Hurt to Love

Rate this book
After darkness, always comes the light.
The darkness is where I’ve lived ever since they took me all those months ago. Dragging me into the shadows to play their sick and twisted games. I don’t know why they took me. They talk about an eye for an eye, but I don’t know these men. How can I be punished for a sin I know nothing about? A sin I didn’t commit.
They love to watch me suffer, they live to make my life hell. I thought my life was over.
Until him.
He blazed through my darkness like a lightning bolt, shining through the void of nothingness. He was a force to be reckoned with.
They thought they’d broken me, that somehow they’d won. But they didn’t expect him. I know I never did. And now, my life will never be the same again.

'HURT TO LOVE:' Is a full length dark romance novel by new to me author Nikki J. Summers. Spoken in 'Dual Perspectives.'

Wowza's this was definitely not what I was expecting!! And it definitely kicked my reading slump to the curb!!

This could've been darker than what it was with the subject matter it centered on but it was just enough to keep my dark heart happy, throw in some nail biting times that came at me which had me sitting on the edge of my seat, those I also wasn't expecting!! This will tick a lot of readers boxes.

photovisi-download-4

I loved the slow burn with our characters, it just came natural, add in Cill's quirky personality made for a thoroughly enjoyable read!! His arrogant give no sh#ts attitude warmed me towards him in a heartbeat! He's the type of guy you'd want in your corner

When it came to our girl 'Wednesday' oh my her story was on another level, broken but not defeated, treated no better than a dog, my heartbeat picked up a time or two with what she endured at the hands of two psychotic brother's. How she survived as long as she did without breaking showed her strength.

I loved having a front row seat when it came to her healing progress, and what final broke the camel's back and got our heroine talking.

If your wanting to sink your teeth into something a little bit more unique then this book is for you, just be aware that it is semi dark.

3 🖤❤️🤔🌟s

A very light dark romance read.
Paige was kidnapped and abused by two brothers, who wanted to avenge a person from her family.
Cillian never expected to find his forever girl in a sex club. As soon as his eyes were set on Paige, his protective instinct made a full appearance.
Cillian was sexy, firm, kindhearted and caring.
Paige was almost broken but came out strong, a survivor.

It astonished me how effortlessly and fast Paige recovered from her kidnappers’ torture and slept with Cillian, only after a couple of months he had saved her. I thought it was very irresponsible of them to have sex without protection in a situation like that! Paige didn’t had any knowledge of Cillian’s past sexual life and she had recently gotten out from an abusive environment.
Lastly, I would have liked to be informed that there were two books released before Cillian’s story, because all of three of them were interrelated.

I noticed that none of the negative reviews here actually gave details or composed a review. No judgement, but I felt compelled to give readers and the author a more detailed breakdown. For the skimmers, though, this book had too many issues to rate above two stars, and I don’t feel it was erotic nor dark romance. It has dark subject matter delivered from side characters to the FMC, but it’s not a dark romance.

Can You Get A Feel From The Sample?

No.

If you download a sample or merely read the first 15% of this book, you’ll DNF. Why? It starts so pitiful, lame that your eyes even refuse to roll. Tough it out for a beautiful story of healing. But, be prepared for the final leg to revert to SAF and leave you wondering why you didn’t just DNF in the first place.

SETUP…

So, the MMC walks into a kinky NDA random sex club and says:

Problem was, she probably had a dozen other guys who kept her as their back-up option too, and I didn’t do sloppy seconds.

No, the real problem is the MMC had just raved about having all this ONS random action….

He (his buddy) didn’t understand what was so appealing about having sex with strangers. It wasn’t his thing at all. Me? I fucking loved it. Who wouldn’t? Sex with no strings. Sex the way I liked it, with no need to call her in the morning? Perfect.

^ So, what… does he think that all the random chicks he hooks up with at a SEX CLUB are all there for the first time … or not someone else’s sloppy seconds? Uhm. Yeah. He’s not the sharpest tool in the shed and this feels like a powderpuff sex club.

