White Data

Rate this book
The journey into absurdity is just beginning.

Snarky Naomi Wilcox’s already fragile life is turned upside down when she’s t-boned by a drunk driver. Naomi wakes from unconsciousness only to learn that she has several broken ribs, is going into surgery, and Sean, her son, is in a medically induced coma. The worst part, Sean is going to need a liver transplant to save his life.

Whether or not Sean receives a liver in time is directly tied to the Citizen Score, a score assigned to citizens that’s derived from personal data. Since Sean is under eighteen, his parent’s scores determine his placement on the recipient list. Naomi’s score isn’t perfect, and neither is Jake’s, her husband and Sean’s father. Perfect is what they need to save Sean’s life. Jake decides to take matters into his own hands, but it doesn’t turn out as planned. Now, as Naomi’s world crumbles further, she must figure out a way to save her son - at any cost.

In the year 2070 of Habitual Humanity, White Data continues the descent into the events that will create an apocalyptic and post-apocalyptic America.

In a not so far off government rules society, you life is judged by your social impact, did you go to college, do you take of your body, is your employment in a much needed societal occupation. All of these things together give you’re a good citizen score. All of your services depend on this score. Naomi our protagonist is just a typical average citizen. But today that score is more important than anything else in life. Her son needs a liver transplant. Will be “allowed” to get one – it all depends on Naomi’s score. What can she do to raise that score? How can she save her son’s life. Wow this one kicked me right in the stomach. I have a daughter who had a liver transplant when she was only 4- would I have had the citizen score. I would like to think so but I am not anyone or do anything outstanding. J. M. Tompkins knows how to hook the reader and real you in! "This is a brilliant read ... well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start. Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable. Great suspense and action with and wonderful world building. I highly recommend this novel. I gave this honest, voluntary review after being given a free copy of the book.

A good second novella in this well written dystopian American series! A great short story, different people, but the same mad world! This looks like it will be a real treat! I will definitely read the next part as it has me a little hooked!

This book follows a quick storyline with just a grain of 'Atlas Shrugged' and a pinch of "John Q." Anyone who likes super-short books that they can speed through in no time and / or enjoys reading about conspiracy theories will find a lot to love about 'White Data!'
