My Rating:

3.5

Favorite Quotes:

She seemed practical and sensible, and didn’t need an entourage to help her live out her life. He’d heard talk of the myth, so could it be that he’d actually come across one of those rare women who didn’t make a fuss?

When you retired, it was like your light bulb had gone out and you’ve been sitting in the dark ever since, still to replace it.

My Review:

When Adam Met Evie had an element of international flair, as the main characters were Canadian and British citizens who were taking an adventurous and somewhat fool-hearty trek through the Australian outback on their own, in a borrowed vehicle that had seen better days. This was an easy to follow and entertaining premise, yet the storylines evolved slowly and I often needed to scold myself to temper my impatience and to enjoy the scenic adventures and descriptions of the Australian travelogue, yet I certainly wouldn’t have minded if the story had progressed at a brisker clip. I greatly enjoyed Evie but grew increasingly frustrated with the disheartening spinelessness of the character of Adam and his layers of subterfuge. The storylines incorporated unique and amusing events and a few juicy bits of sizzle and steam along their journey. I was quite taken and amused by the gray nomads and aspire to their level of carefree wandering.

Romance and a road trip. Once again I went traveling through the pages of my book, this time to Australia. Giulia Skye has written an entertaining and refreshing romance with a little steam. Michael Adams is a famous Canadian Olympic swimmer who escapes to Australia to flee the paparazzi. Evie lives in England and was planning to take a trip of a lifetime with her partner, but he bailed on her so she decides to take the trip on her own. The two of them have a meet cute (sort of) and then decide to travel the Australian wild together. Not wanting to be recognized Michael introduces himself as Adam and Evie is none the wiser. What follows is an engaging story combining romance and travel.

I had fun with this book, I enjoyed traveling along with Adam and Evie. I also enjoyed waiting for the shoe to drop, you know eventually it’s going to come out that Adam has been lying and I kept wondering what Evie‘s reaction was going to be. Evie was such a warm hearted sweet girl you did not want her to get duped by Adam. But Adam seemed like a good guy who just got caught up in a bad situation? But lying is lying. For a while I was wondering if there’s any chance they could actually end up together? I mean not only was Adam lying, but the two of them lived across the world from one another. A sweet story that made me smile!

*** Big thank you to the author for my gifted copy of this book. All opinions are my own. ***

A romance set in the Australian Outback! I quite liked this one and the descriptions of the landscape were so vivid. Michael Adams is a former olympic swimmer trying to divorce his celebrity wife and hiding out in Australia, hoping the press won't find him. Evie Blake is a Brit backpacking to get over a long term relationship that ended. Not knowing Michael's true identity, she hires him to drive her into the remote wilds of Australia for a few weeks. Along the way things steam up between them....

One thing I think a lot of authors don't do well with this sort of setup is deal adequately with the fallout from someone keeping a big secret. In this case I thought she really nailed the landing. We get adequate time for healing, as well as a grovel that matched the crime in my opinion. This is a good one. Also note that his "wife" isn't really. It's all for show to get sponsorships.

From the moment I first read the blurb for this book I had a small voice in my head telling me that I would love it. Well that random voice was correct, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

It has everything I want from a book, a gorgeous guy (OK he spends most of the book lieing, but with good reason), a girl who has been hurt by liars in the past, but can't help but feel for the gorgeous guy, travelling around the outback of Australia, a location I rarely see in books, a road trip, and whole lot more besides.

Any book with travelling in is an instant draw to me, and I loved getting to know a part of Australia that I know deep down I probably would never visit in real life, at least not to the extent that Evie and Adam do, due to its sheer vastness and remoteness. I loved reading about life on the road in the Outback, while the pair get to know each other incredibly closely.

Even their first meet was very memorable, featuring a shower block, a chiselled body and Evie who couldn't stop staring!