Problem: The MMC sounds so feminine, despite the profanity, that I thought he was actually the female character up until his buddy gets jealous about his wife’s naked yoga. So, he’s a dude. Okay. But does this sound like something a 28 yo dude would say to other dudes at a sex club?…

“So, the Cunty brothers are in town? I didn’t realise it was a charity night. Is it to help the cranially challenged or micro penis awareness?”

“Looks like the penis enlargement pills have worked for you both. You’re even bigger dicks than you were the last time I saw you,”

I wasn’t averse to using the Cunty brothers and their harem for a night to get away from Little Miss Grabby Hands and her fake ass submissive bullshit.

^^ Yep, sounds like a snarky female. But, no, this is the MMC. I promise you’ll love him after you stop finding him an absolute tool. Sadly, the author pulls the rug out from under you as the MMC approaches the ending like a bumbling idiot. He’s the guy you want to be friends with, but you don’t find at all smexy and want your bodice destroyed by.

Problem: I get that a sex club is supposed to be erotic without the author spelling it out…

It was really quite beautiful, in a fucked-up, erotically-charged way.

We could hear the sensual buzz of the music drifting out of the doors to the dungeon, which stood slightly ajar, beckoning us on in an erotically tempting way, like an irresistible siren.

Hold the phone… the MMC looking to get his jollies in a sex club is a “good guy” … no, a guy with “morals.” A good guy I’d buy. I mean debauchery doesn’t make you cruel, but bringing morals into it is like bringing a pimp to church between ho-downs. Suffice to say. He likes random, kinky sex but only with willing participants. Eh, just leave morals out of it because it makes the context sound very preachy and holier-than-thou.

GRAMMATICAL SHIT…

Issues here, there, and everywhere…

Had done ever since our paths had crossed as teenagers on the streets.

SO WHY NOT A DNF?

We meet the FMC. She’s bent and misshapen, but she’s not broken. Her strength is her bent pieces appearing to be broken. The MMC’s white knight shit seems OTT at first, but as the story progresses, you see that his own dumbass act is merely a shield he’s used to protect himself. He turns out to be quite amazing when it comes to her healing. He’s still a dumbass, but how he handles her is sweet and endearing.

Be warned that your heart will shutter at the violence the FMC endured and the happy NEVER after you aren’t sure will take place or not. The dark abuse is more fade to black. The reader knows it has happened, but it doesn’t get too graphic.

Once the characters were safe, the author became an amazing storyteller for the healing/PTSD aspect of this book. The day-to-day progression of the FMC character was wrapped in everyday movements, but each were profound in the big picture journey of healing. And the MMC was such a patient instrumental crutch for her to feel safe enough to do it.

WHO THE FUCK IS THE MMC?

You will have no clue who this man is. Is he important? At times, he’s too important to kill or fuck with. At other times, he’s that dude close enough to important people to drop names but remains just that - unimportant name-dropper. Is he rich? Well, he can take off work for months with no issue and he has a sports car, but no other sign of being wealthy. What’s his interests, hobbies, likes and dislikes… his character is so entrenched in being comic relief that we never find out anything about the dude other than he’s a flirty jester who likes to cook breakfast, fuck with his friends, and occasionally goes to get his jollies at a kinky sex club.

A RETURN TO STUPID…

Why? Just why did we have to go back to SAF? Why?

The climax reverted back to lame. The MMC is a big enough deal not to kill, but not a big enough deal to be attacked. The owner of the house isn’t to be fucked with, but it’s okay to break into his house and fuck it all up. Uhm, okay. This plot pivot for how the MMC escapes being killed by the bad guys is SAF.

Another SAF plot point is why the FMC was taken to begin with. The cloak and dagger “he” thing…. If someone really wants info from you bad enough to torture and abuse you for eight months and come find your escaped ass when your under the protection of people that are powerful enough NOT to shoot…. I think the bad guys would say who “he” is and what she’s “guilty of” so they could actually get an answer to their question within that eight months. <<< Granted, the why here is suspenseful and heart wrenching when it comes at 84%, but the bad guys waiting that long to deliver it is what makes it SAF and counterproductive to their motives.

