USA TODAY Bestselling author Carmen Falcone favors writing high-stakes, addictive romance with intense chemistry that leaps off the page. Her heroines are quirky and relatable, with just a touch of snark. And her heroes are impossibly hot, oftentimes stubborn and bossy, and will give you that delicious rush of adrenaline.
She’s been publishing for for 15 years, with over 80 books available in various formats, some of which have been translated to multiple languages.
She lives in Texas with her husband, kids, and three dogs.
I was a bit surprised that I like this as much as I did. Generally books with so many steamy scenes don’t have much of a story. However I liked this one, despite not really understanding her motives all the time. I liked the characters and the fact that the heroine, Izzy, is trying to find out what happened to her stepmother.
What I didn’t really like is the fact that she seemed a little bent more on revenge than justice at times and she didn’t seem to care how much it affected the man she is claiming to be falling in love with. The Hero, Nassor, is the king Regent of the African nation of Gwokon (fake country with a silly name in my opinion). Being the King regent means he is soon becoming the King, because his uncle who has Alzheimer’s is abdicating the thrown.
Being a new King, Nassor is starting his reign at a disadvantage because he was shunned from the kingdom as a child since he was born to the King’s sister out of wedlock and he wasn’t raised being trained to be a king. However he wants to make a lot of changes to bring the nation into the twenty first century. He wants to improve the economy, healthcare and other things. In order to do that he needs a chance.
Though Izzy wants to find out how her stepmother was murdered in the country and bring it out into the open. Even though it happened under his Uncles rule, Nassor knows that a scandal like that could hurt his rule if it comes out at the very beginning of his reign. Not to mention if his enemies find out that he purchased Izzy in a Virgin auction for thirty days.
I enjoyed how this played out, though not always liking Izzys actions. I also liked that this was a completely different setting than most books I have read. I don’t read a lot of interracial love stories but I genuinely liked this one. Though there really was no issue with the fact that they were from different races, more so because she was from America and he became a king. Tradition also calls for him to marry multiple women, which was a big issue in the story as well, and handled nicely.
This was a stand-alone romance and it was extremely steamy. I give it a heat index of 5 out of 5 flames. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥. I liked the steamy scenes, the wording wasn’t too flowery but wasn’t too crass either. I think it was just perfect for the tone of the book, which I really liked. I don’t know about you but when the intimate scenes have language that is overly poetic or flowery, I end up laughing and when it is too crass, it is like reading bad porn.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Hot and sweaty but a bit jumpy. 3.5 stars ~~~~~~~~~~~~ I love the premise of this book. Falcone has written another in this series prior, Auctioned to the Greek Billionaire, that I read and it was good too. Both are stand-alones.
The typical virgin story is given a different platform in this new one. I really enjoyed the characters and their development, but for some reason I did not get the normal intense connection between the two we usually see in a Falcone book. The main event even seemed like it was underplayed. Plus, there were some areas that seemed jumpy and just didn't flow well for me.
However, this story is spicy and sweet with some heated scenes that are certainly memorable. Sold to the King is what it is - short and sexy with some sweaty moments and a lovely HEA that will leave you with a smile on your face.

A soon to be king on a mission to enjoy his last days of freedom. A women willing to sell herself to travel and discover what happened to her step-mother who was murdered. Romantic telling by a skilled author for a quick read. "A copy of this was provided by Entangled via NetGalley with no requirements for a review. Comments here are my honest opinion."
In an effort to raise money to travel to Africa to solve her step-mother's murder, a young teacher offers herself up at an exclusive "virgin" auction, never suspecting that that action will provide her with a whole lot more than an opportunity to investigate. Carmen Falcone writes hot, hot, hot romances and this one is another sizzler. If you think romances should be sweet and wholesome and what goes on in the bedroom doesn't belong in a book, this isn't the book for you, but if you love steamy romance that's a little bit naughty and come complete with an H.E.A., this is a story that will heat up your cold winter nights.
Izzy needs money to find the person responsible for her stepmother's death, so when she hears of the virgin auction, she knows it's her best and last hope. The man who purchases her time for the next month, Nassor, wants one last indulgence before he takes on the responsibilities thrust upon him. When he sees the gorgeous woman on the stage, he instantly knows he will bid whatever it takes. He's got plans for this beauty. But her big secret may be a big problem, bring Nassor's insecurities to the surface again.
HOT. That's the main word to describe this story. But, it's not just freakin sexy, it's entertaining too and Izzy and Nassor make a great couple once they finally declare their feelings. I actually liked them as a couple so much that I found myself wishing for more of them by the time the ending rolled around.
I was looking for something a little different to read. When I came across this book on Netgalley the cover and synopsis just got me.
