One kiss ... and her lips forever lingered on mine as if tattooed there.
Melody Quinn, all through high school I loved her from afar. Of course, in a cruel twist of fate, she waited until right before I left for boot camp to confess she felt the same. In that tender moment, we shared a kiss that branded her name onto my heart. Despite intense training, deployments, and life-altering tragedies, never once did she leave my thoughts.
Now, years later, fate has led me home. I can’t help but wonder ... is a second chance possible? Reconnecting won’t be easy. My life has changed in ways she may never accept. But the spark that has always been between us explodes into an electrifying jolt every time she looks my way. The timing is horrible, but I have to risk it. She needs to know no matter how stormy these Bourbon Nights get, I’ll never walk away from her again.

This is Melody and Brett's story from Brett's point of view. I really didn’t see the wisdom of giving us what seemed like the same story from the other POV until I got into the book. I thought I knew Brett well from Melody's book (Love Notes) and didn’t feel like I had missed anything. I couldn’t have been more wrong.
Melody's book was an all-consuming experience, reaching into the shadows and crevices of my soul, because it deals with life events that paralleled my own experiences still visible in the rearview mirror. It felt like this gifted, insightful writer had cracked the door of my heart and written all of my emotions onto the pages. Brett's story is different, but no less compelling, and vital for the subject matters it covers.
This book again shares Brett and Melody's pivotal first kiss, as well as the Quinn family tragedy that brings the family back together. Brett steps in to keep the Quinn family's bourbon distillery going so the family can focus on their needs. We learn more about his time in the Marines and the ghosts that haunt him, as well as how his daughter, Parker, came into his life.
Where Melody's story was more emotionally wrecking, with the sun finally finding it’s way out of the clouds to shine once again, Brett's is more of a nuanced poignancy that runs as an undercurrent throughout the story. Oh, there are emotional times, even excruciatingly difficult times, but Brett’s stoicism and strength provided me a sense of security and confidence that the bad time would pass, that things would get better, and that these beloved characters would be all the better for it.
Once again, we're presented with real life in all its messiness, and love finding a way in spite of it. We're reminded that every human is flawed and broken, and that finding the one person who loves each piece of our imperfect, wounded heart is worth everything. The other inducement is to make every moment count. We never know when it may be our last.
Thoughtful and engrossing, this phenomenal story of unconditional love, journey through grief, and personal growth will touch your heart profoundly and be one of your absolute best reads this year. Don’t miss it!
So I’m a sucker for both POV’s when it comes to a story. So I was so glad to see Brett’s POV but man was it a journey to read! I love these characters already so to be able to jump back on and learn even more makes reading this series so much more amazing!! I adored Brett when he was part of Melody’s story but I adore even more after reading his story! I can’t wait for more from this amazing series! I’m hooked and addicted!
Bourbon Nights is Brett’s story from Bourbon Love Notes. It’s about his life before he met Melody since that life altering moment 10 years ago. Brett is a retired Marine with a big secret, and he comes with a spunky tutu adorned 7-year-old named Parker. He steps in to help at The Barrel House while the Quinn family faces the loss of their patriarch.
Brett has always noticed Melody but never acted on it. He chalked it up to her family being close to his. He signed his future away on the dotted lines when he joined the Marines. He was deployed twice and that came with some serious life altering consequences, but Brett has always the quiet stoic one, so he buries them deep. When his best friend ends up pregnant, he steps in to help her as any friend would do. Flash forward ten years and he is called home and it’s here he reunites with Melody. Things are dodgy at first but slowly the fall in love and tackle losses and setbacks together.
I will say these books are such an effortless read. They make me want to flip the pages to see what’s next. You might think oh this is just basically a retelling of the same story but it’s not. We learn Brett is so much deeper than we thought. He is real and affected by real life problems. I liked that he was this pillar for Melody and Parker. I liked that he wasn’t afraid to admit he needed help. Once again The Barrel House series has triggered my emotions again but let’s be honest aren’t, we all emotional this year? I can’t wait for Brody’s story next!
I love an all-male POV story, and I was hoping that Bourbon Nights wasn't just going to be a rehash of Bourbon Love Notes. Thankfully, it was not. Of course, there are many of the same scenes between Melody and Brett, but this time told from his POV. But Shari J. Ryan did a great job of adding extra content about Brett's life that really made this slow-burn romance so much more!
From the moment Brett thinks he recognizes Melody on the plane, to how he unconventionally became a single dad and his struggles in raising Parker alone, this book was fantastic from start to finish. Even though I *knew* Brett and Melody's story already, it didn't feel like I was reading the same book over again.
I can't wait to see what SR does with Brody's POV! I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.
Bourbon Nights by Shari J Ryan is book 3 in the Barrel House Series. Book 3 tells Brett and Melody’s story from Brett’s POV. While you know their story from book 1, Bourbon Love Notes, hearing Brett’s thoughts and feelings let’s you see and feel it in a completely different way. The way they are there for each other and hearing about the marines and Parker’s story shed new light on it. Shari’s writing will make you feel all the heartbreak and emotions as the characters deal with tragedy and loss. Brett and Melody find a way to help each rebuild themselves stronger than ever. This series is filled will so many emotions and the author’s writing style captures it so well. While the story is similar to the first book telling it from the male perspective and hearing about Parker’s story adds a new dimension to it and to Brett. This is an emotional series not to be missed!
This story is Brett's perspective to the first story in this series, Bourbon Love Notes. This story was more like an epilogue. It could have been incorporated into Melody's story. I forgot a lot of the details from her story to correlate with his version we are getting months later.