This is a book filled with adventure, great scenery and a romance where I wasn't completely convinced I'd get the ending I wanted. Easily my favourite parts were the time spent in Australia, I even enjoyed Adam struggling to work out what he could say at all times that wouldn't make Evie realise the truth.

This is a debut book and I really enjoyed the author's writing, the pacing and just the whole story. Felt a bit different to other books in the genre which I found rather refreshing, and very entertaining.

Thank you to the author for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

This was a very sweet story. It had good humor, and just the perfect amount of steam to make it my kind of story. There were definitely some emotional aspects, and Adam, or Michael really, his back story was very interesting and unique I thought. I liked the setting of Australia, and really wished I could be there to see all of the scenery that was described. I also wondered if any of that area was in the recent fires.

The characters had great chemistry, even if at first Adam really did frustrate me with his pushing her away. And I wondered if there was more to his story because of that. I liked the free spirit that Evie was, and seeing how she dealt with her ex. A good cry, but then also still not being able to completely let go, which is really something I feel is realistic.

Any romance set against a backdrop of a far-flung place has always piqued my interest. When Adam Met Evie ticks all my boxes as we learn how two strangers end up together in the Australian Outback.

Trapped in a fake marriage to a glamour model and media-hungry, Saskia Williams, Michael Adams escapes to Australia. The impulsive trip begins badly after he's involved in a fight with paparazzi in Port Douglas. It stirs up a media storm and attention he's trying to avoid. With no choice but to hide, he re-invents himself as "Adam" and embarks on an extended break. His itinerary is non-existent as he embarks on a life-changing journey in the outback.

Evie Blake is taking a year out from her busy life in London. Originally, she was supposed to be accompanied by her long-time partner, but unfortunately, they've split and gone there separate ways. Unfazed, she embraces the freedom of travelling around Australia alone, that's until she meets fellow traveller, Adam from Canada. He's broke and she has money to split travel costs. Therefore, they set out together on a road trip across the Kimberley region of Western Australia to Darwin. It's a win-win situating until truths from the past catch-up with them.

As a hero, I shouldn't have liked Adam but I did. His 'economical with the truth' persona is a red-flag, but knowing why he acts and behaves the way he does is justified… I liked the contrast between him and Evie, a woman who is grieving for a life she hoped to have. She's straightforward and practical in her new surroundings in a way Adam isn't. Not surprisingly, the sparse living arrangements trigger a mutual attraction unlike either has experienced before. Only, the plan is for them to go their separate way once they reach Darwin because both have to return to where they live, half a world apart.

The road trip "sings" to my love of all things to do with travelling. I've been to Western Australia a few times, but haven't ventured as far north as the protagonists. Additionally, meeting characters like Frieda, Bill and Terry, not forgetting Webbo too...is a delight. The shared travelling camaraderie is both fun and insightful and I wished I was there with them all too.

The author's written an entertaining narrative which kept my interest the whole time. It's a perfect blend of elements I love; romance and travel. It's a fun and fully relatable narrative which tugged at my wanderlust nature! It also covers a sensitive topic and highlights the emotions of those in a similar situation to Evie. As a début novel, this is first class and I highly recommend to anyone who loves reading a virtual escape to another part of the world.

This book was always going to start off on the right note for me because there is nothing I love more than a book that takes me on a journey to a place I’ve never visited before and makes me feel like I am really there with the characters, and this novel does that in spades.

The author whisks us off to the Kimberley region of Australia, a place few of the readers of the book will have visited in person, as it is a remote and often hostile environment, well away from the normal tourist trail. This is exactly why it has attracted the two protagonists in the book, who are both running from something in their every day lives. It is somewhere that the author has obviously visited though, as she describes it in vivid and beautiful detail, making the landscape come alive to the extent that it becomes an additional character in the book, and an essential part of the story. I felt like I was exploring and experiencing the harsh landscape and amazing sights along with Adam and Evie as they went on their journey.

