Power of Five #6

Great Falls Rogue

Rate this book
At the stroke of midnight, anything can happen.

Lera is walking a dangerous tightrope. By night, she takes off her veil to hunt the dark creatures leaking into the mortal world. By morning, she is Leralynn of Osprey again, failing her classes and dodging Deputy Headmaster River’s keen scrutiny.

River is watching Leralynn like a hawk. A painful distraction, since the mouthy cadet stirs his soul—and other parts of him—with a mere glance. Which doesn’t matter. Lera is a student and River will ensure she toes the line, or else.

As Ostera approaches, the night when magic is most potent, River is on high alert for any threat to the academy’s reputation. But he hasn’t prepared for a threat to his heart.

It is the grand Ostera Ball, and the clock races toward midnight...

Thank god. Lera went back to her badass self, kicking ass at night and keeping everything from falling apart during the day. At this point, all of the males are pissing me off. They might not have their memories, but they are still being complete ass hats. Especially River. I honestly didn't know how Lera was ever going to look at him the same again after threatening to beat her. Nuh uh.

I'm really getting bored with the males thinking their human. The series should have ending at book 4. But instead everything is being dragged out for no reason.

Okay time for your review folks.

First off, I was half right about who would recognize her first. Unfortunately my guess, only recognized her for whole split second while he orgasmed. To put it in nice technical terms. Lol.

Now for who actually did recognize her, it actually makes complete and utter sense that he would be the one to break through the spell. And actually you know it's awesome. I absolutely love them. If she had to pick one of the guys to be her lifelong mate, I could totally see them together. However there is one other person that I would prefer her to be with. And no I'm not going to tell anyone. You'll just have to read the books lol. At the end, I may or may not come back and put in my opinion on who I think she belongs to, but who knows maybe I won't.

I think we've all established that Tye is not the one. That recognizes her first. So that being said, everything that Mira is doing is for benefit of the mortal realm. And if Tye could see through her eyes, he would agree with her. But unfortunately he's still locked behind the spell so chorus he sees everything she says as a threat to his glory.
The saddest thing is, when all of this is over, and Tye remembers lera, he is going to lose himself so much for all the hurt that he is going to bring on lera. Whether it be physical, mental, emotional. And yes there is a difference between mental and emotional. When affects the brain, when affects the heart. He's going to loathe himself. And I'm hoping that it's not going to break the bonds.

Actually even thinking about it, makes me want to bawl my eyes out. I really hope that everything works out. I'm assuming it does but you never know.

And wouldn't it be a funniest hell twist if Han started to like lera?

Like as in boom chicka wow wow

Haha I am well on my way through book number 7, and I will be with you shortly for one of my updates with that book.

Happy reading

The series is still good, but I’m not liking this storyline as much. I feel like it’s dragging and not liking this disconnection between the characters. Hoping it will get back to the romantic, unbreakable binds soon!

Same feeling as the book before. Why did the story have to change?? Now I am just reading this for the sake of finishing a series, not out of enjoyment

The first few books in this series were really good but the great falls books weren’t as captivating and I was relieved to get to the end.

Review

This series started with great promise, good writing, romance, and enchanting characters, however in book five and six the male characters turned into violent masochist ass holes not worth my interest or my time. The sexy spunky romance ended up being nonexistent, and the cruelty took center stage. I'm not reading any further on with this series. On the upside the writing is very good our author just forgot many of us read this stuff for the romance not the violence.

Dnf 50%. 1 star. Okay I don’t know what to do. I’m questioning my ratings of the first 4 books now. Were they really good or was I in some drug induced haze? It’s been a while since I read them. I picked up book 5 because I thought I loved the first 4. Originally, The first 4 books represented a closed series. However, due to the success of the books I think the author kept going and started a new adventure! Book 5 did not impress. Noting about Lera and her males appealed all of a sudden. She acts without for-thought or any kind of rational mind. The sex scenes feel like they were put in there because the author had to meet her sex scene quote or something. They are completely out of place and a little ridiculous sometimes. But mainly Lera gets on my nerves constantly. I decided to stick it out (because kindle unlimited) but regretted it pretty soon. I skimmed most of the seks scenes and ridiculous interactions between the main characters. Until Lera is asked to whip River (on the arm) with a switch as punishment for his mistake. I know without the context it’s a little difficult to place but trust me in The book it is extremely preposterous. Here I thought Lera would make a stand. Her, the girl who has continuous nightmares about being whipped in her past. Who despises it to the core of her soul... gave in under pressure (River said he deserved it for his mistake) and did it anyway. This is where I wanted to set the book on fire and erase its existence from my mind. To bad I read on a kindle. In short, books 5 and 6 of the series are not worth the paper they are written on. I might have to reread the first 4 to make sure I was sound of mind when I read them.

