The Quran: English translation

Rate this book
The Quran, a book which brings glad tidings to mankind along with divine admonition, stresses the importance of man's discovery of truth on both spiritual and intellectual planes. Every book has its objective and the objective of the Quran is to make man aware of the Creation plan of God. That is, to tell man why God created this world; what the purpose is of settling man on earth; what is required from man in his pre-death life span, and what he is going to confront after death. The purpose of the Quran is to make man aware of this reality, thus serving to guide man on his entire journey through life into the after-life. The main themes of the Quran are enlightenment, closeness to God, peace and spirituality. The Quran uses several terms, tawassum, tadabbur, and tafakkur, which indicate the learning of lessons through reflection, thinking and contemplation on the signs of God scattered across the world. The present translation of the Quran and its explanatory notes are written keeping in mind these very themes.

Today, I completed reading the Quran with meaning, and I can confidently say that this 16-day journey has been the most profound reading experience of my life. Unlike any other book, the Quran is not just a text—it is guidance, wisdom, and light. It felt less like reading and more like a life-changing dialogue with the Divine.

What struck me most is how the Quran covers every aspect of human existence. From personal growth to social justice, from spiritual nourishment to practical living, it truly serves as the ultimate self-help book for humanity. Everyone should experience reading it with understanding at least once in their lifetime—it changes how you see the world and yourself.

The Quran describes itself in powerful ways:

1. A Clear Book & Manifest Light: A source of undeniable truth and clarity, free from doubt.

2. Divine Revelation: The literal word of God, preserved and protected through time.

3. Furqan (Criterion): A guide to distinguish right from wrong and truth from falsehood.

4. A Blessed Book: Bringing glad tidings, wisdom, and guidance to those who reflect.

5. Comprehensive Guide: Covering creation, the afterlife, and the code of conduct for a meaningful life.

Reading the Quran with meaning is not just about spiritual connection—it is nourishment for the soul. It motivates, inspires, and uplifts. It gives you perspective on life’s challenges, encourages goodness, and reminds you of the higher purpose we are all created for.

For me, this journey has been more than just reading—it has been transformative. The Quran’s message is timeless, relevant, and deeply personal, offering both solace and strength.

The Quran is not only the greatest spiritual book but also the most complete guide to living a successful, peaceful, and purposeful life. A must-read with meaning for every human being, regardless of background.

I read somewhere that said, "It’s a shame of you to have read so many books, and yet you have not read the book of your Creator.", and really that stuck with me. I’m embarrassed to admit that it took me this long to simply read the English translations of the Qur’an, but Alhamdulillah I’m glad I did.

I started reading this last year & it’s not a surprise that I took my time to ponder over it, as one should. Ultimately, I kept in mind that any translations I read in the future will not bring justice to the words of Allah SWT, but I think it’s good to start somewhere. In the future, I also hope to attend more Tafsir lessons, as it is always better to have a teacher to guide us when we're in doubt.

I sincerely hope that this coming Ramadan will be full of love & blessings for all of us & may continue to become closer to the Qur’an & Allah SWT, inshaAllah. Amin.