Aside from the allure of the great unexplored landscapes, the emotional journey that the protagonists go on in the book is equally compelling. The author has drawn two interesting and complex characters to explore, and created a complicated relationship dynamic between them, woven through with real emotion and sizzling chemistry. The writing felt honest and real – this is no flowery, fairytale romance, but a proper, lusty, immediate physical attraction that grows into something emotional and mature. A relationship written the way relationships actually are, rather than the way we imagine they might be before we’ve actually experienced life (except Adam has a much better physique than any man I’ve come across in real life, and Evie is much nicer than most people, but it wouldn’t be fiction if it were too close to real life, would it? We always need a hint of escapism!)

The plot is novel and interesting, containing enough tension and twists to make the reader want to pursue it to the very end. I was invested enough in both characters to care what happened to them, and I enjoyed all the fun little escapades that were fed in along the way (Webbo and his novel travelling companion were a particular highlight!) Giulia doesn’t shy away from writing the love scenes with *ahem* passion either!

This is a strong debut by a confident new author and I will be watching eagerly to see what she does next. Having looked at what she has planned for her follow ups, I am sure I will be taking more exotic adventures with her characters soon. One to keep an eye on.

So honestly, I don’t even know what would make a former Olympic athlete reluctantly become a “reality” TV star. And I put reality in quotations because clearly this show was fake as hell. His wife wasn’t even his actual wife, so, yeah. And then not to mention he insulted her on live television so that sucks a lot too. I could see why Michael would want to ditch out, you know?

So I already know why Michael would want to ditch out – wait I said that already – and I think it’s so cool that he ended up choosing Australia as a getaway spot for him. I feel like Canada and Australia aren’t too different, but also different enough that it could feel like something different? Wow I’m sorry guys. I know I keep repeating myself but I guess that’s really the main thing that I grabbed on.

I do like how he got to be in disguise a bit from the harsh life of fame, and somehow ended up exploring Australia with Evie. I mean, it sucks though that he basically lied to her so he wouldn’t be found by the people looking for him, and she was trying to escape all the lies and liars that she had to deal with back in London. That could cause for some drama, and I don’t think that’s what she was planning on dealing with.

I have never been to Australia before, but this book made me want to go even more. I think I fell in love with exploring the Outback, although I don’t know if I’d be able to handle that kind of heat. I mean I lived in Guam and it was pretty humid, but Australia is a whole different kind of beast.

The story
Evie is a Londoner travelling through the Australian outback after a bad breakup. Michael Adams is a Canadian, retired Olympic swimmer, now reality tv star fake-married to fellow star Saskia. When he outs her diet and drinking habits on social media and then flees to Australia pretending to be “Adam”, the last thing he is looking for is a travelling partner. Soon he realises that it would be a better disguise to be travelling with someone else, and he offers Evie a lift. Their epic voyage through the outback allows them to share who they are with each other and find peace in a simple existence. Except Michael hasn’t been able to tell Evie anything about who he really is.

My thoughts
I really feel like I have journeyed to the hot Australian outback while reading this lovely story! I was really rooting for Adam and Evie, and just loved how they were able to find happiness and peace with each other. So much lack of communication though 🙈 but it made sense that Adam and Evie struggled with this given their family and personal histories. It’s a real goodie!

As I read 'Her Outback Driver' I wondered why I was given this book to review. I felt it was well written, every sentence moved the story forward (I can't stand waffling authors and lose patience with their words), content was entertaining, informative and well written with good writing technique.
I have purchased many a book of a shops book-shelves that don't come anywhere near the quality of this read, either in content and style.
This was a light read, with the usual 'gotta have a twist' love story, with all the highs and lows fiction readers recognised as 'lovers' find their way from discovery to heartbreak to love.
It was interesting and informative to read about the Australian Outback in a fiction format.
Giulia Skye has written a great story that is entertaining and one which should be published in hard copy and sold throughout bookstores.

