This book is made up of essays from immigrants to Finland from the Middle East and Africa.
Each essay is around 6 - 8 pages, with photos, large font and lots of white space. Each essay is broken down into subsections such as food, the future and advice to immigrants and native Finns.
Each person lives in different places in Finland and came to Finland via different means and routes. They are all in their 20's, and have lived in Finland around three years.
This is a good book for any reader to gain perspective into the life of an immigrant and learn about different cultures. The language is easy enough for any language level to understand.
I really liked it. Easy to read, and I learned some words. I am at an A2/B1 level and don't live in or regularly visit Finland, so it is difficult to get a lot of exposure to the language. This free PDF book helped. I loved learning about the experiences of each person in this collection of personal stories of immigrants and refugees. They talked about dealing with prejudice and making friends as well as not getting to choose their home and not having anyone to talk to in their native language. Reading it made me how many native Finns read it as well.
Teksteissä oli todella koskettavia tarinoita. Minusta on tärkeä inhimillistää turvapaikanhakijoita ja muita maahanmuuttajia - useimmin he haluavat vain osallistua yhteiskuntaan. Ellei puhuta suomea heidän kanssa, heidän on melkein mahdotonta oppia suomea. Eivät he halua vapaamatkustajiksi, vaan haluavat töihin. Kirjan tyyli oli kuintenkin minulle liian helppo. Se on tietysti hyvä asia! Tasoni nousee!
