This is a supernatural fantasy, with the slight difference that the devil is actually some person who died, got converted to a demon, and presumably killed off the previous devil. Not that that is important. It appears from the start that the devil is sending a demon army to conquer the major city and kill the king. For that, we follow some major demons. Additionally, there are Death Gods, a Brotherhood, and various other groups, most of whom seem to be evil oriented, but unlike some stories, the demons have limits on what they can do, and the better guys do have some tricks. The better guys, of course, have to defend the city and keep the king alive, or do they really? There are a number of games the better guys are also playing while dealing with demons.
The writing is clear, and the world-building is superb. Some parts of the story may seem a bit odd at first, thus the devil sends a demon to do a very important job, but said demon is blind. Think about that! Author Glicksman has put a huge effort into this story. The characters are plausible in their behaviour and the story is a lot more than simple violence, of which there is actually not much. As for the forgotten Queen, she does not become apparent until nearly the end of the story, but . . . This was great, except for two points, which for me cost a star, but maybe not for you. The first is there is a huge cast of characters, and leaving aside allegiance difficulties, sometimes I had trouble remembering which group they belonged to. You expect unusual names, but just maybe for formal purposes names could be oriented just a little more to give clues as to what they are? The second was that each character seemed to have an extensive backstory that had to be introduced. For me, this slowed the story, but if you like everything to be laid out so that you know all of what is involved to that point, this will be a great story for you.

I struggled with categorizing this, because I couldn’t decide whether it was a horror novel with a fantasy twist, or a fantasy novel with horror overtones. With the first book I leaned toward horror, but here I think I’ll slide the scale a bit more towards fantasy. And really, does the categorization even matter? I know it does to some people, but it shouldn’t here, because this book was freaking awesome.

Glicksman continues to expand on his world building, including one of the most unique and interesting versions of demons I have ever seen. There is a beauty in the complexity of the world that his characters inhabit. There are definitely a lot of moving parts to keep track of, but the information is introduced so gradually and naturally that it doesn’t become an overwhelming info dump. There was a bit of three-card monte in the end and I did get a little lost trying to keep track of the lady, so I think I might have missed a couple of things, but not enough to cause problems.

There is a third book in the series, but apparently it won’t be out until the end of the year, and I’m not sure what I’m supposed to do while I’m waiting for that. Re-read the first two? Yeah, probably.

This is probably one of the most interesting books I have read lately. The Forgotten Queen is the second installment of The Devil's Gambit series written by Matt Glicksman. I can say that the storyline of this book is unique and very unusual. At times it will take you to a very dark journey that would confuse you and make you feel strange things.

What I like about this book was Matt's amazing writing style. The world that he created through this book was complex, but he definitely managed to take his readers carefully into the story, drawing us to this epic tale with a fantastic theme that it is not easy to forget. In particular, I loved how the characters were created. I also loved the antagonist here. It really makes you want to root for the main character to end the disaster in this fictional world. I definitely recommend!

The Forgotten Queen (The Devil's Gambit Book 2) by Matt Glicksman is a fantastic fantasy-style book that is immersive, detailed, and nuanced. There are plenty of characters to become familiar with and the storyline is rather complex, but once you get started, you won't be able to stop reading. The plot is involved and complicated, but the author manages to pull you in anyway. The backdrop for the story is dark and foreboding setting a creepy tone for this stunning dark fantasy. Demon lords, giant demon wolves, and more populate this story and fill it with horror and trepidation. Expansive writing, detailed descriptions, and dark and creepy characters of all sorts keep you reading as you learn more about this fantasy world. Highly recommend it for a great read and one to escape with.

The forgotten Queen might be dead, but she has put certain failsafe’s in place which will allow her soul to carry on her dark ambitions. The Priests guild strives to stand in the way as the populace begins to lose faith in the increasing evidence of the demons’ powers. A dark fantasy world will get even darker before the light will emerge.
I found for a second book in the series, that this book was much too complex. Complex can be good, however, a new cast of characters were introduced, each with their own histories that we went into as well as everything else about their personalities. The plot itself was satisfying, however, it was a slow read with me putting down the book a few times simply due to the information dumps we got.

Absolutely amazing!!

This book is an amazing read. It's a quite different type of fantasy book i have ever read. It took a minuet to soak in the information on the titles of the characters and what they mean and such. I need to read the first book seeing that this is book 2. I really didnt have much trouble reading it despite that fact. I really want to know what happens next. I absolutely loved the multiple povs. I love when authors use that writing style. This book is definitely a crazy adventure with so many different things that come into play. It took me longer to read but i enjoyed every minute of it. I read slower to absorb all the information about what was going on. I am definitely fully invested in whats going to happen in the next book.

Definitely not for the weak or faint-hearted!
The front cover of The Forgotten Queen (The Devil's Gambit Book 2) written by Matt Glicksman warns readers of the impending and at the same time welcomes you to delve into some deep dark mysterious s***. The creativity with the pages full of imaginative power is worth a 5 star. I definitely loved the twist within this supernatural fantasy read. It's interesting with an amazing storyline.
The mysterious darkness that populated the pages seems creepy and chilly at times with demons and wolves- giants and lords littered on its pages.
I will highly recommend this book to readers who love mystery and dark novels.

Descriptive and wild!

This book is pretty intense. Right off the bat there is so much going on and there are a handful of characters to get familiar with, which may be difficult at first. The pace is also intense and you will hardly be able to relax when you are reading this story. Prepare yourself for danger. The narrative is written well and is incredibly descriptive. If you want to be thrust into a battle of good versus evil, this is something you'll enjoy.

I received this book free of charge in a giveaway.

I'm pleasantly surprised. Some series retain the same level of polish novel to novel, but this one improves on its predecessor. I still enjoyed learning how magic works in this world, but the new insight into the characters, their past, motives, and thoughts was delightful. A fun read, I'm excited for the next installment.

The book had me on the edge of my seat. The characters continue with their quest. But I didn't get to find out with the princes Batar and altheus. There was no real ended as if the story could be going. I wish the ending was a little better.