I LOVED this book. The first scene pulled me right in (so funny!) and I really loved both Evie and Adam as characters. Witty banter, engaging and believable characters (I'm kind of hoping they appear again in sequels), and such vivid imagery that I felt like I was traveling with them in Australia. So I definitely recommend taking a vacation from life by reading this book!

This was the perfect debut novel from Guilia Skye. Right from the get go, I fell right in step with “Adam” and his quest in trying to escape his life, instantly endearing me to his character and what he’s trying to achieve. And when he runs into Evie? That scene went down as one of the most cringe-worthy (in a good way) scenarios I’ve ever encountered, but it set the tone for the way both characters relate and identify with one another. It was with a definite bang!

When the pair are on the road, or making multiple stops along the way, it gave the reader an in-depth look into their personalities and backstories. We also got to witness majestic scenery, wild and brazen, like many of the scenes that occur between Adam and Evie, and it was all very much appreciated! Hot and steamy, just like the Australian landscape.

Paradise is tainted with much of the baggage that Adam carries along with him, and I could feel the frustration for him, and for Evie. I understood Adam’s need for anonymity, yet on the other hand I’d wanted him to live the life he really wants to live, regardless of the repercussions. That showed real character evolvement, in witnessing his need to grow up some and really decide on what (and who) is most important to him.

There were many moments that dealt with tipping scales and figuring out what’s right, for the person involved. This happened for both Adam and for Evie, and it was nice to see that as When Adam and Evie progresses. And while I’m not the one who ordinarily casts celebrities in the roles of the characters in a book, I couldn’t help but picture Michael Phelps for Adam, and Emma Watson as Evie. I thought the premise was unique and refreshing throughout, and well worth the five stars I’ve given it!

Evie and Adam meet in Australia, and she hires him to take her across the outback. She's taking a break from her real life after her relationship of 15 years falls apart. He's hiding from the entire world - his fake marriage has become just too much to bear, and he's just not happy. This is an interesting and unique story. The author's descriptions of the scenery were especially vivid - I could close my eyes and envision the locations. The characters are complicated and imperfect. They're barely acquaintances when they begin their journey, but the exchanges between them are wonderful, sometimes funny, sometimes not, always real (except for Adam's big secret). I love Evie's wit and sense of humor, but hate that she's still stuck on Zac and his new baby. While I understand the reasons for Adam's lies, it's still tough on everyone when the truth comes out, especially Evie. Adam lied to her, her father lied to her. They met some incredibly interesting people on their journey, especially Webbo and Daisy. His friends are incredible, opening their home and hearts, and Krista kicks Adam's butt when he needs it most. This is a wonderful book. I feel fortunate to have had the chance to read the first novel from this new author, and I'm looking forward to more from her.

This book was such a delightful and uplifting pleasure to read.  Visiting Australia with Adam and Evie was the perfect remedy to storm Dennis this weekend.  Lovable characters, beautiful settings, a little sauce to spice things up and voila! An addictive and lighthearted romance.

I devoured this book from beginning to end and it was an absolute pleasure to read.  The writing flowed so well and the pace of the story was perfect, detailed enough to satisfy but never slow or over dwelling.

Evie was an adorable leading lady.  Down hearted and homesick but so kind and gentle.  Michael/Adam was depicted as a sensitive hunk who has just had enough of being in the limelight.  Both with their own secrets and issues, both travelling to get away from sadness they work so well together, often in hilarious misunderstandings.  From the beginning of the novel I was rooting for them as a couple.

I loved the fact this novel is set in Australia.  I read many books set in Europe, U.S.A. or England and it was so much fun 'travelling' somewhere different.

A really fun romance novel.

When Adam Met Evie is the first book in the Take a Holiday series and the first book I have read from this author.

I loved this story and the wonderful descriptions of the Australian outback. The characters are well developed and have past issues to overcome before either of them can find happiness again. The storyline is well written and enjoyable, with drama, deception, heartbreak, angst, and a sweet and steamy romance.