There are new elements into Brett's life and challenges. As always the author's writing is full of emotion and you love this character even more. But I didn't feel like it was a real romance story, that was found in Melody's story. There is no heat really. It was odd. I'm going to skip the last book in this series. The second half of Journeys story. It's all too disjointed for me.
There are so many things I want to say about this story and yet I don’t want to say any of them. Let me ease into it. I suppose this book could stand alone, but I don’t recommend it. This is Brett’s perspective of the events surrounding Bourbon Love Notes. And while I guess you could understand the story reading only this one, you’d lose out on a lot of the nuances. I was a little surprised that the overlap period between this and the first book takes up so much space. I was expecting to see a bit more of the after “happily ever after”. However, there are many flashback scenes that show us what Brett was going through during the decade he and Melody were apart, setting the stage for what comes next. And here is where I really don’t want to say anything. I fear I could land myself in spoiler territory. Suffice it to say that I loved everything about this book. I’m also maybe a little grateful that this story didn’t dig in as deep to the events that take place after the end of Bourbon Love Notes, because this may be one of very few Shari Ryan titles I’ve read where I wasn’t a bawling, emotionally exhausted mess in the end. Don’t get me wrong, this book still packs the emotional punch of a speeding freight train, but there’s something ‘lighter’ in the approach. Maybe it’s just that degree of separation from the Quinn siblings’ grief that allowed me to hold it together better this time around. Whatever the case, it doesn’t change how badly I want to read Brody’s piece of the puzzle now. I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book through Foreword PR & Marketing.
4.5 Breathtaking Stars! Friends to lovers/second chance romance are my favorites and I was so captivated by this beautiful, poignant, and steamy love story. I fell hard for Brett and Melody in their slow burn romance, Bourbon Love Notes, but really wanted to know more about Brett. Bourbon Nights is his pov and his side of it was so raw and emotional. We learn more about why he joined the army, his daughter, Parker, his feelings for Melody, and so much more that will take your breath away. It was great reliving how he and Melody reconnected through his eyes. I loved having his thoughts as he helped Melody through her difficult time, making her feel at ease, more confident and stronger. Now it is Melody's turn to be patient, loving, and supportive, while helping Brett heal. I was so captivated by Brett and Melody's journey, from when they were just kids to how they changed and grew, to who they are today. I love how authentic the evolution of their relationship was, and I cheered for their HEA. I also loved the strong connection and bond they shared with their families, it made this story so sweet, heartwarming, but heartrending as well. Their bond and unconditional love gave them the strength to hope, heal, and keep moving forward. This is a wonderfully rich, powerful and raw story that touched on some emotional topics with honesty and empathy. It made me love Brett and Melody's heartwarming and emotionally captivating story even more!
Going into Bourbon Nights, I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect. I mean - I knew the story from Melody’s point of view in Bourbon Love Notes. Part of me expected the same story, just from Brett’s POV. That is true for part of Bourbon Nights, but there is much more here too.
Ms Ryan does an excellent job of using flashbacks to help us see what Brett went through during the 10 years between his first kiss with Melody to when he reconnects with her.
I enjoyed being able to get into his head and understand how he felt during some of their interactions. I also appreciated that while those weeks and months represented in Bourbon Love Notes were important, this book also went further into their life after “the end.”
The gentle light shined on the struggles our military and veterans face even after coming home is an important message that I think more of us need to hear, especially considering that we are approaching the 20th Anniversary of the “War on Terror”
As expected, this is well written. While it is strongly tied to Bourbon Love Notes, Bourbon Nights can be read as a stand-alone. I wouldn’t recommend that though as reading the two stories in order helps with the understanding of both. I am looking forward to seeing Brody’s side of his and Journey’s story in the final book of the series.
This is Brett and Melody's story from Brett's point of view. In this you see Brody and Angie's friendship and how is blossoms to where is is there when Parker is born. They are such great friends he agrees to be Parker's guardian if anything ever happened to Angie Brett experiences PTSD but never seeks treatment for it because he thinks its under control. However one bad episode almost costs Brett a future with Melody and Parker so he goes into treatment Melody learns that he was writing her letter from the moment he was gone in his enlistment but she never got them. Turns out her ex had kept them from her. Parker is a smart girl for someone as young as she is and understands that something is wrong with Brett that needs to be treated. So with her and Melody's support Brett sees he won't lose his family. Will they be able to help him through his PTSD? What will the future be for their family?
This is yet another installment in this series that will pull at your heartstrings. When you first met Brett in the first book you don't really know what he has suffered with and this book really shows you that there's more to him. This is a well written and very entertaining book. I would recommend this book to any book lover.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
In this 3rd book of the series, we get to follow Brett's side of what happened in book one from when he was a senior, to joining the military, his experiences there, his best friend Abby, and his life with Parker to what is going on through the present for him. We get a better look at the smart little angel that is Parker. This was a neat read, getting to see parts of book 1 through Brett's eyes this time instead of Melody's. I had to have tissues ready several times as I lost it, especially at the party with Melody's father, Harold, and his conversation with Brett. Those parts were just as hard to read in this book as they were for me in the first. I loved how Melody talking dirty to Brett consisted of stuff dealing with the shop. Parker's response to what she 'overhears' is too funny. It sounds like book four, Brody's story is going to be just as hard as Brett's story was for reasons of Brody's own. What happened that changed Brody's life? We'll find out. Enjoy this series and you need to definitely read it in order.

