Thor needed a big push into 2020 since Aaron has finally ended his run and who better than Donny Cates? The guy who is basically making every good book at Marvel right now.

Thor is king and he's trying to figure out what to do with himself. What is a king to a God? Well...he seems even a bit bored as he holds the weight of everything on his shoulders. In comes a huge twist and with the arrival of someone, Thor must take his army to stop the Black Winter from coming. This is a exciting step in the right direction for the character with magnificent art and script combined. Let's go Thor 2020!!!!

The madman that is the writer Donny Cates gave Thor his most potent power up ever.

As King of Asgard he was already brimming with the All-Father force; to add the Power Cosmic to that Asgardian recipe just gave Galactus his most powerful herald.

This was the perfect first issue, it gave the readers the impetus to invest in Cates' vision for Thor.

Thor is bored with his reality as the king of Asgard.
Just as he is about to give up on the action and feels like he is losing his powers, something great and terrible happens and he must assemble a force to deal with the consequences.
Great first issue!
Donny Cates knows his stuff. The story is interesting, the art is amazing.
Can't wait to pick up the next one.

"A new creative team at the helm of Thor #1 means that there are some major changes on the way. It’s been a long time since somebody other than Jason Aaron has written Thor’s plot, and it’s safe to say that fans have been curious to see what Donny Cates will bring to the series.

We’ve seen countless variations of Thor; young Thor, Mighty Thor, the king of the future Thor, you name it, it’s happened. That means that Cates had a lot to live up to, and a significant challenge in terms of coming up with something new.

Thanks to the ending of War of the Realms, Thor is now King of Asgard. It’s something he’s always wanted, but you know what they say about achieving your dreams. Sometimes you find out that it isn’t what you wanted all along.

That is the Thor we’re introduced to in this issue, and that is only the beginning of our hero’s troubles. We’ve no doubt that those troubles will double with the days to come. And we’re going to be here to read all about it."

Thor 2020: The Devourer King - Part One: The Black Winter by David Cates was the first installment of a new series about a "retired" Thor, who is now the King of Asgard. I received only the first issue for Free Comic Book Day this year, and I am already finding myself intrigued and wondering what will happen next in this series. The art by Nic Klein was also beautiful. My only complaint was that the lettering and font was difficult to read at some times due to the font choice. But past that, I was happy with this taste of a new series, and I will definitely have to look into it more.

Alright, so Donny Cates just decided to give an All-Father force-filled Thor a power-up. I can deal with that. What kind of power-up will it be?

Galactus made him a herald!?!?

Well, now I have to read the rest of the series. Loved the new rendition of Thor, and it's always fun to read the writer's manuscripts, so we can compare his ideas with the end product.

Not where I thought this would be going, and when I first saw the Thor designs, I was iffy, but this was actually a lot of fun & I am looking forward to the series.

Sets up a lot of interesting things, the first obviously being the cosmic shenanigans with Galactus, the second being Thor coming to terms with being Lord of Asgard– or lack thereof

I do feel like the Black Winter as a concept seems kinda meh… its just what if Galactus but on a larger scale, but im still interested

The art is just beautiful however, no complaints. Soft edges create an almost ethereal feeling that more than delivers the mythological larger than lifeness of Thor, who just look awesome here, his new suit is only shown at the end but im a big fan of it especially in Marvel Rivals (dont like the spikes tho, glad the game removed em)

I also got an incredible variant cover exclusive to my local shop by Derrick Chew which looks so cool

Sejauh ini dari komik Marvel yang kubaca, yang sudah pernah jadi Herald Galactus selain Silver Surfer adalah Deadpool dan Iron Man.