I was expecting one thing and got another with this book. I really wasn’t feeling how things were going from the very first page. The synopsis makes you think you're going to get an erotic story about a soon to be king out to sow his wild oats. A king From Gwokon. From the Gwokondenese monarchy.
say what?!...lol
But in reality... The main character Izzy is out to find out who killed her stepmother. She signs herself up to be in the virgin auction. It's the only way she thought of to get money and she's hoping she gets bought by someone from Gwokon! Because the person who killed her stepmother happens to be from Gwokon!
Ummm what! this wasn't mentioned in the synopsis!...lol
I’m thinking to myself. This... is not what I signed up for! The whole story is mostly about how Izzy is trying to find the killer of her stepmother. It overshadowed everything between Nassor & Izzy.
I wish this book was more erotic and less mystery. And just overall more about Nassor and Izzy trying to make a relationship work with how they met and how they could make it work with Nassor being the king and Izzy being an American.
The whole human trafficking and dead stepmother wasn’t for me. And I think the synopsis should be changed so people know what they are getting into. Yes, the book had it’s sexy moments. But not enough for me to fall in love with this story.

I have to admit that I tend to shy away from stories about virginal females learning at the hands of an experienced man. That said, from time to time I come across one that I actually really enjoy. Sold to the King is one such book. I think possibly part of the reason for that is that that's not all that this book is about. Although Izzy sells her virginity to King to be Nassor, the reasons for her doing so are to do with getting to the bottom of a murder mystery and Nassor deciding what kind of ruler he is going to be and how he will live his life. Nassor and Izzy worked well as a couple. I was worried that as he met her through an auction, he might be a little bit overbearing, but almost from the start, he's caring and attentive to Izzy. Although they both have issues from their past to come to terms with, it's Nazzor that is able to accept things between them first, Izzy takes much longer to accept that they can be together and make things work. I really enjoyed this story, Nassor and Izzy had some things to work through, but as a couple, they worked well together and the obstacles in their path didn't feel forced or unnatural. I received a complimentary copy of this book through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
The pleasure of finding a new author to me is always amazing and when you enjoy that first book from that author it's like a cherry on top of the cake. Carmen Falcone and 'Sold to the King' as a couple of things going on
A male that will soon take a heavy burden on his shoulders, decided to have THAT one last dip in decadent fun. Soon his life will not be his own.
A daughter on a mission to bring some peace to her thought and avenge the death of her stepmother. The writer takes us to a country off the beaten path, full of intrigue and secrets steeped deep in tradition almost a world unto itself. Some things the new crown holder wants and will change but he will have a slow go at it. He steps in shoes that some of his people don't want him in. The young beauty has spent her time and money in finding what happened to her stepmother, now just where she wants to be eager to devel into Gwokon and its old stuff rules mainly how women are treated.
How much can he help? how much is he willing to risk for the feelings that are between them. Will she keep fighting for a ghost? or will both of them fight for a new way of life? grab Sold to the King and find out. Enjoy
Sold to the King was a super hot read that I really enjoyed a great deal. It's the story of Izzy Lima, a teacher who puts herself up in a virgin auction to raise money to find out who had her stepmother killed. And Nassor, soon to be king, was at the auction for a last hurrah before responsibility to his kingdom was put on his shoulders. Lawd, he totally was sucked in by Izzy right from the jump, and I'm so glad that he wasn't a total douche, which so many heroes can be with this trope. Nassor was caring, with a big heart for an heir to the throne, and he & Izzy sizzled together. If that wasn't enough, there's obviously suspense since she's determined to get to the truth, so f-bomb dropping twists followed up the hotness. See, Nassor takes Izzy back to the country where her murdered stepmother was found, and she's not about to reveal those secrets to him. And we all know that secrets DON'T MAKE FRIENDS. So, to find out how it all panned out, you'll have to hit that one click button! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Isabela is determined to find who murdered her stepmother. To get the money she needs, she's auctioning herself. Will she succeed? When Nassor Abadu sees Izzy, he wants her. He gets his wish. Now the stage is set! The soon to be crowned King brings her with him to his country, Gwokon. These two are an amazing couple. What starts out as a fling, turns into so much more. They have something special. I was impressed that Nassor actively helped her investigate her stepmother's death. Even though he realized this could have a negative impact on his reign. I liked that Izzy was a strong woman. She was willing to take chances to find the truth. Carmen Falcone has written a passionate romance with a touch of mystery and murder. I liked Kesia, Nassor's mother. She wasn't mean spirited. She made an effort to get to know Izzy. I liked that touch of humanity. Sold To The King was a special story. I received a copy of this book which I voluntarily read and reviewed. My comments are my honest opinion.
