The year is 1957. In the tiny harbor-side town of Dark Haven, Maine, an impossibly beautiful mannequin stands in the shop window of a boutique bridal shop. A mannequin that looks all too real. When Lacey Casket is given a chance to stitch her life back together, she comes to the small town in hopes of finally living up to expectations, of finally putting her life on the straight and narrow... ...until a clash with the owner of the bridal shop jolts Lacey’s old, rebellious ways from their restless slumber. Something about that creepy mannequin won’t let her go. And its life-like lips harbor a deadly secret, one that threatens to expose the town for what it really is.
I write wild cozy mysteries with lots of twists and quirky characters. In real life, I’m just a lowly public school teacher, but some of my best friends are medical examiners, high-ranking military officials, intelligence officers, and comedians (not necessarily in that order ;) Put together, their expertise helps me write pulse-pounding mysteries with humor and authenticity.

I was pleasantly surprised by this book! I love the quirky and complex interesting characters! The story was really unusual and attention getting. I love the character Lacey and cannot wait to read more about her in the future books. Very enjoyable read, filled with twists and turns and this book actually made me laugh out loud at times, which makes this a winner for me! Being a Jersey girl myself, born in the 50's, and understanding how it feels to move to another place, I could relate to Lacey. I loved the book!
Lacey Casket finds herself in jail for trying to steal from a museum. Her father has had enough of her behavior so her Uncle Jimmy comes to the rescue. He brings her to his inn to help work there. A murder takes place at the inn and this is where the story gets interesting.
I honestly wanted to dnf this one because it was really slow to start but I hung in there and it was well worth the finish. I enjoyed the mystery some of the things that occur in the story felt a little far fetched but I suspended belief and went with the story.
I was not sure I would like this book, but was proven wrong. The main character is not your little Miss Perfect. She has an inherited mental issue that actually aids in her solving the mystery that has affected the town for years. She lives with her uncle, who also has the same issue but has taught himself ways to overcome it and run a business. The cast of quirky characters and Laceys thoughts on all them make this an I interesting read.
There were several things I liked about this book, but it has some serious pacing issues that slow it down. The beginning, especially, spends far too much time setting the stage before a mystery is introduced. So while it is interesting reading, it just doesn't match my expectations for the genre.
Murder, murder, murder. All in the same family in astonishing ways. Cops turn their heads until a girl comes to stay with her uncle, she was always in trouble with the law, then makes friends with a trooper and together they pretty much settle the murders. So much going on you have to read. Definitely recommend
Did not get too far into book when I came to the realization that our "heroine?" has severe mental problems. I read a little more and decided that this book was just not for me. So, another author added to me "authors non grata" list.
I found this mystery to be enthralling. I thought it might be paranormal but no ,it has quirky, strange, flawed, sometimes frightening characters who are also very human. The mystery kept me guessing to the end.
I stated out reading what I thought was drivel which disappeared by chapter 2.i can’t imagine the total imagination that brought this novel to fruition but am quite happy that it did. Bring on the next one in the series.
