Set in a decadent Welsh countryside manor, two rival violinists and sisters, Deryn and Glyn, find themselves haunted by more than each other's sharp tongues.
Deryn wishes she was everything her sister is; Glyn is more beautiful, more talented, more fashionable. Deryn dreams of moving out of her sister's shadow to forge her own life, complete with stylish dresses and natural charm. But how can Deryn succeed when luck, even between two sisters in the same countryside Abbey, was distributed so unevenly?
I thoroughly enjoyed this historical novella. It's a captivating mystery, with interesting characters and great pacing. I found it to be humorous in spots, and loved the references to music. It was over before I knew it, and I wanted to read more from this author.
This novella was a nice spooky jaunt for an afternoon read. It’s 89 pages so this read goes by quick. Edward does an excellent job of keeping this story on track and moving while providing enough world building and back story to leave you feeling and wishing this was a much longer novel style story.
I’d recommend this for anyone who enjoys Downton Abbey, was a band nerd, loves ghost stores and/or likes short inspirational stories.
Just a fair warning to my fellow horror readers out there, this is NOT a scary ghost story. So if you’re looking for something tense and edge of your seat, save this one for the day where you want a fluffy creepy story.
Disclaimer: I had the pleasure of helping to edit this book.
The story has rythym, drama, and plenty of places where I couldn't help but laugh out loud! I particularly enjoyed the dynamic between the main character Deryn and her grandmother. Highly recommend for a pleasant evening read.
