Book 3: What He Never Knew

Charlie's marriage is dying. She's perfectly content to go down in the flames, until her first love shows back up and reminds her the other way love can burn.

On the northeast side of town, there is a house . . .

The house was once magical, filled with love, and joy, and plans for the future.

Inside its walls are many things that belong to me — my books, the china from my mother on my wedding day, the beautiful cage once home to two birds, now empty, just like me.

And a man.
A man who also belongs to me.
A man I no longer wish to keep.

A man who, no doubt, has not slept, though the sun is rising. Because the house where he waits is where I laid my head to rest every night for eight years. Until last night.

No one who knows me would believe Charlie Pierce, the quiet, bookish girl who never made waves is pulling out of the driveway of a man who isn’t her husband.

But they don’t know me at all.
I don’t even know me.
Not anymore.

They say there are two sides to every story, and I suppose in most cases, that’s true. But the one I live inside of? It has three.

On the northeast side of town, there is a house.
But there is no longer a home . . .

Kandi Steiner is a USA Today and #1 Amazon Bestselling Author living in Tennessee. Best known for writing “emotional rollercoaster” stories, she loves bringing flawed characters to life and writing about real, raw romance — in all its forms. No two Kandi Steiner books are the same, and if you’re a lover of angsty, emotional, and inspirational reads, she’s your gal.

An alumna of the University of Central Florida, Kandi graduated with a double major in Creative Writing and Advertising/PR with a minor in Women’s Studies. Her love for writing started at the ripe age of 10, and in 6th grade, she wrote and edited her own newspaper and distributed to her classmates. Eventually, the principal caught on and the newspaper was quickly halted, though Kandi tried fighting for her “freedom of press.”

She took particular interest in writing romance after college, as she has always been a hopeless romantic and found herself bursting at the seams with love stories she was eager to tell.

When Kandi isn’t writing, you can find her reading books of all kinds, planning her next adventure, or pole dancing (yes, you read that right). She enjoys live music, traveling, hiking, yoga, spending quality time with her family (fur babies included) and soaking up the sweetness of life.

Best Kept Secrets Series Reviews

What He Doesn’t Know: this book was an intense, heart-wrenching, uber emotional rollercoaster. tough to read but so raw and so real.
i was left feeling wrecked and ruined but so in love.

What He Always Knew: this book shook me so hard that i couldn’t think, breathe, couldn’t deal with my emotions.
truly unlike any book i’ve ever read, and a power packed conclusion to this incredible duet.
i experienced gut wrenching sadness. heart palpitating dread. searing anger. utter devastation.
and complete joy.
this book drug me low and made me soar.
this is proof of true, emotional slaughter of the best kind that left me feeling everything single thing.
this is a duet not to be missed.

What He Never Knew: this book is angsty and emotional.
it’s heartbreaking and humbling.
it’s ugly and its beautiful.
it’s magnificent!

This was my first book by Kandi Steiner and I can't believe I waited so long to read her (and this series)! Absolutely amazing! I devoured it while on vacation.

It's a little unconventional as far as love stories go, but I was completely enthralled by it! I was so torn during book two. It had me on the edge of my seat not knowing which way the story would turn, But it was so worth the tears and heartache!
Hands down, one of my favorite reads this year!

To answer a question about how I feel about all three books... (little spoiler)

First of all, as I have said in other reviews of the books singly: i loved the writing of the author...her way with words made me HAVE to finish the books no matter what I was feeling at the moment...

(bows to Ms Steiner)

But I was asked why I hate the character of Charlie sooooo much. Well, I have to assume she was written not to like to make the story work. If she has honor the story ends part way through the first book.

The short list: Cheats on Cameron with Reese, Cameron begs her not to go, she cheats on him again anyway. She cucks Cameron, and when confronted with Blake she turns having sex with Cameron into a weapon. Then she sleeps with Reese on a weekend convention. Makes out with Reese while Cameron is watching in the couples family driveway. Gets the explanation about seeing Cameron with work partner in his lap and STILL can't make up her mind when realizing SHE is the one who has cheated. Has unprotected sex with two men....gets pregnant.... that's enough...

