Vom Himmel verschmäht (Der unglaubliche Mr. Brownstone 2)

Rate this book

Another enjoyable installment. I like the slowly developing relationship between Shay and James, no matter what the relationship eventually will be. Shay and Alison are a good influence on Brownstone but he still kicks a**. Plenty of testosterone, shooting and blowing things up but Shay can give as good as anyone and uses her brains as well to partner with Brownstone as anything but an inferior.

In this series, we learn so many things about Alison's past, the stakes are higher!
This series is such a refreshing one to read compared to some of the other series in this universe.
The mexico travelling was meh, pretty boring in my opnion. Shay and James balance eachother out and I have mixed feelinsg regarding how Shay immediately thinks James is gay because he doesn't flirt with her and because of certain characteristics, I laughed yet was also annoyed.

Not a bad start to the book, but most of Shay and Brownstone’s trip to Mexico was fairly boring, even the big fight was punctuated by inane banter.
Fortunately the story became more interesting towards the end of the book and was enough to make me wanted to read the next one in the series.

I Love Me a Man With Warrior Scars!! Shows honor and bravery, and great bullshit stories as to how he got them. LOLOLOL
I can't be any happier than to hear that you are planning at least 26 more books around Brownstone and Shay. Even some about the Kid, How he became a bounty hunter, and about Shay. This series is a side-by-side race with Bethany Anne! (I have her really high on a pedestal, now I'm building one to match for Mr. Brownstone!) Keep em coming!!!!!
On a side note: Since reading all of your work, and those you have chosen to write with, my outlook of how I see the people in my world. Mostly I see generous, honorable people. Some are not. Thank You for sharing your gift, but more for waking me up to this world I'm living in. I love it when the people I care about tell me lies ... that turn out not to be lies, but lots of encouragement. I wonder how many other people's lives you have changed out there? It's just the icing on the cake.

Brownstone now has a young lady to support, what is he going to do? He requests a special Oriceran artifact the Professor is willing to trade, for a price.

Shay is willing to help, so long as everyone understands her help is not free. Brownstone will do whatever it takes to help Allison, and while he is at it? The orphanage that helped him is insolvent. Time to get tricky when the church can’t accept funds from blood projects.

Magical criminals, thugs and bounty hunters, it’s time Brownstone works on the simple life again.
If you decide Brownstone is your ticket to godhood, you had best hope you don’t threaten his family. Because that is a career limiting move. Self proclaimed god or not.

Brownstone likes his life simple, but when a bounty starts burning up cops, He decides that it’s time to take out the trash – if he can.

NOTE: This book contains cursing. Perhaps humorous cursing, but cursing nevertheless. If this offends you, I don't suggest reading this book.

4 I Now Pronounce You Man And Truck Stars

Rejected By Heaven is the second book in The Unbelievable Mr. Brownstone series by Michael Anderle.

It's nice to see other sides of James Brownstone. Specifically, his love and care in his new rope as Guardian for Allison. He goes above and beyond, so naturally, and yet still questions his own true nature. A lot of that is tied to the mystery of his own origins. But, I can't help feeling empathy for this character as his struggles to discover more about himself, while protecting so many.

I imagine that's enough proof he's Oriceran in some way. I just don't enough about all of these races to guess which ones he could even be, I only enough to know he's none of the ones I've heard of yet. The necklace he's had since he was a child must be an important factor in discovering where he originates from, and what type of Oriceran he is. It's almost ironic how apprehensive he is about the spread of magic and magical races. But he doesn't seem to want to jump to the obvious conclusion. I'm sure we will find out soon that the necklace is whispering to him in some language native to Oriceran.

I wonder what Zoe was talking about when she mentioned the darker elves seen at the kemana? Could their appearance, in some way, be tied to Allison and her mothers Drow heritage? Or was this a hint to his nature? I wish more of the characters would just outright state, instead of always obliquely hinting...

I'm honestly surprised nothing came of Grayson or the Hiraken in this novel. I suppose we will have to wait a little longer for them to seek their retribution?

Yes, Mr. Brownstone!