Plot hole in timing. It took the MCs hours to get to the safe house from Jackson’s house. So, how does Jackson get a call and then immediately show up to help the MC save the FMC? Time travel?

The goal is a snatch and grab of the FMC. So, WTF did the bad guys take time to tear the house apart like a tornado?

Once the FMC is re-kidnapped, the author doesn’t seem to know what to do with the characters, and the dialogue turns SAF…

Jackson chuckled to himself and then said fondly, “Ryley’s really big now. You should see her. She’s got a lovely little bump.” I felt like the worst friend in the world. I hadn’t even asked how my favourite sister was, I was so engrossed in my own dramas. “I’m sorry, dude. I should’ve asked.”

^^^ She’s kidnapped by sex slave dudes, and he’s supposed to pause the rescue to ask about his buddy’s pregnant wife? Wtf? It goes on and on like this with the dialogue on the MMC’s side of the action seeming like a host trying to fill air time when an act stalls before going on stage. I mean let’s not plan our attack or anything… let’s talk about the weather and baseball.

Speaking of planning. The MMC didn’t have a gun when he was thrown overboard by the bad guys nice enough not to shoot him with their guns. So, once he swims back from being thrown overboard, you’d think he’d think ‘aha, this time I shall bring my own gun’ … right? No, he heads back out with no gun to rescue his lass. *blinks* Thankfully, his time traveling buddy has two guns.

And bad guy talk? We have gems straight off the elementary schoolyard…

“Once a cunt, always a cunt?” I hissed out, turning my head to see Isaac glaring hellfire right back at me. “You should know, Cill. It takes one to know one.” He kept his gun raised and his arm steady, but his eyes slowly strayed to the door behind us.

Listen, I hate when average guys seem to be able to beat everyone’s ass with nothing but a pinky finger and gum wrapper, but the author seems intent to shred every shred of masculinity the MMC has and make him the worst hero of all times. For all the growling, threats, and fist clinching, we get…

and I ended up getting thrown onto my back like a goddamn fool. I wanted to tear him apart, destroy both of them.

Smooth.

I wanted to cry. To curl up in a ball like a fucking baby and scream the pain away, but I couldn’t let them see that I was weak.

Too late, buddy.

“Don’t do anything stupid, Cill. I’ve got this.” Jackson kept his gun pointed at Enzo,

Thank G’zus, Jackson is a time traveler.

He was grinning like he was at a fucking party watching a bitch fight.

Funny, how I’m of the same mindset as the bad guy #bitchfight

And sure enough, seconds later, Enzo had knocked Jackson’s gun out of his hand, and had his own pistol pointed right back at him.

Well, fuck me running - even Jackson turns out to be a bitch:(

Then I saw him. Luca Marquez.

At least there’s one alpha in the story.

Moving on…. SPOILER ALERT

So, the guys give the FMC tips to deal with her childhood, and that is that the children aren’t responsible for the father’s sins and to turn all the evils of the fathers into something good for future generations. Okay, cool. So, her reply is that she never wants to see her pedophile father again. Screeching halt. So, she’s survived being a sex slave because her father molested her captors, but her epiphany from this is to just ignore that her dad is likely out there in the world somewhere continuing to inflict violence on children? Huh? Instead, this day is the first day of her happily ever after. The solution - the dad died around a year ago, but the police kept it a secret from her family and the media because they thought he might’ve been linked to a sex ring. JUST WHEN you think it can’t get any more stupid… it does.

More timing issues when Jackson’s wife is set to have her baby by the end of the book when she’d just found out she was preg at the beginning of the book. So, does that mean the MCs stayed at the safe house six or seven months?

More timing issues - the chapter head says the FMC has only been back a week. Yet, all the shit she says she’s done - double dates, shopping, girls days, baby prep, going to see her mom, reconnecting with her brother etc etc in just a week?

Insert a HEA one year later.

