When I picked this book I didn't realize it was longer than I usually go for but I want to clear my tbr (yeah, not happening, I know, but let a girl have some hope) so I thought why not? Surprisingly, I didn't mind that it was that long. It's probably the only book I enjoyed that's over 300 pages in a long time so that's a plus and the main reason I gave this book 4 stars.

It's not a story that you haven't read before but it's really good and fully developed. The main characters are realistic and the hero is just so good to the heroine and could be someone's new book boyfriend (not mine though, I liked him but he didn't get in my book boyfriend list, sorry). The intimate scenes were quite extensive which I'm not really a fan of so I had to skip a few pages.

To be honest, I felt something was missing and that's why I didn't love it but overall it was an enjoyable read and I don't regret giving it a chance.

I usually enjoy, a lot, the 'accidental baby' stories but I will be honest with you and tell you that I found myself bored most of a time when reading this story.

Usually it goes the way- she meets him, one night stand, she doesn't tell him she's pregnant (because of THE reason), he finds out anyway, he's rich, she's poor, they're trying to get together but there are issues, there is a moment of danger (almost killed or other) when they realize they love each other, and then the happy end. So I was looking for the tension building in the story like it usually goes but firstly the guy was too perfect and secondly the danger situation was just... not exciting? I know sickness shouldn't excite but there was no hint of the adrenaline in a story- if you know what I mean.

I didn't really feel any positive connection to the heroine either- maybe because she reminded me someone too much and her friendship with Vicky seemed not like a friendship at all. Out of nowhere it just wasn't ok when few days earlier they were watching each other's back. I don't know I just felt like the whole story was a little bit forced and played to safe. I missed that excitement.

Other than that it was a proper story for 3 stars. 3 stars mean 'I've read it, didn't bring anything new into my life, sorta ok but won't read again.'.

We chose this for our September read for our Romance Book Club; I voted for this because of the number of positive reviews and average rating, but I was a little bit disappointed.

The set-up was great, as was the initial chemistry, but the pacing was uneven (lots of buildup in the beginning and glossing over both small details and entire months in the second half). Because of this, I wasn't invested in Damien or Ava at the end. Most of the side characters were annoying and/or caricatures.

(Also, this is a small thing, but it really bugged me: the story was based in Fresno, but the characters peppered their speech with British slang. If you're going to change your setting, do your research into local dialogue!)

I can’t say I’m a fan of the female narrator for this one (Heather Costa): she kinda sounds like she’s getting over a cold and is either on the verge of losing her voice, or just got it back 😂.

Anyway, I was pleasantly surprised to discover this book didn’t have a third act breakup! When things were getting emotionally distraught and I was afraid it was going in that direction, things took a full 180 when Damon sat down with Ava and talked things out with her and calmed her down 🥰.

Currently I'm on page 191 and I gotta say it, the fmc is so childish but she's supposedly 25 yrs old. She won't believe she's preggers when it's pointed out by the friend all in denial I get that's possible but i mean if your a 25yr old you know its always possible no matter how cautious you are. If your doing the deed that creates life then be prepared for the possible consequences. The only thing 100% effective is not doing the dirty. Then she continues on and can't even discuss her options like an adult. That erks me in book, you supposedly an adult but can't talk about relations or pregnancy options? I'm going to continue to try to finish the book but I really think I won't be changing my rating. Mainly because that's not the only problem with the story I have. For example, I also hate the authors writing style. I've skipped alot of pages because of the babbling internal monologues and the overly written thoughts. I like to feel and be apart of a story but I don't like when they write a story and literally force thought processes on the reader or when the author get overly wordy to create filler for more pages. It makes me lose interest in a story because its dragging on and on for absolutely no reason. Anywho off to finish it I go.

Update:
Now that I've finished the story everything I said before remains🤷🏼‍♀️. Everything was very anticlimactic and I wish we would of seen a true scene of where Katy would of tore into him for not telling her. Also the plot line time frame was never fully explained so we never understood how far she was along in the story until she delivers. I originally would of rated this a 2 star but it went from a 2.3 star cuz at one point I did get in my feels but it was just a very small part and then after that I got to see her acting childish again so yeah barley a .3 raise. It just wasn't my cup of tea.