School teacher Isabela (Izzy) Lima entered herself in a virgin auction so she can raise more money so she can investigate the death of her stepmother after her body was found in the kingdom of Gwokon. Izzy had already spent her life’s saving searching after being scammed by the last investigator and this would give her more money to search with. Nassor Abadu had traveled to Las Vegas to buy some companionship with his own money before he was crowned the new king of Gwokon and straightening out his new kingdom after his uncle’s abdication. Nassor decided to take Izzy back to Gwokon so he would have more time with her and Izzy hoped she would be able to do some searching while in Gwokon.
Sold to the King is more towards the erotic side of romance but the romance is strong between Izzy and Nassor.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Sexy and hot! Another winner in the Highest Bidder series. Izzy is a very likable character who is in a difficult situation. The only mother she has ever know was murdered, and then that murder was covered up and disregarded. She offers herself at the virgin auction to get the funds she needs to investigate her death and get justice for her mom.
Izzy isn't sure what to expect, but a king from the very country where her mother disappeared never occurred to her. Even more, she never expected to like him or her time in his country. However, the secrets she's kept from him could tear them apart.
This is a quickly moving and engaging story wrapped in lots of romance and spicy sex. If you like your romance hot, you will love this book The author is on my must read authors' list.
To celebrate his last few days of freedom before he becomes the King of Gwokon, Nassor decides to try the virgin auction. And the minute he sees Izzy, he feels a connection so strong that he ends up buying her. Izzy is participating in the virgin auction in hopes of getting money to travel to Gwokon, to avenge her step mothers death. Even after knowing Nassor is from Gwokon, she keeps her truth to herself. But what will happen when the truth comes out ? Bought by the king is a sizzling hot fairytale romance that burn up the pages in a quick yet passionate read. Nassor is the perfect hero, sexy, hot with an endearing vulnerability. A book that I enjoyed and look forward to more from the author.
SOLD TO THE KING by Carmen Falcone is the story of Nassor Abadu and Isabela 'Izzy' Lima . Nassor is to be the King of Gwokon but before taking over he wishes to have some personal time because once he is King his life will greatly change. Izzy was really close to her stepmother who was really the only mother she known. Izzy's stepmother was killed in Gwokon so she wants to go there to research her death and to avenge her Stepmother. Money of course is needed and she decided a Virgin Auction would be the quickest way to earn money. Nassor is the one that ends up 'buying' her and they have an immediate attraction. Nassor takes her to Gwokon to spend more time with her and of course Izzy plans on doing her investigation. This was a spicy intriguing story.
I read the first book in this series (both total standalone) Auctioned to the Greek Billionaire and that was a pretty good book, so that was what I was expecting. Yes, I enjoyed this story, but I knocked down a star because there needed to be some editing done to this book.
This story is a good story, no real struggle with any intense problems, and the characters get along great. Yes, there is a mystery with why Izzy originally goes to the auction and why she needs to go to a certain country. But the struggle is not between the main characters.
If you are looking for an easy read and a sweet romance this is a read for you.
Sold to the King is by Carmen Falcone in the Highest Bidder Series. Izzy is determined to find out what happen to her stepmother after she killed meeting a man in Africa. Izzy find the only way get the money she needs is to sell her Virgin self in the Virgin Auction. Izzy not only get the money need she found out after the auction the future king Nassor who is the one who bid and won her.
The story is hot and steamy. In between the hot and steamy of the story you have romance that grows between Izzy and Nassor. I love that Carmen Falcone has more to the stories. I really like how this story had mystery to it. I like that you got learn about the main characters.
This was a book I had a hard time putting down. Five star!
Carmen Falcone's books are sooo awesome; the background stories are filled with so much info that you get to know her wonderful characters intimately. Her stories can have everything from mystery and thrills to snarky comedy, and as always are hotter than hot. I don't do spoilers, but I must point out that this story actually has its beginnings due to today's real-life tragedy in the human trafficking arena. The book shows that the author doesn't shy away from either real-life issues, to the pleasures of the flesh and the happiness of finding love in the most interesting places and circumstances.
Falcone is not adverse to pushing emotions to the edge in order to deliver an intriguing story. Sold to the King steps over the envelope and into taboo territory. Izzy and Nassor are like fire and ice. The heat is always at the surface, but there never ceases to be a chill in the air. When desperation causes Izzy to go the unconventional route, Nassor ends up being more than her heart could have bargained for. Sold to the King thrives on heat, but within the spice is the heart of a warrior.
I have read Carmen Falcone many times and never get tired of it!
Always well written sexy stories for adults... There is sex, but there is also a real story, a real connection between the characters. I can feel the emotions.
Hot scenes, mystery... the idea of the book was interesting, different, but even though I'm never disappointed in Carmen's books I must admit that "Sold to the King" isn't my favorite one. I wouldn't read it a second time.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC of this book. This is my honest review. All opinions are my own.
