Finding Cassie

Rate this book
When the teenage girl who has been hanging around near the house knocks on the door and tells her she's her granddaughter, Cassandra Bennington is shocked rigid. There's only one way this can be true: if Evie is the daughter of the baby Cassie gave away for adoption when she was herself a troubled teenager. Is this a trick? Or is Evie's tale true? When she discovers why the girl has come to find her, it brings a tangle of other problems that she can't ignore. This was the last thing she expected to be dealing with as she moves into her new home in a leisure village in Wiltshire.

3.5⭐ = Quite Good.
Second in the Penny Lake series.
I didn't find this quite as good as the first in the series but certainly readable and easy to follow.
May be for you if you fancy a gentle read.

This seemed like an interesting storyline to work with and explore but the prose from beginning to end was exhaustingly simple and I felt as though I was reading a book meant for a child. Quite a disappointing read, in all honesty - I’m not sure I’ll be reading anymore of her books if they all follow this structure!

Thought I'd give the author another try. Boy was I mistaken.

I found an error in the 1st book in this Penny Lake series - Changing Lara. I have never encountered glaring errors in any book I have read. Unfortunately, I found another one in this book.

In Chapter 10, Cassie introduced her granddaughter to Hal, their neighbour, as Lacey. Cassie and the granddaughter were supposed to be hiding her real identity. Then later on in Chapter Fourteen (without them revealing the granddaughter's real identity to Hal yet), Hal would ask Cassie, "So, Cassie, how's it going with Evie?" In Chapter Sixteen, Hal again referred to the granddaughter as Evie: "Will you and Evie come up for an evening meal at the hotel...." This error is highlighted when Cassie responds to the offer with: "We'd love to accept, but Evie will have to wear her new brown wig" then Hal goes: "You don't have to tell me why you called her Evie if you don't want to." Thereafter Cassie explained to Hal the whole story.

Good read but

I have read nearly all of Anna's books and they're very good but rather predictable. There's always a villain doing despicable things which at times I feel are rather far fetched and always a man and woman who have only just met but within days have fallen in love. A bit samey

Possibly the worst book I’ve ever started. I skim read in 20 mins to 12% finished and then gave up. The prose is insultingly simple and the story utterly forecastable. I am shocked that this got published and I’m sad I spent money buying it on kindle

I expected this to be simple and saccharine; what I actually got was a quite complex story. It's an engrossing story.

An enjoyable read, with some good solid characters. Good to see the focus on the same family and situation. With a good happy ending.

Another great book in the series. It always amazes me how she mixes and gets all her scenes in the series to run together. Looking forward to the third book.

Another Oh Dreary!

Such a good storyline to work with, endless possibilities to develop but once again it’s been dulled down with the same endless repetition.
The authors typical old fashioned views/advice told in so many different guises they become another...! Oh heavens here she goes again moment when I feel like pulling my hair out :(
The characters are the usual. One Man is always abusive and controlling, the other is always the Saviour! A weak indecisive Woman being manipulated by the first Man, saved by the second. Mostly the books end with Police involved and all have a happy ending.
The earlier historical books eg. Gibson family, Kershaw Sisters, Lancashire Saga, Lady Bingham’s Aides, Greyladies, Honeyfield Bequest in fact most of the earlier books had very well developed characters and interesting locations.
The contemporary books are mainly the ones I find difficult to enjoy with their repeated judgmental comments.

Lovely story

I usually give this author 4 or 5star's because i really enjoy her books, this story was very close to the world we live in today ,I felt sorry for all the characters in it not those who hopefully got their cumupence in the end. These were vile people.Thank you for a lovely read Anna.