After reading the first book, I kept thinking James reminded me of someone. Took to halfway through this book for it to click. One of my favorite movies and its sequel is The Boondock Saints. Two Irish brothers who fight for the morality of this Earth despite the legal aspect. Their first scene is of them walking in a Catholic church while a priest is giving his sermon, they walk right up to Christ on the crucifix, kneel, pray and turn and walk out, the priest and congregation barely reacting, letting the audience know the church is behind them. It would be nice if we lived in a world where truly evil people didn't get away with their acts do to money or a technicality, but this is not the world we live in. Mr. Brownstone gives me another outlet for my vigilante fantasies, I'm 51 and full of arthritis so fantasies is all I have. I like to fantasize there are people like James and Shay out there who would protect my three daughters and son, all under the age of 30, from people intent on harming them. I am loving the Mr. Brownstone books and can't wait to read more!

I simply can't put these books down!

Book one hooked me, immediately, but this book grabbed me by the neck, threw me on a motorbike, and took me roaring down the highway, to start a journey that has no ending, as yet.

I'm totally loving James, Shay, Alison, and all the other cool, and not so cool, characters within this series.

I'm loving the slow, but steady, changes that are happening in all their lives, as they learn to feel what it is to build a real family, with all its edginess, as well as it's comfort.

I can barely see where it's heading right now, but the glimpses I'm getting, as that roaring motorbike takes me on this journey, means that I just know it's going to be a humbdinger of a journey - and the end?

Well, I look forwards to whatever that is, but I'll just enjoy this amazing ride while I can!

So, book two is done, and it's time for me to start book three: 'Eye For An Eye'. So, once I've finished this, I'll catch you on the flip side, and let you know what I think about it!

Brownstone has a heart too

I feel like I am missing some background still. I don't know if there was a series before this one but I sure feel like I am missing something. Unlike the story but I feel like I m supposed to know some things. I thought this was the first in the series about Allison. I did read the book prior to this one but maybe I don't remember enough. The ending was good. Loved the park scene. I would have liked a bit more about what happened at parents weekend. James is obviously clueless about what infinity the opposite sex. Maybe he should be asexual? He's not but It was a thought out of no where. I don't know about the priest. Still trying to figure this out. Will see what happens in future books maybe everything will fall in place. Considering the school of necessary magic was more than 4 books. Things have changed. Off to a new adventure hopefully free of king pyro.

Awesome read

Michael you have done it again!!!!
I'm so in love with the Oriceran world, you and Martha and all the authors of the Oriceran books have become my top favorite authors! 15 books in now and these two books just took me to another whole level. The characters are "so could be neighbors down the street", but not.....the in your face sass and what the hell are you talking about, along with the infamous barbecue can't wait to read the next book!
I'm gonna need to read slower or you need to write faster🤓
just kidding kinda, I have talked the ears of everyone that these are the best books I've read in a long time, they are packed with magic, humor, and great characters and I would want to live in one or any of your and Martha's books!

Anderle is back!

You can usually tell when a book in the "universe according to Anderle" is either totally written by him. Some of his writer cadre aren't bad, a couple are pretty good, but none are as good as the boss - Martell comes very close...

Looking like a good series in store - hopefully most written by MA. Very much in the tone of the QB and Michael books (BA is totally awesome, and the Dark Angel is right there with her).

Anyway, if you enjoy mayhem and lots of cursing, along with dark and conflicted characters, grab these and enjoy the read - I will... hmm - maybe I've read too much Conroe, but I wonder if James might be an A... no, probably not.

I am sad to note that this book immediately keeps on going beating the dead horse of "racism bad!".
Yea, we know. It's just a lame bad-guy motivation. It's almost as stupid as the thankfully almost extinct trope of fighting literal ww2 nazi officers. Please stop. It's clichée and it was already cheap and stupid before it even became a clichée.
I just praised how the bad guy motivation was for once based on actual realistic power dynamics but no, it wasn't to be. It's just arrogant nazis again.

I dropped this book very early on so there might be some twist in it all but I very much doubt it.

Cooking up a storm

I have to ask myself how is Magic Mike able to think of so much stuff to write about and , make it so damn readable , I find myself stuck in his universe waiting for the next great read . Mr Brownstone is a lovely read good plotting and fun characters . Urban fantasy is a genre you either love or loath and The group of authors buzzing around the "Anderle Universe " is a testament to his ability to entertain . If you finish a book with a satisfied smile and a hunger for more then job done .

Family Will Mess With Your Head, Mr. Brownstone

James Brownstone, the human tank, has somehow acquired a family. Allison the 15 year old orphan girl is his ward and Shay, her self appointed Aunt, and Brownstone's sometimes partner have fallen under his protection. He begins to miss them when they are not around. I like the action, snarky humor, and how clueless he is about close relationships. Will Shay and Brownstone figure each other out? What is his magic necklace trying to tell him? I look forward to the next book.