I am looking forward to reading more books by this author.

QOTD: What's the longest road trip you've been on?
My A: My husband and I drive 11.5 hours from Iowa to South Dakota this past summer!
.
As a lover of all things road trips, I of course was totally sold on a book all about two people falling I. Love while road griping across Australia. I mean... Do I really need to say anymore than that?!
.
This was an emotional book with two flawed characters who each came with their own baggage to work through. This is an opposites attract romance with Adam (Michael) being a total grump and Evie being a ball of sunshine. Of course the Australian setting is just the cherry on top. I found myself googling all the places mention so I could get the mental image just right. Let me tell you, it's even more beautiful than you think and I highly rec5 doing that!
.

Welcome to my spot on the When Adam Met Evie blog tour.  This story takes us on a lovely outback adventure in Australia with two unlikely strangers running from their lives. One to get away from the limelight; the other to mend a broken heart.

Michael "Adam" Adams, former Olympic gold medalist swimmer and media darling is fed up with his fake marriage. After a scuffle with a reporter and honest and unkind Twitter feed about his alcoholic fake wife, he flees Canada for Australia to visit some friends. On the way, he meets a very chatty and cute, Evelyn "Evie" Blake from England, who is on vacation in Australia and offers him money to drive her to scenic parts of the country that are off the beaten path. A perfect opportunity for him to hide out from the media, but he's finding it harder to keep his secrets from someone he is starting to care about?

"Adam" and Evie's relationship starts slowly with Adam's broody silence and Evie's insecurities, but her bubbly and friendly personality surprisingly wins him over. I loved Evie's sincerity and love for life, but I found it hard at first to like "Adam" with his uncertainty and exasperating subterfuge. However, he finally comes around with a sweet ending.

Overall, this was a nice romance with a slow build to the inevitable train wreck when the secret is revealed and the lovers need to figure out how to turn their lives around.  If you like a light rom-com with adventure, give this book a try.

Thank you to Ms. Skye for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.

Michael Adams has found himself in the Australian outback, having escaped the media after he insulted his wife, whom he married solely to reinvent himself after a successful career as an Olympic swimmer. Desperate to escape the scandal and to experience ordinary life again, he decides to become ‘Adam’ and travel through the remote Kimberley region in his truck. When he meets British backpacker Evie Blake, he finds his perfect disguise. Evie believes that the gorgeous Canadian gives her the perfect chance to travel and to mend her broken heart, having broken up with her partner of 15 years. As they spend more time together, Adam begins to wonder if he can keep his secret from Evie, or whether she will discover who he really is.
This was a couple who at first seem too at odds to have any chance of having a successful relationship. Adam seems so lost and hides behind the lies that are seemingly endless. Evie seems to be stuck in her past with Zac and is frustrated with Adam’s lack of direction. Yet as the story progresses, Adam makes Evie feel special, having lost her confidence with her relationship breakup. Evie makes Adam feel that his future ambitions are possible and that he is loved. Combined with the breathtaking scenery of the Australian outback, this is a romance that had me captivated. I also loved the epilogue and was thrilled to see the next few chapters of a new book in this series. The author weaves in a taboo topic in a sensitive manner, making for a more thought-provoking novel. This is an author I will definitely be following from now on.

[I was given a free copy of the book by the author in exchange for a review through Voracious Readers Only]

I enjoyed this book so much more than I thought I would! It's engrossing right from the very first chapter as we meet Adam on the run from the fallout of a brand-driven sham marriage gone awry. After meeting Evie in the most hilariously awkward way possible, the two embark on a adventure around Western Australia with Evie just trying to forget her messy breakup back home and Adam struggling to keep up a façade of normalcy, especially as the stakes of having his true identity revealed increase dramatically. I could hardly put the book down so I could find out what would happen next! All of the characters feel like real people and the way that Adam and Evie's relationship develop is completely believable. Skye's writing style has the perfect amount of detail to carry the plot along while immersing the reader in the story's exotic and remote Australian setting. Her previous experience working in television is not surprising given her evident talent for storytelling and writing dialogue. This was a great escapist romance novel and I would definitely recommend for any fan of the genre.

