How Not to Date a Rock Star

Rate this book

I want him. But he’s a rock star, and any kind of real relationship would be too risky, too bound to end in heartache.

When Maya Parker’s friends drag her to an Accidental Erotica concert, she’s surprised to receive a backstage pass from famous punk rock star Kevin Collins. While her friends are eager to attend the after-party and hook up with the band members, Maya can’t help but feel skeptical. Kevin is cute and all, but Maya isn’t about to join the harem of Accidental Erotica groupies.

At the party, Maya and Kevin hit it off and end up sitting and talking late into the night about everything from rock star life to their favorite horror movies. Kevin is much more down to earth than Maya thought, but the more she starts to like him, the more worried she is that dating a rock star would only end in heartbreak. Ever practical, Maya heads home thinking she'll never hear from him again.

When Kevin calls her from the airport the next day, Maya falls into a long-distance friendship she never expected. She’s rapidly falling for Kevin, but with them living states apart, could it ever work? Maya's not ready to make the leap into dating a guy who’s constantly on tour and surrounded by groupies—

But she’s also not sure she can bring herself to let him go.

How Not to Date a Rock Star is a standalone romance novella with no cliffhanger, no cheating, and a swoon-worthy Happily Ever After. It can be read independently of the first books, though a character from book two appears as a side character. There is some R-rated sexual content and language.

A cute rockstar romance story where the MCs meet at the hero’s show! It was a sweet friends to lovers, slow burn romance that was a fast read, a bit angsty and just really cute!

I immediately adored the hero, Kevin, he was not your typical rockstar and I adored that he and our heroine, Maya, connected so deeply and quickly. I love when the MCs get to form a strong, beautiful friendship before it develops into more. And these two sure did.

Maya, well, she pissed me off a little bit because I just didn’t understand her reluctance after all that time they had been talking and sharing everything except for details about their love life. That side of their relationship I did not get but it all played a part in the development of the story and their relationship and it all worked itself out in the end.

How not to date a rock star tells the story of Maya, an ordinary girl, and Kevin, a rock star. Fate seems to have brought them together after Maya's friends bring her along to one of the concerts. Sparks fly when Kevin invites Maya and her friends to the after party. There's only one problem, she doesn't want to date a rock star who is touring all the time. They decide to be just long-distance friends.
Like all the books in this series, I absolutely loved it! The story is very well written, with some plot twists and many sweet, and sometimes sad, moments. I really loved the characters! What I also liked in this book is that the characters deal with some issues and it brings some awareness. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves to read romance.

With a passion for science, coping with chronic fatigue, thus preferring nights in versus out, Maya is roped into celebrating her birthday at a punk rock concert with her two girlfriends. The band’s guitarist Kevin spots Maya in the front row as not your typical topless groupie, inviting her backstage, and neither of them expect to hit it off. Their long-distance friendship evolves into more, but how would it all work out?

What a cute, short and sweet celebrity romance! I particularly liked that despite being a novella, I saw some character development, and the mention of race, black women in STEM, and biracial couples made the story a little less cliché. Though most of it felt more YA, there was one perfectly placed sexy scene. If you’re in the mood for something quick to break up all the heavier reads or simply need an ARC break like me, then check this one out on KU!

Ooops........I think they were dating all along!!!

So how exactly do you date a Rock Star. Well in How Not to Date a Rock Star, the eighth book in The Extra Series series, Maya get to find out. Luckily the reader gets to go along on her journey with Kevin.
Maya Parker is celebrating her birthday at a concert with her two best friends. The guitarist, Kevin Collins, spots her from the stage and ends up sending a roadie to her with a note. It seems she may get an extra surprise for her birthday this year when she and her friends go backstage. There is an instant attraction and chemistry sparking between them. But she is not the type to go for a one night and can't believe that he would be good "relationship material". So instead she decides they can be friends, which he accepts for now. Over the next several months they text back and forth and skype with each other as their friendship grows. But over time they finally cannot deny that they don't just love each other they are in love with each other. It seems that Maya may not have wanted to date a Rock Star but she has been doing it all along.

This is a funny, laugh out loud, sweet, engaging and very entertaining story. Maya and Kevin are wonderful as they fumble their way to not dating, but dating without even realizing it.

Maya meets Kevin at one of his shows, and there's an instant attraction. But Kevin is a rockstar and Maya, well, she's not into dating rock stars, or doing long distance. She suffers from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, and that involves a lot of resting. The one thing not resting? Her heart on the daily phone calls with Kevin. But they're best friends, and that's the way they need to keep it.

Eek! I love this series, and this one is a fantastic addition that packs a punch in a perfect sized novella. In a seamless blend of romance and laugh out loud comedy, this duo once again delivers a super fun read just in time for summer. I'm hoping through their distant relationship to the main couples in this series, that we haven't seen the last of Maya and Kevin. Wonderful job!

This is another winner in the series this time it's one of the infamous Shane's band members Kevin. While not the true rockstar bad boy he stays true to his band. However he's a bit over the lifestyle & seeks something more. Eying Maya at a concert he asks her backstage for the after party.
They instantly connect but more on a friendship basis. Maya is a student with issues causing her some grief in her life. They both have to deal with their problems. But will they become more than friends?
This is a HFN. I'm hoping to hear more from this couple in future stories.

"But for the first time, the unknown doesn’t seem like such a scary thing."

8 books into this series and it just keeps getting better.

I LOVE that Janci and Megan are taking us through the lives of everyone involved with everyone... (The continuing stories of people introduced in the first book)

It's so true how closely connected we are (think the 7 degrees of Kevin Bacon).

And a common theme throughout all the books thus far, is being brave enough to be vulnerable, and being completely honest with the one you love, willing to risk it all, because that person is worth it.

So excited to read #9!

She was already jaded and not the type to even go to a concert. She was wrong this time. She enjoyed herself and was actually surprised that he was truly a gentleman. She was also scared to put it on the line for the right person. If he was willing to do what he needed to have her, why couldn't she? Delaying happiness is wrong when you you already feel right about it. She knew what she needed to do as soon as it hit her.

This was a cute love story. Maya Parker is celebrating her birthday at a punk rock concert with her two friends. Kevin Collins is a guitarist for the band. He notices her and sends a note to invite her and her friends backstage. They meet, are attracted to each other, but she initially friend zones him because she doesn't think a relationship will work. They spend months texting and skyping and become best friends. They eventually realize they love each other and get their HEA.

Another (Extra) great story! This time the focus is a bit shifted but we still get glimpses of the first characters we have been acquainted with in the first books. And this new angle is just another piece of the great puzzle of the lives of those amazing characters. It talks about friendships, loving every facts of someone and compromising to get what is really important.

This book was pretty good but I think the novella length was not long enough to tell the full story. I really liked the characters but something was missing.