Excellent

So first of all it takes forever to get to the review page with all the other stuff before but this series is worth it. Love James and his kiss policy and how it continues to get over run with complications. Shay is also amazing can’t wait to read about her beginning . Alison is an incredible character as well. In 2 books I’m already hooked and invested in all their futures. James fear, sheys confusion and poor Allison no mom or dad but got so lucky having James looking out for her

Planet James

K.I.S.S. May be James' watch letters, but family has a way of complicating a simple life. James is starting to get an idea that his comfort zone is going to have to stretch . I am enjoying this series of multiple authors sharing a universe. I don't know how all the characters, time periods & dramas continue to form a tapestry. But somehow they do that very entertainingly. Since I often read multiple books at a time, this scheme keeps me from getting lost 'in space'! FUN!

Action movie?

Reminds me of a mindless action movie, the kind you watch when you don’t want to think too much., which, for what it’s worth, isn’t bad. I wasn’t too impressed with the 1st book, mostly because it deserved more Allison and less Shay, as in Shay should had been killed off as soon as she was introduced. I still feel the same way. Will I continue with the series? Most likely. I’m currently in a reading rut. I want to read but nothing too serious, so it’s either this or wannabe Hallmark novels.

Left me hungry for barbeque.

I love how frustrated Shay is about his lack of interest in hitting on her. Some of the descriptions make meet giggle out loud, then I have to read it to my mom to let her in on the witty banter! Only downside, it leaves me hungry for barbeque, especially brisket since I'm a born and bred Texan, but my Dr. Has taken a hard stance and firmly told me no red meat, ribs and sausage just isn't the same.

Fantasy

Enjoyed this book better than the first. Characters are becoming more and more interesting and like able. The story line in my opinion needs to be a bit more adult level story telling! Foul language doesn't make it more adult like! I like swearing as much as the next guy but how about giving the story line a bit more substance! Overall I enjoyed the book and would read the next one.

Another 5 star review I forgot to leave the first time(s) I read it

Either a gremlin ate my previous review or for some unknown reason I was too lazy to leave one no matter how many times I have read this which is more than one and less than my age.
Once again apologies to the author for being a leech and not acknowledging the joy the brownstone series has given and keeps on giving.

Another fast paced, action filled rollercoaster. More mystery and more excitement are present here. From a quick and deadly fight with a necromancer to a all out battle with a pyromancer there is something for everyone in this book.

Overall, a wonderful read and an easy one. Michael Anderle continues to impress and I am already diving into the next Brownstone novel. Hopefully the next will continue to be as good as the first two, if not better.

2nd book in series.....Totally awesome....

James Brownsstone is not your average hero, he has his faults but still
cares for others. Shay, his "sometimes partner" is also flawed, but is just as intriguing as James. Alison is a 15 yo orphan that James has brought into his life....she will prove to be very interesting as well.....magical

Now the story is getting good!

I look forward to the next book in this series, which means this story and characters are great. I have been know to read the first book in a series and forget about it.
I won’t be forgetting about this one. I can’t wait to see where the story goes.

Brownstone rocks

No he's not handsome or a chick magnet, but he likes barbeque, keeping things simple and those he thinks of as family. Although he's not sure how, he's able to take down magical bad guys of extraordinary power. The bounties are just frosting on the cake. I've thoroughly enjoyed the first two books.

Cooked Low and Slow

The pacing is throttled down in this book, allowing for richer character development. We learn more about pretty much everyone and also gain more insights into the plot. Not to worry though: there’s still plenty of action to grease the interest. Nicely done - looking forward to the next book. Recommended.

Damn, I really seem to find so much to enjoy in Michael's writing

A new series, and I'm already looking forward to the linking of the three characters stories, etc. It has interesting characters, unusual situations, links to various mythologies, good research, etc.

I was intrigued to find where the story wss graded, and it didn't disappoint.

Great male lead, not so great female lead

I would have given this a five, but the female lead remains shallow and obsessed with her looks and every man wanting to tap her. Brownstone remains a good read and I will pick up the next book. However, I hope the author does a better job writing from the female perspective.

Burn baby burn

A zombie and a fire starter walk into a bar.................. I Loved the storyline but I am sorry to say this , I don't like barbeque. It always repeats on me.
I want More of these stories and to see the growth of the character.
I look forward to the next one in the series.