These kinds of heroines are highly frustrating. They can't handle the consequences of their own actions AND, somehow, find a way to blame the MMC. They also have zero critical thinking skills and leap to irrational conclusions.

For example:
“Look, um, that night—it was a great time. But…” I swallow, forcing myself to look at him - and then I do the only thing I can think of. I tell him the truth. “Look, I really need this job, okay? It’s really important to me. And—and what happened, that won’t change anything about the work, okay? I promise. I don’t want it to change anything. I’m sorry—I’m sorry I left and—and I’m sorry we ran into each other like—like this, I guess. But…can we just…forget about it? Please?”

This was after the MMC expressed interest in continuing where they left off. SHE shut him down. He respectfully says,

"I can’t say I’ll forget about it.” He says after a moment, mouth still curling up in that dangerous smile before he gives a slight nod. “But no, what happened that night won’t affect the work we’re doing here. You don’t have to worry about that, Ava.”

And then what does her stupid butt think later?

“No, I mean it, Vicki - he’s moved on. The one dinner we did have altogether was the only one we did get a few drinks afterward…and he totally ignored me the whole time. Let’s just drop it, huh?”

"We had our night and he’s done, it’s as simple as that - and it’s a hell of a lot more convenient too. He’s far more more interested in all the fun girls he can party with in New York, and that’s fine.”

Her inner monologue:

"I don’t know why that’s so hard to think about. It’s probably just some silly, insecure part of me that’s afraid of being so replaceable - or the idea that the most amazing night of my life turned out to be just ordinary to someone else. I mean, I’m not sure what I ever expected when I went along with the one-night stand in the first place…that was why I didn’t want to see him again. There’s just an oversensitive part of me that’s a little bit hurt that it meant nothing, that’s all."

I almost stopped reading this book right there. First of all, she's listening to rumors. Second of all, she turned him down and made it clear she wanted nothing to do with him. He's her boss. If he continued pursuing her, she would have a sexual harassment case. And what does she want him to do? Cry in his cornflakes in the hotel room? It's very self-important of her to tell him to stay away and then be judging him for having a good time on a trip. It's like she wanted him to mope around because she turned him down. Or chase her. They had ONE night; not a relationship.

It would be different if they had been dating. I could see her being hurt by him moving on quickly (or seeming to) if they had been dating and she ended it. But that's not what happened. They had one night and SHE left without saying a word. And then when he expressed he would have liked an encore, she shut him down.

At one point in the story, she inner monologues that she is glad her friend seems to be taking her job seriously because she thought her friend was pretty much careless about her job. Judgemental much?

Once the FMC finds out she's pregnant, she somehow becomes even more insufferable. She's freaking out (understandable) but she decides the MMC isn't going to want anything to do with the baby and is freaking out about how she will probably have to give the baby up for adoption. She even thinks about how her parents will insist they raise the baby because the FMC doesn't feel she can do it financially on her own, but she would feel guilty about it because they can't afford it. I don't feel sorry for her at all. The MMC is rich and more than capable of paying child support. He doesn't have to be a part of the baby's life to pay child support, which the baby is entitled to. Her whole line of thinking is just stupid. It's not being a golddigger to want the father of the baby to pay child support.

When she finally tells the MMC, she doesn't give him a chance to fully react or really say anything before she rambles to him that he doesn't have to worry about anything, she's giving the baby up for adoption and she runs off. He asked about the birth control she said she was on. It's a valid question and asked in shock, not accusation. She lost her mind because he didn't have the perfect reaction in ten seconds. And THEN, she has the nerve to be disappointed when he leaves her alone for the rest of the day. "He took me at my word and left me alone." She took that to mean she was right about him not caring about the baby.

With a FMC that assumes as much as this one AND interrupts all attempts at communication, the relationship can't develop at all! I actually find it offensive how much she assumed about the MMC throughout the story. She constantly thought the worst of him for no reason at all.

