One of the BEST art reference books I've seen. I checked this out of my local library - now I MUST buy it!

Artist's Drawing Techniques covers all the basics first: composition, focused/gestural lines, tone, color, value, expression, perspective, etc. It also covers the pros and cons of drawing from life vs. drawing from photo references. Discusses indoor and outdoor setups.

Then it moves into different mediums and showcases art and step by step tips on each medium: pencil, charcoal, pen & ink, colored pencils and soft & oil pastels. Each section also discusses which items you will need and how to use them. Each media section has projects and examples from beginner to intermediate to advanced. The examples are good.

This 304 page book is just amazing! I MUST add it to my art reference book collection. Enjoy.

I picked up this book at my local library and I was not disappointed. If I were teaching a drawing course I would assign this book. It details the materials and different techniques for dry and wet mediums used for drawing and provides useful tips on how to make sense of your materials for the goals you want to achieve in your drawing practice. Gorgeous color photography of others' drawings helps you learn and explore your style. A gift of a text.

It's an excellent book for beginners you can find all mediums and basics you need for drawing, Good introduction but I didn't take any extra or new knowledge from reading it also I didn't enjoy a lot, it was not for me from the beginning since I'm not a beginner at the same time I liked to have a book like that in my Library and even if you are not beginner Artist still you need to go back to the basics from time to time and make exercises.Overall I highly recommend it for beginners.well explained.