Last problem. MMC meets FMC at a sex club. MMC is there because he likes kinky shit. Yet, we never see said kinky shit ever exist ON PAGE. It’s briefly addressed in the middle of the book as a ‘hey, don’t worry; we will get to that later,’ but later never comes and it falls away like that wasn’t the entire plot point of their meeting to begin with. Lame.

OVERALL

Start sucks ass. Middle is beautifully written. Climax is as believable as anyone ever actually marrying Jeff Bezos for his good looks. End is lame as fuck. FMC is a tragic character. MMC is a bumbling idiot who is occasionally funny, sickeningly sweet with the FMC, and as far from an alpha male kinky mofo as a wet stick in the mud.

WHO IS THIS BOOK FOR?

If you’re a reader who gets your kicks out of the sweet and sappy and doesn’t give two fucks about the plot making sense or male being alpha and funny verses just funny… then this is the book for you if you can stomach all the perverse torture the FMC endures at the hands of her captors ( most of which is told via memories and flashbacks.) Just don’t expect the guy from the sex club to actually get kinky.

Hurt to Love book truly blew me away with its dark romance and slow burn, complicated relationship between main heroes. Author kept a perfect balance between dark and romantic level in the book. This story is not only dark but also very beautiful, heartbreaking, heart-warming and oh my gosh I was melting over main characters. Nikki J Summers created an amazing story which fulfilled my reader's heart completely and hit that right spot of the dark side of my soul.

I was awaiting for Cillian' story from the moment I've met him as a second character in This Cruel Love book. BTW if you haven't read this story, I recommend to read it but it's not necessary to understand this one.
Author wrote this story from the dual POV and I need to give her credit because she excellently managed to write it from man's point of view.
Cillian was arrogant smartass handsome guy, with a cocky attitude but other than that he was like an angel of a man, man I would easily fall in love with. He was protective, carrying, charming in his own way and made me laugh out loud with his witted mouth.

His heroine was more of enigma in the story and I won't tell you much about her because I want you to have the same reading experience as I had but what she went through made my heart cracked open.
She was broken, insecure, trusted no one and she put up high walls around her heart.
Her story is a mystery for bigger part of the book. We barely know anything about her. The darkness was lurking from the shadow all the time and wanted to capture her again.

Their relationship wasn't easy, it was very slow burn romance but they felt strong attraction to each other and I couldn't wait for their very first touch or kiss.
Their lives were full of secrets which peeked my curiosity and pushed me deeper into the story.
Addictive plot full of suspense didn't allowed me to put this book down. Author accelerated pace of action in the second part of the book with twists and turns in the story and I was devouring every single word and telling to myself "only one more chapter" but wanting more all the time until the very end.

Hurt to Love book make you scream, make you gasp and make you cry but definitely will tug your heartstrings. Nikki J Summers wrote an amazing story mixed with darkness and light, full of pain but also with deep healing love and I get lost in the words of this book.

First the author gave us Luca & Chloe.
Then we got Jackson & Ryley.
And now we have Cillian & P.

Raw, emotional, intense, suspenseful, and truly satisfying.
The journey that both of these characters go through is inspiring. I dare anyone to say that this story doesn’t pull at their heartstrings.
The author explores the pain and recovery in such detail that the pages will grip you from the very first chapter.

Five stars for another amazing book from Nikki J.
I eagerly await the next...

This is the first book that I've read by this author and it definitely will not be my last. I really enjoyed reading this book and so will you, everyone should read this awesomely written dark romance book.

This book makes your emotions go and down and on a complete roller coaster, it's very raw and a very intense read but the way that this author writes really draws you in and hooks you, I really like this authors writing style and I cant wait to read more from her in the future.

This is Cillian's story and boy what a story it is. Cillian is a total alpha male, who is sexy, strong, protective and has a smart mouth but is also quite funny at times too.
P is someone I admire and is much stronger than she thinks, she is so beautifully genuine that I really feel for her and what she has been through.
(NO SPOILERS )

Reading and seeing the journey that these characters goes through is so hard and I really feel for them. This author has written these characters brilliantly and has really brought them to life for the reader and made them real and made you really feel for them This book has twists, turns and shockers that will keep you guessing all the way through.
I found myself reading this book non stop as I was desperate to see what was going to happen as I couldn't put it down its a real page turner and a fantastic read.