Shari Ryan continues to spoil readers with her continued releases in the Barrel House series. In book three we finally get to see the male POV from Brett’s perspective. From the beginning Ryan takes us back to the first book in this series giving us Brett’s take on his relationship with Melody. The attraction, chemistry, and hardships mirror the original novel, but Ryan adds the history of Brett and Parker into the mix really rounding out the emotions of this novel.
Brett and Parker have had an incredible journey to become a family. Her sweet innocence and his devoting love for a daughter he never expected is what originally drew me into the Barrel House series. Ryan only amplified those feelings with this touching story.
I absolutely loved getting both perspectives of these characters. Their viewpoints on family and even the story of surviving the trauma of loss. It's a genuine, heartfelt, engaging story of two childhood friends coming back together to heal each other after incredible losses. Ryan continues to bring out the emotion of her characters flawlessly with each addition to this series.

Enjoyed Melody and Brett's story! Well written and I loved every page. There were a few LOL moments throughout their story. Loved how loyal Brett was to his family and friends. They both endured losses which only made them stronger. Wonderful summer read!
Bourbon Nights is Brett and Melody’s story from Brett’s POV. I’ll admit that I put off starting this book because I didn’t quite understand the value of reading the story from a different point of view, but I was completely wrong. I was totally drawn into the story from the beginning and the story is so much richer now that I also have Brett’s point of view.
I realized that there was so much more to Brett than we saw in Bourbon Love Notes. His past was only touched on in that book. Learning the nuances of how Brett become a Marine and what he experienced was haunting. He suffered so much loss yet he was able to be strong for the important people in his life.
Melody’s love and strength shined in the latter part of this book and made me love her even more. She was able to turn the tables on Brett and show him it’s OK to let someone else be the strong one.
Their family wasn’t perfect, but it was real and honest and raw and there was so much love underneath it all. Bourbon Nights enhances this series and is extremely well written. It’s a beautiful second chance love story that radiates with the strength of family and love.
While I think that this book could be read on its own, it definitely is better when having read the previous books in this series. Having already been in the head of Melody, the heroine of this story, it was really great to be in the head of Brett, the hero. Additionally, this story goes on after Melody’s story ends. While reading Bourbon Love Notes, Brett seems a well-grounded, emotionally stable single dad who was able to help Melody to work through her grief. In this book, we learn about the skeletons in Brett’s closet, which don’t even appear until Melody’s story had ended. The author of this series has done a great job of showing how even in our darkest hours love being hope of coming back out the other side. I’m not sure that I’m crazy about his and hers books, but I have read them from several authors and the surprise factor of this book definitely kept the story from feeling tired, given that I have already read about these families from two other points of view. I am looking forward to reading Brodie’s story next!

