When a man is found dead only months after his divorce, suspicion immediately falls on his bitter ex-wife… who also happens to be none other than Shay Graves's ex-mother in law. However, once it’s discovered that he has an engagement ring in his pocket, the suspect pool grows to encircle a surprising new suspect. With law enforcement on one side of the family dinner table and a murder suspect on the other, Shay is bound and determined to prove her sister’s innocence and bring peace back to the Graves family. And with her sister’s life at stake, Shay won’t sit back and wait for the fight to come to her. Lucky for her, she has a hunky news reporter and an adventurous great aunt that are always up for a challenge … but it’s going to be a bumpy ride.
Misty Bane is the author of Paranormal Cozy Mysteries filled with witches, shapeshifters, snarky ghosts, and a talking animal or two.
Misty is a Pacific Northwest native currently living between the mountains and the beach with her husband, three children, and golden retriever, Lou. She sometimes fantasizes about living in a world where she could clean the house and whip up a four-course meal with just a twirl of her finger.
I've enjoyed each book in this series as Shay and her daughter, Ember moved back to where Shay grew up. Each book has a murder in it and I love trying to figure it out before I learn it in the book. I'm so anxious for book five to be released.
This is a delightful series centered around a magical family. Shay has recently returned to the paranormal town after having raised her teen daughter, Ember, in the human world. Shay's sister, Kiki, seems to be the family's lovable screw-up who finds herself at the center of a murder investigation. Their brother, Matt, takes himself a bit too seriously but is protective in a well-hidden way. Aunt Hattie is the batty, troublemaking matriarch. Lee is Shay's angelic bestie with a past, and Roman is the delicious, patient newspaperman/friend (Holy shifters, it took you long enough, Shay!). The interpersonal relationships are strong, which might explain why the murder felt so secondary. Magic is even more insignificant which is a problem in a PARANORMAL cozy. It makes sense for Ember to be low on magic, but Shay's lack (even when she's literally in mortal peril!) is a big letdown in the main character in a paranormal story. The presumed powerful matriarch failed every magical attempt; this is nonsense unless it foreshadows events in the next installment... It will also be interesting to discover Matt's problem with Shay and how Kevin-the-human managed entrance into a restricted enclave; there has to be an intriguing backstory there.
Entertaining supernatural cozy mystery series. An outstanding cast of characters and a fun and entertaining storyline. Shay Graves is a witch who lives in a paranormal town on a street where most of her family lives. Her family owns the local cemetery and funeral home. She works at the funeral home with her father and stepmother. Her sister lives on the same street her brother and his family live on the same street her father and stepmother live on the street her aunt lives on the same street. Her aunt is a wild and crazy witch. Her sister owns a local hair salon and spa. Her brother is acting police chief. Her best friend is an angel who got fired from his old job transferring souls to heaven. She also has a friend who may become so much more and her teenage daughter has recently come into her magic and goes to local high school. Can’t forget her talking cat familiar or her aunts miniature dragon familiar. And eclectic and entertaining cast of characters that will make you laugh and entertain you from beginning to end. Follow along as they solve murders mysteries and other crimes in their small supernatural town. Check it out at some point.
Misty has done it again! This is a wonderful cozy mystery filled with the high jinks of dear old Aunt Hattie! Every family should have an Aunt Hattie! She is terrific! You never know what you’re going to be like once she gives you a potion or casts a spell. The only thing you know for sure is you’re going to be different for a while!
I enthusiastically give this a definite two thumbs up!! You really should start with the beginning of this series so you can enjoy the fun and excitement of the Graves family and cases Shay investigates with Roman. But you can start with this one if you like just to see how fun this series is. Then you’ll probably want to start with the first book to catch up.
During this pandemic one needs to laugh and smile and this story has both in spades! How about the number one thing that flew off the shelves worldwide? Remember what that was? Well if not you’ll find out within the pages of this book!
Treat yourself to a fun evening by curling up with a good book-this book! I guarantee you won’t be disappointed!