Series review: Big ol' mixed bag, here.

Always start with the positives: I was really into them. They were fun to read and I'm sad not to spend any more time with them. The heroes are very distinct characters with personalities and backstories and identifiable voices and I really liked them all. The world is very fun and not just a standard version of Faerie. Honestly, 4.5 stars if purely based on enjoyment.

But on to the negatives:

I'll be upfront: the writing in the first book is bad. Dialogue is unrealistic and cringe, the characterization of Lera is all over the place, and the pacing is truly terrible - particularly the pacing of the relationships. It does get better as the series goes on. All three issues even out the further into the series, thankfully. Unfortunately they do continue to call them 'her males' until the end of time, though, so just make peace with it.

The last three books - when the writing is on more solid footing - are like an entirely different series? In which the plotting is better I guess but also more frustrating narratively. Things dragged on too long and the whole point of reading reverse harem - the harem - is missing so it's a real shift from the first four. Maybe even just stop at the 4th, honestly.

But why, why are Lera's chapters in 1st person present tense and 'the males' voices in 3rd person past tense? It's bad and confusing and adds nothing, but Lidell sticks with it all the way through the series.

Also Leralynn is a stupid name and jarred me every time.

I read the component stories here, Clock Strikes Midnight, Dungeons and Dreamers, and Hide and Seek, as each was published (and separately reviewed each). They are wonderfully fun books, for for fans of the Power of Five series and for newcomers. I was happy to give each of these stories 5-stars when initially released so it’s a “no-brainer” to award 5-stars to the set.

So worth the read... amazing

So I started book one with no idea what I had gotten myself in to. I read all 7 book in two days. I just couldn’t put it down. The storyline is one that is in the days of horses and Lords and Masters and Peasants. Lera Lynn is a horse hand for an abusive Master. When one day 4 Fae ride into her life. She is to complete their Quint. But a human has no powers so how can she save the new world she finds herself in... their journey throughout the 7 books are of growth, challenge, evil, manipulation, and trust. It’s definitely worth the money and time. The characters are amazing and the author does a great job of building their past into their present and the impact on them as a quint.

⭐️⭐️⭐️/5, 🌶🌶🌶/5
I liked this one better than book 5 but I honestly skimmed several chapters where Lera wasn’t with any of the males and just read dialogue. The story is really dragging because they’re not making any progress with their original mission, and it seriously sucks that none of the males remember Lera, until Coal at the very end. BUT I really enjoyed Coal and Lera’s dynamic in this book, especially when he finally remembers her. It was such a reward and I hope there are similar scenes with the rest of the quint in the next book. I just feel this new storyline in books 5-7 is lacking what books 1-4 have. But I’m still enjoying the series enough to finish it.

😴

It's basically the same as the last book. Nothing different, She is made to look really dumb and I don't just mean the book learning cause you can be smart just not educated, she doesn't think things through to many other reason to get into, and I thought the power of 5 was soo powerful so why not use that to break the power of the amulets. Sorry but the story is boring.

WOW!

My heart and soul are finally starting to recover after this gem! It’s still not intact, but I do have some relief after the last book. I’m so anxious and excited for the final book but I don’t want this crazy rollercoaster of emotions to end!

In my opinion, the guys have some enormous amount of groveling to do.
Lera has a flaw - she is not a high born and never learned to dance, read long academic texts and apply herself in an academic way. This is something she believes makes her lacking and River with his academic prowess becomes a high standard she is unable to meet. This is no way the way he feels but sometimes one person can feel less and nothing can make him see otherwise.
I actually liked that about her. She was not perfect, she suffered due to her being imperfect and that made her a wonderful character, real and tangible and able to relate to.
I found her journey to be quite hard, to have zero support from her males, yet she was burdened with the mission, with survival, with making them see reason, with their connection. She suffered so much that I felt it with her and cried. The males were so close, so tangible yet worlds apart believing the magic binding them to believe a past that was never there. Her only companion was Shade's wolf, like a guardian. Tye's tiger did not make any cameo in any of the months they spent in the academy.

Not much plot progress but fuuun

3.5 for me. I like what the setup is but if I think of the book itself, I can summarize that Lera is alone and trying to get her guys back AND keep the mortal school safe. That’s basically it. Then the subplots deal with the enemy, her guys playing along with their own scripts, and her actions (cause they’re big enough to have their own section). And lastly the combination of all three. So on one hand yes a lot goes on, but basically, not much moves forward. At most the wall is a little thinner. A little less safe. No other progress with the main plot line moves on.

I like the guys and the pain they give Lera lol mainly cause I enjoy the rest of their relationship. Was it really just the magic bringing them together, or Lera’s sparkling personality? You didn’t get to really see it the first time around so I’m glad this second series exists. I’m a little worried about it ending in the last book but then again, I’ll be happy if it just entertains me and ends on a good note.

