Completely terrifying! My favorite part of this book was the unreliable protagonist. I couldn't trust a word coming out of Casey's mouth. Was she really murdering her enemies? Or, was she imagining it? Is she a drug addict or being drugged? Sick and twisted, the story kept me on the edge of my seat until the end.
The waiting mortuary keeps getting scarier. Now it's more than just a place where a demented funeral director loses his mind. The mortuary becomes a place where others come to torture their victims. On top of it all, something lurks inside that threatens Casey and her brother. The story gave me chills. I had a hard time putting it down.
Wow, I had my suspicion about what/who is real but I got thrown off several times and wouldn't have guessed the end AT ALL. I need to go back to book one to read up on it. What's next in book 3??
I had an ARC which contained still quite a few editing mistakes which hopefully are erased in the published version. As always, my review is honest and voluntarily.

The fast voice narration on great pitch is full of life. Received as an audio review copy from Story Origin, this is an honest review. Beautifully narrated by Debbie Soelter, Vigil Black is the amazingly poignant and profound sequel to The Waiting Mortuary, Casey McClair has survived serial killer Devin Fish's house of of horrors but the experience has left her shattered and a shadow of the person she once was. Cared by an aunt that has no patience for either Casey or her step brother and treated by the town seeing her as a bizarre freak or any out right murderer; Casey struggles with haunting nightmares and dark visions of those she would love to take her hatred out upon. After meeting a young man whose become fascinated by Casey's trauma, Lance turns out to be a lifeline for her to confront the dark, twisted memories that come from the Waiting Mortuary. As new and even more sinister events unfold, Casey finds herself once again the target of another twisted soul that believes by tearing apart those Casey cares for will turn her into something for more dangerous than the killer Casey murdered.
Casey McClair survived a serial killer three months ago. She hasn't really bounced back to herself yet, but can anyone blame her? She had to kill her captor. On her road to recovery, she has nightmares that seem to set her back, and they play along with her waking thoughts. This is the second book of a series, The Waiting Mortuary.
I received a free copy of the book and chose to write a review. I don't know what I was expecting from the book, but it wasn't what I got. It was a chore to finish the story. The writing seems like a first-time writer, with no real idea of how to write. There was nothing in the story that makes me want to read the first one, or any others that come after. I couldn't wait to be done with the story. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
This sequel is a griping and atmospheric thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. The author's vivid descriptions painted a vivid picture of the setting, making it easy to immerse myself in the story. The protagonist's complex character development added depth to the narrative, making it easy to relate to their struggles and motivations. However, at times, the pacing felt a bit rushed, leaving some questions unanswered. Despite this, the unexpected plot twists and intense action scenes more than made up for any pacing issues. That said, this is a thrilling read that seamlessly blends suspense and emotional depth, making it a compelling addition to the thriller genre.
Man!!!!!!!! I'm not really sure how I keep reading these books out of order but I'm really getting mad at myself! . . . . . . . . . . Casey just survived a kidnapping! And trying to get back to a normal life! But she just can't! Seeing a Dr. Who supposed to be helping giving her meds to talk when she overwhelmed!! They aren't helping! AND boom another chick goes missing and it's some who she wished death on!!!! Twist after twist after twist! This one was so darn good!

I loved this. As Casey fights her inner demons and trys to come out on top, she has blackouts and there's another murderer making it really hard for her to determine what's real and what's not. I received this ARC on the Hidden Gems website. I enjoyed this book and I'm sorry to the Author that it took so long for my review.
Vigil Black earns 4.9 stars and promises to curl your toes!
Just clever and involved story lines. The characters keep you hoping things will improve so somebody can win in the end. As the story goes on, I could not see what was going to happen at the end. Good thing cause I have enough trouble sleeping as it is. Great story!
This can be read as a standalone - I did not read book 1 and felt I was able to fully grasp the story. Thrilling edge of your seat suspense filled read. Lots of twists & turns you won't see coming. I look forward to more by this author.
This is book 2 of The Waiting Mortuary. This is a well written story that grabs your interest. Will Casey be able to recover from her kidnapping and torture? A hard book to put down. I recommend reading.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is the second book in the series and I highly recommend the series! I've read/listened to all three books and absolutely love them! The characters are well developed and the story is action packed and thrilling! I highly recommend this entire series!
Beginning was good, middle moves like a sloth. This book picked up around chapter 20, and then it finished with all mish-mash of information finally being brought together.
I received this book to review and not having read the first in the series I was at a little bit of a disadvantage, however, I think that is was a good read. It is a fairly predictable story, but it was easy to read and I liked Casey and her brother Kenny, but it was a little all over the place at times and the supernatural element was a little out of place. Overall though its not a bad story.
