Quinn is back in this the 2nd book of the Huntress Clan saga. Having barely escaped from the lair of the Demons, Quinn and Clark want to not only find the Headquarters of VirSync, they want to burn it and its horrific operations to the ground.
However, Quinn has come to realise that she is different from the ‘Hunters’ of old, being a ‘Huntress’ for a start, she has also come to realise that her abilities are not the same as that of a normal Hunter. She also comes to the conclusion that they are not a normal ‘Clan’, and that in this modern age, in which there are no longer that many Clan’s about, She realises that Her, Clark, Taylor and Miranda are actually their own Clan, a modern day Clan, one that capitalises on the modern day use of Technology, Magic and Hunter abilities, to make up for what has been lost, and, as such, she is now part of a new clan, The Huntress Clan.
And it is with this new found knowledge, that the gang decide to go after VIrSync and bring them down.
Things have changed in this second book, Quinn has become a bit more confident in her abilities, but with that confidence has also come the wisdom in knowing when to fight and when to retreat, rather than just running head-long into everything the way that she used to. Clark continues to be the Teacher, but he has also taken on the role of group leader, or Clan Leader. Miranda is the groups magic user, and this has allowed the story to expand beyond the realm of just the enemy having magic, so that the good guys can also have magic and counter whatever they are doing. Miranda’s character is also the negotiator, being slightly older than the other girls, and having a worldly experience about her, she brings a sense of calm to the group, ending confrontation, or at the least, allowing those involved to have their say, but keeping it civil. She is also very clever with a lot of other things, such as healing, which she is teaching Taylor as well.
Taylor is easily the smartest of the group ‘Academically’, with the ability to sit at a computer, and hack into just about anything, including putting together their own version of a VirSync setup so that Quinn can get back inside and find out what is happening.
As well as continuing with the world building of the story (which is intensely in-depth, not just with the Characters and their stories, which is amazing, but the brilliant scale of the back story that continues to unfold around the main story on the culture and history of the different species – the Fae, Werewolf, Vampire etc, and how they have interacted, fought and lived with each other over several thousand years, both within and without human history, it is impressive, very creative, detailed, and adds such a wonderful layer of intrigue to the story that you want to know more, as well as wanting to read more about the “actual” story), there are multiple plot lines that are being developed within this book, making it a very interesting story, with the continued story of Quinn’s training, and how that is unfolding down an unusual course, the hunting of VirSync Industries and those responsible for the deaths of so many, as well as preventing another attempt at a demonic take-over, or worse. There are also the sub-plots of Taylor and Miranda and their upskilling, as well as their combat training, and Taylor’s continued setup of electronics to get their tech environment established. As mentioned, there are also the numerous little subplots into the culture and background of the Hunter Clans, and those that interact with them, giving you a good understanding of the history of “this” universe as you read the story.
It is during these different things, that Miranda has a chance encounter with a Fae Princess, and, (without giving away any spoilers), learns that the Fae are the next targets of VirSync.
For the Fae are having a gathering of Elders, and VirSync have decided now would be a good time to eradicate them.
And thus begins the book as Hunters become the Hunted, who are also Hunting the Hunters. Can The Huntress Clan save the Fae Princesses? And what are the ramifications if not?
The character work is just exceptional, as with all of Jamie Davis’s books, the Characters not just driving the story, but allowing it to also develop their characters as well, allowing them to grow and develop as the story moves forward.
Davis tells wonderful stories, and this Urban Fantasy is no different.
If you love a good action adventure, with a combination of thrills, mystery, intrigue, and all the favourites of magic, as well as the Vamps, Werewolves, not to mention a few bonus Characters, then you will love this story.
I have to say this was one of this Authors best books to date, leaving you rather stunned at the outcome, but very well done. It is well worth the read. This is an outstanding series, I am already into book 3, get into it now, book 4 is coming soon!
