“Another life whispers to me. And sometimes, the whispers become taps on my shoulder. It feels so close and I want it so much, but it remains thin as air. My own personal haunting. A ghost of another me telling me there is another way.”
Have you ever heard the whispers of another life? Do you long for something just out of reach that you can’t describe with words?
Scarlet Stevens knows this feeling. Divorced, forty, broke and back living with her parents in her small hometown, Scarlet tries to hide her sadness from everyone. She goes to work and takes care of her children, but something inside is broken. There is no desire, just a great emptiness that she lugs around day in and day out.
All this changes when her town hosts its first Salsa Night. There she meets a handsome stranger, Esteban Vazquez, who introduces her to his world of dancing.
She begins her late night travels to the Salsa Clubs. Scarlet is lured by the Latin rhythms that promise a never-ending carnival of flashing lights, spinning girls, and attractive men. Embarking on a new journey that is exciting, frightening, and carries with it a certain guarantee of heartache and happiness, especially when she falls in love with her dance teacher.
Scarlet is me, and her journey is more or less my life. Most of the material comes from my nights out dancing for almost a decade.
Are you haunted by another life you’re meant to have? I hope that as you read each page of this book, you’ll feel my gentle encouragement. There is something more out there. Open yourself to the possibilities.
Raeshell Rozet is an urban fantasy romance author. She is best known for her Spirit and the Wolfman Series. Her books are filled with monsters, romance, and fated love.
Raeshell doesn’t write about perfect characters. She writes about flawed people who are doing the best that they can. She finds beauty and comedy in their ability to love and grow in an imperfect world. Her stories flit between reality and whatever lies just beyond.
Her educational background includes a Bachelor of Science Degree in Developmental Psychology from Eastern Washington University, which explains her lifelong passion for understanding why people do weird things.
Raeshell has two grown-up sons and a pet tortoise “Catherine the Great”. She enjoys writing while her tortoise plays in the garden, dancing when the sun goes down, and hunting through thrift stores for whatever catches her eye. Raeshell has a collection of trolls and gnomes that adorns her house all year long and dreams of living in a hobbit home one day.
Scarlet is a divorced, mother of two, living with her parents. One night she spontaneously attends Salsa Night in town and dances with Esteban. Dancing with him, she’s somehow transported to a different time, place, and life. It's an intriguing, easy read. Thank you to the author for an ebook. This is my honest review.
Scarlett is 40, mother of two boys and just divorced her ex husband. She is lost. As a gym instructor and soon-to-be-certified Personal Trainer, she takes on salsa which help her find herself again. But then she meet someone in the salsa world, Esteban, who is gorgeous but something is off about him. He is so self-centered and keeps disappointing her.
This books felt like a friend giving me her latest news: what's up with her boyfriend, how she in evolving during her salsa nights, and I keep wanting to advise her, to shake her, support her. This book is also a good guide for women getting back in the dating pool; the do's and don'ts of dating after your recent divorce. It is also filled with so many loving and caring characters. My favorite part of the book was the end, I was swooning!
Giving it a 4-star instead of a 5 because I did not click with Scarlett's main love interest, Esteban. But I loved diving into the salsa world. I am even considering taking lessons now ;-)
Thank you Goodreads and the publisher for this e-galley in exchange for my honest review.
As someone earlier noted this reads like talking to a girlfriend. About mid book I would have rated this about a three. Mostly due to Estaban's repeated and annoying, "You're not ready" It made me mad that he was so controlling. Scarlett finds true friends in Mike, Pablo, Cindy But.... the story picked up towards the end and tears flowed in the end. Two bonuses: (1) I live along the LA to Lompoc route and knew some of the places Rashell mentions. (2) my niece loves Salsa dancing. I could imagine her at these clubs and at lessons
A very well written story! Scarlet is a forty year old mother of two and recently divorced. She wants to learn Salsa dancing because it makes her smile. This story is about pushing yourself to try something out of your comfort zone. She learns many things besides dancing. Realistic but also hopeful. Highly recommend!!!
