Nota publicitaria

'Only an Earl Will Do' by Tamara Gill is book one in the "To Marry a Rogue" series. This is the story of Lady Elizabeth and Henry.
Elizabeth's father was Henry Guardian until he came of age. During the time he stayed with Elizabeth and her family they grew to care for one another. They had talked of marriage and did have 'anticipate their vows'...shortly after that Henry convinced her that it would be best that he go to America to make his fortune before he married her. Even though Henry has a Scottish Title the money with the title was gone and Henry didn't want to be taken by the town as a fortune hunter.
But shortly after he left Elizabeth found that she was pregnant. When her family sent Henry a letter who was now in America to tell him he needed to return another letter was sent back saying he would not marry her and the letter said a few hurtful things. So her family set her up to marry a man that had an accident who needed a wife to maintain his title. Now years later Henry is back in London appearing to be upset with Elizabeth for marring and not waiting for him as she promised. Elizabeth too is upset still about the letter he supposedly sent. But once they calm down enough to talk they figure out that someone interfered with their relationship and that he didn't get her letter nor did she get his...and that someone sent the first letter back to break them up. Now Elizabeth is facing another born out of the original issue. Henry son has been giving another man's name and she knows if it gets out either to him or the town her son life will be greatly hurt.
This book hooked me in fast and I could not put it down...I had to read it through the night. I love the mystery of who was behind the misunderstanding. I also liked the secondary people also in this story.
Cannot wait to read more of this series!

I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

Meh. It was alright. The hero was a sweetheart and so damn understanding after what the heroine put him through. I loved that he never wavered and stayed true to the heroine till the end even though she didn't completely deserve it.

I can usually forgive the heroine of anything because I tend to be more lenient on them but Jesus Christ I wanted to smack a bitch. It drove me insane how long it took for the secret to come out and even then she wasn't the one to do it. With how kind the hero was and the fact that he hadn't been at fault it just drove me nuts that she wasn't honest with him. At the same time I get where she was coming from but it just drove me nuts how long it took to come out.

I would have also loved to have more scenes with as the entire book revolved around him and yet he was nowhere to be found.

Truly a fantastic story! I loved Henry and Elizabeth and was rooting for them all the way through the book. They deserved an HEA. The writing was tight, concise, and kept me turning the pages. I'm afraid I neglected a lot of work to finish the book--not that I regret it.. I highly recommend Only an Earl Will Do and look forward to the next book in the series. Tamara Gill is a talented author. Read her books.

Another great Regency romance, this time with Lady Elizabeth Worthington and Henry Andrews, Earl of Muir, as the couple that others have thwarted the romance between. Can they discover who interceded to their detriment as they are reunited after three years or will their mutual enemy achieve his own dreams instead?

Orphaned, Henry had been brought up in the same household as Elizabeth because her father was his guardian. Whilst there, the two had become close, planning to marry when he returned from America where he went to make his fortune. Unfortunately, soon after he left Elizabeth discovered she was expecting his child. Letters were exchanged, urging him to return but to no avail, he’d have nothing to do with her. Fearing the scandal that would ensue, Elizabeth had married but shortly after her husband died. Now Henry has returned and claims no knowledge of any correspondence between them - and obviously is ignorant of the fact that he has a son. Now, however, an unexpected foe makes his desires known, threatening any chance of reconciliation or romance between the two. Can they overcome their past differences and reignite their romance? Will their enemy succeed in keeping them apart?

This is a story where past errors separated the lovers and her hidden pregnancy and deceptions may keep them apart for ever. Their despicable foe will stop at nothing to get Elizabeth to be his wife and the story is packed with angst and turmoil - including a carriage chase - as things come to a head. It is an action packed novel with blackmail, double dealing, deception and love interwoven into a brilliant novel to start a new series. I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys historical romances where the power of love is tested and proves victorious over the nefarious schemes endeavouring to thwart it.

**This is a DNF review**

I didn't like any of the characters in this story. The heroine, Elizabeth, was insipid and not very bright. I wouldn't say she was stupid. She was going to make all of the wrong decisions and I didn't understand her reasoning for them. She doesn't want to tell the hero that he has a kid because she wants the kid to inherit the title of her deceased husband. But the hero is rich and titled so who cares? She didn't love her deceased husband soooooo.... why all the secrecy?