I'm glad that I've found another great author to read and I will highly recommend this book when it gets released.

Thank you to the author and the publishers for allowing me to read an early copy of this book.

Oh my Lord, what can I say about this book other than it is simply fantastic! I read it in one afternoon, which isn't very hard but I was sucked in from the get-go and held on to me until the very end, I found my eyes welling up a few times throughout the book.

Cillian and Wednesday (won't say her real name, you'll have to read it to find out) are just beautiful. The love he has for her is the stuff of fairytales and despite her broken exterior, she is so strong and brave who learns to trust him and open her heart to him.

It's gonna take me a while to get over this one, that's one thing I'm sure of. Do yourself a favour and go and read this book, it will be the best decision you made this year.

I’ve been dying to read Cillian’s story and it was even better than my wildest imagination. Gut wrenching, touching, funny, sexy. In short: absolute perfection. Summers has a talent for blending unimaginably horrific situations with brave, bold characters who push their way through in most unexpected ways. The setup of this story was absolutely brilliant, and the breakthrough to Cillian and P’s falling for each other beyond satisfying. But the wild ride doesn’t stop there, as Cillian and P must endure one last twist. And I both should’ve seen it coming and never would’ve guessed. So, so, so good and I can’t recommend this dark, raw, twisty, and real romance highly enough.

This. Book. Was. EVERYTHING.

Nikki done so amazing with this book. For every dark situation Cillian bought light. I loved Cillian in This Cruel Love and was so excited when Nikki said he was getting his own book.

I felt all the emotion when reading this book. The hurt, the fear and the lust. I adore a book that makes you feel every emotion and Nikki done just that.

I can’t wait to read it again, hands down a firm favourite

I usually avoid dark romance like the plague. They scare me big time!! 😬 I can’t stand assault, violence, rape, trafficking... These are usually elements for a nightmare for me. But I like Nikki J. Summers enough to want to give this one a try and I’m so glad I did!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It’s emotional. Gut wrenching. Raw. And intense.

I was consumed by this story, anxious to see what was in store for P., intrigued by all the suspense and unable to put it down! This book took me on an emotional roller coaster and I absolutely loved the ride!! Well done, Nikki!! Well done!!

hmm I liked it but I had a few troubles with it. It says it’s super dark, but I considered it a very light dark read. It doesn’t dive deep in the dark subjects.

I liked Cill and P, their characters were good and they hooked me. The romance was sweet. The side characters were good, too. At the beginning I noticed they have their own books and this would be considered as the 3rd book of the series. I was worried I’d fcked up reading this first, but no. You really don’t need to read the other ones. I’m gonna read them, though. This book made me interested in their stories.

My issue with this:
The way we’re presented P’s story. I guess the purpose was to make us feel sad for her and want her to do better. Of course I wanted her to get better, but at the beginning well I didn’t know her, so I really wasn’t like “suffering” or feeling what she was feeling. I felt very disconnected and unattached. Also the fact that we are never told what was really done to her affected that. It was just one heavy scene (not super heavy) and after that it’s just like “they’ve done terrible things to me”, “after what they’ve done”, and stuff like that. I’m not saying I enjoy and i’m happy about people suffering and reading the details, but this was presented as a heavy dark read and I expected that.

Also, I could see the way P got out of her shell and how she slowly began to trust Cill. But again, the intimacy between them happened way to easily. And I’m guessing she was sexually abused, I’m not sure cause we’re never told. But if she was, the sex part came like it was nothing. And the whole premise was based on the fact that she was mute due to her trauma. So it didn’t really add up.

I feel unfulfilled about Cill. We don’t really know much about him. What does he do for a living? Is he rich? What are his hobbies? We dived in his past just a tiny bit at the beginning and in the middle, but that was that. I’m guessing if I read the other books I would know him more, but for this one on its own, I needed a little bit more of him.