This FMC is the person that pushes you away and tells you to leave her alone and then turns around and thinks you are terrible for doing what she said to do: leave her alone. I can't stand characters like that.

There was one scene near the end of the book that I liked and I was going to raise the rating of this book to two stars for picking up momentum near the end but I realized part of the reason it was good is probably because the FMC wasn't talking during it. It was a highly emotional scene for the MMC and I liked that their secret was revealed in that moment, but he didn't care about anything except the FMC.

Quick note - if that sort of drama is your thing, there is zero secret here. She tells him almost as soon as she finds out. Misleading subtitles annoy me.

This book had me questioning my choice to read it almost from the start, and it took me 3 days to get about halfway through it. Why? Because it's based in Fresno but the way the characters speak is very obviously British. If you can't research the differences in language (elevator vs lift, hallway vs corridor, etc) then just make your characters ex-pats so there's a reason for them to be different.

But then it started sounding... I don't know how to put it because it's not preachy, exactly, but the h comes across as very, "good girls don't do that," with her wild best friend trying to get her to live a little, but she still disapproves of her own actions, and I hate that. If you want to have fun, have fun. If you don't, don't. But don't go out and then look down on your behavior and chastise yourself like that. Own your shit, girl. You're an adult and you're allowed.

Anyway. This book lost me entirely when the h finds out she's pregnant and the first time she sees the H again, she blurts it out without a build up. Now, she's been worrying these last few days that he would think she got pregnant on purpose and he would think she's a gold digger. She can't even consider getting an abortion (the author couldn't even use the word), and she knows that she's too immature to keep it, so she's planning to have the baby and give it up for adoption. He stands there gaping like a fish, and says, "But I thought you were on the pill?" And suddenly it's alllllll his fault, dammit. I was confused, to say the least.
She gets mad at him for being frozen from shock, and LOOK at the damn thought she has that I highlighted. She might not have started out as a gold digger, but she's f*cking ready to take advantage of that situation.

Oh, I'm sure he'll convince her that his responsibility is enough and she'll be an amazing mom and miracles happen, but honestly this book pissed me right the hell off.
Maybe it's just because of the current state of politics but I think it would have a few months ago, too. Women, and especially young women in the age bracket of this h, need strong, confident role models - not women who scold themselves for going out and having fun after a break up and basing their opinion of self-worth on whether or not their parents would approve.

DNF and once again I'm sooo happy for KU.

I have read and reviewed two of Lara Swann's books and really enjoyed them. I feel this one did not meet my expectations. I did not particularly like the female lead character Ava. She is prideful and determined and that made her take things the wrong way. It's ashamed that these qualities are used in an unhealthy way. She constantly overthinks things and she usually trended towards the negative side of it. Also she never trusted what the lead male character, Damien, said. He never lied to her. So, I could not understand why she was so distrustful. When something good came into her life, she again approached it in an unfavorable way. She thought any good things were an illusion bound to end just as quickly as it was created. It was tiresome that she always relied on her best friend, Vicki, to help her solve her problems. Why could she not just make up her own dang mind. Even though Damien was attracted to Ava, she still doubted him. Even though he wanted to be more to her than a one night stand, she still did not trust anything he said. My goodness was that annoying. Damien was a very strong character. He was the only redeeming part of the book. He sacrificed what he had planned for his future for his family. He started his own business and worked tirelessly to make it a success. It was sad that all of Ava's insecurities were projected onto him. That caused him to double guess his own motives about everything to make sure he did not do or say anything wrong. Because he took more responsibility for the relationship between him and Ava, that was his only drawback. This had a great storyline but I feel that the characters were could have been developed in a more positive way. Thank goodness this ends with a HEA. I received an Advanced Readers Copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This is my second Lara Swann book. The first was Hero Next Door which I really liked. Accidental Baby, missed the mark, but I am still giving it 3 stars because I like the h’s character development.

The oops baby trope has been done enough and I have rarely read one where the h being pregnant for most of the story did not kill the romance. Accidental Baby was no exception. This fact was made worse because they decide to keep their relationship and pregnancy secret because of the conflict of interest. In this story, the h, Ava has a ONS, with the H, Damien and then 1 week later she ends up working as a contractor for his company. I felt the love developing from the H, but not from the h because she was too into her inner dialogue that was mostly pulling away from the H.