The hero was okay but he was fighting an uphill battle. He wasn't interesting enough to keep me reading though.

I could tell after the first few chapters that this was going to be the kind of story where everyone keeps all the secrets from each other, when in real life, everyone would know that talking would solve all the problems in about 10 minutes. I just really dislike the miscommunication-complicates-everything story line. Readers who DO like that kind of story should definitely give this book a chance. It wasn't for me though and I couldn't get past about 35%.

Elizabeth Worthingham and Henry Andrews were wildly in love and she promised to wait for him to come back from his quest in America to bring back a fortune to secure his family home and then they would marry. However, things did not go quite as they planned while Henry was gone and when he returns two years later he finds her a widow and he a not-so-welcome visitor. But Henry has no idea what he did or what happened and Elizabeth isn’t telling. Henry is insistent to find out and to win her back, so what will it take and how will he react when he finds out what Elizabeth is hiding? Will their love survive?

There were a lot of elements to this story that made it more complex than many romance stories I typically read. There is the rekindling of the relationship between Henry and Elizabeth, there is the element of Elizabeth trying to keep Henry from finding out the secret, and then there is an element of blackmail and how to escape from the blackmail. Each of these elements layers on top of the others and together builds depth to this story. The relationship between Henry and Elizabeth I enjoyed through all of its twists and turns, deceptions, and whirlwind romantic moments. While you can surmise from the beginning how the end will turn out there are certainly moments throughout that make you question that notion. The blackmail storyline was good, if a little contrived. I feel like the character had to go through more work than would have been necessary or likely to blackmail the target and to foil the plan seemed a touch too easy and a little bit of a letdown; I wanted a little more drama here and this was one of the factors that brought my review down by 1 star.

There were some detailed romantic scenes – you certainly get a visual, but I didn’t get that creepy, voyeuristic feel that you sometimes can. There are not many of these scenes and it’s definitely in the later portion of the book. I felt that they were well used to increase the confusion for the heroine regarding keeping or telling her secret as well as committing the reader to their relationship – so they didn’t feel like gratuitous sex scenes, but I don’t think it would have been the same story without them.

As for the characters, I go back and forth as to how I felt about them. I liked Henry better of the two main characters. He was loyal and his confusion regarding his lack of welcome from Elizabeth was entirely understandable. He loves her and does everything he can to win her back. Elizabeth is her own worst enemy. Her lies (never mind her terrible ability to lie) have her constantly running in circles. I understand why she made the choices she did, but once they were able to determine what led them to that situation, she just kept making it worse instead of coming clean much earlier in the novel. I wanted to yell at her so many times. Elizabeth has several family members that have a certain amount of influence in the story, but I only feel that her brother had enough characterization to him to stand out. One of her sisters makes a big move during the height of the drama and I think we are supposed to see her as a sort of “modern woman” given that she has taken to wearing men’s pants and all, but I would have liked to have a little more to her. So basically, the two main characters and our blackmailer were well drawn, but the peripheral characters could have used a bit of a boost.

Overall, I enjoyed the story presented here and I will be interested in reading additional entries in this series. I am not sure if the subsequent books will follow the same characters, if they will become peripheral characters in another couple’s storyline, or if it will be entirely unrelated.

A copy of this book was received in exchange for an honest review; all thoughts and opinions are my own. This review was previously posted at The Maiden's Court blog.

This is a Honest review for Netgalley!!

Only and Earl Will do was a Very Good story. I just loved the storyline. It had everything a lost love, a secret pregnancy, betrayal and a stalker villain. Beautifully written H/H!!! both of them were loveable and interesting.

The improvised Earl of Muir, Henry must leave England and go to American to build his fortune. He must leave the Love of his Life Elizabeth the daughter of the Duke of Pinworth behind. With a promise he would return and marry her. What Henry doesn't know is Elizabeth is pregnant with his child.

Elizabeth must marry or face ruin for her and her family. She has not gotten a response from Henry from the letter her father sent him to return to England. Elizabeth marries Lord Newland a Viscount. Newland had fallen off his horse a few years ago leaving him a simpleton. No one would consider marrying him because of his mental state.

