First, I'm a husband and dad to my two kids. We live in Orange County, CA. I've been writing for about 20 years, usually about Christian living, theology, philosophy, apologetics, and culture. When my dad, and then my young wife, were both diagnosed with stage four cancer within a couple of months apart, our world changed. I wrote my current book to help people know what to say and do when something like that happens. It will help readers know how to love a friend or family member with a critical illness.

I will be releasing a larger book soon called "In Your Corner". It's about my personal journey as a husband and a caretaker to my wife, Rebekah, with stage four breast cancer. Over the last two years, we have also filmed a documentary about Rebekah's life, journey, and faith through cancer. It's called "A Brave Hope" and will be out soon.

My passions are reading, learning, writing, and creating things. We love to hit up garage sales, thrift stores, and antique stores. We enjoy refurbishing old furniture and making old things, new. Geesh, we sound old. I'm 40 and Rebekah is 30. But we are quite nerdy. We love to relax in bed, watch our shows on Netflix, and eat ice cream.

Last year we started "Rebekah's Hope" to house our books and movie. Rebekah's Hope exists to educate, encourage, and empower anyone walking the cancer journey. We want people to know that there is always hope.

I absolutely enjoyed reading this book, it’s full of wonderful ideas of things to do and not to do. I’ve had the privelage to know Rebekah and her family personally, and to see the transformation and all the lord has done continues to do blows my mind. She is so strong, courageous, genuine and loving...thank you Joel for making this book happen! It was an amazing perspective and brings things to light with Real responses you get from people and how they aren’t always “helpful” but maybe even more damaging! Thankful for the good ideas as well. I know I have been both a dragon and angel to friends without knowing it, this was a very easy read and helpful to those who just don’t know how to be helpful to a friend or family member in need.