DNF, sadly.

Let me preface this by saying that I really enjoyed this series. Alex Lidell is a great author who wrote a really nice, fun story. The first three/four books were *chefs kiss.*

However, the storyline took a turn into tropes that I personally do not enjoy (I’ll note those at the bottom if you want a little spoiler).

Nevertheless, the writing is superb and the characters are lovable. I just felt like I was dragging myself through the book and it was no longer enjoyable. Since I began this series as a bit of a fun outlet, I’m choosing to set it aside. Goodbye sexy fae men *sighs*.

As always, here’s a little rating so you know what you’re getting into:

Language: 3/10
Drugs/Drinking: 0/10
Sexual Content: 10/10
Violence: 5/10
Age Recommendation: 18+

SPOILER TROPES:
Amnesia trope, High-school trope (sort of), Teacher/Student, + Miscommunication (BIG TIME)

Poor Lera

Try as she may, she is making no headway with anything! The frustrations she suffers, the insecurities given the situation with her mates. Every time she gain one step forward with them, it ends up costing her two steps backward.
And now we have a new player in the picture…Han. The instructor for the Prowess Trials. But Han isn’t what he portrays himself to be. Lera knows something is off with him, unfortunately she can’t quite figure out what it is. The time is nearing when the magic is going to burst through the veils, when the Night Guard surprises them all. Will Lera be able to accomplish the mission they were entrusted with? Or will the mortal realm, with them stuck in it, go down in flames?

1st reading: Again, very well written and compelling.
The tension - contrived or not in the first book - just ratchets higher in this second part of the new plotline. Lera discovers that there are Night Guard in the area, but are they responsible for the tear in the wards protecting the mortal world from magic, or are they there to take advantage of it? And how will she restore her mates' memories?
I'm both looking forward to the rest of the story and dreading it, as it means the journey with these characters will come to an end. I'm really enjoying this!

Great Falls Rogue: Power of Five Collection Book 6

Love ❤️ love this series every book so far has exceeded my expectations. This series is at the top of my favorites list.

This book was extra great with Tye, River, Shade an especially the ending between Coal and Lera. I have been waiting for that to happen. Can't wait to read the last book but do not want it to end.

I definitely recommend this book/series…

So let me start by saying that overall I am enjoying these books, I like the author’s writing style, and love hearing more about the characters in the book.

That being said, things that irritate me are the repetitive sex scenes (if I have to hear about her ‘aching empty channel’ or how she ‘clenches her thighs’ one more time…) and the really abrupt, awkward way each of the books end. If I could I’d rate this a 3.5.

That aside, I am moving right along to the last book!

Rogue of Great Falls is book six in the series Power of Five by author Alex Lidell. Things are getting interesting- the crack in the veil is getting bigger - magic is escaping- and there’s a new threat the Night Guard. Evil Fae and the have a plan to destroy everything from the inside. There’s is one bright spot - one of the males remembers and oh what a reunion.
Enjoy!!

Rogue of Hreat Falls

Lera is still trying to figure out a way to get her men to not fall to the veils magic while also single handling keeping the mors creatures from the mortals. This book will fruatrate you to the point you will wish her men would break through the magic. With one down by the end we have to hope the rest will come quickly in the last book or the mortal world may be even more danger.

I DNF this. I should have stopped at book 4. Books 1-4 had character growth and strengthened their bond.

This one has my most hated trope: AMNESIA
All the progress and growth has been undone AND we have to go back to school like they’re immature teenagers? I made it through book 5 but with no progress toward a resolution in sight, I can’t stand to read the emotional torture for two more books.

Still reading....

Lyra has had to take care the quint, who have no knowledge of her as well as keep the humans safe. She finally gets an Allie in her roommate, who is the library's niece. She does manage decouple with Tye, Cole and is on the prowl for Shade. Things get a little out of hand when she is jailed and forgotten.

It's an interesting story.

good

Lera continues to struggle on her own with a little help from her roommate. The book is written well in describing her struggles and heartache. She’s still mostly alone at the end of this book, which kind of sucks. I was hoping for more happiness, but I guess we’ll get that in the next book!

It’s still a very enjoyable series. I do think drawing out over two books who the male fae is that remembers first (he doesn’t remember until the book is pretty much over) was making it a bit intolerable. In addition I also agree with some other readers who felt that the series should have concluded before they went to the mortal realm. Overall still enjoyable though.

Ugh the series is finally coming back with this one! I hate that the connection between the main characters is/was gone- the last book almost made me lose hope. Here the author could have been building their lives together and really growing their connections, and instead, it’s like we’re rereading the beginning of the series, and they’re all meeting each other again.