I like the fact that Newland new that Elizabeth was pregnant with someone else child. There were not lies there and he was kind and loving to her an her son Sebastian. Newland dies a year into there marriage. I think! one of the problems with the story, that needs tweaking. The time line is a bit confusing at times. I am sure that will be fixed by the editor before the story is released. The story opens with Henry returning after 2 years in American, but then later in the book he says he has been working hard in America for 3 years. Sebastian is mention as a 2 year old which would be impossible if conceived 2 years ago. It take 9 months to carry a baby to term. So Sebastian should be about a little over 1 years old. Also, It is implied in one scene in the book that Elizabeth was sexual intimate with her husband Newland, but later in the story she said he couldn't perform the sex act because of his back and the injury from the fall off the horse. This scenario makes more sense, it creeps me out to think she had sex with a person who had mental impairments. But I like the way Newland was written.

Of course there is a Stalker Villain who is the cause of the problems between Henry and Elizabeth. I think he got off to easy in the end. I wanted him to suffer more for all the harm and hurt he has done.

Although Sebastian is a baby I still wanted him to be more prevalent in the storyline. Elizabeth leaves him far to long. It took far to long for Henry to find out the truth about his son. I would have loved to see more interaction with Henry and his son Sebastian. Babies and children always make a story more enjoyable.

However, with all the problems with the story, I Loved It!! and this version is the unedited version from Netgalley!! This is the perfect storyline. With that kind of love and romance that makes you feel go after you read it. I might also add this is a fast paced story. Everything moves quickly. I couldn't put it down.

I Highly Recommend Only an Earl Will Do. I intend on buying an re reading the final copy when it is released!!

Disappointing compared to author's other books

Liked other books by author. Not this one.
Plot was weak. The heroine's character, inconsistent. Dialogue was often stilted and boring. I lost interest by chapter six.
Editing errors were were significant. Phrasing and punctuation problems clouded intended meaning at times.

"Kicked to the curb"... a common British phrase in 1805? Did curbs exist in Regency England?

Lady Elizabeth Worthingham the daughter of the Duke of Pemworth, had her future set out for her. Marry well, and marry without love until she found herself pregnant & Henry Andrews, Earl of Muir has gone to America to make his fortune in order to save his earldom from ruin. Henry isn’t answering her letters so she marries Lord Newland. Returning to England after three years abroad, Henry is determined to make the only woman who captured his heart his wife. But the icy reception he receives from Elizabeth is colder than his home in the Scottish highlands.
A lovely novel Henry & Elizabeth have always loved each other but misunderstandings & secrets threaten to come between them. There’s also the dastardly Marquis with his own agenda. The pace of the book is very good & I was hooked from the beginning. Although I really liked Henry there were times when I could have shaken Elizabeth. I love the author’s books & this disappoint, a page turning lovely read

ARC Review: Only an Earl Will Do (To Marry A Rogue) by Tamara Gill

Elizabeth has faced her share of heartache and shame in the name of love. Now she is determined to redeem herself and spare her heart by entering into a marriage of convenience. There's just one problem. The man who destroyed her hopes and dreams has returned to lay claim to what he left behind. Her! Only an Earl will do is steamy battle of wills that had me on the edge of my seat and praying for a reconciliation. It's emotional, playful and excellently crafted.

Mixed bag here for me today: reunion tropes I don’t dislike, but anything that mentions, uses or adds a secret baby to the mix is simply my kryptonite. That being said, the multiple elements and convenient resolutions were a bit formulaic for me, although I was curious to see just what would shake out after reading.

My first issue was with the glaring grammatical error in the blurb – “who’s” is the contraction of who is, where “whose” is the proper form to indicate possession. That aside, I was reading an eArc version of the story, so I hope that the grammatical errors in the text have been corrected prior to release. Now, editor hat off – and on to the story

Growing up in the same household, Elizabeth and Henry were friendly, and as they aged, they fell in love. She’s made a wonderful splash in society, but time in the Americas was Henry’s plans, as he needed to make a fortune to assure their future. What neither knew was Elizabeth was pregnant and on the verge of ruin after he left.

