Two men. One a cop, the other a mob boss. They both want the same man. One for protection, the other for punishment. Special agent Eli Hunter is undercover working for Dante Rossi, New York’s infamous mob boss. What started out as a mission to acquire evidence for Rossi’s arrest, has led to Eli wanting to save Rossi’s boy toy: Luca Clemente. Any chance he gets, Luca runs away, but he is always brought back to Dante Rossi. All those failed attempts at escape have led to Eli being assigned to watch him. What started off as contempt from Luca slowly leads to something more between them. But can Eli save Luca from Dante before it's too late?

I went into it expecting to like it. I thought the setup was interesting: a "boy toy" wants to escape a hot but abusive mob boss, while an undercover police agent hopes to rescue him.
Unfortunately, the story read more like a first draft. It committed every writing sin that I know of.
Let's start with the characters. There's Luca, a bratty coke addict. There's Eli, an undercover police agent. And Dante, a sexy but ruthless mob boss. That's really all I can tell you. The character development is non-existent. The author pretty much says "Dante was an evil and cruel man." Luca looks like a teenager and wants coke. Eli has no personality. The character's motivations were also confusing. Why is Dante so evil? How did Luca end up in that situation? What's Eli's motivation in anything? Who knows.
Then there's the settings, which are New York, a mansion, and Italy. Where in Italy? It doesn't say. The only detailed descriptions are of a bedroom and the bathroom where Luca keeps his coke.
The prose was also very poor. There was no distinction between Eli and Luca's POV within a scene, which made it confusing to read. There's a lot of "telling" as opposed to "showing". Overall, there's very little substance.
The book deals with age gap, BDSM and non-con sex. The sex scenes weren't particularly well written and they didn't advance the plot much. There's a spanking scene in the beginning and Luca and Eli have sex near the end. I didn't fall in love with any of the characters.
I would never have read past page 2 if I weren't required to because of the review program. If you want to read a decent book with similar setup try "Broken News" by Sarah Dobie Bauer.
always love a good dark romance that doesn't get too sappy. the two main characters are both so likable and real. I loved it so much I read it twice. this is my second time reading it
This book offers an exciting adventure into the world of a controlling crime boss and his obsession. Luca is an easy character to fall in love with, he’s trapped, lost and in way over his head. Eli arrives to save the day and does exactly that but not without a rough go of it. This story has a terrific ending and the events leading up to it are occasionally intense but full of passion. It’s an enjoyable story that most definitely keeps the reader engaged to the bitter end.

I think this story had potential. Unfortunately the story is very choppy. The story could be more developed and more descriptive.
For example, in the sex scene describe every step that happens. As a reader I want to feel like I'm there rather than putting the pieces together and making assumptions.
Same goes for their relationship, it goes from A to Z and skips everything in between. It should progress more gradually making it more believable.
This book was provided for free by the author in exchange for an honest review via the MMRG Don’t Buy My Love Program. I don’t know about you, but when a book promises an undercover cop and a mafia boss falling for the same guy, I expect to be taken somewhere dark, to be intrigued, to be on the edge of my seat. I want to be rooting for the main characters whilst they work hard to reach their happy ending. I didn’t get one iota of it in Undercover.
If I hadn’t promised to read this for review, I would cheerfully have dumped the book within the first couple of pages. The premise sounds great, the execution for me is bland to the point of tedium.
I am hugely relieved it’s a short book.
Curiously though, I think that’s part of the problem actually there’s no space given to developing the plot, there’s no time allowed to get to know the characters or their motivations. There’s no real sense of danger. There are no side characters either to add interest and depth.
Essentially, I had nothing to do but read. I had nothing to think about, no one to care about. The storytelling was superficial and I was told what to think rather than being allowed to draw my own conclusions.
’Dante Rossi was an evil man, and Luca wanted nothing to do with him. But with the debt he had accumulated, there was no way he could escape’
Oh yeah? Why’s that? Could I get a little more detail please? No. Apparently not...
I read to feel, I want to work stuff out for myself. I don’t want to be a passive observer. I want to actually care about these characters (and quite frankly I don’t).
They are two dimensional at best. One of the reviews that caught my attention included the words ”I dare you not to fall in love with Luca” this constantly rattled around in my head as I plodded through the plot.
I wondered which part of this portrayal of Luca had the mildest inkling that anyone could be attracted to. I couldn’t feel the chemistry (although I was told by the author it was there). Just like I was told that the main characters were handsome. Oh yeah? Really? Care to explain?
’Luca wanted to burst out crying, but instead he ran to the man that was standing there, watching him with that handsome, loving smile’
Oh yeah I forgot. Eli is handsome that must be why they fall in love, because the dialogue is flat, there’s no banter and absolutely no discussion about anything really. Meanwhile the plot jumps through timeframes without any particular explanation of what happens in between.
Just out of interest and to keep the boredom away I started counting descriptive phrases.
So here for my own entertainment:
Description for Luca’: ‘The kid’ x 25 The boy x 42 ‘boyish face’ x 2 ‘boyish features’ x 2
Description for Eli: ‘Older man’ x 10 Older male’ x 1 The man x 15
General description ‘Handsome’ x 5 (including: ‘Handsome man’ x 2 / ‘Handsome face’ x 1)
So perhaps I’m not the target audience. I was looking for dark, delicious and insightful (and admittedly I like my stories the darker the better). This doesn’t do it for me despite the blurb and the first couple of reviews capturing my imagination.
My thanks to the author for providing a complimentary copy of the book. I wanted to like it, I really did but it just isn’t for me. I think I’m off to read a bit more from Lisa Henry instead. Her mobsters and undercover cops are more to my taste.
I dare you not to fall in love with Luca!!!! Special agent Eli Hunter is undercover working as security for Dante Rossi, one of New York’s infamous mob bosses. He was looking for evidence so he can take Dante down but when he puts him in charge of looking after his boy toy Luca Clemente, things start to happen. Dante uses and abuses Luca whenever it take his fancy and Eli just has to listen to it while guarding the door. Luca is a mess, he is addicted to drugs and he owes Dante! And Dante always collects but he doesn't want money he just wants Luca to be his toy that he can have any second of the day. But Luca has had enough and escapes at every chance he gets which only leads to a worse ordeal. Luca and Eli start having feelings for each other which can only complicate his investigation but when you know you have found the one what can you do but follow their hearts. But they have a major problem How can he get Luca away from Dante?? I just wanted to grab Luca in a massive hug and give him so much love and support. He is the sweetest man who has so much love in his heart but he just got in a bad place and thankfully there is light at the end of the tunnel. I really enjoyed this book and cant wait to read more from Ace Fawn!! A brilliant read!

This story is about a troubled young man who gets mixed up with a sick and twisted mafia boss. Luca tries to escape this mad man but to no avail. In comes undercover cop Eli. Eli wants to help the younger man and does his best to protect him. There is an instant attraction and the two develop feelings. This is a roller coaster ride full of action, violence and romance. Even though it is a short story, it is packed with drama. Towards the end of book Luca gets away from the mafia boss and has a very sweet ending with his protective and handsome older lover. Very enjoyable read...

Luca is the boy toy for the head boss of the mob, Dante Rossi. No matter how many times Luca runs he always ends up back in Rossi clutches. Eli gets hired to keep Luca in line. Eli has a secret that can get both of them killed if Rossi finds out. This is a short story. I enjoyed it.
It's had so many potential, why write it so fast? It's go from A to K than to R to Z, the Point of view changes from paragraph to paragraph, it's confusing.