What I liked:

Damien transformed from a playboy type who just wants to have fun to a devoted future dad who relentlessly pursues Ava and shows he wants both her and the baby. Damien truly steps up to the plate.There was zero cheating and no OW drama.

What I did not like:

Ava’s self-talk through most of the story was immature and pathetic. The author gave her h very little backbone. The author doesn’t say what Ava’s age is, I am guessing around 25. But she made Ava’s back-story pretty pathetic…she was apparently dumped by a guy she was in a long-term relationship only to couch surf at her friend’s apartment in order to pursue her dream job as a designer (a designer of what I never knew) contracting for Damien’s company.

There were too many inconsistencies regarding when Ava became pregnant and the ensuing timeline of both the pregnancy and the relationship. Ava’s negative self-talk surrounding Damien’s pursuit was irritating and repetitive and unfortunately it took up the majority of the book.

There's something about this genre that spikes my curiosity.
I'm a girl with peculiar tastes. Lol
I like dark books but sometimes we just need a sweet story to calm down.
Lara Swann captured my attention with just one book so I thought... Why not... Why not read another book from her.
Her writing is sweet and beautiful, intense and hot.
Accidental Baby is the book that I'm reading and explores the lives of Damien and Ava.
Damien is a successful business man. But to achieve it, he had to work hard and to top it all, he had his sister to take care of. There was no time for outside distractions.
When his sister goes to college he decides to go out and have some fun. One look at Ava and sparks flew.
What started as a one night stand left him wanting more. But she's gone so he needs to move on.
But one day...
Ava was having a hard time, so what better way than a night out with some friends.
There she meets this hunk of a man. One thing led to the other and they spent the night together.
When she wakes up, she leaves without a trace.
She never thought that she would see him again until she entered her new job...
So sweet, so good.
I loved it so much.
Great plot, well written, super engaging and intense.
Each chapter made me want to read the next right away. It was super addictive.
The characters worked perfectly with each other and you can feel the chemistry they have with each other.
There are some hot scenes in between. Oh goody.
This book talks about second chances, about letting go and pursuing love.
Life it's not easy, and love isn't either, so you must fight for what you want.
I really adored all the characters and I'm curious if Vicky will have her own book.
Great story Lara. I really loved it.

Ava has been having a rough time of it lately so her friend talks her into going out to a new club. Already tipsy from drinking there they go out and start dancing with a bunch a guys. When one guy is persistent and wont take no for an answer another man she bumps into helps her. Damien is captivated by the woman before him and follows her to the bar and as they continue to talk he knows that there is something different about her. They end up going to a hotel close by and having an amazing night but Ava leaves before Damien can ask her out again. She thinks its a one night stand and never expects to see him again. However when she gets added to a job that she has only been a outside contractor at she it brings Damien right back into her life again. Damien can't believe his luck when see spots Ava in his business meeting. They try to remain professional with each other but a business trip to New York changes everything. When Ava arrives back home from New York she is sicker than a dog but thinks its food poisoning but when her friend has her take a pregnancy test she is terrified. What will Damien do once he learns she's pregnant with his child? Can they make a relationship work between them with only a few nights between them?


This is a great story once I started it I couldn't put it down. The chemistry between Damien and Ava is blazing hot. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this book to any book lover.

This was the first book I read of Lara Swann and was completely taken by the story of Ava and Damien. This book deserved five stars, if I had more options I would give it more. Would love to read similar books by this author, and hope there to be a sequel to this book.
Great plot and very well thought of characters. Each character in the story had a part to play to make this story touching and real.
Two uncertain people in need of comfort and direction in life. Ava recovering from a break up of a nine year relationship and Damien trying to find his place after caring for his sister since she was eleven, who has finally found her wings to fly and experience her own life away from her loving brother.
Ava is out with her friend Vicki who is fun loving and wants Ava to come out of her shell of self doubt and to start enjoying her life once again. They get drunk and Ava wanders to the other side of the club and meets Damien. They have a one night stand and she lands up being pregnant.
As fate would have it she gets a job at his company, unknown to her, as a graphic designer with a team of others. She confides in Damien about her being pregnant with his child and their romance takes over from here. He is loving and caring, she is unsure of herself but fights to be normal for the sake of the baby. He wants her and the baby in his life and she relents after a lot of soul searching.
The story has its heart stopping moments as well as sweet cherish moments to make the reader feel a part of their family. And I loved the happy ending.