Elizabeth was likable, and her honesty with the husband she had to marry to give her child a name was admirable. In truth, neither she nor Henry were particularly thoughtful before her pregnancy, and that element will be picked up again later. A reasonably happy marriage despite circumstances is Elizabeth’s life until her husband passes. Now widowed, with years passed, Henry returns.

Of course, the post and failed letters back and fro across the Atlantic left both feeling bereft and betrayed. It just took far too long for them to discover that fact, discuss things rationally and openly and move on. Of course, an obsessed Lord is stepping in to do everything possible to keep them apart - so that did play in. But they do find solutions to the issues.

Too many elements – back history for sisters that drops in as hints, moments of intimacy with Elizabeth and her first husband with later passages talking of his impotency, other bits of back and forth that just didn’t add to the story in any meaningful way, added to my bone-deep dislike of secret baby tropes and a rather belated reveal on that front left me overall rather meh about this title, and not sure that I will continue the series. Not great, not horrid – just a middle of the road read that could have been wonderful with more direction and focus.

I received an eArc copy of the title from the publisher via NetGalley for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

This is one of those book which draw you in right from the beginning and you simple can't help but fall in love with the story. Lady Elizabeth and Henry both are interesting characters. And they fit together perfectly. It is a must read historical romance which I'd recommend to all those who enjoy historical fiction.

Henry left for America in search of his Uncle and a fortune to save his estate. He wants to be rich before he proposes to Lady Elizabeth. He doesn't want her money to save him. It is important to him and he thinks that Elizabeth understands. But apparently she couldn't wait to get married. It took her only a short time to find herself a groom. Now that Henry is back he has no idea how to deal with this new situation. On one hand he still loves her but on the other hand he feels betrayed....

Elizabeth cannot believe that Henry still wants to be reacquainted after the way he had treated her in the past. Leaving her behind and refusing to marry her. She hates him and doesn't feel like forgiving him any time soon...

But the more they talked the more is revealed. They have both been played. There is someone else who has wronged them both. Henry is determined to find out who because no matter how hard he tries he still loves her and wants her to forgive him so that they can be together again...

What he doesn't know is one secret she is keeping from him. That one secret might ruin any chance they have to be together, for good. Right now he is trying to redeem himself but when the truth unravels will he be able to forgive her?

It's an intriguing story about romance, betrayal. and second chance love. I found it quite entertaining and hope that other readers do too.
Happy reading! :)

Normally, I am not a fan of a reunion story, but this one worked for me. Elizabeth and Henry grew up together and have loved each other since they were children. They shared one passionate encounter together and promised to wait for each other while Henry went to America to make his fortune.
Here comes the problem, their one encounter left Elizabeth pregnant. She confessed to her family and they wrote Henry, begging him to return and marry her. Henry and his uncle sent a scathing reply, he would not return, she was little better than a strumpet and they would never marry. Elizabeth did what she had to do, marry another man to give a name to her child.
Three years later Henry returns, he has made his fortune and learns that Elizabeth is now a widow. But he doesn't understand the animosity or the hatred directed his way. She married another man, even after she promised to wait for him.
Maybe there is more than meets the eye to their estrangement? Will they be able to find out what happened, and if they do can they forgive each other?
This was a great story, passionate, but not too steamy. As a reader though, I sometimes felt like I was reading a second book in a series, there was a backstory about Elizabeth's sisters that we were given hints to, but nothing concrete. These hints left me more confused than interested in her sisters' story.
I did want them to talk to each other and I don't want to spoil the story, but Elizabeth makes a monumental decision that I hated. The love between these two is very sweet and makes for great reading!

The book starts off with Elizabeth being quite ruined. Not much history is given on the initial relationship between Henry & Elizabeth other than she ended up being pregnant while he went off to make his fortune after they promise themselves to each other. She to wait & he to return. When Elizabeth's predicament is apparent, a letter to Henry receives a terse, unsavoury reply renouncing her as a harlot for giving away her virtue. To save the family from scandal, Elizabeth is married off to a kind but slightly simple Viscount to give her child legitimacy.

Fast forward a few 2 years later with Elizabeth a widow attending the season in London.

