The mission continues as Sorilla, the Green Berets of the Fifth, and the Lucian Sentinels take their investigation to the colony world claimed by Islamic separatists during the very earliest of Earth's Diaspora period.
It is clear to Sorilla that there is something far more at play than a mere guerilla insurrection against the Alliance, and the more she learns, she more she feels it is necessary to get to the bottom of it all.
Ultimately, though, what price will be paid for knowledge?
Good story and looks like more coming (hurray!), but, editing
This is one of my favourite SF series, and I enjoyed seeing it go further in the story arc. Especially since I'd almost given up on more books in this series. And it looks like more should be coming :). That said, the editing in this one seems not to be up to prior books. Lots of uncaught typos, extra or missing words, and similar small issues. Hopefully future books will be cleaner. Maybe the author could get trusted readers to do a quick read-through, since those things stand out more to someone unfamiliar with the manuscript. Anyway, here's to more Sorilla.
Really enjoyed most of the first half of the book, but I felt the space ‘battle’ dragged on a bit and I found I was beginning to question the stealth abilities of the two ships. Sorilla continues to be one of my favourite heroines and it was interesting meeting her Dad. However I was a bit annoyed with the ending, it was certainly dramatic, but it didn’t resolve what was happening on the planet and it felt like the author was just setting up the next book. This would have been OK except it was well over two years since the last book Open Arms, is it going to be over two years before I find out what has really happening in this book?
Three and half stars. "On Silver Wings" was my first book from Evan Currie. I loved it! I have followed him ever since reading almost everything he has written. This book was a bit of a surprise, the story was great and it continued the larger arc along interesting lines. My problems arose with the editing. It was terrible! Repeated lines, misused words, missing words, a ship named Sol, or sol, or SOL... Even a proof reader should have found these.
So, it lost a star for poor editing but it was a good story on it's own. The only aspect of the story that wasn't really explained well enough for someone picking this up as there first book was Sorilia's ability to 'feel' gravity waves. Even that could have been probably figured out by context. Not bad for the eighth book in a series to be able to stand on it's own. Lot's of action almost break-neck pacing especially in the last half and we get to meet Sorilia's dad. Most of all it was a complete adventure that still left me wanting more. Currie does a great job with that.
The grammatical errors reached the point where they actually disrupted the narrative in some areas.
Editor needs to step up or step aside. Otherwise, typical fare of Currie. Gripping page turner that hooks you in and keeps you engrossed until the last page. Looking very forward to the next chapter.
I really enjoy this series so for me it's not too difficult to write a good review...although this one could benefit from some more thorough editing. I'm sure hoping that the series continues because I felt that there are more than a few unanswered questions at the end of this one and I can't wait to find out how it all plays out. I enjoyed the bit of humour in this one, particularly with the Lucians. It also seems that the author has alluded to a bit of PTSD or battle fatigue or something of the sort with Sorilla in past books. Her character keeps on trucking and if anything, seems to get more flippant in each book but nothing has really been addressed on that end...though maybe I'm just inferring. In any case, I love this character and I am sincerely hoping for more books to come.
„-Uważaj no! […] „„Też nie byłbym szczęśliwy, gdyby po porcie kosmicznym, którego miałem bronić, grasował mi zbuntowany wóz bojowy.” No cóż, czasem życie bywało do bani.”
Uwielbiam Lucjan, uwielbiam Sorillę i czekam na ciąg dalszy :) 👍👍
Not the longest of books, but uses a single key engagement to build up more character relationship and draw you further into the Ross plot line.
I another decade I would £15 for 2kg hardback tome containing this cycle in a single volume. Frustrated that I'll have to wait for the next chapter, but hoping at the same time, that there are lots more chapters to come. BTW this version has lots of grammatical errors and repeated sections of text. I'm not dropping a star because it did not impact my enjoyment, and to be honest I'd prefer to get my hands on the story early, than wait another few months for it to be text perfect.
Despite this being the eighth book in the series, I continue to enjoy reading them as each one has been a page-turner. Sorilla is tasked with gathering intelligence on a planet settled by Muslim fundamentalists that are securing advanced alien weapons in their terrorist activity against the alien alliance. She narrows it down to the Ross as the alien race financing the terrorist but a gravitic explosion in the fundamentalist capital city destroys all evidence of their involvement. The book ends with Sorilla pledging to bring those involved to justice. Being ordered by superiors to let it go, she goes rogue in order to track down the perpetrators.
Who wrote this? There were so many grammatical errors in just the few first pages! It didn’t even feel like an Evan Currie novel!! The storyline was short and blah! Nothing really happened in the entire book! And the ending!! One small group, with no support , intelligence or economical , going up against an advanced species in a derelict shuttle???? Not knowing what or who they’re looking for in a multiple galaxy alliance?? Stretching!!!! Sorry, but I did not enjoy the book. It was a 2 hour read for a poor reader!