Overall, this was an enjoyable read. I liked it. The heavy scenes were brushed over like the author was afraid to dive too deep. It felt like the book wanted more of the sweet romance, with the dark past while keeping it light. And it was well done. It just that, for me, books with these subjects while being described as a “dark” book and not diving deep, isn’t enough. These are heavy topics and they need more. More details, more depth, just more to feel the heartbreaking, soul heaving feeling. I still like it though, so I’m gonna read the other books of this world.

The order is:
Luca (Luca and Chloe’s book)
This Cruel Love (Jax and Rayley’s book)
Hurt to Love (Cill and P’s book)

Cillian. Cillian. Cillian.

Where the hell do I start. This book was insanely good. I loved it.

I was dying to read Cillian's story after meeting him in Jackson's book (This Cruel Love) and it didn't disappoint at all! It was everything I expected and so so so much more!

Nikki did it again and blew me away with the creativity, the storylines, the twists and turns throughout. I couldn't put it down. It had me gasping out loud, clenching my fists and completely swooning at how protective and loving Cillian was.

I'm sad I reached the end! I feel lost.

Honestly. This book. I urge you to read it and read it now. 5 fat stars!

Hurt to Love is a standalone romantic suspense novel with a darker tone that will keep you glued to the pages. I love Nikki J. Summers's writing style, it's easy to follow, entertaining and emotional and this story was beautifully presented. I was so excited when I first read the blurb because I wanted so badly Cillian's story and this book did not disappoint.

If you read This Cruel Love, you know a bit about Cillian and his exuberant personality, if not you're in for a treat because this man is brilliant. He's funny, carrying compassionate, he's sexy without even having to try hard, it's so easy to fall in love with him. Cillian hasn't had the best upbringing but he's been lucky to find a friend in Jackson who is like a brother to him. He knows hardship but has learned to cope through humor and hard work. When he meets P, Cillian can't help that feeling of protectiveness towards her. There's something about this girl that intrigues him, he wants to help her any way he can, to break down her walls and peer into her soul.

This is a slow burn romance, told from dual POV, with and enigmatic heroine and a suspenseful plotline. It's the kind of story that grips your heart, with complex and relatable characters, twists, turns, and secrets to keep you on your toes. I highly recommend reading this book!

I was in the mood for something dark and twisted, and Hurt to Love looked like a great option. And it was, but it wasn't as dark and twisted as I expected.
I love the characters' dynamic. It was sweet. The protective hero, without being it too much. The heroine strong, despite everything she has been struggling with.
It's really a nice read to forget about the world.
I want to read more of Nikki's books in the future.

"Hurt to Love" by Nikki J. Summers is a stand-alone story, although I would prefer before reading this book read the previous ones, "Luca" and "This Cruel Love". I was looking forward to this book. Cillian was an important character in the previous book that he was highly satisfactory, and I couldn't stop myself from finishing that book and starting this one.

This story kept me very hooked not only because of Cillian but also for the plot that leaves you until the last chapters to tie up all the loose ends.

The main character is Cillian James, who meets P later known as Paige Olsen. Cillian was already known long before this book began, and therefore, he was already aware of her preferences and where he moved. Thanks to this, P is known, which for me, has been a great discovery with this character.

He didn't live in he darkness like I did. No. He just danced in and out of it whenever the mood took him.

Paige is a very different protagonist from the previously known ones. Too shady past that continues affecting his life, and when she meets Cillian, she sees a future, although at first, she intends to trust no one.

But gradually they get to know each other. Cillian tries to get smiles out of him and much more out of a woman who will try to open up. A full-blown HEA with characters from all three books united by a common purpose.

Hurt to love = addictive and impossible to put down

I fell in love with Cillian In This Cruel Love and was so excited to find out he had his own book! If there ever was someone who deserved their own happily ever after it’s definitely Cillian. He’s a fantastically written character with a personality that makes him impossible not to love and laugh out loud at his non-filtered one liners.

