Monsters exist in perfect worlds, too. Iota Nine. A floating city created for the elite—the upper crust of the Earth survivors after the world wars. In this wonderful, dream-like land there’s a lot to live up to, especially when your father is a genetic scientist. But what if there’s always been a dark secret in the family?
Kieran: He feels the pull the first time he sees her but there’s no way she’ll feel the same. She’s graceful, a princess of the highest class. She’s never been tainted by the ugliness that created Xeno Sapiens. But she also has never seen their species and the first word she utters before passing out is monsters. What will she think if she sees him, a monster caught between two worlds, his and hers?
He has no chance to find out when she’s given to another.
Alannah: She never knew another species existed in the world. Her elegant world consisted of neutrality; a place where everyone looked the same. Except for her, but that was Alannah’s horrid secret—something never to be referred to out loud. It was a price anyone would pay—a lack of childhood, sickly health, constant pain. And another secret.
How can he want her when she’s damaged goods?

I really enjoyed this particular Xeno Sapiens story by Rena Marks! My paranormal favorite books all star shifters, mainly werewolves, so Damaged Goods had the perfect story line. Keiran is stuck between two worlds; more animal than man. He works at the prison area, apart from the rest of the Xeno Sapiens. He considers himself a monster. Alannah grew up privleged, and in pain. Her family is hiding a secret from the world with medicines that cause her pain. When she is taken to Xenia for protection, she detoxes from the meds. And forms a sweet bond with a "large dog." Can Keiran get over his animal instincts and can Alannah stay and learn to love him? Only time will tell...

This book, y'all! Alannah's mother reminds me of the evil stepmother in Cinderella! But her sisters are the sweetest girls. And Keiran, he's one, hot werewolf that's denying himself the most precious prize, Alannah. Damaged Goods was a great weekend read! 4.5 stars

Lady Alannah Holland had been set up by her boyfriend, Lord Wilson Nolan, and was in danger of his coming after her regarding illegal drugs. Jason Becker and Shawn Tanner, who had arrived with a warrant and found the drugs, but they now had to take her to Xenia for her protection until Nolan was caught. Alannah was horrified. She’d never been on any city other than the tightly regulated Iota Nine. Going to the crass Earth-Ground, where actual creatures existed, actual dirt covered the ground, and disease was in the unfiltered air! She would almost prefer prison! Before they got her to safety, a contract from the underground had been put out on her life.

Kieran is stuck between two worlds of animal and human. He works on the prison grounds, separate from the other Xeno Sapiens. When Alannah arrives, he immediately feels the “pull” and knows she is his mate. He tells Amanda she is his, but she has already put Alannah in the protection of two others, and it forces Kieran to shift and run away in his distress.

Vien and Potierre were caring for Alannah at their home and Kieran kept watch on her from the trees. But suddenly he heard a thought in his head, “Who is out there?” She sensed him! She had telepathic ability which had gone away with her increased drugs, but it was returning now that they were out of her system. She brought food out for her “dog” and then took him to a pond to bathe him. He curled up next to her to keep her warm as they dried in the sun. He knew he already loved her.

Alannah’s bond with her "dog" is very strong. Will Keiran figure out how to change back to his human side, when he is so terrified of her rejecting his scarred body? Will Alannah by then learn to love the man he is as much as she loves her “dog”?

I really enjoyed this book. There is so much more going on, secrets and such, but I thought I should save the surprises for your own reading pleasure. Grab a copy and enjoy this really good book. I’m definitely hooked on the Xeno Sapiens stories!

This is another great story by Rena Marks and a great addition to the Xenosapiens world. It is very well written and engaging. This story sucked me in and wouldn’t let me go until I finished it. Even then I wanted more of that world.

You don’t have to have read the others to enjoy this book, but the world-building that has been done up to this point would help you understand everything a lot more.

This book is about Lady Alannah who was set up by her boyfriend/fiancée to take the fall for his crimes. The Xenosapiens take custody of her to help protect her from her fiancée and find out the truth of what happened. It is a plot line that is carried from a previous book which would make more sense if you read the others in this series.

The storyline is a little Cinderella-esque in that Alannah’s life has been very much parallel to the famous princess we al know. Evil mother with two sisters. The sisters turn out to be pretty cool in the end though after they stand up for themselves.

Through the book we find Alannah growing and accepting herself for who she really is and not what the ideals are of Iota 9.

The hero of this book is Kieran, a Xenosapien who has been severely mistreated in the past. He is a shape shifting Xenosapien who had been
abused so severely in the past that he learned to live in mid shift fashion. He didn’t think anyone would learn to love him with his “hideous” appearance.

