Wow, wow, wow. What an ending! I should really probably take a few minutes to digest this book before I write my review but screw it. I'm an "all-in" kind of gal. I really DID just put the book down and start up my computer. I just had to get everything that's rolling around in my brain out of there so I can get some peace!
Again, I'm thinking that this book could be read as a stand-alone. I know, I know, it IS difficult to believe but I think it's true! There's some brief recaps that explain what has happened before so readers who don't need to get WAY into a story to enjoy it would probably be okay. Having said that, come on now, you know you need to read the rest of this damn series. You KNOW you do!
Finally, FINALLY Mia redeems herself! Alright, saying "finally" and saying it twice is a bit of an overreaction. She wasn't all THAT bad in Book 2 but for real, I didn't really like her all that much at the end of that book. But damn if she didn't strap her lady-balls on and kick some mother freaking ass!!! Damn, she was on fire! I was happy that the cold, unfeeling Mia made an appearance because it was high time that she did something for herself. But on the other hand, I was glad when the normal Mia came back. Then later, after her Seer power really comes online, it was just amazing to go on that journey with her. Yeah, I'm sorry I have to be all vague about it but I just don't want to spoil ANYTHING at all for you. I hope no one reads TOO many reviews of this series because someone is going to slip and spill some secrets. It wouldn't ruin the book but it was a lot of fun to be crazy confused, just like Mia was. And I think that Mia made the right decisions with the information she had and I don't know that I would have done any better. I'll just leave it at that.
Wow, King had a phenomenal transformation. If I thought he was a bad guy at any time before this book, it was NOTHING compared to how totally, awfully evil he was here. I mean, he was so bad that I thought Mia HAD to be dreaming. What King was doing couldn't be real. To be honest, I'm not 100% sure that it WAS real, even now! But then I saw what King was like before his transformation and he was magnificent. I fell in love with him almost immediately and I hung on to that feeling through everything that came after. One thing that thrilled the piss out of me was that I finally found out what his tattoos meant. Mia mentioned them several times during the series - not enough to make me think "Okaaayyy, got it! Tattoos mean something!" but enough to make me remember that I wanted to know what they were. There is no way that I would have ever been able to guess what they were for and once they were explained, lots of other things made more sense as well. Of course, it's late so I didn't fully understand until Mia laid it all out so this time, I'm grateful that the explanation was dummy-proof! LOL!
Mia and King really run the gauntlet in this story. There's no more pussy-footing around, no more avoiding what's between them. They both realize what is going on between them and it's time to put up or shut up. And holy cow, the Sexy Time was awesome! There wasn't a super ton of it but what it MAY have lacked in quantity, it made up for in quality, baby! Lemme just say that King could have been called King because he ruled in the sack, know what I mean, ladies?? wink, wink! Okay, I'm getting a little silly so let's bring this review on home...
This was an awesome ending for an unusual series. I've never read a series where I hated the hero for so long! LOL! But the author killed it with this book. The way she got the reader to see the good side of King was pretty cool and very creative, in my opinion. I was confused for some of it because there were parts that had a little bit of that trippy feeling from Book 1 but it made for a really wild ride. I'm pretty sure all the plot points were wrapped up but there maybe just might have been a teensy bit of a tease for another story - Mack's story - which would be really fun to read. Like with a lot of good books, I laughed and I cried and I yelled and I was pissed and I was elated...occasionally all at the same time! I would absolutely recommend this book to readers who are looking for a challenge. It was tough to not quit the series when the hero was mean and the heroine was being a dumbass. But I felt like I was SO rewarded for staying with the books. This is definitely one that I'll read over and over again!
