Have you ever read a book or series where it’s hard to write your thoughts on it? Where all you can think is “It was so good. The characters *heart eyes*. The faith content was amazing. I just love it so much.” Because that’s what I’m currently struggling with. All I can think of is fangirling thoughts.

I adored this book, the growth development and most of all the incredible faith content between Olive and those around her. It’s so refreshing and inspiring to see a group of teens talking about God, their faiths, and sincerely pray for each other, I just love it.

I’m nearly positive that this series is going to be one of my all-time favorites after I read the last book (review next month!) and I’m absolutely tickled pink about it.

Dear Taylor,
What have you done to my heart through these characters?!

Thank you for the laughter. The tears. The lack of sleep. (I was up till 2 AM this morning finishing Barefoot Memories.) Thank you for the emotional rollercoaster. And . . . for writing this series. I related to it on so many levels.

Guys, you MUST to read these books. I didn't think the sequels would compare to the beauty of Porch Swing Girl, but guys, Barefoot Memories is right up there with it. Every single chapter it felt like Taylor was reading my journal.

Olive, Brander, Jazz, and even Malia were going through so many things I am right now. I always get mad at Olive reading these books because I share so many of her greatest weaknesses. I don't usually get mad at characters like that.

But the fear of goodbyes and abandonment and rebuilding parental relationships and figuring out how to be good friends to each other and open up to each other and making decisions about the future and overthinking and learning to hear God and changing dreams and . . . yep, just, this was good. My thoughts are jumbled and I'm still figuring out how to return to reality, but basically, just read this.

The world-building was also beautiful as usual, and I love how we get to explore MORE of the Maui landscape and culture with each book. The backdrop is just so suited for the themes of the books and character's journeys.

I love it. Olive, Brander, and Jazz are back!

This book was an outstanding finish to this trilogy-- the perfect ending! As usual, Olive's friendship with Jazz goes through the rough rapids and they emerge stronger than before. Brander is back, and the way things with him ended... 😍😍😍

Olive grew so much in this book. Yeah, there are still moments where you want to yank her back and wonder if she's crazy, but hey, this is Olive Galloway we're talking about. Her relationship with her father grew so much, too, as well as her faith in God and His plan for her future. Seeing her struggle with making decisions of her own really hit me.

Lastly... the setting. Hawaii is really a wonderful place to set a book in, I'm telling you. ❤️

All in all, I'm really happy with the way things ended and super excited to see what else Taylor will have coming our way!

I read this in a day. Well technically, I used the text-to-speech feature of my Kindle while I worked on a quilt. I enjoyed the story but...I don't know, I just didn't love it like the others. I felt like Jazz wasn't the same and people were assuming the worst of Olive. Also a couple of things just seemed forced. I mean, I'm glad to have read the story, but this just wasn't my favorite.

I sing for who I was, who I am, and who I'm hoping God will let me become. I sing for all of it, because even though my life is nothing like I'd expected it to be, I'm glad for it.

This was so perfectly bittersweet. I read the whole thing in a day, mostly because I couldn't put it down. Taylor's books have such a cozy vibe, like, you go in and you never want to leave. The characters welcome you into the story like you've been there all along, and even though there's conflict, a little Jesus and a little communication (bless!!) can fix any problem. It's fantastic. Comfortable, that's the word I'd use. This series is comfortable. Like a porch swing. ;)

I will never know how Taylor knew to write books that hit exactly on what I'm dealing with, but it had me kinda shook? That it fit my struggles so perfectly and I'm a full 5 years older than Olive? Well, I mean, it's God. Obviously, it's God. Taylor's writing from His heart and it's perfection.

And I just? I love the characters so much? Olive, Jazz, and Brander are the ultimate trio, okay? And Macie? And Gramma? And their dad?? AHH my feels!! It was just a whole roller coaster of emotion and I was there for it. I'm going to miss them so MUCH AHH may I please make a formal request that in a few years we get another book about more adventures with these guys when they're all grown up, pleeeease!