This was another wonderful witchy story. I have some of my own favorite moments from the four books I've read from this series but I'm sure you will pick out your own moments too. This has been my favorite witch series that I have ever read. I've read quite a few too. Not that the others were bad but I just can't help smiling the moment I start reading. I giggled in front of my daughter tonight. She looked at me as if she couldn't believe I had giggled. I just said Whhaaattt? Boy have the tables turned around. I just laughed more. This one was so fun. Hattie is her usual outrageous self. Kiki gets in trouble and big sis runs to help her out with the murder that she gets wrapped up in by association. Our gorgeous suave hot reporter, of course offers to help. Shay gets hit by a few innocent curses accidentally, but no less of a pain. Thanks to Aunt Hattie. I love the Grave's family dinners. The familiars are wonderful too. Just can't get enough of the witches of this wonderful colorful island! Hope there will be more books. Kathy
I really like this storyline about a single mom moving back to her family in a paranormal town. Shay is not perfect, but she is likeable. The story has you rooting for her to have a happy ending. The conversations flow naturally and the plot and subplots move quickly. This is best read from the beginning of the series to get the family background. Looking forward to the next book.
I thorough enjoyed this book. The series is getting better and better. When someone in your family is suspected of murder and your brother is on the police force - what do you do? Take it into your own hands of course. Shay, with the help of her friends Roman and Lee investigate the murder. With Aunt Hattie trying to help her and only getting spells going sideways, Shay needs all the help she can get. And what do you know - there is a little romance thrown in. A marvellous read.
Just finished first 4 books in this series and have enjoyed them very much, They have great characters, funny family situations, and all the problems any community of people who all have some kind of paranormal talent encounter! On Mystic Island, there is only 1 human. This is a closed community of paranormals. It is very believable and fun reading about their encounters!
When a man is found murdered in the park, Shay's sister Kiki becomes the main suspect. Joining Shay who is trying to prove her sister is innocence. Shay also has to deal with her ex-Mother-in-Law which she is not looking forward to. It is a good story and I read it straight through today. Misty Bane has given us another good read.
Witchy Warnings is a big romantic step in this series. 4.7 stars
This was so much fun (green face) and ended with positive guys for both sisters. Shay and Roman solved another murder mystery. Aunt Hattie saved them etc. Such a delightful series with fun witches on an island for paranormals. guess that leaves me out
Another enjoyable visit to Shadow Lane. I'm so glad to see Roman And Shay move forward. Amber is an old soul, it was fun to see her step out of her comfort zone.
I love this book and this series! If you enjoy your paranormal cozy mysteries with kooky family members, plenty of hijinks, and a dash of romance, you'll love this book! I recommend reading them in order.
A wonderful mystery story to read. You don't figure out who until the next end. Well written self-contained story that's also part of a series. I highly recommend this book to read.
Misty Bane writes paranormal books and they are so good! This is the fourth book in the series. Characters are amazing, funny and some, a bit crazy... I recommend this series and any other book from Misty.
I received this book as part of an ARC team and this is my honest review.
What a fun read! I’m really loving this series. The humorous cozy mysteries are well-written and fast-paced, with a great cast of characters. I’m looking forward to the next book. I received this book free and chose to make a voluntary, unbiased review.
This is a very enjoyable book to read. I have found that whenever I just want to read a book that relaxes me and that is fun also, Misty Bane's books cannot be beat.
I'm new to Misty Bane's books and I'm really enjoying them. This book didn't disappoint with mystery and hilarity...I la7ghed so hard with Aunt Hattie's antics... Great Witchy cozy mystery
Loved this book! The characters are very well created and the relationship between Shay and Roman is sweet and not overly mushy. I love Kiki and Lee. Great world building and plot line.
Man, do I love this series! Shay is a great character but what really makes the stories, is the whole family. For a cozy mystery, there is a sarcastic, humorous twist to them that keeps you entertained the whole time. I loved it!
This book was very satisfying as Shay & Roman finally progress from friends to a couple. It has been agonizing waiting for this step. The series is filled with adventures and so fun to read to take my mind off of all the political nonsense in our country.
I've enjoyed each book in this series, but this was definitely the weakest. The plot was thin and seemed rushed. There were also quite a few typos and editing issues. I'll continue to read the series because it's interesting and fun.

This series is a true feel good group of stories. I love them from the beginning of book one right on through. Great characters, little mysteries and happy endings. Just what I want to read.
I seriously enjoy these books, the characters are very well written and the world building makes you want to crawl in the book and live the story for yourself.