I could not warn up to the heroine at all. Why would she even be in London attending the season when she has no interest – supposedly quite the opposite – in remarrying and definitely not in having an affair. Leaving her 2 year old son in their country estate? What mother would do something like that? Given that she knows very well that her mother is amenable, if not pushing her to accept the suit of a man she supposedly abhors. Yet she wears his posy (flowers) not once but twice? There were so many things, some small incidences, some not, that I found myself impatient to the point of dislike of the heroine’s character.

The hero is slightly better - loyal & steadfast to his love for Elizabeth but darn obtuse & irresponsible for not considering the consequences of having sex. Honestly.

I struggled through a few chapters and then gave up.

“Only an Earl Will Do” is the first book in the "To Marry a Rogue" series.

Pacing was slow, but Tamara’s writing was good so I kept reading. I loved the secondary characters and the chemistry between Elizabeth and Henry.

The main reason why I didn’t enjoy this more is because of the tropes in it. Secret baby, second-chance, and miscommunication between hero and heroine. It was just too much, and I’m not a big fan of any.

Only an Earl Will Do could have been an amazing book with more focus on the main characters. I’ll read the next book in the series since I had fin reading about Elizabeth’s siblings. I hope their books will be great!

Lady Elizabeth is in love with Henry Andrews the Earl of Muir and their love has borne fruit but unfortunately for Elizabeth she's left alone to deal with her ruin - Henry has gone to America to make his fortune! Disregarding the summons from the Duke of Penworth's her father to make haste to come back and marry Elizabeth, his uncle writes back stating he'd never marry a strumpet! Signed by Andrew, Elizabeth is devastated.
In dire in need of a husband Elizabeth marries Marcus Viscount Newland.
Marcus accepts the child as his but dies and leaves her a wealthy young widow.
Henry not realizing what has happened or that he has a son, the turn of events that transpired have Henry believing there's more to what Elizabeth isn't telling him. Can they get passed the hurt of the past and salvage a future? Will their enemy succeed to forever drive them apart?

A true action packed emotional story! Doesn't get any better you have a dash of blackmail a pinch of evilness and a large dose of pure romance! Tamara Gill knocked it out of the ball park!

Okay, every once in a while, I have to stop my murder mysteries and go back to my historical romances for a minute. AND a minute is about all I can stand. I always forget what stupid decisions and ideas authors have the heroines make. It was hard to like Elizabeth at times. I mean, her idea of marrying Henry but never telling him that Samuel was his son was the stupidest thing ever.

The only reason I finished this book was to find out what happened between Riddledale, Henry, Elizabeth and Josh (Elizabeth’s brother, who was also a Duke.) Riddledale’s craziness was what made this worth reading.

There were two sex scenes in this and the first one was in the most ridiculous place ever and the second one was just too damn long. I thought I’d never get through skimming pages before I reached the end. There was no swearing to speak of.

As to the narration: Actually, the main reason I bought this in the first place was because Stevie Zimmerman was narrating. Her voices and emotions when she read are awesome.

Started out well, but then I just started skimming. It was taking too long to move the plot along. I guess this was just not for me. Big misunderstanding, smart people making dumb decisions, too many villains, and the couple was separated for too long after the 3rd act break up. Also a kidnapping finale. I just couldn’t care what happened after that. I personally wouldn’t trust a man who came back a month later saying he wanted to get back together. No thanks.

Lady Elizabeth Worthingham is in love. As soon as her beloved, Henry, returns from making his fortune in America, they’ll be wed. But soon Elizabeth discovers she is pregnant. After notifying Henry, she receives a letter from him stating that he will not marry her. Needing to marry quickly to avoid ruin, her family arranges a marriage for her. Knowing her child needs a father, she agrees but vows that she will never forgive Henry. Curse anyone who mentions the name Henry Andrews, Lord Muir to her again.
After 3 years building his fortune, Henry Andrews returns home eager to make Elizabeth his. But neither Elizabeth nor her family are happy to see him. Faced with deceitfulness and trickery, they work to re-establish their friendship, but an unidentified adversary threatens to destroy them.