Or is it...

At the end of WHAK Reese is trying to pull it together but is getting no help from the one person who should know better, Charlie. Reese does not know if Daisy is his or Cameron's. To be fair, no one knows and Cameron allows Reese to become part of the family, a bit. This is bad for Reese, he will never get better under these conditions but then... Charlie HAS to know who the father is and makes Cameron take a paternity test, tell him she will keep the results to herself...REALLY...to herself!!! Cameron is not (or shouldn't be)a total idiot. Once Charlie knows the results, if Daisy is Cameron's there is no need to hide the information from him. If she says nothing, well then he has hjs answer. BUT SHE TELLS REESE after knowing for several months. WTF!!!! Does she like having him around wondering about Daisy. And did she tell Cameron she was going to tell Reese? Ugggh, what an awful person...

Trying to decide which of the authors other novels I should try...reccomendations?

As always, Thank you Kandi for sharing your visions!

Heart touching stories that will break your heart and mend it again

I've read the first two stories in this box set but never read the third. I'm glad I finally found the heart to read it.
The author created a storyline that breaks your heart but slowly works on mending it again. After reading all three books, my favorite character would have to be Cameron.

In the first, you get the heroine who was dead to all emotions through what life gave her and the hardship she endured with a husband that seemed to not care anymore to a childhood crush that brought her back to life. You get to see Reese, Charlie and Cameron in all the heartbreak and ugliness and also love that comes from life. You will hate Cameron until he tells his story.
I'm the second, you see more of Cameron and learn more about his character, his personality and his undying devotion even though he didn't really know how to express it in words. You get the whole drama factor between the three. I found that I hated Charlie's character because of how she was. I found new love for Cameron and would love for nothing more than to have a Cameron of my own. Very swoon worthy.
I'm the third installment, you get to see Reeses story. How he learned to live and love again despite the odds. I only wish there was a bit there that involved the conclusion to Reese and Charlie and showed what happened to their friendship.
Overall, great creation by the author.

5 Stars for this triangle love story!

Charlie has been married to Cameron for eight years and she’s feeling neglected. Cameron is always working, never home and even turning down sex with her. Then her first love, Reece, comes back into her life and shows her the love she’s been missing in her marriage. But Cameron is not giving her up ... he will fight to get her love back, but is he too late?

This story had me crying one minute then laughing the next. My heart was shredded by the time I was finished this series. First I wanted Charlie to pick Reece, then Cameron, then Reece, then Cameron ... I couldn’t make up my mind who I wanted her to be with. They both were great guys but sometimes incredibly stupid. This story develops over the first two books and then the third book is about the one who Charlie doesn’t pick ... It’s about how he gets his happily-ever-after. A fantastic series that shouldn’t be missed.

Best Secret

**SPOILER ALERT**
This series contains many triggers. However I'm a firm believer that if a story can evoke emotions then it's a story worth reading.
In Book 1, I had a feeling where things were headed with Charlie and Reese. There were times my mind kept repeating "no, no, no" and wanted to quit but forged forward. And that's what's great about a really good story. You think you know what's going on but you don't. I love that Book 2 had Cameron's POV. And yes, I was and still am Team Cameron. I think because of his situation with Charlie, Reese didn't appeal to me at all. Many times I found myself frustrated with Charlie that if she were a real person in front of me, I would've decked her.
Book 3 was the hardest for me because of the trigger. And of course made me see Reese in a new favorable light.
Overall, this was an unexpectedly great series. I'll definitely read more from this author.

I thoroughly enjoyed book one and two! The character development was excellent and some thing I haven’t seen in many books recently. I truly feel like I got to know each of the characters and how they would react and behave. For some reason, the third book did not work for me. I found myself skimming through it, and much less interested in book 3 However, it was written equally as well. In my opinion.. I also was not aware of the sexual assault in book 3. Perhaps that was what it was. Once the love triangle was resolved, there was less of an attraction to the storyline. However, again, book one, and two were amazing!