I have enjoyed this series since it was released, and before it was renamed. I love the heroine and have enjoyed watching Earth build their military might one book at a time. This book is just another great edition.
However, it need to be re-edited. It looks like someone spell-checked it but forgot to edit for grammar and context. Misuse of tenses are rampant and detract from the story. I flagged many, but neither the iphone Kindle app nor the cloud reader allow me to, so some went unflagged
I enjoyed the story, as I have the previous books in the series, but the huge number of typos and other grammatical errors is unacceptable. It doesn't seem like this was even run through a spell checker before publication, let alone a human proofreader. Even character names aren't spelled consistently. Is it Kris or Kriss or Chris? Sienel or Sienele? It's really disappointing that Currie showed so little interest in producing a quality product or in fixing it in the years since publication.
Thoroughly enjoyed this book, a lot better than 6, slightly better than 7 Alliance and Sol all working together, please politics and inter race animosity getting in the way, Sorilla and Kriss ignoring it all and just getting the job done An interesting and at times humerous side story, is the relationship between the Admiral and Brigadier. 2 old grizzled warriors that think they have seen it all and imparting knowledge and one liners to each other, great fyn
I've enjoyed all the Silver Wings stories to date including this one. However this release was just saturated with editorial errors, from misspelled words, to words in the wrong tense, or just in the wrong part of a sentence. There were parts where I had to guess what he was trying to say in a sentence because it otherwise made little to no sense. I had to stop sending the error reports to Amazon about a 1/4 into the book or I would still be reading it. It's a bummer, because, as I said, I enjoy the series and plan on getting the next book. Hopefully with better editing.
The parallels with 'submarine' space combat seemed a bit forced.
The story elements with Cassius Aida felt like filler, since everything that is revealed there (about the tertiary site) was already covered in Open Arms.
Wouldn't have been too bad, and I'll read the next one when it comes out.
That said, this book had a marked decline in Editing/Proofreading. Lot's of grammar errors, misspelled words, etc. I'm okay with some of those in a book, but this was a bit extreme.
My heart was on fire when i saw that there was a new Sorilla book, but this book is not worth the money. Read it in less tham three hours, full of grammatical and spelling errors, and a plotline and a half of story.
Why is sorillas dad even included in the book when he just does not contribute? This seems to be just half a book. Sorry Evan, but this does not pass muster.
I wondered why Evan had taken so long to write this book. There was no real path forward for Sorilla if she remained in the service. Now “Joan Wayne “ and Kris’s the Sentinel can pursue the Ross. Currie continues to write spell binding stories with great characters. This is as good as any and I can’t wait for the next.
One issue, Peri the Master of Ships made it seem that the Alliance was unfamiliar with active armor early in the book. Yet, the colonists are using it on planet in their archaic tanks. Seems a logical fallacy
The book is the second in the arc of I believe three and 8th in the world. It was a good read the book is about 2/3 drama and 1/3 action. We have few answers and lots more questions to be answered by the end of the book. We do get to see Aide’s dad which was nice.
As always this series is fantastic. Love the character, love the pace, great read. Evan is a fantastic author, and knows how to keep things interesting. Knows how to provide just enough detail, so that things don't get to boring. Great storyteller. Keep em coming.
I had to give this 5 stars, despite the fact that the editing isn't great. Aida is an unstoppable force of nature, but she obviously wasn't involved in the editing....
Top notch story, I loved the whole thing, can't wait for the next one... But hopefully there is a new editor
It just came out and I’m already ready for the next one. We all know authors need rest and this one just released two in rapid succession. Hopping the next one will be here soon!
The heading says it all. This was fast paced from cover to cover and I just could not put it down. Brilliant. Superbly written and now I need to go back to book 1 and start over!!!
Excellent installment in my personal favorite series and character, On Silver Wings and Sorilla Aida. I'm super excited about the sequel to this book. It's gonna be a doozie! 😊
Once gain, Evan Currie has Green Beret Aida doing what she does best. She's a " take no prisoners" kind of soldier, defending those that need help from the really bad aliens!
Waited some time for this next continuation, but wasn’t disappointed after it arrived. Wished it didn’t leave where it did and instead had the whole next instalment included. Can’t with for the next.
Investigation continues on next human colony, this time with more secluded and harder to infiltrate culture. That leads to mostly ground solo investigations with support team and similar situation above with the star ships. Again a fast paced read, setting plot for next parts.
First of all, this book is great. Sorilla is back and just as bad a$$ as ever. Great pacing and plotting. My brotha... PLEASE dont take as long this time... thanks for the great series
Evan Currie is a fantastic author and I love A variety of his series almost without exception. This book however seemed rushed, not proof read, and not very detailed. I look forward to his next books and just hope he slows down and gives us the reasonably good quality I have gotten. So used to.
