to The Curvy Girls Club, we learn how things are going for Ellie, Katie and Jane, as we follow them on the next stage of their journey together. As all three girls find themselves pregnant and expecting their babies at Christmas, we follow their lives leading up to this. With fun, laughter and a few tears, this is a lovely read, and a real page-turner.
Enjoyed sitting in the sunshine reading this book & finished it quickly. I love how light hearted Michele Gormans books are & I find I can't put them down once I started. If you love the likes of Sophie Kinsella & Lindsey Kelk then you'll love Michele's books. I've only read 2 but can't wait to read the rest
