Rate this book
Hermione lives with her father, and although they sometimes struggle to make ends meet, she has taught herself to be content with her life. She doesn't mind that she has no friends in town or that there are vicious rumors about her. She does, however, wonder if she will ever be truly happy and find real love. When she is unexpectedly invited to marry a Lord she has never met, she can't help but wonder whether she could find her other half by his side. But can she really trust her mysterious husband-to-be? Or is there a secret hiding behind his choice to marry a woman of humble origin?

Lord Fisher has spent the last few years holed up in his manor house, away from prying eyes. Although his heart is made of gold, he feels that his soul and his face are not fit for the world outside... He tries his best to manage the lands his father left him and find a purpose in life, until he decides it's finally his time to get married. In despair, he sends his secretary to find someone eligible, but never would he expect to find a lady with a good heart and a strong mind to accept his proposal. But can this delicate woman bear his well-kept secret? Or will she flee taking away his last hope to experience genuine affection?

True love knows no bounds, but Hermione and Lord Fisher are condemned to find many obstacles between them. Will she discover a way to help him cure his trauma, and change his heart? And will he trust her, even when things seem to be falling apart?

The formatting in this ebook is terrible.

The author doesn't indent. Instead, new lines have a double spacing in between. I'm guessing it's why the book appears to be nicely long; the majority of the pages are filled with double spacing between small blocks of text.

Kind of like GoodReads reviews.

I won't be reading. The poor formatting in 2020 is unacceptable.

487 pages. Take out the extra spaces between the paragraphs and you'll probably be left with 300??

This is a KU book. It's not 'free' - the author gets paid for the number of pages read and I am NOT NOT NOT reading 'blank spaces' put in a book to pad out the page count so the author can scam readers.

I stopped reading at 1% when this was the entire content of one page: ( I will say that I have the font set fairly large on my Kindle, but even at a perfectly normal font size the spacing is horrendous!)

"It is," he said with a shrug. "Sorry. But perhaps next week?"

"That's alright," she said with a smile. "Do you think they are for the king?"

Jules paused and then turned a bit pale.

No more. I'm done with tolerating authors who milk the system.

An engaging story with an amazing cast of unpredictable characters.
The story line was fine and held my attention. The twists and turns just seemed to come naturally.

Historical or hysterical?

There was very little 'history ' in this story, except that imagined by the author. It is a shame because it was reasonably well written as regards spelling and grammatical construction. This author has the characters refer to biscuits as cookies! And the characters seem capable of travelling through time - one of them referring to Catherine of Aragon's death as having occurred only 30 years before (Tudors?) Another character advises someone to 'ring your doctor'. Oh dear, oh dear. The carelessness of these inaccuracies makes the reader loss confidence with the sincerity of the author.

Such a sweet delightful romance between an outcast commoner and a Lord. I loved each and every character. There is one minor villain in this story. It is also a clean romance. It highlights the comparability of the H/h. It focusses on the family feud between the H and his younger brother. I especially felt the h's character was so sensible and logical. She grew up being the target of rumors that were not true and treated ill because she was dirt poor. However, that made her a stronger person and self-reliant. She always took time to look at each problem and see the best way through it. She has a positive general approach to life and she can't help that she affects all that surround her. The H had a normal life growing up until a deadly fire took the life of his father but he was able to rescue his mother. He suffered burns on his face and body. He felt ugly and withdrew from society. He sends his dear friend and estate manager to search for a wife for him. That was how he and the h got together. Sight unseen they agree to marry. From the moment the h met the H she thought he was a handsome kind man. She was enthralled by his eyes and what they told her. The H was a kind and considerate man; good to his servants and treated them with the respect they deserved. Even though he was a Lord the book never told if he had a title or not. This book covers the unending feud and conflict in the H's family and it covers the kind considerate way the H gave the h time to get to know him before consummating the marriage. This is an interesting book. It held my attention and endeared me to the characters. The extended epilogue was the icing on the cake. What a wonderful book.

Started with promise but had to quit reading it

The story began wonderfully. But instead of focusing on Hermione's new life and marriage, the storyline goes ad nauseum into Hermione's attempts to fix Ian's relationship with his brother, Jonah. I quit reading this novel on p. 408. I just could not take any more of the repetitious statements and all of the unbelievable mush and drivel. The author made some serious beginner writer mistakes with telling over and over and not showing or infering things to the reader. There is no reason the Jonah situation had to be drawn out over 300 pages. There are other story lines, such as the one with Barrow that could have been addressed sooner. The editor of this novel did the writer a great disservice. If only the plot that the book started with was followed, this review could be very different. Also, Hermione acts like a codependent fixer while Ian acts like a weak, damaged, and wishy-washy, immature teen--definitely not the type of male character a mature woman wants to read about. And none of the characters behave or speak as people of that time and setting would. Bottom line- don't waste your time reading this if you are used to reading really good literary works.

Great Read

Beautifully written plot and characters. An horrific incident destroys the loving relationship between 2 brothers. They mourn differently and each does not understand the other's feelings, so they become estranged as their resentment for each other deepens. The older brother asks his secretary to find him a wife, who will fit his ideal. The Lady is beautiful and pure of heart and sees him as man with great character, although very sad. She agrees to the marriage. She also acts as a buffer between the 2 brothers looking at both sides. Her goal is to unite them. A wonderful story of misunderstandings, love, empathy, kindness, loyalty, trust and romance. Love how the story evolved, continued, and resolved. Wonderful read. Highly recommended.