This is book 3 of Ryan's series The Barrel House and is Melody and Brett's story told from Brett's point of view. There were a few similarities but the definite feel of this read was so different than that of book 1 (Bourbon Love Notes). A beautiful and well written love story that will tug at your heartstrings. I loved the epilogue and how the writer makes this more of a real life ending. This is a story of timeless and endless love and while scenes brought me to tears it was an overwhelming heartwarming read. I can't wait to hear Brody's point of view in his story with Journey in book 4 (Bourbon Fireball) since this read left us with a teaser...
some quotes that touched me: "I want to know what she's thinking. I'll never know, but will forever imagine." "A bond between friends is a relationship we choose." "The meaning of forever is the hardest part to understand." "It's easier to have a conversation about nothing than a real conversation about something I never talk about." and so many more...

Bourbon Nights is Melody & Brett's story told from his POV, which I wasn't really sure about since I thought I knew him, but I didn't know him like I thought. Now that I see how he got to where he was in Melody's story, I'm ready to go back & read it over again & then this one again right after. It's still he & Melody's story but we see his journey to her which nearly brought me to my knees as he went through a lot. It also had my eyes leaking since quite a bit of his journey dealt with his time in the military, and becoming a single father. Plus, we get his side of things as he & Melody build each other up, and it was glorious because I LOVE having the male POV adding more goodness in my stories. And Shari J. Ryan pours all her heart & soul into her beautifully emotional stories that blow me away as her characters, like Brett, come off very realistic when dealing with tragedy & loss. So hit those one click buttons if you've read the previous books, and if you haven't, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
If you have not read book 1 of The Barrell House series Bourbon Love Notes, then I recommend reading it first. This is Brett's pov, and was beyond phenomenal.
So many authors have tried to do a second book of the others pov, and it feels like your reading the exact same book, but that is not the case with this book. There is tons of new material and information.
Brett Pearson has had a rough ten years serving in the Marines. He has had a lot of loss in his life. His book really surprised me, and I'm so glad to finally get his POV.
I absolutely loved Parker. She was adorable. Blood doesn't make family, and Brett proves that to her everyday. I love their scenes.
This book made me fall in love with Brett and Melody even more as a couple. I love Melody's strength.
I absolutely recommend this five star read to anyone who wants a second chance Romance that is well written.

This series just keep getting better and Ms. Ryan just keeps tugging at my heartstrings. She has put together a beautiful story about heartbreak and loss and wrapped around it a ribbon of hope and heartfelt moments. Bourbon Nights is book three in The Barrel House series and I am thrilled that we had a chance to read Brett’s POV. If you are familiar with the series then you have met him in book one where we enjoyed Melody’s side of their story. So, if you haven’t read the first two books, I would highly recommend that you do before digging into this one. Now we get to experience all the big hearted goodness that is Brett. There so much more to him than I ever anticipated and I couldn’t stop the ache in my heart for his loss, feel the warmth from the generosity of his spirit and celebrate in the chance at him finding happiness and love.
This is Melody and Brett's story, told from his point of view. After reading Bourbon Love Notes, I thought that Brett was the perfect man. I was so wrong. He's far from perfect; he's just perfect for Melody. He never forgot "the kiss", and he loved her from afar for years, but life got in the way for both of them. I'm glad to know his entire story with Abby, and how he became Parker's father. He was an amazing best friend to Abby, and is a terrific dad to Parker. In Bourbon Love Notes, the story takes us up to the part where we believe that Melody and Brett are going to have their happy forever. This book takes us beyond that, to see even more of Brett's history, and how they are going to actually get to that happy forever, witnessing just how strong Melody is, as she's there to support him.

I received an ARC from the author thru Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving my review. This is Brett and Melodys story told thru his point of view. It takes you on a different journey to the same love story that started in Bourbon Notes. Brett left his love behind when he joined the Marines. They get a second chance to make something of the attraction they have felt for each other. Both characters have such a connection to each other that makes sparks fly. You cannot help but be drawn deeper into their love story. I thought the writing was excellent. The details shape Brett into the man who deserves the love of his life. They both deserve to be completed by their other half. I really enjoyed this book and I look forward to what comes next from Shari.