So overall, yes, this was the best one yet. It genuinely solidified this trilogy as one of my favorite contemporaries ever. I can't wait to see what God has in store for Taylor next.

Five shining stars from me.

This book just made me so, so happy... my smile could not be bigger. Literally, when I finished this book, I just smiled. And sighed. And basically wanted to hug my kindle because *happy squeals*

Taylor took me to Hawaii once again... and it was the best. Entering back into Olive’s world felt so good. Reading this series just gives me warm, cozy feelings and they’re just a joy to read. I love it.

I read this at the perfect time in my life. I was able to relate to Olive so, so much. It really touched my heart and I needed it. Dealing with decisions, change, etc... I was nodding a lot because I understood so well.

Can we talk about these characters for a minute?? Because I love them. SO much. They’re my fictional bffs from Hawaii. Sure, Olive is one of those characters you both want to yell at and hug at the same time. I love her though. And I relate to her a lot.
Jazz is just amazing. I mean, she is sunshine. She’s the kind of bestie you want around. She’s so inspiring and really a light.
Brander is like the most adorable guy ever. I love his awkward cuteness and kind heart. And BRANDER AND OLIVE❤️ they’re just cuteness and I love them.
Also, Gramma and Macie are so special.
Olive, Jazz, and Brander’s friendship is so inspiring and amazing. I really like seeing how they talk through things, work through things together. They don’t give up on each other. They truly have something special.

The setting of this book is just wonderful. Every time I open one of these books, I feel as if I’ve been transported into Hawaii and I don’t want to leave.

This brought tears to my eyes quite a few times. Things hit home for me. I smiled so much. I laughed. I was just happy. I felt a lot of emotions.
The faith throughout is my favorite part of this series. It inspires me so, so much. It’s something I find missing in so many contemporary books today and it’s discouraging. I just felt encouraged in this series. These characters go to God with their troubles and they have very relatable struggles. God is in everyone of these books and it’s beautiful.

I loved this book. And that ending!! *fangirls and grins and squeals* It made me extra, extra happy. And I AM SOOO INCREDIBLY EXCITED FOR THE NEXT BOOK TAYLOR IS WRITING. YES, I WANT MORE OF THESE CHARACTERS. THANK YOU!
Lol... *clears throat* Anyways, this book is amazing. I loved it. 💗

Aaaaand I'm finished! That was REALLY good. Especially that ending...*squeals*

Here I am, being all upset that I have to say goodbye to these characters...only to find out that I don't have to! TAYLOR BENNETT IS WRITING A FOURTH BOOK. A FOURTH BOOK, Y'ALL. It's called "Promise Me Aloha!" (Which is an adorable name, by the way.)

I get to spend more time with Olive, Brander, Jazz, and the gang! *sniffs*

Although this was pretty predictable, Barefoot Memories was a lovely conclusion to this series, leaving a warm, happy feeling in my heart and hitting all the right emotions. I love these characters and this story, and I so love the portrayal of friendship and ohana. Contemporaries aren’t my usual genre, but this series is a gem. (And I’m hoping that Taylor’s hint of returning to these characters someday has some merit to it!)