The main characters learn to love themselves and each other throughout the book. But to find out how, you’ll have to read the book. I promise you won’t be disappointed!

Damage Goods
by Rena Marks

In this new installment of the Xeno series, I found it reminds me of Cinderella, with a evil mother, mean sisters and forced to endure a arranged marriage, with a immature man.

The female characters in this story are the Lady Holland’s from the floating city of Iota Nine. Lady Alanna’s Holland was always a sickly child, requiring a large dose of Vitamin B. She was raised with her sisters Lady Anastasia and Danielle by their mother Lady Cynthia after the death of their father Lord Oliver Matthews Holland.

When Alanna was brought to Xeno to ensure her safety, she was placed with Vien and Potierre as her sponsors. But, Kieran finds this unacceptable, and even in his deformity he wants her for himself. In his intense anger he transforms into his wolf shape. Something that hasn’t happened in many years. But can he become the human she needs?

When her sisters and mother arrives can they get the answers they needs, and why won’t Alanna commit to Kieran?

This story has a few heart breaking scenes. But,also you can feel the love that finally comes through at the end.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This one kind of hit hard. As someone who has had a constant migraine her whole life, as well as dizziness, stomach aches, and scrawniness who was raised by a socialite... Well I was certainly rooting for Alanna from the start, while also feeling a bit self conscious while reading.

She lives her life in a sort of liminal state; she's raised into a particular environment, but is never fully allowed to be a part of that environment. Kieran literally lives in a liminal state of part-human part-wolf, never fully participating in the world around him. A perfect pair! Vien and Potierre and Ana and Danielle are wonderful supporting characters. Vien and Potierre are utterly charming, and Ana and Danielle just want to overcome the prejudices they've had ingrained in them and live a happy life with their sister. And all four of them beautifully shame the mother, all while playing by how own societal rules. It just warms the heart.

I kept kind of wanting to smack Kieran upside the head though, with his whole "oh, she'll never accept me and/or I'm not good enough for her" self esteem issues. Come on, Alanna's the luckiest girl in the world - she gets a boyfriend AND a cute doggy!

Damaged Goods is a wonderful story that is ultimately about love and how that helps changes how people see each other. Alannah is a female who is much stronger than she believes and when she meets the man who will ultimately be her true mate her strength starts to shine through. Kieran is a very strong male who doesn't believe that he is human enough to be loved but when he meets Alannah he finds out that he can be as human as he wants to be. When these two people get together they find strength in each other and in doing that both win the ultimate prize. This is another great story in the Xeno Sapiens, Genetically Altered Humans series and to get the best from it it would be best to read the series in order.

An unattainable princess from a powerful family when Keiran sees her he knows she should be his but also that it will never be. Alannah has spent her life in pain her family hides her secret and gives her medications. When she is taken to Xenia for her protection she forms a bond with an unusual animal. Keiran believes himself a monster that is unworthy of love especially from someone like Alannah he hides in his other form with her. Each believe themselves not good enough for the other can they beat the insurmountable odds against them to find true love? This is such a great read I love sci-fi romance and Rena Marks always delivers with the incredibly different aspects of each Xeno Sapien. This story is steamy and sweet and secrets abound definitely a must read.

Dare to be different!
In an elite city, behaviors, looks and even their surroundings are sanitized, standardized. Iota 9 is not accepting of differences. This is the place from which Alannah was rescued; taken for her safety to Xenia. The ambiance in which she grew up has Cinderella-like nuances. The story of Alannah and Kieran is very unusual. I love it! The emotions are intense, Alannah’s joy at being accepted in her natural state is heartwarming. Both she and Kieran have hurdles to overcome before they reach that HEA, but the outcome is stellar!

I totally enjoyed this story. I've not read any of the other Xenia Sapiens so when I saw this was an ARC I wanted to give it a try. I'm not sorry that I grabbed this book. There are major secrets in Alannah's family and medicine that she has to take but it causes her lots of pain. Keiran is stuck between his human self and his animal self. I loved watching Keiran and Alannah's love story grow and interact with each other. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Typos, improper grammar, over-the-top villain who monologues about her evil schemes, convoluted plot twists that don’t really add to the story line... I just had a hard time with this one. I kept hoping it would get better, but I was disappointed by how amateur the writing came across and I didn’t really feel much of a connection with the characters.

It seems like other readers like it, so maybe it’s just not my thing?

Alannah is hiding a secret that most people in her society would find horrifying. She sees the Xeno Sapiens and passes out after muttering monsters. When she wakes she learns about the Xeno Sapiens and falls for Kieran in his wolf form. They both have much to learn about themselves and each other.