The road to said happily ever after was definitely not an easy one. This storyline was addictive and impossible to leave. When I did put the book down it was constantly on my mind.

I devoured this book. I couldn’t read it fast enough my emotions were all over the place one minute I was laughing at Cillians quick wit and charming statements the next I was gasping in horror at what poor Wednesday/P was going through physically and mentally. The descriptive writing of the book makes you feel like you’re watching it play out rather than reading it from a page.

The slow burn between the characters was surprisingly enjoyable! I don’t usually like a slow burn but absolutely loved the ways in which Cillian continues to work and build up the trust.

I loved the appearances from other characters from Nikki J Summers books especially Cillians and Jackson’s interactions.
I was worried about the book hangover with the last book however I know for a fact this one is going to be 100% times worse.

Wednesday/P/Paige - 😢 gosh, what she endured physically and mentally in the hands of the Conti brothers (I wish I could use Cillians name for them but feel I might be banned if I did) was horrific and unimaginable. A few times in the book I wasn’t sure Cillian was going to get through to her but thankfully his determination, patience and lovable ways worked their magic.

I rarely finish a book in under 24 hours but the incredible storyline, characters and twists made it one that couldn’t be left unfinished for too long!

A dark, twisted tale of sin and seduction. Filled with angst, torture and hurt the path to love was not an easy one. Having to overcome challenges to gain their love.

EXCERPT

They think they’ll break me.
They think I’m weak.
An eye for an eye they said, but this isn’t my atonement. How can you pay for a sin you never committed? A sin, the depths of which you know nothing about.
When will enough be enough?
For eight long, torturous months, they’ve used every evil, fucked-up trick in their books to make me crack and splinter. But I’m not made of glass, transparent and ready to shatter. They think they’ll crush me, but I’m already dead inside. I died on the day they took me, dragging me into the shadows to play with their demons. I’m not even fit to have the title of toy like the others. They call me the dog, but if they think I’ll ever be loyal, they’re wrong. I have teeth, and when the time is right, I’ll bite back.
They won’t hear my bark.
They won’t hear anything from me.
Ever.
As children, we’re foolishly told that sticks and stones may break our bones, but words will never hurt us.
I have a new one.
Take my body, abuse me hour after hour. But with my voice, I hold all the power.

Oh my heart!!!! Absolute perfection!!!!

I absolutely loved (and devoured) this book. I’d loved Cillian from the first time we met him in This Cruel Love and his story didn’t disappoint. I absolutely adore 🥰 him...his sassy, crass but sweet sense of humour and how he loves his girl so hard. He’s caring, loving but all surly and alpha and absolutely knicker melting swoonworthy.
And when he meets his girl in not the nicest of circumstances for her...the way he helps her just melted my heart.
The dark themes were handled well and I honestly didn’t see the twist at the end at all. And the epilogue...oh holy sweetness...an amazing beautiful ending for Cillian’s beautiful story.
Read this book and fall in love with him. Most definitely one of my fave 2020 reads so far and my fave of Nikki’s books as well.
A one-click author for me now, no matter what she writes I’ll read it and devour it. But I’m sure Cillian will always be my fave. 🥰

Holy hotness and dark romance Batman! I have not checked out the previous books by Nikki J. Summers and I am kicking myself that I have not already read Luca and Jackson's books because this Hurt to Love was somehow a great blend of humorous and dark at the same time. HOW does that happen?!? Serious though, those two things do not normally go together, but it was a great mixture and I really enjoyed the way it was delivered.

Cillian is a jokester but his heart runs deep and true and the way he reacts to P is amazing. All in all, the characters are diverse and entertaining and the story line is fluid and runs at a good pace. I am definitely a fan and enjoyed reading it. I give it 4.5 outta 5 stars and recommend you checking it out!

PS: Thank you to Nikki J. Summers and Give Me Books PR for allowing me an advanced copy of the book to read and review honestly.

Unputdownable!