One million stars
(I know that you can't REALLY give a book that many stars, but five stars is not good enough.)
Content will be listed at the bottom
I just love this series more and more the more that I read it. That ending was great!! *sighs* That was so sweet. My only complaint is that I only have one book in the series to read after this, which I'm tempted to not read. I do t want this amazing series to be over. Ever. But, I'm gonna read it anyways, and probably finish it in a day. Less, even.
WRITING STYLE
Smooth first person pov, present tense. I used to dislike this style, but now I love it. If my memory serves me correctly, Porch Swing Girl actually made me change my mind about this writing style. Its the kind that you don't have to think about as you read, and I hardly corrected anything. (That's actually a compliment, because I usually correct EVERYTHING as I read.
CHARACTERS
I loved all of the characters too. Olive has a great character arc, and has changed so much since book one. Its nice to see her grow in her faith, and slowly but surely heal the wound of her mother's death. Jazz is such a fun best friend, and manages to be positive even when she doesn't have any reason to. Like, her moms never at home, she only has one leg, yet she manages to be more positive than Olive at times. And Brander is such a good friend to her too. I was surprised that I did not want there to be romance between the two at first, because Bennett manages to write such good friemdships. When I read that ending I was like, OH. MY. GOSH. THIS IS SO EXCITING!!! I definitely wanted Olive and Brander to have a romance then.
I would definitely not consider this a romance novel, they're only friends 98% of the book. But I loved this book so much! I'd say this series comes close to Christy Miller on my favorites book list.
CW: Jazz's mom drinks, it's viewed negatively, Malia wears bikinis and crop tops, one kiss, undetailed, some non romantic hugging and hand holding, remembering a dead parent.
I'd recommend this book for girls 12+. It's super clean, and (must I repeat this?!) I loved this book. I'm gonna snatch up the next book as soon as I can!! (Probably right when I'm done writing this review!)

A great conclusion to the series

The Tradewinds series is, sadly, now complete. I enjoyed Olive's spiritual journey as she went from being a hurting daughter, grieving over the death of her mother, struggling with the age-old question of how a loving God can allow suffering in the world to a young woman, ready to conquer it!

Barefoot Memories brings Olive face to face with her fears and helps her to learn what it means to put others before herself. And as she begins to get her eyes off herself, she is confronted with a decision that will change the rest of her life. She also has to learn how to discern God's will. While the first half of the story felt like Olive was overly centered on just herself, this was addressed well.

I loved the conclusion to this story. While it merely hinted at what will be coming next for Olive, it was satisfying and brought closure to all the areas that needed it.

One quibble I had, though, is related to a "realization" that Olive had that her mother would always be watching over her. This made me cringe in a big way because it is not a concept taught in scripture. Can you imagine how painful it would be when this life is over if you "got" to watch your loved ones going through their various trials here on earth? Yuck!

Aside from that small point, I can recommend this story for all who enjoy young adult fiction.

I. Love. This. Book.

That's all because there don't need to be any warnings, though there is one kiss that I found so super sweet.

I highly recommend you read this book!

Olive, Jazz, and Brander are some of my favorite characters in a long time, I really loved getting to follow their stories through this series, I cannot wait until the final book comes out!

I was excited to read the last book in this series. This author is extremely talented at making each character unique, and relatable. They all felt like real people, especially since each of their struggles carry on from book to book. They never magically disappear, which made it feel like you were reading a story about someone's real life.
For some reason though, I never really clicked with the storyline in this one. I got rather frustrated that Olivie never seemed to slow down and really listen for God. She just goes around fuming that she can't hear him. And then they pulled out my least favorite explanation ever: "Maybe God just wants me to make this decision on my own." *Bangs head on table* No. Just no. God's not just going to leave you stranded about huge life decisions. I hate it when people explain away silence with this.
I did love the hinted romance. It is delightfully light, and mostly just hinted at for the future.

Overall, a good conclusion, but not my favorite of the story's. 3.5 stars.

This last book is BY FAR my favorite of the three! This book teaches more great lessons about friendship and trust. I love that Olive decides, as a New Years' resolution, to move past her grief and live life more fully, including improving her relationship with her dad. And once again, Olive's story reminds me that even when I think I've learned my lesson and figured out my Christian walk, God comes back remind me how much more I have to learn.

This book really struck a chord with me since I'm in the same stage as Olive--trying to figure out my future and what I want to study after high school. And of course, I can't end this review without mentioning the romance! That ending . . . *happy sigh* It's so perfect! I love that Brander asks her to wait for him!

I LOVED this trilogy so much and I can't wait to read the fourth book about Olive and Brander, which *drumroll* features their WEDDING!! I am SO excited!

Barefoot Memories is book 4 in the Tradewinds series by author Taylor Bennett. The setting is present-day Maui.