I loved both Evie and Adam (as well as the play on Adam and Eve, both title and story wise!)...as well as many of their friends/family! Evie lived with her whole heart, even after getting it stomped upon a time or two. She just couldn't help it! It wasn't in her to get THAT close to someone and not want the relationship to be more than simply passing. Her desires and dreams, planned destinations and eventual rerouting of her destiny, all felt genuine, tangible, and real. Even Adam with his grand escape, psycho relations (both business and personal), and lack of direction in his current hour of need, all reverberated with depth, strength of connection, and a desire to be more...even if he claimed to just go with the wind. Together, they help rediscover the grandness in life, and rebuild their stricken hearts to uncover a chance to not only start again, but to LOVE again.

Loved the premise of the story. Two unusual travel companions – one hiding the real reason that he is on the road.

I liked the way they observed each other and the slow unfolding romance in the first half of the book. The descriptions of his relationship with Saskia were also revealing,

‘Living with Saskia had been like stepping barefoot over broken glass, awkward and prickly, and his childhood home with his father, though comfortable enough, had neve been filled with bear hugs and sweet goodnight kisses.

I enjoyed travelling with them to camping grounds – and the people they met. So many relatable stories, particularly for those who’ve gone backpacking around Australia.

It’s a bumpy road to their HEA, but the journey is well described.

A truly great way to introduce us, readers, into Skye's writing style. It realistic even if a bit fantastic, emotional, with tension, some drama, and twist that makes it a really captivating tale about Adam (Micheal) and Evie.

You are invited to take a break from everyday life and escape to Australia along with Adam and Evie and it certainly is a refreshing read. You follow their stories through both their perspectives, which is a format I like, so you can see what is in both their thoughts. The settings sound fantastic as they travel off the beaten track and they meet some colourful characters along the way.

Evie cannot abide being lied to. Adam is hiding all sorts of secrets. You just know that this is going to lead to angst and drama. As Adam's web of lies gets more and more complicated, you realise that they both have a lot to lose. I do feel that the plotting in this book is a strength and there are no unexplained threads or questions which remain unanswered. Consequently, it is an enjoyable read with some interesting characters who you get to know and like.

In short: A journey of a lifetime.

There is so much great about this story, I don’t even know where to begin.

Road trip — beautifully broken characters — compelling story…

… all against the backdrop of the gorgeous Australian outback and ending ‘married with children.’

On her website the author shares photos from her own road trip and her experience is tangible in the description of the scenery, events, and the colorful people they meet.

I fell for Evie and ‘Adam’ and I felt for them. A glorious ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️-star read, indeed!

Michael is an Canadian ex Olympian running from the consequences of fame, Evie is a British woman blindsided by an ex. They both end up in an Australia campground. However when Michael meets Evie, he portrays himself as Adam, a drifter in order to conceal his identity and so she hires him to be her driver.
This was an easy to follow, light-hearted read. The pace could have travelled quite a bit faster but wasn’t overly wordy. The characters were likeable and their feelings of betrayal were believable. Overall it was a pleasant read. I received a free copy of this book from Voracious Readers in exchange for an honest review.

Such a good read! Different than the usual romcoms I read, but it was a great romance novel. the characters could not be more different and from different parts of the world but somehow meet in Australia as they are running away from issues at home. It was a bit slow at the beginning but then it got good. def check this one out!

I enjoyed the storyline and the characters were fun.
I loved being taken on a trip around the world, but especially seeing what it’s like to tour northern Australia.
It’s amazing what you go through for love.
I received an arc copy of this book in exchange for my voluntary and honest opinion.