Ava has moved back to her parents place she had split up with her boyfriend of 9 years and she’s depressed, Ava texts her best friend Vicki and goes over to her place. Vicki tells Ava that it’s time for her to get out and maybe pick up a one night stand or just go out and have a good time and Ava reluctantly agrees. Ava goes into another bar she has left her friend on the dance floor she needs to cool down after letting loose dancing with a guy, he follows her into the bar trying to pick her up but he doesn’t understand the word no so Ava walks off and right into a big strong body. Damien invented an app and now he’s walking through the club wanting to celebrate on his own when this gorgeous girl walks right into him, Damien saves her from the weirdo and as a thank you she goes to buy him a drink. A little conversation and a bit of flirting later Damien takes Ava to another place in the club, they start to slow dance and then things start to get hot and heavy so Damien takes Ava to the hotel next door. Ava is blown away by the sex that they have she never knew sex could be like that, once she woke up she left before Damien woke up. That’s all I’m giving you guys but there is so much more to this story to keep you entertained and turning the pages and I loved every bit of it. A fantastic story a 5 plus ⭐️ read and I highly recommend this book it’s definitely well worth the read.

Good book

The story was good, a little bit to fast pace in the love connection. The one thing that annoyed me was Ava telling Damien she was giving the baby up for adoption. He said I'll adopt it. Anyone knows a father doesn't need to adopt his own baby, also she cannot legally give her baby up for adoption without the fathers consent.

I thought the book also ended to fast. It would have been more interesting if Ava decided to move into Damiens house. It was established repeatedly that they loved each other. It was mentioned Emily would be wanting her own place, she could have moved into the apartment.

I'm a little confused Damien is suppose to be a billionaire (A Billionaire Secret Baby) yet he doesn't own a plane? Why would flying the web designer's and putting them up in a motel take a huge chunk of their money? I would think that'd be a drop in a bucket. Even a millionaire could afford to hire a plane.

Ava was to much of a wimp in front of her ex. I would have said I came up in the world without you holding me back. She should have held up the keys to her apartment, laughed in his face then walked away. One she got inside she could break down and cry all she wanted over his nasty remarks.

I'm going to preface this by saying any book I finish has at least 3 stars, if I find it less interesting or engaging than 3 stars, I'm not going to finish it. Nor would I negatively rate a book, because I wouldn't disrespect the author for the time, effort, sweat and tears they put into writing it. If I don't like it, it is most likely because it is just not to my taste.

So it is with the greatest respect for the author that I say I found the a chunk in the middle of this book lost my engagement a bit, and I nearly dnf'd. However, something happened between Ava and her best friend, which I found a little different to other romances. Instead of there being a big drama between MMC and FMC, this was a little different. Damien was solid and supported Ava in what ever she needed, including her career and her relationship with her friend. So it pulled me back in.

I enjoyed the book, but for me it was not groundbreaking.

Lara Swann presented a story that felt more real in the sense of the problems that follow people through life. Okay, the billionaire guy is definitely a fantasy but the problems with Ava were real and Damien a dream.

For some Ava's character may be difficult to understand but some of us can relate to her feelings of being inadequate and never fully trusting others. It's not what they say or do, its relating to the past and being unable to move past that. Damien is like prince charming and more patient than any man I've ever met :)
Yet, his character finds love even when he wasn't looking for it and he put forth all he had to try to help Ava open her eyes and see what is in front of her.
I thought the book was well written with two very intersting characters along with a great supporting cast. And of course the HEA never fails to win me over.

