It makes me happy that I am seeing more and more of these types of books getting published. I look forward to sharing this one with my niece when she is a bit older. The suggested age range is for children 7-12 years old but I can tell you as an adult even I enjoyed reading it.
The book is split into 4 categories including Leaders and Activists, Scientists and Inventors, Artists and Writers, and Athletes and Adventurers. I give the author credit for selecting a diverse group of women to feature in the book. Laverne Cox, a LGBT advocate and transgender actress, was featured as well as women with disabilities including some athletes who competed in the Paralympics. And while some of the women are well-known names such as Hilary Clinton, Rosa Parks, Serena Williams, and Jane Goodall there are many females who most of us might not be familiar with but accomplished extraordinary things.
Each woman featured had a brief biography and illustration. The amount of info provided for each varied from just a few sentences to around a page. This is the type of book I would have enjoyed as a kid because I love trivia type facts like this and also it really doesn't require a long attention span as you can choose to read as many as you want in a sitting.
Definitely recommend as a good book to give a child as it really shows what types of things you can accomplish with some hard work and determination.

I enjoyed reading this one. But it lacked depth and some chapters were biased in the sense that some of the personalities had long chapters dedicated to them while the rest got like half a page for their stories. Biased. I say.

I received an ARC copy of this book from NetGalley
I enjoyed this book but it was honestly a bit too simplistic for me personally. However it is a book aimed primarily at younger readers so I think they would get a lot more enjoyment out of it. I think it offers some good basic information as a way to help introduce these women, but I kept thinking 'well you left out this or that' because I've read so many of these types of books before. Still, it featured a very diverse group of women and there were several I hadn't heard of so that was nice. If i had to give any big criticisms it would be to even out the entry lengths - some women had literally a single paragraph while others had a whole page - and also as always with these books I would like to see more trans women featured [this had only one - Laverne Cox].

A fantastic book that teaches children that gender does not make a difference when it comes to creating change in the world.
It is imperative that parents and teachers inspire the children in their care to want to make sure that they each, individually do things to enrich the world they will inherit.
Female children need to know that other females have gone on to do amazing and inspiring things and that they can follow in their footsteps.
Male children, in the past, were taught that they were better in many ways than their female counterparts. This must not continue. They need to know that each and every person, regardless of gender, can create change and thus are capable of doing amazing things.
Books such as this one are extremely important.
I rate this book as 5 OUT OF 5 STARS ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I really love reading books such as this one. There are always repeated names but it’s good to remember iconic women that worked/have worked in several areas and also name a few new more, that will inspire us to do great things with our lives. As they’re targeted to children, though, they’re bound to be short and straight to the point.

Las ilustraciones son preciosas pero tengo mis cuestionamientos sobre la elección de las mujeres que componen el libro (sobre todo porque parece un libro destinado a menores).
Sí, algunas biografías son maravillosas e impactantes. Otras, no sé... siento que son mujeres notables pero que de alguna manera replicaron acciones de la lógica patriarcal.
¿Participar de manera activa en conflictos bélicos, defender los privilegios y el dominio de sus Estados Naciones sobre otros, crear bombas atónomicas? mmmmmmm no gracias, no es ese modelo de mujer que me resulta inspirador. Todo lo contrario.

Uno más que se une al montón de libros ilustrados biográficos que últimamente están saliendo. Pero que créanme se destaca de muy buena manera.
Para empezar, sí es un libro ilustrado de una manera sencilla, hermosa y tierna. Pero este libro no tiene comparación con tantos otros. No nos cuenta la historia de estas mujeres en forma de cuentos, no las disfraza ni embellece. Informa y muy bien. De una forma concisa y completa. Hay historias que ocupan media carilla otras dos. El libro se divide en 4 partes: Inventoras y Científicas; Artistas y Escritoras; Deportistas y Aventureras; y Líderes y Activistas.
Escrito por Julia Adams e ilustrado con mucha ternura por Louise Wright. Una combinación muy buena. Incluyen frases geniales. Un libro indispensable. El perfecto regalo para toda niña curiosa o niño curioso, que acá en casa es leído y ojeado tanto por mi hija como por mi hijo. Ambos aprenden sobre las vidas de estás increíbles mujeres, ambos las empiezan a conocer y ya tienen sus favoritas a quienes admiran.
Un libro, y vale recalcarlo, imprescindible en toda biblioteca feminista.