I am not always a fan of a complete book for another POV but when Shari J. Ryan is writing...I am reading.
Brett and Melody's story was book one in the series but Melody's point of view. I loved the story then so I knew this one would be just as good (Bourbon Love Notes review).
Seeing the thoughts that Brett has from the moment he sees Melody again for the first time in years to their memories as children, Shari J. Ryan gave me a gift. A gift of learning more about what make Brett, Brett and why he is who he is. It was insights I didn't even know I needed to know!
Shari J. Ryan always writes emotional, poignant and thought provoking books that creep into your heart and soul and This book is no different. She remains a automatic one-click author for me!
I loved BH #1,Bourbon Love Notes with Melody and Brett, but now getting Brett's POV in this book is just the best thing ever! We get some of the other story of course only this time all from Brett's eyes but then we get so much more amazing story. Story that is real, raw, beautiful and extremely emotional. I loved every single moment of it, even the heartbreaking, gut wrenching difficult ones. I really felt an ache for Brett so deep in my soul at what he was going through. And Melody is amazing, she just proved herself to be one of my favorite heroines at the way she handles everything with such strength, grace and so much love and support. Couldn't possible ask for more. Fantastic book Shari Ryan!
Bourbon Nights is Brett’s POV from Bourbon Love Notes about his journey with Melody and life in general. This is a true different POV and gives you so much more from the original story and is no way just a rehash. Brett and Melody steal your heart even more in this book as the connection between these two shows just how strong it is. Bourbon Nights not only showed strength, sadness and sacrifice it also showed us the broken pieces we didn’t see before. This POV not only filled my heart with love but it also made it ache and had plenty of tears falling. I really didn’t want this book to end and even though I wanted a magic fix what the author gave me was so much better, she gives us reality and truth with a huge side of strong love forever.
This is book three in The Barrel House series. This is Quinn's take on the overall story and what a story it is. Young love between Quinn and Melody, bad timing - the sharing of feelings too late and ten years have separated these two. Quinn is now home to stay and fingers crossed he has a second chance with Melody. This whole series so far as pulled me in from the beginning but I could not wait for Quinn. This author did not disappoint at all. I loved this heartbreaking story that blew my heart apart put it back together piece by piece throughout the story but at the end, left it bigger and stronger for book four. I cannot wait! This is a must read series. Enjoy!

Oh, the heat is HOT, and the physical chemistry is captivating so be careful you may just get burned all the heat coming off these pages. There were some "oh no" "oh wow" " what the what" moments and add in uncanny mishaps, mayhem, and shenanigans and boy are there shenanigans now we are going to see Brett and Melody’s story but from Brett side of things and let me tell you it is something. The two of them are also dealing with the death of Quinn bring the family back and working the bourbon distillery so that the family can focus on healing but he is also healing or dealing with ghost from his past in the military and trying to be there for his daughter which is a ride all in itself so can they find their own slice of happiness.
Bourbon Nights takes our heart for a ride in this emotional, realistic and traumatic love story. Shari knows exactly how to get us invested in her books because they are filled with hope, sacrifice, and once in a lifetime love. Brett struggles to be everything for everyone while putting himself on the back burner after he returns from war. He finds his perfect partner in Melody who helps him out of the darkness. They actually save each other in different ways. You need to read this book for Parker, the bourbon bottles, and the letters alone. This story is a heartbreaking journey of loss, healing and second chances that will give you all the feels.
This is the first book that I have read from Shari Ryan. And I am now a huge fan. I loved Bourbon Nights. Melody has come back home to work at the family business because her dad is dying. Brett is helping out at the business because Melodys dad is unable to work anymore. Brett and Melody were childhood friends. But they haven’t talked since Brett left for the marines ten years ago. There relationship grows from there. This was definitely an emotional story. I definitely recommend it. And I can’t wait for Brody’s story!

Bourbon Nights by Shari J. Ryan is the third book in her The Barrel House series and is Melody and Brett’s story from Brett’s point of view, the first book in the series. And let me tell you, we needed this. We needed to see what was going on in Brett’s mind. We see what he went through while in the military and how that impacted the man he would become and haunt him. We see their love again and why it was so strong and undeniable. I devoured this story and loved it just as much, if not more, than before. I would highly recommend starting with book 1 of this series, but it is definitely worth the read.
Read and reviewed for Sultry Sirens Book Blog. Happy reading!
If you are familiar with the series then you know that we have already had the honor of getting to know Brett and Melody’s love story but watching it unfold from Brett’s perspective is everything you could want and more. Learning about everything that Brett has experienced and felt from when he left town to serve his country, to his daughter Parker, to the events that finally bring him home and the love that he has for Melody that time and distance hasn’t diminished.
These two show once again how the unwavering love and support they have for each other only makes them and their relationship that much stronger and proves that the only place they belong is with each other.