Olive’s mom passed away a year ago, she is still trying to make her dad proud of her. She’s made a bucket list and hasn’t met her goals. Will this be the year she completes her short bucket list?

I don’t usually read Young Adult but I like the clean, straightforward writing of this author. I also like this quote found on page #38: “Maybe sometimes, if we want to cross the ocean, we have to have the courage to jump in the boat and start rowing.”

This series is perfect for the Young Adult group. It would also be perfect for book clubs. This is the last book in the series and can be read as a standalone, and I hope to see more of these characters in a future series even as I close with tears in my eyes.

As a gift to readers, there is a recipe for “Jazz’s Favorite Key Lime Pie” at the end of the book. I would definitely purchase this series for my friends and recommend it to fans of Young Adult.

"Barefoot Memories" is the third full length book in the Tradewind series. It would be best to read the first two books and novella before reading this book as you will get a better understanding of what is going on. There are good biblical truths woven through the story and we see the characters working to do what God wants them to do. I enjoyed being able to spend time with Olive, Jazz, Brander, and the rest of the characters again. I found the book to be well written with realistic characters and emotions. I am a little sad that we won't get to hang out with Olive any more, but I did like the ending of the book/series. Maybe Taylor Bennett will do another novella so we can get a peek into their lives again. I look forward to seeing what else Taylor Bennett comes out with in the future.

A perfect ending to a perfect series. <3

I can't even express how much I love these characters. They've become real to me. But more than that, they've become my friends.

Taylor weaved so much truth and healing into this book. It was like she could see where I was struggling better than I could and walked me through it like a dear friend. Some chapters left me in tears, but now I find myself a little stronger and a little more whole. And that's a beautiful thing.

My heart aches at the thought of leaving this series behind. I'm not sure what I'll do without it. However, I can't wait to see what Taylor comes up with next, for she is a masterful storyteller. :)

A great way to wrap up the trilogy. In this book Olive, the series heroine, is faced with a decision as to whether to go to Harvard or not where her father is a professor. He's also on the board which makes the decisions as to which students will attend the University or not. He's impressed with the essay Olive wrote for her college entrance exam. Her friend Brander returns from Tennessee and is mobbed by a group of people at the airport. He's not sure as to whether continue in the music industry or not.

I enjoyed every second reading Barefoot Memories! Taylor's words are golden and God is glorified throughout the book! I was on my toes in suspense and I couldn't be happier with the ending! It was bitter-sweet finishing this book, and I'll miss Olive, Jazz and Brander, but it was an amazing story and I loved every minute I spent in Barefoot Memories!
I'm going to stop talking now before I give away all the details, but everyone: GO READ THIS BOOK!!!!!!!!!
I can't wait to see what Taylor Bennett has up her sleeve for future books!

Fun summer read!

Wow. The last book in a great series! Well written and a story that kept me up way too late!:) I fell in love with the characters and setting. Such a refreshing read compared to other teenage novels out there. It reminded me of the "Christy Miller series" which is another highly enjoyable series!! And this series made me laugh and was full of reminders that God cares for us so very much. This will be a favorite series for sure! Well done Taylor!!!

Shave ice, paddleboarding, fangirling over a celebrity, and a crush on a best friend. Yet another cute Tradewinds story that brought both tears and laughter. Macie is definitely my favorite part. The ways she's able to cheer up Olive with her funny remarks and cuddles reminds me of my siblings. Also, I'm a huge fan of Olive and Brander. I can't wait to read "Promise me Aloha"! Jazz's struggles in this particular story made her feel more real to me.

I think this was my favourite of the series. I think this spoke to me about listening to God more and letting Him guide me. We all make mistakes. Also, how important it is to have Godly friends.
I hope there will be a continuation of this series soon.

A little bit of a weird section where it says that people we love live on in our hearts forever kind of like Jesus is with us (I totally disagree and, yes, I've lost a close loved one), but otherwise I'm really liking this series.