"Take my body, abuse me hour after hour. But with my voice, I hold all the power."

This book had me hooked from the prologue. I even messaged a friend, telling her to stop everything she was doing and pick up this book!

I love Nikki J Summers writing style. It's so easy to read, it flows so well that it's almost poetic.

One question I asked myself throughout this book was: Why haven't I read from this author before?

I can't answer that question, but I will say I will be backpedalling to read every book I missed.

CILLIAN! (Probably one of my favourite names ever!)
He is everything you need in a bookboyfriend, and I do mean everything.

He's cheeky, witty, gorgeous, craves control but is not controlling, thoughtful, swoonworthy, and so much more.

I'm not going to divulge too much on the storyline of this one as I feel you need to experience it blind.

But please, do yourself a favour... AND PICK UP THIS BOOK!

Couldn’t put it down!

Right from the off, I loved the writing, very witty, colourful and confident. I thought I was settling in for a lovely well told romance with just the right amount of steam. But I soon discovered this was an ambitious book, with more depth and psychological development than I expected. The story goes to some very dark places, but the treatment is brave (fearless, even), and sensitive at the same time. All the way through, I felt I was in the hands of an accomplished storyteller and Ioved both the main characters and their relationship. I don’t want to divulge too much, so let’s just say, this is the first book of Nikki’s I’ve read, but it won’t be the last!

Yet again I find myself reading a book and kicking myself that I didn’t read the previous books. Don’t get me wrong this can be read as a standalone. However I get introduced to characters in this book that I now know I want to know more about- Luca and Chloe and Jackson and Ryley.

This is Cillian and Ps story. Their story is everything I was hoping for and more. Just when I thought the story was calming down the author threw a twist at me.

I’m not going to go into the storyline. I will say this story was gripping and gave me so many feels.

Can’t believe it’s my first read by the author. I’m so looking forward to reading more from this author.

This was my first dark romance. And there is darkness here and, honestly, it's hard to read at times. But there's light, too. Blinding light and lasting love.

Cill, our hero, is a dream. He's both hard and soft at the right times. Paige, our phoenix of a heroine, is easy to root for. Despite the darkness, this contemporary romance brought me joy.

The world-building is superb and the characters, though all of a violent underworld, easy to love. I look forward to reading more by this author!

Cheese and rice on a cracker.
Cillian *dreamy sigh*
I feel like I've been in love with him for so long when in reality i only met him a less than a week ago.
He's got that wise crack humour that i love, he's always got a pep in his step and he's an absolute delight to read.
Real life kept getting in the way while reading but when i had to put it down my brain was constantly going over and over wondering what their doing.
I loved the storyline and everything that went into it, it had it's hard parts but Cillian more than makes up for that.
P was so strong, she was a fighter and i loved her for it. I can't say much about her without giving stuff away but she was so amazing to read about.
I think I'm seriously in love with Nikki's writing.

I LOVED THIS! The minute I started reading this book I couldn't put it down and I finished it in one sitting. So good!

"Let me love you. I just want the chance to love you."

Cillian James has stolen my heart! He was the sweetest most kindest human ever. Bless his soul! The way he was so patient with Wednesday just made my heart melt. And the man was always trying to make her laugh....gotta love him!

This was a oh-so-good slow burn romance and it was worth it. The romance itself wasn't necessarily 'dark romance' but it was raw and intense and I loved the passion.

Wednesday (no spoilers here ahaha) was such a tough person I immediately loved her. She had been tortured for so long and seeing her moments of happiness just made me giddy. And when she finally found her voice again, I couldn't have been happier! That girl was one tough cookie.

"I'd kill these evil fuckers with my bare hands if I had it in me"
Yasss girl!

Technically this is a stand-alone book but I probably should have read Luca's and Jackson's stories before this one. It's all good but I think I'll definitely read them now!

Cillian and P. will break your heart and turn you inside out. Cillian is arrogant, sarcastic and has a good heart. I loved reading about him. P. is a mystery through much of the book. I've really enjoyed reading this story.
