They disappeared, and her power is rising. Noa is enjoying one last summer in her beachside hometown before leaving for college when a series of strange occurrences forces her to question everything she thinks she knows about herself, her family, and her future. When her best friend instantly recovers from a near-fatal accident, the long-cold investigation into her family's disappearance is reopened, and a mysteriously alluring new family comes to town, Noa's surging power threatens to consume her. When a captivating stranger begins pursuing Noa, she wonders if his feelings are real – or stem from something potentially more dangerous. As Noa struggles to untangle the increasingly strange occurrences around her and control her rising power, she realizes that her safety – and the safety of those she loves – may be in more danger than she ever imagined. Secrets don't stay submerged forever.
Love a good mystery novel and Surgebound did not disappoint. I was captured from the start by our very likable teen storyteller Noa and the author's ability to feed me just enough information (and vocabulary) to keep my brain spinning. Hmmm, is this a clue? Is that encounter one that I need to remember? These characters seem so real until.... I won't spoil any of this story for you but I can tell you I totally enjoyed the build up to - and the excitement of - that first kiss. More please. With the first book in this new Storm Rising series, the authors Celeste and Ramona have created excitement and anticipation of super-natural suspense, romance, intrigue... This book is full of real teen conversations and 'seemingly' real teen adventures... yet many questions will be left unexplored, I am super ready for Book 2.
Surgebound by Celeste Griffith is a 4.5 star read. Noa is working as a maid at the Reminiscence hotel for the summer before going off to college, on the sixth anniversary of her mother and sister’s disappearance her best friends, twins Jack and Nadia try to take her mind off things and they head out to an abandoned island to check it out. When Jack falls and gets injured something strange happens that leaves Noa with more questions than answers. This is the debut novel from this author and I found that the story flowed well and I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough, I’m really looking forward to the next book. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
I had the immense pleasure of voluntarily reading an ARC of Surgebound. I am in shock, I need more! For the debut novel of a new author this work was amazing. The rollercoaster of emotions between the characters and the notes of romance through tumultuous incidents make a beautiful story that played like a movie in my head. I only wish I had more to read! Really hoping the next installment is on the horizon, not sure how long I'll be able to wait to find out what happens with Noa's story, like, will she find out who she really is? What happened to her family and so on before I give away any spoilers
On the whole, I enjoyed reading this debut novel that left me waiting impatiently for the next book in this series. It took me some time to get into it, though once I was hooked, I didn't put the book down till the end.
I liked the hero and the heroine but for a long time, I wasn't completely sure who the male main character was. Alright, it was rather obvious on the one hand but on the other hand, it didn't really fit. I would have loved some more chemistry and, all circumstances considered, I would have loved to know deep down that these two belong together because they just click and not because of someone else's manipulations.
In some parts, the story seemed a bit rushed and also a bit confusing and sometimes I just wanted to kick our heroine a bit for not realizing...well...things. Despite that, this fast-paced and action-packed book was a great read and I can't wait to read more about Noa and her friends!
This story is about a young girl whose mother and sister went missing when she was 12. 6 years later. She still doesn't know where they are. On the 6th anniversary of their disappearance. Her friends take her on an outing to help keep her mind off of it. When one of them gets hurt. Noa heals them. She has no clue to what had happened. From there, her life changes in ways she never sees coming.
I really enjoyed this story. It's fast paced, and full of mystery. I can't wait for the next book! Would definitely recommend it to anyone
I was a little conflicted when reading this book because Noa reminds me a lot like Sara Gray from the relentless series. Her powers and all. The story is very interesting yet also confusing at times. I wanted to get to know the characters more and Also I don’t really feel the chemistry between the two main characters. I feel like the story was also being rush on important parts. I don’t want to say much because of spoil alerts but all in all it’s a great read and I can’t wait to read more. I’ve received an arc for an honest review.
Ok so Noa, I’ll be honest that spelling bugged me. She’s actually pretty cool, I enjoyed reading from her perspective. To be completely honest about her friendship with the twins... I understand where they’re coming from but also neither of them are being fair to her. I recommend reading this book, but fair warning she is a teenager with a teenagers thought and reaction process (especially about boys).

“Surgebound” is a great start for a debut book for authors Celeste Griffith and Ramona Carter. From the first page it was quite intriguing. Full of mystery, the story line kept me intrigued. These authors have done an excellent job with the writing style and captivating the reader with this book. I was fascinated by the story of Noa as she navigates her summer, just before college, with many strange occurrences and obstacles. I’m very much looking forward to the next book in this series. I’m interested in where the next adventures take Noa in her quest of finding out what and how to control her powers.
What a great start! This is Ms. Griffith’s debut novel and it blew me out of the water! Such great world building, tons of mystery and even some paranormal aspects tossed in. It is the first on a series so some slight cliffhangers at the end. But I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Noa and can’t wait to see how her story continues!
I really enjoyed this book! It’s definitely erudite and I loved the writing. Definitely well written and not for the lowest common denominator, so thank you for that! It’s very different from a lot of other books I’ve read recently, and it took a while to understand what was happening. I felt like the Noa must have felt. WTF is going on?? This is unusual but totally awesome!
I need more. This book had me intrigued from the start. So heavily shrouded in mystery it leaves you grasping for more. At times I did feel like the story was rushed in a couple places and could have used more detail to build more depth especially when it comes to the characters and their bond/relationships but other than that I thought this was a great read. I’m not sure I can wait until the next book to know more, I need answers now! The supernatural aspect was so subtle you don’t even realise your reading a paranormal book and in my opinion those are the best kinds!! I’d love to see how this story progresses. Great debut novel by Celeste. What will she hit us with next? I voluntarily read a advanced reader copy for review.
Surgebound is the first book in a new series by new authors Celeste and Ramona.
We meet Noa on the 6th anniversary of her mother and sister’s disappearance. Her best friends Nadia and Jack want to distract her, everything changes for her that night.
I enjoyed the story, a lot of mystery surrounding Noa and her family that leaves you wanting to know more. I’m interested to see where the next book leads. The book is fast paced which I liked, but feel that it did leave somethings out. Nadia left me a little confused. Looking forward to the next book in series.