What a wonderful story by new to me author Tamara Gill. It has all the elements of a great romance- separated lovers, hidden pregnancy, deception, and one of the smarmiest villains I’ve ever read. I couldn’t help but root for Elizabeth and Henry. Henry was such a good guy. Deeply in love with Elizabeth, he wanted to come to her as a man able to support a family. He refused to live off her dowry. Elizabeth was also madly in love with Henry. So in love, that she gave herself to him before he left for America, knowing that he would come back to her as soon as possible. Unfortunately, Elizabeth received Henry’s letter of refusal after she notified him of their child. As for Henry, he’d sent several letters. All unanswered. The only missive he received was one informing him of Elizabeth’s upcoming marriage. Both were understandably angry and hurt. Who would have written the letters and why? Though they each tried to fight it, it didn’t take long for the feelings they’d had before to rekindle. Elizabeth felt happy and alive again in Henry’s presence and Henry knew Elizabeth was too young to give up on life and not love as he knew she was capable of loving. He yearned to make her his again. Can they bond together to fight this unnamed opponent who is intent on destroying their future? Or will their enemy succeed again in stealing their happiness from them?
Without giving away any spoilers, I have to say kudos to Ms. Gill for her excellent handling of the secret baby trope. I thought I would dislike Elizabeth for trying to hide Henry’s child from him but Ms. Gill did an exceptional job of portraying the dilemma Elizabeth found herself in- a woman truly stuck between a rock and a hard place. This is the first in Tamara Gill’s To Marry a Rogue series. I am so excited to be starting this series and I look forward to what’s next. I’m hoping it’s the story of Elizabeth’s sister Victoria. You will love this story where two people, empowered by love, can overcome any obstacle. I was given an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Lady Elizabeth Worthingham has a secret. She fell in love with Henry Andrews, Earl of Muir and they anticipated a wedding night before Henry left London to go to America to build a fortune. Once Henry was gone, she found out she had another secret to keep – she was with child. Her father, the Duke of Penworth wrote to Henry in America asking him to return home immediately. The return response that they received was anything but expected – signed by Henry and his uncle the letter called her a strumpet and his uncle said he would never let his nephew marry her.
Her parents’ solution, she would marry the Marcus, the Viscount Newland. He had a riding accident as a child and it left him “simple minded” and without marriage prospects. Elizabeth and Marcus agree to be married and he fell in love with baby Samuel as soon as he was born. He was happy to raise the boy as his child and heir. Unfortunately, Marcus died leaving Elizabeth a young widow who was happily well off and not needing to remarry.
Back in London for the Season, Lord Muir has returned from America and can only think about marrying the girl he left behind. He couldn’t understand why she hadn’t written or answered any of the letters he sent but he still loved her. Also in London is one of their neighbors, Marquis Riddledale and he is obsessed with marrying Elizabeth; so obsessed that he will go to the trouble of blackmailing her family when compliments and flowers don’t appear to be working.
Elizabeth and Henry quickly find that someone had intercepted their letters and written the false letter that set her marriage in motion. While they try to find out who (ultimately they learn it was Lord Riddledale) they become close again. There is only one secret between them – Elizabeth hasn’t told Henry about her (and his) son, Samuel.
As the two struggle to defeat Lord Riddledale and recapture the love they once had, the whole Worthingham family is drawn into the plans to be rid of Riddledale once and for all. Unfortunately, as he becomes more desparate, he becomes more dangerous. Will Elizabeth be forced to marry him or will she finally find her happily ever after with Henry. I will leave that to the reader to find out.
I received an advanced copy of this book in return for an honest review. I enjoyed the story but did have a problem with the timeline. Henry was gone 2 years. In that time, Elizabeth found out she was pregnant, married, had the baby, became a widow and is already out of mourning (I assume since she is in London for the season). There were also some formatting issues that I assume will be corrected before the final printing. Neither of these issue was enough for me to reduce my rating.