Initially wanting to give this one a 3 star review, I bumped it up because it is inspirational. And the message to its readers, whom I hope are both male and female alike, is that girls grow up to do amazing things in this world.
The book is divided into four sections: Leaders and Activists, Scientists and Inventors, Artists and Writers, Athletes and Adventurers. It's a quick peek at women who helped shape these four subcategories. The quick peek lends itself to both incomplete and simplistic explanations, though, and that was why I wanted to designate it a three-star read.
Because people are human, we are flawed; but to whitewash some of the lives in this book does the readers a disservice. Our kids are smarter than we give them credit for. They also deserve the unadulterated truth, with no sugarcoating.
Just ask my husband about Evita Peron; his father's side hails from Argentina and can attest firsthand to the atrocities doled out by the Peronistas.

Why are we including even one trans-woman in books like this? I mean I would love to see some similar books for trans people but when we are trying to celebrate what women have brought to the table I want to see how bio women have been able to overcome the hardships of their gender and proven that we are just as capable as the men are in contributing to society.
Can't we even have any more books about actual awesome biological women who have changed the world or save those entries so we can dedicate that space to another maybe more obscure woman or even one that is a bit more know thus Osa Johnson didn't make it in, any of the Queen Elizabeths, Hatshepsut, Corrie Ten Boom, Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan, Cristina Zenato, Joan of Arc, Bethany Hamilton, Ann Sewell, Mia Hamm, Florence Nightingale, Pocahontas, Ayn Rand, RBG, Michaela DePrince or Ruth Gruber to name a few. Otherwise I was surprised to see women like Katia Krafft included when she is normally overlooked so there is some kudos to the people they chose.
Furthermore the entries aren't provided in equal matter with the really older queens at the start of the book only receiving a paragraph that basically didn't provide any information on them or in the case of Cleopatra mentioned her dealings with Julius Caesar and Mark Antony. Other entries ranged from that same format to maybe another paragraph or a few pages.
The book itself is split into four sections with a handful of leaders and activists being combined followed by scientists and investors, artists and writers then ended by athletes and adventures. The women included range from those that are quite well-known to those that are lesser known to people who aren't up-to-date on cultural but foreign events in our world today that aren't reported in the mainstream news.
As a result I am shelving this book permanently even though it did seem to look rather interesting in my flipping through of its pages.

I would like to thank both Arcturus Publishing & NetGalley for the opportunity to read an advanced copy of 101 Awesone Women Who Changed Our World by Julia Andrews. This book includes an illustration and a few easy to read paragraphs about 101 different women that have fearlessly stood up for their beliefs, themselves & one another over the years. From politicians to scientists to humanitarians, this book gives every little girl the opportunity to find her own hero. As a person and mother of color, I especially appreciated the diverse representation of women from all across space, time & ethnicity. I think it is incredibly important for little girls to see themselves represented as successes instead of stereotypes & I think this book dies a wonderful job with that. The mini- biographies for each woman are short & should be readable for children as young as 6-7yrs old. It also includes a glossary with definitions of the “bigger words” which empowers young readers to work on using their resources. My 10 yr old is a bit of an advanced reader but even still, she really enjoyed this book & used it as a springboard to then do more thorough research on the women & stories that especially piqued her interest. Even I learned about some new names & was reminded of a few I had forgotten about as well. This is definitely one that can be shared across generations of fierce women in our own families.

A great collection of women who have made an impact in our world through Sport, Entertainment and STEM, 101 Awesome Women Who Changed Our World is a book for older children about historic women.
The people included are incredibly diverse and alive. I find with a lot of the books that show women, often the women are historic and though in many cases this is the situation in this book, often it is not which is rare. Including women such as Malala Yousafzai and Simone Biles, these are women young girls can look up to right now and I think that’s important.
To accompany these biographies are some really lovely illustrations of these women, ones that stand out for me include entries such as Majlinda Kelmendi, Chantal Petitclerc and Laverne Cox - the illustrator has added little details in this book too, that really add to the stories about the women and it brings them to life.
It’s an enjoyable read filled to the brim with incredible women and illustrations that add to this book beautifully, I just expected more from this as this book.