When Izzy's adopted mother was murdered in a foreign country, she was determined to find justice. Penniless she decided to auction off her virginity through a reputable house. After thirty days she would be released from her contract with plenty of money in the bank.
Nassor, future King of Gwokon, only had a few weeks before his coronation. He decided to visit the house and possibly have a little fun before he took on the responsibilities of the new king. When Izzy was up for auction, he knew he had to have her. And boy, did she turn his world upside down.
Sold to the King is a beautiful love story with suspense, betrayal, love and steamy scenes.
Sold to the King is not your run if the mill erotic virgin auction story. Izzy is an orphan trying to make money to find her stepmoms killer. Her buyer the King just happens to be the soon to be crowned king of the country her am died in. LOADS of hot steamy sexy scenes with an intriguing storyline. Great read by a great author.
Carmen Falcone does it again. Sold to the King. A Very fast pace, steamy HOT book. It was very refreshing to read about an interracial couple. And the location being a fictional country in Africa was another big thumb up. The chemistry was there from the get go and it was 'boiling', 'sizzling' compelling. I really recommend this story. I voluntarily reviewed this Book and the opinion here are all mine.
This was my first read from Carmen Falcons and I'll be going back to read more. Sold to the King was a good read, more than I was expecting. It had an interesting story line, great characters and more than a few steamy bits. The chemistry between the characters really made this book.
This was a great book that I did not want to put down. The story line and plot were both great. It held my interest by having an equal amount of mystery and romance.
** I received a copy of this book from Net Galley in exchange for a honest review**
Izzy is on a mission to avenge her mother’s death. Nassar is setting out for one last fling. This is a steamy no holds barred story. These two have to bridge a cultural divide and solve a crime to see if they can last together. It is a quick and feisty read that will add spice to your day.
This was my first virgin auction book. I found the story very entertaining. I enjoyed both the heroine and hero, and how they each had their own side story aside from the actual auction. Each character was fleshed out nicely for a short, quick read. Not only did the story sizzle, but there was a splash of mystery that held my attention. Carmen is a go-to author for a short, sizzling, addictive book. Thanks for a great read.
Part of a series, but can be read as a stand-alone. The common factor is the auction ran by Madame Alexa. Otherwise, there are no common aspects, characters, etc.
** There are a few themes that may be difficult for sensitive readers. A high level list is included below. **
I am enjoying this series. It is still within the length considered to be novellas, but a little longer than what I have been reading for a little while. This gives Carmen time to build a better story universe, develop the characters a little more and give me all the ‘feels’ I want from a story like this. I also love the sense of humor placed throughout where possible. There is great chemistry between Izzy and Nassor from the beginning, but each have a hidden agenda, which makes it fun.
I mention the following for readers such as myself, that visualize the story as it is read, because errors interrupt the flow. There are a few grammatical issues such as incorrect punctuation, missing words, typos, incorrect word choices, etc. There is also an intimate scene with inconsistent data concerning, um, body part placement. I uploaded my notes to goodreads for any one interested.
Here is how it all begins: Isabela, aka Izzy, has come to Madame Alexa to sell her first time to gather money needed to avenge the death of her stepmother. Izzy has already exhausted the resources she had accumulated trying to locate her stepmother in S. Africa before her body was found. Izzy knew she was lucky that her stepmother stayed in her life and continued to raise her after her adoptive father died shortly after the two of them married. So Izzy was determined to do what was necessary to find justice for her.
Her stepmother had went to a country it was difficult to find out much information about, but Izzy had heard that quite a few men from there attended and bid on women through the auction. The best case scenario would be if someone from there purchased her. Then maybe she could learn more about the country.
Thoughts about the potential winner brings up her biggest fear and spikes her anxiety. What if no one bid on her? Despite everybody’s assurances, it still felt like a reasonable fear to her. Nobody wanted her when she was younger until her father adopted her when she was 10, so why would it be any different now? Then she gets the word, it is time to begin …
Nassor was in the US on business related to his coronation coming within the next couple of weeks. After that, his life will not be his own, so when he heard about the auction where young women freely chose to sell their first time, he was intrigued. Nassor had to do a few things to get invited. Was he really thinking about bidding on a female? Yes, the idea of being a woman’s first intrigued him.
Then the auction began and Madame Alexa introduced a beauty that was being showcased as ‘The Mother of Dragons’ because she was beautiful and smart. Then Nassor saw her on the stage … he felt an immediate attraction and need. Then he saw the reaction of a few of the other men and knew no one would outbid him. Nassor would win, and then after a night or two, he would release her from her contract and travel back to his country to become King.
Then Nassor won and met her backstage, Izzy, and he knew that one night wouldn’t be enough. He needed the entire month with her, so she had to go home with him to S. Africa …