A commoner and a Lord.
Hermione is a commoner who lives with her father. Because of a evil man she has gained a questionable reputation. She wonders if she will ever marry. Her father comes home one day to tell her he has made a match for her with a wealth Lord who is shy and lonely. She accepts because her father knows her and who she would be happy with. She is very smart and reads and writes well which is not a quality most commoners possess.
Ian, Lord Fisher hides away in his estate because he feels like the world will be afraid of him or be repulsed by him.
This is a great story with wonderful characters. I know you will enjoy it as much as I did.

A sweet and thoughtful romance

The beginning portion of the story, that occurs mostly in Hermione's thoughts before she travels to meet her fiancee, went slowly for me. Once at Lord Fischer's home the dialogue and interaction between them, and with the other characters, became more and more interesting. The characters and family issues were realistic, and gave depth to the various interactions. I was pleased that I had continued reading the story and will likely read following books.

The book is full of heartache, drama, and hope.
What a truly delightful story Hermione is a character that you just cannot help but be impressed with. Her life has not been easy yet she has managed so why not have fate step in and offer something so different yet perhaps so much better. Lord Fisher is another character you cannot help but like. He lives alone shut off from the world. This beauty and beast tale was full of grand twists that kept me fully engaged. I highly recommend this gem.

This story of Hermione and Lord Fisher has definite signs of "Beauty and the Beast" throughout the pages. This was a very slow moving, but relatively enjoyable story about a planned marriage set in REGENCY England. Although the pages are filled with such peril, sadness and confusion it does conclude with a beautiful HEA and a story that will leave you smiling.
I received an ARC copy of this book. This is my voluntary, honest and completely personal review.

Sweet story

This was a short sweet story. The story came up short, what was called the epilogue, was just another chapter that did not complete the main story line. In order to read the true epilogue you have to give over your email signing up for newsletters from the author. Also, the formatting is terrible. Making every one of possibly two sentences a paragraph and inserting four spaces between every paragraph creates too much negative space.

Sweet and Clean Romance

I enjoyed the story a lot. I do think that the conversations could be a little wordy but probably a bit more accurate to how they would have really spoken. Though the “steam-level” is never hotter than a kiss (and not even the French kind), the story is not lacking passion. It is just presented in a more restrained fashion. I would recommend this book for anyone looking a bit of sweet and clean escapism.

Family troubles

This is a beautiful story about a young couple trying to make their arranged marriage work. Things are not helped when his brother comes home and starts fighting right away. Things finally come to a point where a major decision must be made for all parties involved to be happy again.

Decent idea

This was a good idea of a story but there where times when little things in the time line didn’t make sense. It was as though Lady Fisher had o log been there for a day but then something was said that implied she had been their longer. However it is still a nice regency romance. An almost too perfect match of people. A nice afternoon read.

I found this to be a wonderful story about two people who are, on the surface, opposites. Hermione had so many things working against her. Lord Fisher had an easier life. As a young man, he was burned in a fire and that was the reason he had his secretary find him a bride. This story speaks of love that people, for whatever reason, feel unworthy of yet it's there.

Take a chance on love

Hermione and Lord Fisher were a match made in heaven. Even though they had never met, they both took a chance on each other for a love that lasts forevermore. Extended epilogue shows more of their love in their child and visits with family.
Loved the story and the strong female character.

Great read

The only thing wrong with this story is the, EXTENDED EPILOGUE! Do you see any of the greatest authors have extended epilogues? No you do not. I would have loved to read the rest of the story b u t I ABSOLUTELY refuse to go download it. Put it in the original book or add it into the sequel with his brother and Mary main characters. That would be nice.

LOVE, MARRIAGE, SIBLINGS

4 STARS for this Historical Regency Romance Era Drama about marriage between 2 people of different classes with a little bit of the Beauty & the Beast in the story. It is delightful to read however I left the final star off because to me it seemed some of the things in the story were left hanging or some were dragged out to long.

Excellent Read

What a great story. The characters drew you in as you get acquainted with each one. To see a beautiful young lady from a poor family in finances but strong in character and wisdom is a breath of fresh air. She looked at the scarred Lord with spiritual eyes & into his heart. Highly recommend this book for a heart warming story.

Inside out

The only negative that I had in reading the book was speaking and grammar errors. I am by no means good at English but I noticed a lot of mistakes. Despite that the story is refreshing and quite enjoyable. I liked that the story isn’t about all their life before the wedding but i includes before and after. A great story about beauty from the heart.

But the book i would read again.

I enjoyed this book sometimes books have to many words and they dont flow well so the reading is off or the written doesn't read right so i would like for the publication to read before publishing to see the flow of words if you may need to remove words or refraise to make the words more naturally spoken

Interesting!

An unexpected match between a wealthy nobleman and a servant's daughter. Apart from her humble origins , Hermione is a strong and resourceful young woman whose kind and forgiving heart mends the dissent from two brothers. Ian, a tormented soul finds his peace and, in the end a family.
The story tends to repeat itself with the marriage of Ian's brother.
