Internal Tech Conferences

Internal tech conferences can make a significant impact on an organisation's level of sharing, learning, and communication by accelerating multi-team learning across technology departments. An increasing number of enlightened organisations are using this powerful approach to spread and embed new ideas and practices.

In this book we share practical advice on how to prepare, run, and follow-up on an internal tech conference, together with some case studies from several organisations showing the approaches in common and the adaptations for each situation.

Good, practical advice on promoting, preparing, managing, and following up a variety of conference types, with personal insight on real case studies. Written in plain English, I felt compelled to scribble down tips throughout. Not only were my questions answered and fears (mostly!) allayed, but unexpectedly I found the motivation to extend my ambitions, and explore the different purposes and techniques clearly examined, applying them to opportunities in my own career that I had not considered. For that reason I now rate this as one of the luckier finds on my bookshelf.

Works as advertised. Very niche book, but it's a quick read.

If you're planning to host a mid-size to large internal conference then this is a very nice reference to have on hand!

Contains tips and tricks for event preparation, things to think about during the event itself and follow-up.

The book concludes with several use-cases from tech organizations and collects useful checklists you can build your own runbook from.