I really enjoyed this story! It's well written and the characters pulled me in from beginning to end. Ava is trying to get her life together and the one time she does something a little crazy, she ends up pregnant. She is trying to figure out what the best thing to do is without getting her hopes up. Damien is at a bit of a standstill with his life and has been trying to figure out how and which way he wants to move forward. The two of them just click together but the circumstances that they find themselves in don't make it easy to go for it. I liked the way that the story developed. It felt very real. The sex is explicit and fits the characters and the story. It was all well done and a very enjoyable read.

A long read that had a complex story line that kept this reader engaged throughout. There are certainly some very steamy scenes in this story. There are more complex issues delved into with this story than just a straight forward romantic tale. The main female character starts at an epic low in her life and by the end of the story has come into her own. The main male character had business ethics to deal with. This couple walked some fine work lines in order to maintain their relationship. Matters unfolded well for them but not without some dramatic events and a great deal of angst. Good read.

Oh My Goodness, Talk about a story taking you on so many ups and downs your emotions are all over the place... Dang!!! But So Freaking Good!!!

Damion and Ava will have you wanting to knock their heads together one minute, and in the next smiling at what they do.
Both have such real insecurities about themselves you feel sad at times, while other times you are amazed.
Very emotional story in my eyes. But it is defintely worth reading more than once. And it has a sensual vibe thats pretty awesome.

Mature readers, some strong language and sexual content.

Really like Damien and Ava, interesting story of their initial attraction, development of their relationship, responsibility they take on as parents. I like Ava’s caution when it comes to trusting Damien, putting her baby first.

I don’t like Ava’s friend, Vicki, much. She’s always trying to push Ava, except when she was supportive with the pregnancy. It was totally out of left field for her to get angry when she wasn’t receiving attention from Ava, very juvenile.

I also wish Ava could have gotten her career going without having Damien rescue her, too much dependency. The message should have been stronger about her overcoming the obstacle of their relationship when they were client/employee.

So, not bad, but could have been improved.

Hot! It was supposed to be one night...she is getting over a long term relationship breaking up and he is living it up a bit after raising his little sister for so long.

But then they meet each other in a professional setting. It's hard to deny the attraction. When a surprise pregnancy occurs, she's in risk of losing her dream career and he also has a business deal to worry about but he wants to tell the whole world he's going to be a dad. Great story and good characters you find yourself liking and rooting for. Oh and Ava's ex, Jackson, is such a jerk... Augh!

Once i started reading this book i couldnt put it down, hubby had to cook dinner!!! That's how good this book is.
Ava and Damien met at a club and had a one night stand never thinking that they would see each other a few days later across a conference table. Ava wants things to be professional and tells Damien that they cant see each other but Damien cant stop thinking about her even though it could be bad for business. Things get even more complicated when Ava falls pregnant.
The chemistry between Damien and Ava is unbelievable. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this book to any book lover.

I’m a little surprised I finished this book. My problems started with the book description. It just was too much. The book frustrated me in that the majority of the narrative was focused on their relationship even though external struggles were in place. They hardly had any thoughts outside of each other. It became a tiny bit better towards the end, but only slightly. The FMC was frustratingly helpless. The author seemed to decide to throw a bunch of sucky, unnecessary, out of nowhere obstacles at her at the end which was also worthy of major eye roll action. Overall, not one I’d suggest unless you’re into being frustrated as you read.

This is a sweet & romantic book with a lot of chemistry mixed in. These two meet in a way neither of them expected to find their “one”. After a fun night together, they both have the other stuck in their head, then they end up working together. She’s been burned badly and is reluctant to get into a relationship, and is having difficulties trusting him. He’s just gotten free of the responsibility of raising his sister and wants to live his life and discover himself. Their journey isn’t something you’ll want to miss.

What a great read ,love the interaction between damian and ava they fitted so well together and her friendship with vicki ,the story was well written and based on ava meeting Damian on night out with her best friend after a breaking up with her ex boyfriend Jackson of mine years ,damia n helps an a out of of sticky situation and one thing leads to another with a one night together ,ava leaves in the morning but when an opportunity with temp job offer she never thought she'll be seeing damian again ,was it one or could they be more to it .