This is such an inspiring book, especially for young girls.
The title of the book is self-explanatory. Some of the women mentioned are Malala Yousafzai, Eva Perón, Rosa Parks, J. K. Rowling, and Marie Curie.
The illustrated portraits are so cute, and the women mentioned are very diverse - from whites, to black, there's even Laverne Cox who represents the LGBTQ+ community, etc. I only wish that a Maltese women would have been mentioned.
My only "complaint" is that all of them should have had the same amount of information written about them. This is because some of them had a whole page worth of information, while others only had a paragraph.

Received this as an ARC from netgalley in exchange of an honest review.
I don't generally read children's non-fiction but the fact that it's about the amazing women in our society really caught my attention and so I requested it. I was so excited to get this arc and it did not disappoint me.
It contains really beautiful illustrations of the women mentioned and also other illustrations where appropriate. The information is very educational and to the point and I really liked that. Quotes were also included where necessary which is a very nice touch.
I loved this book and would definitely recommend it to not only children but everyone.

Hermosa forma de conocer la historia de 101 mujeres, entre ellas deportistas, activistas, científicas, artistas, políticas, que demostraron y siguen demostrando que ser mujer es una fortaleza y que, pese a las dificultades, consiguieron la manera de brillar y marcar el camino de muchas otras niñas y mujeres.
Algunas tendremos nuestras favoritas, pero definitivamente se trata de mujeres poderosas y valientes que dieron lo mejor de sí para lograr sus objetivos, con o sin el apoyo de otros.
Un libro para niñas, adolescentes y adultas. Porque, como dijo Zaha Hadid, «(...) Considero a todas las mujeres hábiles, dotadas y fuertes».

First line: The course of history is packed with stories of women overcoming odd, defying expectations, and shattering stereotypes.
Summary: A short illustrated book with short biographies of amazing women from history.
Highlights: There were lots of new women that I had never heard of. I liked the short bios and the illustrations.
Lowlights: Some bios were almost too short. These women led full lives but we only write a sentence or two?
FYI: Great for young kids.

Highlights: There were lots of new women that I had never heard of. I liked the short bios and the illustrations.
Lowlights: Some bios were almost too short. These women led full lives but we only write a sentence or two?
FYI: Great for young kids.

This collected biography covers a lot of trailblazing women, including many lesser-known women. However because of the large number of women covered in such a short book, most women only receive maybe two paragraphs about their lives and achievements. I would use this book to start the conversation about the women covered, and it may inspire kids to seek out more information elsewhere.

As ilustrações são muito fofas, adorei demais e fazia muito tempo que eu não lia algum livro com imagens. Por ter ilustrações, na minha cabeça, seria um ótimo livro pra ler pra irmã mais nova, filha, neta, sobrinha, etc.
Minhas duas mulheres favoritas depois de ler esse livro são: Harriet Tubman (ela fez o caminho de 145km várias vezes pra conseguir salvar o máximo de pessoas e guiar pro estado livre de escravidão) e Ida Pfeiffer (primeira travel blogger e primeira pessoa a fazer publis pelo próprio blog, achei muito interessante que em 1800 ela já tinha essa visão).

When I first started this book and the first couple women bios were really short, I was concerned, but then the bios became longer and more detailed. I like how the sections were organized. I was surprised at how many women I had never heard of before. I would have liked to see all of the women have a couple of pages written about them. This is a good introduction to many important women in history.

This is a well-meaning book, and well worth putting on the school library shelf, but it's not perfect. The balance of it, at least as far as the file I got to read on netgalley is concerned, is too much in the favour of cheesy portrait pictures of the characters and against the more useful information. Also, some entries are too long, and some (particularly about people I'd never heard of, such as the Empress Jingu of Japan) are far too short. Still, no major complaint is possible.

This is a terrific introduction to women of all ages who have accomplished great things in their fields. Women from all over the world and areas, such as science, sports, the arts and more. Short biographies (ranging from a short paragraph to a page in length) introduce readers to the subject's early life, education and known accomplishments. I especially enjoyed that women from ancient times to present day were featured.

Great book for introducing young readers to women who have made a difference in their particular field. The book contains some lovely illustrations and gives an overview of what each person achieved. Overall it is a well presented interesting read. I received a free copy of this book from Arcturus Digital in exchange for an honest review.

This is beautifully illustrated book full of amazing women.. The women are grouped into subject areas and each women has a wonderful illustration. Some of the stories are a little short. This book is part of a wave of feminist mini biography for children with illustrations. This is a perfect gift for any child who loves to read and learn about history.