England - 1805

Lady Elizabeth Worthingham is the eldest daughter of the Duke and Duchess of Penworth and is pregnant with the child of Henry Andrews, the Earl of Muir. Henry had once been the ward of the Duke of Penworth. An old rivalry between the Duke and Henry’s uncle has resulted in Henry being sent to America and not being allowed to marry Elizabeth. Her parents worry that when this situation is discovered, Elizabeth and her sisters will be ruined. Henry had sworn that he will return for Elizabeth when he has earned enough money to save his estate. Monies were squandered by his grandfather from gambling. Even though Elizabeth wrote Henry about her condition, she has never heard from him. Therefore, she thinks that everything he had said to her were just lies. Elizabeth’s parents are anxious for her to marry Viscount Marcus Newland. He had been left somewhat brain damaged after a fall from his horse and no other woman will have him. So, Elizabeth agrees.

London - 1807

Elizabeth is now a widow and many men are anxious to make her their wife. But she is not interested in marrying again. She is not interested in marrying again and has her son, Samuel to care for. One man in particular, Lord Riddledale, is pushing her to marry him but she is disgusted by him.

One evening at a ball, Elizabeth encounters Henry, now age 26. He has worked hard in America and amassed a great fortune. He is visiting with his cousins from America. One of his cousins, Amelia, is a lovely young woman who obviously has her eye on Henry. The encounter between Elizabeth and Henry is cold. He cannot understand why she married shortly after he left when she had promised to wait for him and she cannot understand why she never heard from him. Evidently, something happened to their correspondence to one another. In addition, Lord Riddledale’s pursuit of Elizabeth has become overbearing and he begins to blackmail her. Even though he continues to press his suit, Elizabeth rebuffs him. That is when Henry takes matters into his own hands.

What happened to the correspondence between Elizabeth and Henry? What will Henry do when he finds that he has a son?

This was a good story and the plot was well thought out. However, there were several areas in which certain facts did not match up. One thing in one area of the book and it was changed in another part. That was confusing. I liked Henry and I couldn’t understand why Elizabeth withheld knowledge of little Samuel from his rightful father.

**I received an eARC of this book from NetGalley and Publisher in exchange for an honest review**

Here is the problem with reading uncorrected ARCs - when something is wrong with the book and you are leaving a review - there is a good chance that it has been fixed before it is released. However, I can only review what I have actually read and if there are problems - I am going to say that in my review. So if you are deciding on a book based on the review - please bear that in mind.

I liked this book, but I didn't love it.

Henry was AWESOME - he was an almost perfect hero. Elizabeth didn't rank as high in my opinion, I really had a problem with her - she made a decision to keep something from the hero that I really don't feel she had a right to keep from him.

The story itself was good - it was a classic second chance at love story.

My main problem with the book was all the inconsistencies - the primary one being the timeline - it seems to me that everything was two years - Henry was gone 2 years (but later says he worked hard for 3 years), Elizabeth was married for 2 years (but says her husband died over 12 months after they met and she is not in mourning for him), her son is 2 years old (hmmm). It got to be almost a joke to me (made me think of my husband - Honey, how many beers have you had? His reply - Two beers. It's always two beers - LOL). There was also some inconsistency with Henry's speech - one minute he is saying "ye" for you and later in the same sentence he is saying "you" - it was distracting. He would also say "ye" for your - instead of the oft used "yer" that got distracting as well.

I have read the other reviews for this book and maybe I am just too picky - but I think this author can do better - I would recommend this book and hope that the inconstancies are cleared up before it is released, because the writing was good, the love scenes very warm, the villain was a total whack job and Elizabeth's family was charming.

The draw for me was not the same ole plot line of young miss left pregnant and must marry another. The real draw her was how it was all put together. Finding the bad person that created the havoc in Lady Elizabeth Worthingham's life was the holder of this one. Every page turned, each new character met, each new scene entered, every little detail kept moving closer to the why of it all.

Henry was a bit on the slow side. His uptake was a bit appalling for a man that was titled and capable of going to a foreign land and making a fortune. Elizabeth did what was right for her family. She gave little understanding to what she knew of Henry but just accepted things for face value. There are some interesting characters and so intriguing tidbits of other characters.

No one ever said that a second chance at your first love would be easy. No one ever said that finding the truth would fix all the ills of the world. No one said that getting to the end and your HEA would be simple.

Taking in to account this was an advanced copy with some editing issues and inconsistencies, the story was suspenseful and alluring. I would need to read this one again in the final version. With the issues meet with the timing, wording, and the contradictions I as just a bit confused but was able to successfully navigate the story.