OMG

Such an amazing series! I can't believe how invested I immediately became in every single person in each book. I admit that I was in tears a lot feeling the emotions of each of these individuals. They were shown to be so strong and vulnerable all at the same time.
I am an avid reader but this has to be one of my all time favorite reads in many years.
Applause applause to you Kandi Steiner for your amazing writing style. I am a forever fan.THANK YOU for sharing this series with us.

Speechless, BEAUTIFUL and rare!

*SPOILERS*
I don’t know where to start. To say an emotional roller coaster would do it no justice or understatement. To be able to write a love affair (with 3 people) with EVERYONE’S view on full display was incredible. I couldn’t stop reading. It’s powerful and to be able to blend in a rape victim in the mix was outstanding...for lack of better words.
This series leaves you with WTF?! But not with questions...the raw emotions and ability to make you believe it’s not a story but real life.

I absolutely LOVED it! 💜

AMAZING SERIES

I can’t say enough good about this series of books. I couldn’t put it down. Hated Cameron, then grew to like him a little at least... Charlie’s dilemma was heart wrenching, you could practically feel her heart being torn in half. Then Sarah came along and her story broke my heart even more. I cried and laughed out loud multiple times. I can’t wait to read more by this author. This is one that I will read over and over. Absolutely loved it ❤️

What He Doesn't Know -
A dying marriage, An old flame moves back to town, what could possibly go wrong?
Broken hearts, intense passion and a whole lot of angst and tears. The first book pulled me in completely! The characters are real, very broken, and intense.
What He Always Knew-
This love triangle will have you reeling, the passion is sizzling, the hurt is bone deep.
What will happen? You won't know until the bitter end.
Hold on, you're in for one incredible ride!!!!

I am not a huge fan of love triangles per se but I picked up this series after I read A love letter to Whiskey and wanted to read more of Kandi's work. I fell in love with Kandi's writing style with this one. This book was like a masterclass to aspiring authors on how to write a love triangle. I absolutely loved all the three main characters with their flaws and thoroughly enjoyed reading this and feeling this book.

What a ride

I devoured this series and could not put it down! Kandi told such a beautifully flawed journey for the characters. It’s one of those books where you can’t choose who you want to end up with the girl but you know either way it’s gonna hurt so bad. Spoiler alert, there are some pretty big triggers in this book so check TWs.

An emotional read

This series addressed a lot of difficult topics and it was written in such a way that you feel the characters pain. I appreciate that I read the series all as one. Each book was amazingly painful but great reads.

Amazing stories!!

I don't know what to say or how to write a review. However, I love reading your books because they always deal with very deep topics where one comes to understand new things and connect with the characters. These stories were so real and raw, and so intense.
Thanks for these wonderful stories.

Disappointing

Another angsty almost annoying romance that I hoped would be anything but. I’m so done with the long drawn out stories that seem to only want to drag things out to have more than just one book tell the story.

I enjoyed this serious, the love triangle. I could feel the push and pull from the characters, their chemistry and heartbreak. There were definitely parts of the story in which I was so mad and disappointed that I literally wanted to throw my kindle which I’m sure was the goal. Lol

What He Doesn’t Know:
OMG! I’m so pissed right now! I’m mad at Cameron. I’m mad at Charlie. And I think I might be mad at Reese too. Nothing about this is fair. To any of them. And yet they are all at fault! Ugh!

What He Always Knew:
I’m not sure how I feel about Charlie. While her story is a heartbreaking one, I think her choices are very flip-floppy. Very complex characters, but I’m just not sure how I feel about how the way things went down.

What He Never Knew:
I was so emotionally confused after reading the second book that I hesitated to begin WHNK. Oh, how grateful I am that I did! Kandi saved the best story for last in this series. Sarah’s heartbreaking story of the loss of trust and more, and how she came to face her demons was so emotionally compelling. And Reese, oh Reese! THIS. This is the journey you needed! The connection of not just emotion, but story... so perfectly written and completed. I needed this end to the series, it truly made my heart happy. I’m still left feeling very frustrated with Charlie overall. How she was with Reese was so unfair to him. And I’m glad he was finally able to tell her so.
